She does understand, just frustrated and wanting to prob, poke, intimidate, make you feel bad. Just stay calm, when giving her choices just stay calm and say which would you want me to handle for you. Say, I can HELP YOU with thus and thus. She knowwwws just scared and just remain calm, stick to your "Calm Guns" and don't take personally. Say, I know you are worried, this is how I can help, which will it be (so to speak, she will soften and might end up apologizing a bit. Remain at least another month and see how pans out.

I have too been scared to turn them in....sm
Some reports just have to have some blanks if you aren't clear what they are saying. But it still makes you feel like you are like you are just not adequate and you hate to send it in. You know, also they may want to see if you are gonna guess to try to figure it out and guessing is worse than the blank. When you aren't familiar with a doctor to begin with and he is slurring and unclear they can't expect you to just know what he is saying.
Ever get scared to turn in a job test?
I want and need the job I am applying for so badly, but I am scared to turn the test in because I don't want to fail it. I just keep checking and checking the test over but not sending it in. Three were easy, and one was hard because of a slurring doctor, so I had had to leave a lot of blanks and am scared that I might not get it because of that.
Ah, on the main site. Rather an abrupt U-turn. Guess the business plan just

Turn around time
My husband had an evaluation on 5/8 with a referral to a radiologist for an epidural. I called this office today and was told that it usually takes up to 8 days for the referring doctor to send the consult and then several weeks to schedule the injection. My problem is that it takes up to 8 days to send the consult - the radiologist is in the same practice, a doorway away.
Does HIPPA regulate turn around time?
How a pain management doctor's office can delay the care of a patient who is in obvious pain is beyond me. Does this sound fair to you?
Thanks, Barb
BTW, I have a 24 hour turn around time sm
but often will get an e-mail asking for charts I typed and sent (always check my sent mail) up to 4 days earlier. Guess maybe they really do need that advisor.
when an account goes out of turn around time, what does that cost
the company? does the client not have to pay or is there a lowered price for being out of TAT? the reason i ask is i am on an account that seems way out of TAT and it seems if they offer a bonus to get the account done, it would be better than being out of TAT and losing money on it. anybody know how TAT affects the nationals financially and why when things are falling behind they don't offer bonuses to catch up.
thanks to anyone who may have any answers on this.
I keep it on 24/7 but turn off monitor when I'm away any length of time.
I actually do turn if off every week or 2 but very seldom. I've been told it's much better for computer longevity to leave it on. Hope that is correct!
It's cold here this morning!!! I had to turn on my office heater for the first time this year.
Winter's coming and it's supposed to be incredibly cold the next couple days. YUCK And, with the gas prices the way they are I guess I'll have to suffer with it a little colder this year.

In this business time is ALWAYS money.
I wouldn't work under those conditions. Not every company is like the one you described.
As long as she is using her own equipment on her own time, it is none of your business what she does

I hope they get put out of business. 'Bout time the
HMOs are ruining the health industry. Many fine docs have quit 'cause they don't like pencil-pushers telling 'em what to do. And you KNOW they're behind all that 'bottom line' BS that has driving our work offshore.
Glad to see the suit being brought against them, and hope that THIS time they get taken down.
Just turn it off and wait for the electricity to dissipate and then clean it and turn it back on. nm

Time to call the authorities and put this person out of business. no mess.

When I took a business trip one time, I came home to an immaculate house.
Then during the next few weeks, I couldn't find certain things like clothes, dishes, and items I kept on the counters. DH had decided to put all the dirty stuff out in the garage where the babysitter couldn't see it because he was embarrased by the mess he and the kids had made. There was mold and mildew on everything because he taped it inside boxes or stuffed it inside coolers, and he forgot to tell me about it.
Turn down such low low offers, turn industry around. sm
The way to figure is how many lines an hour do you do. There are 13 lines characters in a line (65 line length)
So say you TRY to average 4 pages an hour say 34 lines a page equal 139 lines, times your line rate.
139 X 4 cents a line = $5.56 an hour
and what if you don't do 4 pages even less.
MTing hourly hourly output is not very predictablel, so ya never know and predict what you can put out each hour.
THE WAY TO TURN THE INDUSTRY AROUND IS TO SPEAK UP, SAY 'NO' THAT IS TOO LOW AND GIVE SHORT EXAMPLE.
If the MTs continue to accept, that is what the going rate will continue to be. Yes, Yes, it will. Just keep looking. Email for general lowest to highest line rate prior to testing and resume, just say it saves time on both sides and it DOES. Why waste time. Soon, the message will get out there.

