So do you use like a wav pedal to hear the dictation? sm

In Reply to: i'd check into the olympus as the other poster suggested. sm - LMT
I actually still do tapes too and like it until they come off the end of the spool. This always happens to me. I'm actually losing my huge and only account to EMR very soon and can't seem to find any local docs. Is digital a way I could get docs further out of my driving range? Any help would be great. I am a MTSO and it is just myself.

If you are currently using a pedal to hear dictation you
have a sound card already. It is pretty much standard equipment. What pedal you use just needs to be compatible with whatever software you use. You can download Express Scribe and try using your current pedal with any voice files you might have already on your computer.
Letting Physician hear her own dictation
I had two bad dictating Rads, one who said "period paragraph" in the middle of a sentence throughout the entire report and another who threw up the films while dictating, as his handset was placed on the counter. There was no OM to talk to, it was me and after asking them repeatedly to fix the problem, they tried with no improvement. So I typed the report exactly as he dictated it and gave it to him for signature. He never said a word to me about it, just redictated clearly and never did it again. With the other, I walked into the reading room and played the tape for him and asked him if he wanted me to send the dictation to the referring physician so that he could figure out what he was saying. You would be surprised how quick these guys got their act together. But they really did not think there was a problem until it was presented to them. Maybe she needs to hear what it sounds like. She may not think its so bad. I say copy and send the bad dictations with the letter. Leaving out those things mentioned above.
Hard to hear dictation occurred also for me
when dictation transitioned from C-phone to digital over the internet. Most dictation was fine; however, the faint dictators disappeared even with volume turned up to its maximum.
Recalled an article I saved "somewhere" for future reference regarding such via some angel on this site regarding such. Searched through my old printouts and finally found article signed by NM regarding mini-amplifier/speaker at Radio Shack.
I searched the internet and found her/his suggestion being the Koss EQ50 3-Band Equalizer referred to at Thenerds.net for $13.99, and it has made all the difference in the world for me regarding the clarity and volume of dictation.
It is a very small unit, approximately 1/34 x 2 inches - input cord plugs into your PC, output cord plugs into headphone.
Was afraid I was going to have to hang it up until I found this unit - it was a lifesaver for me! Dictation loud and clear !!
OMG! Footpedal will not operate. Winscribe. I can hear dictation
when I click on the arrow for "play" but my pedal is not registering. Tried a different pedal and the same thing! Have a call into the Help desk but I am panicking!
Anyone have any idea would could possibly be wrong???? I have very rarely had foot pedal problems.
save a generic dictation, sit the person at your desk and tell them to type what they hear

If you would ever hear the quality of some of the dictation I heard on cell phones, buses, trains,
cars, etc. I dont care how good you are you cant do this work without blanks nor can QA. Some of them dictate with millions of people talking and laughing behind them and they are unable to be heard. PERIOD. No amount of skill and excellence will get you out of sending this stuff back without going to QA.
This would be just a "regular" 3-pedal pedal and not the Dictaphone pedal. nm

Brain dead today - or is it hear hear? I'm going to bed.

Marry me?! :) Seriously...hear, hear. Good post. - nm

You can buy just the Start/Stop software w/o the pedal if you're able to use your pedal as a VEC

