Much easier that way. Don't know anything about Editscript.
extext does not have popup window to show shortcut

ShortHand is quick and easy. You can turn off the popup window,
but it is small and barely shows. It just reminds you what is about to play out, which can be helpful for me. Say I wanted to have copd change to COPD, so I have it in there that way. But then I add it as copdj to have it play out in full. If I can't remember if I did it that way, I can look down at the box before I hit space or punctuation and see which way is going to play out.
My preferences
I personally like Itype and MTWorld for installed platforms and Scribe for a web platform.
I HATED Intrascript and Emdat/Inscribe. Too quirky.
Go to preferences.... sm
Unclick verify target window. 1 msec, 400 strokes. Click on simulate keystrokes. This is how mine is set and it fixed the problem for me. Hope that helps. Otherwise change the delay like another poster said.

These are account preferences.
However, the company follows the BOS, first and second edition. So apparently the first edition says one, two, three, etc. (client wants that). The second edition says 1, 2, 3, etc. (client wants that). I asked if I could transcribe one way or the other for both accounts and was told "no". So I will transcribe "The 2 complaints the patient had......" or "The two complaints the patient had" depending on the account. Talk about a bouncin... I think it should be spelled out unless you are typing lab values... but that is just my opinion. BOS rules in the online profession, but in the real world (my own accounts), I stick to what looks more professional - spelling numerous 1-9 out. Once I reach 10, I type it that way. JMO. 
go to options in preferences.....
Under the operation tab there should be a setting for hot keys. Click on it, and it should come up with the next key you hit will become your hot key. Or similar. I have an older version of shorthand, so if this is not an option, go to help and look up HOT KEYS. I have mine set to F9, since my other software programs never seem to use the F9 key. Hope this helps.
Laptop preferences.......I currently have a Dell...
Hi Everyone!
For those of you who use laptops, I was just curious if you would share your brand preference. I currently have a Dell and I love it. I am thinking of getting a second laptop so my son would be able to use this one for school and I would then have one just for work. Like I said I have a Dell and love it (and will probably purchase another Dell) but before purchasing another, I want to make sure I am not missing something with another brand.

Just to pull the heck out of the other thread below :-) and, hopefully, interject "a logic" about the whole subject, if I can?....
Individual choices regarding what software to use are just that, choices. Each person can make their case for their decision(s) and others are free to accept or reject their reasoning or advice. It's that simple, really.
One person's stated choice should not necessarily be construed as a blanket indictment of someone else's choice. Either take the advice, or don't, but please take the time to research what you're using; evaluate the software on its own merits and how it fits with your needs, check out what others are saying about it and why, and, finally, whether it's worth the cost (if there is one) or the potential risk (if there is no cost).

alt printscreen for the window you are in..
just regular printscreen for the whole desktop. THEN. Open Paintbox (or Paint, whatever its called) and do Edit/Paste - then save - best to save as a .jpg, then it won't take up as much space as a bitmap (.bmp) - I save all mine in the "my pictures folder) or you can make one special.
Chickadees at my window...
Strangest thing just happened. A chickadee flew to the window chirping away. He just kept going away and flying back to the window again chirping loudly. I finally went out to add more seeds to the feeder. He then stopped trying to get into the window. I've never seen anything like it. I guess I have been trained by a chickadee. lol:)
Why does my Winscribe window
disappear between every radiology job (and that means at least one hundred times a day)? It falls into the abyss known as the margin. I have to minimize all other windows for it to peek from the corner where I can grab onto it and drag it back into view...arrrrgh

SpeedType and Shorthand are the exact same program. Shorthand is lots cheaper and also has a trial.

I meant I deliberately, because I caught myself, for instance, typing CD for common duct because I forgot that I already had used CD for cystic duct and flying along I thought CD was for common duct. Of course, there's C/D ratio too and sometimes you need to type just CD, so I have all of them under CD and I have to pick from a list which one I want in there so I don't screw it up.
You can add messages and remarks. Like if you can't keep straight Celebrex and Cerebyx, you can make little reminders which is which so you don't put the wrong one in.
My cat loves to sit on the window sill too...
I make sure and keep the blinds up some during the day so she can do so. I think she likes sunbathing. My other cat could care less. He's getting older though. He is definitely past the age of wanting to "hunt" anymore. The youngest still trys to get out sometimes, but is generally pretty happy sitting at the window (this was a wild cat rescued out of the woods too BTW). The older one we let in the backyard with us sometimes. He just sits there and walks around some, but that's it. None are allowed outside by themselves though, especially since we just moved and they could run off and get lost easliy.
I've had inside and outside cats my whole life. It is a personal decision and just depends on the circumstances I think.

You might also try turning off the suggestion window SM
or whatever it is you have for a while. I use Shorthand, but it's pretty much the same thing. That way you could give yourself a list of often-used abbreviations to memorize and get very comfortable with and/or a rule that tells you what a lot of your abbreviations are going to be. As you get comfortable with those few, you'll end up loving them and wanting MORE, MORE, MORE. With that attitude, you can turn the window back on or give yourself yet another list and another rule or two to get used to.
Just think, if you only used abbreciations for the words "the patient" (tp or ?), "hydrochlorothiazide" (hycx or ?), and "blood pressure" (bp or ?) you'd never type those three out again and would be saving that much time with each of them. Start small and unspook yourself.

by clicking the "x" in the message box. I was told that when I had my computer cleaned of the AVG thing months ago. Not all of them, but some of them, have the "x" linked to where it's the same as clicking "yes" to download. Sneaker characters, they are!

If it is Shorthand, save the SPF file to a disk, then if you buy Shorthand yourself....
you can just drop the SPF file into it. That is not dishonest since you are the one who put the macros in. I am sure is it is another Expander there is a way to save the macro file and then drop it in the expander you buy on your own.

This is my own personal opinion, but I do believe that God gave men and women specific roles, both equal in value, neither less in importance. Had I married a man who would have been content in his God given role as provider and allowed me to perform mine as a mother and homemaker, I know I would have been a much happier, content individual. I'm 100% certain that my C-spine wouldn't be in the degenerative condition it's in (I see a pain management specialist on Tuesday) due to 17 years of transcription. Instead, I have had to work everyday, have one child instead of the 2 or 3 I craved, have dealt with depression and have even been in counseling.
Look at kids today. Mom's leaving their children to be raised by strangers (IMO) has been one of the major downfalls of western civilization. God had a plan. We changed it and now we are paying the price in our children.
In the ESP window. Click on Files and then Save As. Then you can browse for your A drive. SM
If you're saving to a jump drive, just look for your removable storage device, on my PC it's drive E.

love, love, love the show. hate american idol. this show is for real.
the only reason i entertained watching it was because of mark burnett and as usual he has such genious casting and editing. btw, don't know who anything about "metal" music but these performers make me like it. love marty and jd as performers. HATE JESSICA. susie is so nice and so emotional. it seems they all support each other and enjoy each others skills. regarding ty and bob marley, ty was excellent but he also lucked out on the song! bob marley was genious too and his music is very easy to listen to. i don't like 3/4 of what the others are given to sing but their performances make me love the music. dave navarro shines on this show, very gracious for the most part and letting the contestants down easy when they have to leave. he was great last night with brandon (?). sweet, sweet show. i am so impressed with everyone involved.