No prob...I go with what...
...I remember. For me "bothkids" works - to each her own - especially since I time 100 wpm anyway. Actually, I didn't say I didn't like Shorthand. You asked who has worked on each and for info, and I indicated that I like ShortKeys better because...
No prob. Thanks for the explanation! sm
I work really hard to make my work accurate, spending probably too much time researching. I read medical books for fun and learning on my own time, and I am very particular. However, I see stuff all the time that indicates that a lot of MTs don't care too much about quality or don't know how to achieve it. I wonder about legal liability and the safeguards in place in hospitals and nursing homes to make sure meds are correct, etc. I personally do not think MTs have ultimate responsibility for patient safety and if we do accept this onus, we are going to start getting sued for malpractice and having to buy insurance, which I don't think we should have to do. Just some of the things I wonder about and wanted to get opinions, especially from people with hands-on patient care experience. Thanks again for writing back and explaining.
I've had that prob. too. SM
When I re-booted, all seemed ok. Don't remember if I hit re-start or actually waited for an extended period of time before I powered the 'puter back up.
had same prob with Linksys... -sm
I had the same issues with the Linksys router that we bought. Couldn't connect to the company and couldn't do any file transfers. I gave that one away (couldn't find the receipt) and bought a Belkin router. It was a bit more expensive, but OH SO worth it!! I set the whole thing up in no time and with no help and no calls to tech support for the router...all just using the CD they sent. It has worked from day one without a hitch!! My suggestion: Trash the Linksys and get a Belkin. You won't regret it!
My prob is reading it how it SHOULD be and not

He prob. makes $XXX,XXX.XX & U $XX,XXX.XX

I've had same prob
I've had the same problem. Google will look fine and then once I go back to it, it will be all tiny. All of mine still fits on one page though. I haven't figured it out but if I close it out and go somewhere else and then come back to Google, it usually resolves itself. If that doesn't work, I think restarting your pc will straighten it out.

Dictaphone prob, and they are working on it.
But they tend to work on these problems late at night and on weekends, so that stretches out the length of time it takes for them to actually solve the problem. They don't want to take the entire system down during the busiest work times. They did replace the server over the weekend, which apparently didn't help. At least they know the glitch isn't a hardware issue. Sorry. I'm waiting and waiting for line counts, too. It is frustrating.
they prob can dictate a schedule
no tx... find a new job that is IC and doesn't demand a schedule; quit feeding the hungry MTSOs that only want to pad their pockets... UGGHHH!
NO PROB WITH ESLs WHO ARE WELL-SPOKEN - sm
since there are a lot of them who really put forth the effort to be understood; I don't mind being a little more patient with them. But the ones who KNOW their English sux and insist on rambling on a 78 rpm (as well as their American counterparts). What I would really like to ask them to do is to SPEAK LIKE YOU SPOKE AT YOUR JOB INTERVIEW WITH THE HOSPITAL. I'm sure they had no trouble being understood then. I'd still rather have a good ESL who's reallying trying than a sloppy US doctor - we KNOW he/she knows how to speak correctly; it's just carelessness. What are they going to do with the few extra seconds they save?
Most hospitals I worked at would not tolerate lousy dictators - and from my experience, mgmt. almost always sided with the MT. I even overhead one administrator tell a sloppy dictator to .."Either clean up your act or get someone else to dictate for you. We're not getting into a lawsuit bec. of your carelessness...and my desk is stacked with resumes.
MY PET PEEVE WITH ALL OF THE DICTATORS? PLEEEEZE take the 2-3 seconds it takes to SPELL ANOTHER DOCTOR'S NAME, esp. with a CC. I'm born knowing how to spell it, right? But I'm not jumping hoops looking it up ... just leave blank. They'll get the message.
But we know the MTSOs won't touch that subject. Better see US tear our hair out and loose $$ with s---y dictators than confront the client.
prob priviledged info but under the category of (small)
whatever they want either way.
do they toy with the figures? probably. research line count software.
put leg straight out. Pull gently on toes. More pain? Prob DVT.
Could be pulled muscle. Don't need cellulitis with DVT, but generally will have some swelling, warmth MAYBE. Try the toe pull thing with the leg stretched out, see if it hurts. If it does, see a doc today, please.

I made my business your business by posting and...
I totally respect everyone's opinions. It is easier for others on the outside looking in. That's why I pushed the "post reply" button yesterday. I trust my fellow MTs and I know the more I read from you all, the more confident I am becoming. I just need that final push, not from him though. I also wanted to let you all know that the physical abuse while I was pregnant was documented by my doctor and the hospital. I only wish I had known then that it is a felony to abuse a pregnant woman. I also photographed my face from a couple of weeks ago and told several people in my circle. I had such high hopes for us. Now...not so much. I'm not saying that I won't try to get him to church, but I realize that God can only do so much for someone who isn't listening. j