Bringing up ExpressScribe pedal question again. Does anyone have 9-pin Infinity pedal on a USB?
tia
Hear, hear! I agree with Dakota - sm
The MTSO should be giving feedback to the hospital/doctors who slur, speak too rapidly, etc. They need to pull up their socks! And there's no reason why these doctors shouldn't be given an outline of what is expected from them when they dictate, such as cell phones, chewing food, candy, gum, etc.
Is there ONE pedal I can buy that will work with ALL platforms? And where do I shop for a pedal?
.
A wave pedal is a foot pedal that connects to either
serial port, game port, or USB depending on the software needed with it. You have to download the work via the internet and most companies still require high-speed internet, though some allow dial-up or satellite. A pedal costs about $70, though can find on e-bay cheaper. You can download ExpressScribe for free to use with the foot pedal unless the company requires a different software program.
wav pedal is a foot pedal that plugs into your
computer so you can transcribe wav files. There are many other formats such as DSS, but they are all digital voice files.
I don't think brand of foot pedal is important, but need to know if it is game port, serial port, or USB and how many pins it has. The majority of them are made by Infinity in some foreign country, but sold by many companies.
WAV pedal vs. USB port foot pedal
PLEASE HELP! Are wav pedals and USB port foot pedals one in the same? I've only transcribed from audio tapes, and all this is new to me. Thank you for your help.
A wav pedal is just a generic term for a pedal used to
play voice files you have on your computer. You can get them on the equipment board here, e-bay, or you can Google and get lots of other places. Some pedals are fairly generic and can play multiple "wav" types, but some only work with certain software. You can have a serial port connection, a game port connection, or a USB connection.
If you do not already have a job that you need a pedal for I'd suggest waiting because you don't know which kind you will use. If you need it for testing you can download ExpressScribe for free and use the function keys to test.
I also have a USB foot pedal. Do most companies use the USB pedal or SM
will I need a 9-pin or a 15-pin. Also, which transcription software for playing back audio files is the best? I've used one that was a fee download, I think it was called Bytescribe or somethingl ike that. Does that work for most all files or should I look into purchasing something like Start/Stop or GearPlayer?
Oh and does anyone know where I can get Microsoft Word or Office Suite for a reasonable (I'd say cheap, but cheap usually means bootleg) price?
Sorry to ask so many questions, but it's been a while since I've worked for a national. Before the hopsital job I'm being laid off from, I worked in the office at a hospital. So I've been out of the loop so to speak.
Thanks guys.
Foot pedal? Going from VXP to applying for other companies. What foot pedal should I get that woul
I need one even just to test so it seems. Thanks for the input!
INCRE pedal vs. wav pedal
anyone know if express scribe works with the INCRE pedal? I have an infinity pedal which I use for current job, but a possible second job says I need the INCRE, so I am wondering if my current job can be supported with this new pedal. Any info appreciated
It's THEIR dictation. They want what THEY are
dictating. If they use poor grammar, etc., that's not the MT's fault!!
Many don't trust the MT to make appropriate corrections and I can certainly understand that.
dictation by doc's
you're absolute right about the hospitals doing something about how doctors dictate and it probably wouldn't take that much effort to do it, but they're not going to do it. If the dictation is wrong, the MT will get the blame regardless.
low dictation
This is several hours of time just disappearing.
? min. of dictation per day
What is considered the average amount of minutes for 7.5 hour day. I'm thinking 45 to 60 minutes???
PA dictation
You must be lucky! Our group had two PA's and they literally "outdid" each other to see who could dictate the fastest. I got used to them, of course, listening to them all the time but many times had to stop and look up a med to be sure of the dosage because I couldn't tell if they were dictating 5 mg. 50 mg. or whatever! They seem to have an "attitude" too; we had one female one who really thought she was hot stuff. If they were that good, why didn't they spend the extra time and $$ to go to med school???
RE; Dictation
Kept forever. Chart is microfilmed and kept. Regular transcription is kept for 10 years supposedly at hospital I worked for.
I just had a dictation where
he stopped dictating mid sentence in the chief complaint and I Iistened to silence for about seven minutes (maybe he fell asleep, I dunno) and then he says, "hello? hello?" and hangs up! Gotta luv this job!
60 min of dictation
How long should it take someone to do about 60 minutes of dictation on average.
Thanks you.
60 min of dictation?
My own personal average is about 1 hour for each 15 minutes of dictation.
Can't help with the dictation but...
LOVE YA!
Hope that helped.
Dictation
The problem is that MTs are rarely in the workplace any longer. When I originally started in transcription years ago, we were in-house and accessible to the doctors. I would tell the the speeders to slow down. We had one ER doc who loved to look through reference books for words to use. I would tell him nicely, "If you have to look it up, spell it and save both of us the hassle." That usually worked. But now, most of the time, they have no idea who is transcribing their work and as long as it gets done, that's all they care about.
Ever think that maybe 15% is going to QA because of LOUSY DICTATION? nm

