get all your pay first, or at least current up to 2 weeks. Then quit, granted if you don't give 2 weeks notice they will probably hold your "pay". But if pay is to be sent on the 5th, then the 2nd presumably is around the 20th, and after 2 months they are finally sending you a check on the 24th??? As mail to Canada, I would think it would take a day or two longer, but that is it, depends where in the U.S. you are. -Good luck.

It takes me three months, then I catch up and exceed the expectations.
Also, takes about three months to decide if you even enjoy the work, company structure and your team members. If not happy, change teams or if it just does not fit, change teams until you feel at home. Being worried about your performed, feeling somwhat discouraged and even temporarily anxiety ridden is not unusual traits of a conscientious employee and valuable employee, by the way.
It takes a lonnngggg time to get paid.
You get paid for work you did a month ago. Paychecks were short. No answer when questioned about how they arrived at their line counts. Advertise holiday bonus and $1500 bonus for acute care - do not know of anyone who got one. Probably just management cronies. They have great accounts but it is difficult to get lines. All the work is straight type with lots of looking up because they have teaching facility accounts, so it is difficult to set up templates. All the better work I am sure goes to preferred MTs or farmed out elsewhere. The platform is not transcription friendly, lots of looking up and spreadsheets, and they do not pay for headers and footers. They also micro management big time.

Gosh, I might be doing okay if I was being paid for "wait time", as it seems like that is all I have been doing lately. This two week pay period is nearly up and so far I have only typed 3000 lines, mostly because there is not enough work during my shift. I just don't know what to do.
But do you get paid for the template by your client? IMO...sm
My templates are how I make my money. I have a template for every doctor I type. I share them with other Transcriptionist when I am on vacation to make it easier for them to fill in for accounts they are unfamiliar with. Should they pay me for "my" template lines? Would not dream of asking them to do that.

Client probably just changed the format- if you are being paid - sm
by a 65 char. line, then your margins have no bearing on your rate since they are counting characters. If you are getting paid via gross line then margins would come into play (as well as font size).

it is probably a mentoring program (whether they told you or not) OR they are going to pay you a ridiculously low rate for typing for those 3 months.

I have kept my child home with me half the year, but when pre-K started I began working full time. Helps to only have a main account and one backup account for the 2nd year now, so my abbreviation program rocks and rolls when I focus.
if mt paid 9, editor paid 4 or 5...how can company charge 14 and make it..sm
I know the going rate in our area is 14 cents per line. As MTs most companies here pay us 8 or 9 cents a line. Now add in the Editor rate at 4 or 5 per line..you are paying OUT more than you can charge a line. How would companies stay in biz?
Unless all work is sent by the company overseas at pennies per line, this would not pay for a company.

You don't get paid an hourly rate you get paid by line - sm
so because of how you are paid (not an hourly rate) you don't get OT, especially if you are an IC.
I would move on. I think it is so unfair not to be paid for spaces! I think we should get paid
per keystroke, but that'll never happen. I just think that these national companies are going to keep finding ways to cheat us. I found a job working for a hospital as an employee, paid hourly plus incentive, and they let us expand everything! Somebody's gonna have to kill me to make me give up this job. I will never go back to the national's again.
I feel for you though. I know that for us MTs those good jobs are few and far between and some have little choice but to work for the nationals. I just happened to luck into the job I have now. I just applied at the right time.

If those companies paid a fair wage, and paid more
all came out equal, people wouldn't feel the need to try to make up the deficit by going for the good stuff. I actually prefer the harder, juicier reports. But I can't make a living doing only that, because the pay is not commensurate with the difficulty. So even though I prefer not to, sometimes I have to pick up some of the easier, more boring 'line-o-matic' reports just to make ends meet. Tell your MTSO to make it work their while, and MTs will stop taking all the easy work away that you obviously would prefer to keep for yourself.
You wont show UE being paid because it is employer paid -
the employee will never have to pay this.
What you "should" be paid and what you "are" paid
sadly are two very different things. Good luck on demanding more..because someone else will just come along and take it for what they offer and they know it.

If people are not spoiled at MQ, then why on earth are they now complaining about having a set schedule? Why don't you get the with the program and look at all the companies that are hiring and when you realize that 90% of those companies want a set schedule, then I will be waiting here for an apology. If the doctor dictating can't be bothered to dictate away from the gossiping females at the nurses' station, speak clearly and slow down, why should we lose money because they're inconsiderate? It's better than guessing and getting it wrong or just making stuff up. You'll get the hang of the more difficult dictators if you keep on doing them, but even they can't control background noise or static.

a successful MT! I don't see how anyone could be a good MT with an interest in medicine. Too much of this business about how many lines to type nowadays etc and no interest in medicine, no wanting to do research etc. I have seen several folks like you in my career and hired every one of them. They are still transcribing today and have great careers. I am beginning to think its futile to try and explain this to some folks. They either get it or they don't and want to argue.

That's not cool, however,
we always leave one of us home to pass out candy. I don't feel right taking my kids out to get candy from all the neighbors when I've closed my house up and didn't pass any out to their kids.

I always wondered how that works, and how one winds up in Judge Judy's court room? Do they know beforehand or is it like a surprise when they show up at court??? :)

He filed a claim in Small Claims Court in the state where he was living. Apparently the staff of these shows watch the dockets and pick ones they think will make a good show because he got a call from Judge Joe Brown's staff who wanted him to be on that show and the next day got a call from Judge Judy's staff who wanted him to be on her show. He chose Judge Judy because he would not have to travel as far to go to her show. It was all very interesting. He did not think so at the time he was going through it - it was very stressful for him - but in the end he was happy with the outcome and glad he did it.
The point of it is that the show is "arbitration", it is not an actual court of law. He had to sign papers saying that he accepted the "arbitration" and if he did not like the outcome he gave up his right to recourse in a court of law. He chose that route because he felt that if he took it to court, though he probably would get a judgment against the defendant, he would still have to collect. But with JJ, the show paid the judgment and he got a check for the whole amount, tax free, plus $500 for showing up on the show, within 7 to 10 days.
WOW! Now that's really really cool! lol
One more question, does the defendant then have to pay the court??? I just find this so interesting :)

Not the best, not the worst. Very easy to set up and use. You may need to fiddle with the settings for speeding up and slowing down dictation, but that's not hard to do. I'm available if you need help! I used it all through school and did just fine with it.