Really scared now.
I have accepted a position with the initials PS. I have just left another national with which I was not happy, and lied to make it a smooth transition. I will keep looking until I find the right fit.
Now I am scared
I just applied to make the same switch - thinking now maybe I should not. Hope it gets better for you.
Scared off
Scared off? More likely disgusted with the narrow minded, hate filled posts on this subject.
Just Scared
I have about 2 years' experience in MT but I do not have much experience in ESL dictators. I am just scared that I won't be able to hack it if/when I finally do find an MT job. Plus, I cannot get DSL or high speed internet and am stuck with dial-up and that hurts me a lot too. Right now I have a DA-126 (C-phone compatible) but no one seems to use them anymore!
RE: Just Scared
On the job seeker's board on this site, this job is available - Transcend Services - Acute Care Using Lanier For Voice - Transcend
The doc is probably scared, but...
I had a cholecystectomy done and had to sign stating that I understood the risk of liver damage, spleen damage, etc., but nothing happened, but had to sign the consent. Hope your cousin gets better.
Like you I was scared at first but then
my boss back in the 80s got really upset with me and she put me on straight operative reports. Did she ever do me a favor! I love them, my favs and the easiest really to do. Repetative type dictations. On the account I have can just breeze through most of them. I am really grateful to her.
Now I am scared......
Can we get a 'virus' by logging into the MTStar.com website? So many members with viruses running around. I really want to know! Scary!
scared of the MQ pay plan
I think its going to be a raw deal for those of us who have been here awhile. Only because it will be based on higher pay for harder work. In all honesty, I do not see them paying more than 10 cpl, and if they hand pick the worst of the worst, all day every day for those of us who can eek by and do them, we will be screwed. Honestly would rather have lower pay (no lower than 8 cpl) for easier work to keep my line count up. I've already been told many times that they give me the harder work because I can do it, but all day every day I would lose money.
They should base pay on experience, period the end! Keep the pool completely open to whatever work comes up, do not special assign harder work to those of us who can do it, because it slows us down incredibly! I agree, newbies need a chance to get their foot in the door with some easier dictation, but how are they going to learn if thats all theyre getting, and how about those of us who have been around the block, how are we going to earn a living for paying our dues in this business. Thats why i'm scared. Buh bye experienced MTs or what? What do you guys think?
I'd rather be scared & safe than sorry!
I have surge protectors & an APC battery back-up system; however, I have those so I will have an alarm & time to close my applications safely without loosing info during a storm (Hopefully). That being said -"I will not work during a thunderstorm/bad lightening." When my APC beeps - I backup & close what I've been working on, close all applications, log off & unplug everything!
NO - it's not safe to work during a thunderstorm/bad lightning!! Your time and/or comittment at work will have to play seconds to saving your life - & I'm not kidding that this is a possibility. Anything plugged into an electrical socket, including a phone, has the potential of being hit with lightning. I just won't risk playing with Mother Nature !! I've read of too many who have and have lost !!
I kept waiting to be scared on that one
but it never happened. The ending was SO incredibly stupid that I can't believe I wasted $2.99 renting it.
scared to death...what to do
Okay, now that I have job offers, I have to figure out what to do.
Right now: I am employed on site as an admin asst with great insurance, good pay, people I like, and job security. The downside is missing my family--I only see them about four hours in the evenings and most of that is bathtime, cooking supper, you get the picture. I also have quite a drive to work and parking is HORRIBLE. I feel I work LONG weeks and then have little to show in the way of my emotional outlook and cash left over after buying gas, etc.
What could be: I have job offers to come back home and type full time. I would be here to see my children and be close to their schools if something happened. Also, my husband has built me a gorgeous office by closing in a porch, so there's a big three-paned picture window that overlooks my garden. I can envision myself at home, but there's a tremendous amount of fear that's holding me back. I am AFRAID because I remember how long it took to get lines in every day. I worry about the security of benefits, PTO, and just the job itself. I don't want to be sitting in this office 7 days a week from 6 a.m. to 7 p.m. I hope I'm more capable than that, but sometimes it's not the MT, it's the conditions, and if I give up my other job...
I guess I am just venting and worrying and wondering. After a two-year break, can I come back home and be productive and accountable as an MT? Can I count on the industry? I really wanted to come home, but now I'm afraid.
TIA for any and all suggestions!
Supposed to be scared?
I went to a dermatologist's office about a week ago. The PA saw me, guess physician on vacation. Lesion on face, was told possibly to have morphens and PA wanted to do biopsy. Have been MT for over 30 years but had never heard this diagnosis. When asked what it was, was told "possible connective tissue disorder," could be one of several things and not to look it up "because it would scare me." Then is when I was really scared, thinking malignancy, worst thing that came to mind. I went back this week for results of biopsy (not diagnostic of morphens) and told PA I did not look up as she did scare me. She then said that was what she and the physician "were supposed to do, scare the patients." I shook my head no, saying she was the first person in the medical field to have ever scared me. I had lots of lab work done to make sure this is not the diagnosis and go back next week for those but was given a hand out - if I had read this from the start would have thought did not fit most of the criteria listed and would have slept a lot better for the week. By the way, hope they don't give this to lay persons. Asked my husband to read a paragraph to see if he could comprehend it and he said absolutely not. Apparently morphens of the face supposedly sometimes related to scleroderma (which I did know) but mild form and this is the one I really love, when people die, usually die from something other than that. Know would not do any good to say something to physician about the "scare part" - would never be believed, my word against hers but after the lab work think that will be the last visit there.