You never listened to the dictation to know.
No, decent dictators can form complete sentences. They don't erase every single word interlaced with ah, um, er, then sit there so long that a 15 minute dictation only has 43 lines. If a person can't complain about having a bad day to her fellow MTs without getting jumped on, what does that say about your personality? The only B**** I see here is YOU.
Same here. Give me the dictation, I do it - sm
I return the reports, give me the money. End of story.
Worrying about a friendly supervisor is pointless. Just do the work and take the money.
80-100 minutes of dictation
Can anyone tell me approximately how long 80-100 minutes of dictation takes to do with variables I know of a good or bad dictator but on average. A 60 minute microcassette tape on both sides of 120 minutes, is that something to compare this to? Thank you.
235 seconds of dictation...sm
and less than 20 lines!!!! And he ends the dictation at 200 seconds, then proceeds to shuffle papers and say "end dictation" 50 times...come on already, END THE DICTATION! No respect!
re:243 seconds of dictation
I actually have a picture of my cat laying on my Dorland's sound asleep...he was looking for the definition of "uhmm"
Bad quality dictation
What in heavens name do you do after starting work with a company and the dictation is so lousy qualitywise with static and the voice fading in and out. Is this normal? Left lines in every report. ??? Help?
Dumb dictation
Review of systems was not obtainable from the baby, obviously, due to the baby's age of one month. Review was obtained from parents. DUH!!!!
dumb dictation
Don't you just love these..I had one with the 11 MO understanding the assessment and agrees with the treatment!
Specialty dictation
Just wondering how many lines within 8 hours do you "speciality" transcriptionists type? Not acute care, not SOAP notes, just the specialty accounts?
I type for 11 different specialities that just feed into my "pool" of dictation randomly and am lucky to accomplish 1000 to 1200 lines within 8 hours -- any suggestions on how I can increase this number of lines would be greatly appreciated.
Oh, it wasn't in his dictation, it was an aside to his PA sm
I think he just had never seen that size before, nothing indecent intended.
I don't think it's the dictation itself that's the problem, it's the SM
kissing of individual arses and making 300 MTs remember which cheek you're supposed to kiss on Doc A and which on Doc B. :(
dictation funny
Mitral valve with moderate anus calcification. What was calcified? LOL
Doc asking for instructions on dictation
A wounderful young man at my church is in his 2nd year of general surgery residency. When he found out what I did for a living, he asked me if I would please help him with his dictation and give him some pointers so that he could do better on his dictation. No one had critiqued him and he wanted to be sure it was o.k. Now THAT'S a good guy. He's a good Christian, he'll be a good doctor, and I know he won't ever change. You cynical so and so's just keep your opinion to yourselves. This was so refreshing to be asked for help like this. It made my day.
No, I'm not dialing in for dictation...
...I'm in QA. They want the at-home QA team to train new MTs over the phone, call MTs regarding stats or if work is missing, call the clinics to follow up on any issues, conference calls, and call the home office with daily issues that pop up. We were told their clinic contact people and the front desk staff have too many other duties so feel QA should do this now. I'm fine with that responcibility, just found it odd that they will not reimburse us.
Perhaps it's not a big issue but as an employee I was curious if there were laws regarding these issues. And this is a new protocol they are implementing so it's not like I recently accepted the job knowing this is how it would be. The at-home QA team never had to do this before. I do realize there are pros and cons to working at home but there seems to be a fine line where an employer can take advantage of an employee
If I were an IC I would completely understand this.
How do you do dictation from a wav file?sm
How do you receive and send dictation on a wav file???? I know that may be a silly question, just wondering. Thanks!
late dictation
Sounds like joint commission is coming to call!
Practice dictation
Does anyone out there know of a website where I could get some practice dictation? Have been away from transcription for a few years and want to get my "ear" back and some speed before trying to get back into it. Thanks for your help.
nasal dictation
Do they teach doctors to dictate in a flat, monotone robotic-like voice on purpose? He's got the same flat tone through the whole thing !Doubled with the fact that it is rainy and gloomy here, I am about to fall asleep with this guy !
What is the going rate for ESL dictation?
