If you go to Start, Control Panel and
Sounds you can change things under the Sounds tab and play around with it. Don't know which listing you would have to uncheck as I don't know if that is a popup window or what, but it is a place to start.
Or go to start, control panel, display,
appearance, and you can choose whatever you want. I change my colors all the time.
Is your pedal listed when you go Start/Control Panel and look under game ports?

As far as being right all the time.....I never said I was right all the time, I just voiced my opinion. You can agree or disagree. When you put your opinion on here do you think it is wrong? Of course not or you wouldn't put it on here.
If you choose to take it as superior or holier than though that is your problem. Its not meant to be that way. But I will NOT apologize for stating my opinion about the whining and complaining that goes on by MTs who just are not going to go out of their way for this profession or any other profession for that matter.
How can I force anyone to think like I do anymore than you can force me to think like you?????? I state my opinions other's state theirs. If you want to call that arguing call it what you like. At least I have something to say instead of the constant complaining and moaning about the state of the profession, how folks don't want to work weekends, holidays, do difficult dictators, etc. etc, ETC! You read that stuff on end but I don't hear you complaining about that. You pick me to complain at.
Why don't you put some of that energy into telling the whiners and complainers that MT is a tough profession. It is not for the stay at home "wannabe" who wants to work when they want to work and expects MTSOs to cater to their every whim by providing them with work whenever and wherever they need it.
Now if you call that rude and condescending, O well. How else would you like to sugar coat it?
Why not start your own board just for your friends?
I have never cared for the way this whole site is set up. I would rather see a post move to the top when someone posts something new to it because a post can get lost real quick when it doesn't. However, I just frequent a different site that is more suited to my tastes and only stop by here now and again to see what's going on.
If enough of you don't like the new rules (and I certainly understand your complaints), maybe you could look into start a Yahoo group or something. I think it's free (though don't quote me on that!) and that way you could still talk to everyone you like to here but you don't have to worry about the cumbersome rules and how you post and whether a post will be deleted or locked.
Just an idea. :)

I agree, you need to a lot of research. I would start with the job seeker's board and see who S
is advertising and research the companies that seem to have the best to offer and find out if they truly are the ones with the best to offer. In this business, there are a lot more considerations when looking for a job than just cents per line.

Foot pedal control/knee control? (sm)
My sewing machine has a knee control built into the side of the cabinet and I find this very comfortable. I would like to somehow do the same with foot pedal I use for transcription. Can figure out how to mount it, but having trouble adjusting it so the 3 pedals are not an issue. ANyone done this or have any input?

Though I have not had experience with this type of modification, I have repaired numerous footpedals and have some information that may be helpful. Generally, the footpedal is comprised of the primary circuit board, the wiring to the computer, and the three switches for play, rewind, and fast forward. These switches are easily removed from the pedal with a screwdriver. With basic soldering, you can lengthen the wiring to each switch, or even replace them with different switches you can get at a local electronics store. With a little bit of creative engineering, you could mount some knee -controllable switches that could control the footpedal.
Why does it make someone a freak
if they disagree with you or come on here and complain? Everyone obviously has different situations, especially with MQ where the is absolutely NO consistency from office to office. There are more people unhappy with MQ than there are happy with them - so majority rules - that would make happy MQer freaks - right?? They are not freaks, just in a different situation than you. Glad you're happy though.

Starting to freak out!
 In all the years I have been an MT, I have never been without work and have never NOT been able to find someone hiring. This is ridiculous. I have even looked for local in-house jobs and...NADA, NOTHING!!
Does anyone else freak when work runs low?
We received an email a few days back discussing about a low workload. Also received another email for maybe increased workload on another account. I get nervous and ready to jump when this happens. It's a very bad time of year for this to happen (like any time is a good time). The work is great but the pay is on the low side, especially with my experience (21 years). I took this position some months ago at the referral of another MT I know, hoping this would be it, but I really don't think it is.
I have been browsing the job boards this morning, almost applying with another company, but something made me close the browser, thinking maybe I should hang tight for another week and see what happens.
Does anyone else do this? I'm really thinking I should maybe look elsewhere because I've always thought, work smart, not hard. This pay scale is just a bit too low at 7 cpl.

How will one improve on her sklls if her errors are not pointed out. I would inform her in writing that you are starting a new policy effective ---- that weekly, you will randomly check 10 reports which must be at 99.5% quality. OMG - these are psch reports. I used to have nagging mistakes of stuff I just learned wrong or that was wrong in the spellcheck - like mmhG, so I made macros for them, and like hte = the everytime I time it. Stuff she types a million times should be macro'd. Tell her the doc is stricter on you, so you have to be stricter or her.

When HIS (ex-husband) problems got too much for me to bear and with him going BACKWARDS in the life....I dumped him. He eventually got clean and sober via a 12-step program and becoming a Born-Again Christian, but 16 years later, know that HORSES don't change colors and while he is *clean and sober* he merely replaced the drugs and alcohol with born-again Christianity and leans on it like a crutch. He still remains the nasty racist judgmental rude person that he always was, only I didn't know that he was racist, rude, or nasty and judgmental when I married him.
There is life, I promise, after these *men* - and the word *men* is questionable as real men don't need emotional crutches of any kind.

The software is from HELL and goes down quite often.
There are so many ifs, ands or buts in the accounts to get an IM is a good thing but no one was ever on IM who could actually help on the ifs, ands or buts. Then if the software froze or became "corrupted", you need to get a tech to download it again or check your computer to see what's up. Techs do not work after 5 so you needed to "write a ticket" requesting tech support to call you and hope that they would get back with you the next day so you could work again. Sometimes they did and sometimes they didn't. That's a pretty bad way to earn a living if you are dependent on OSI income.

I'm a "study" freak and read up on whatever journals publish.
...it was "discovered" that men's and women's brains are wired differently in one significant respect in the pons, the "cable" that connects side 1 and side 2 of your brain. In women, the pons is rich with connectors and cables and wiring and communication! In men, the number of connections is SEVERELY reduced from that of women.
The study conclusions were interesting, in that the scientists extrapolated that ONE reason men/women are very different about housekeeping (men=slobs, women= neat) is due to this wiring difference. And yes, there are some males who are neat, and some females who are messy.
Upshot is, a number of things predicate of of this rich connection in the pons for women. It's supposed (not tested yet) that "women's intuition" could be based on this. Whereas men see facial expressions, and snippets of conversation, and situations and body language, they don't think much of it. Because the two halves of a woman's brain connect so richly, her "facts" and her emotions are melded together. She notes all of the above, and puts 2 and 2 together and gets it! A man's 2 halves kinda scratch themselves and go "What?"
Then too, when a woman thinks about a dirty house, it's as if the house is crying out to her, filling the circuits, affecting both halves, 'talking' to her, crying out for help. Not so with a guy. One half of the brain notes the mess, the other half does not respond, it doesn't matter to him, it's dirty, so what. Meanwhile, the woman is being driven half to distraction by the interactions between the two brains, creating a DRIVE to get the thing back in order so the mess stops talking to her.
Do I make any sense? Does anybody else recall this, have access to this data? I've lost all references to it.
But for me, at least, it was fascinating!

My daughter's elementary school was on lock down yesterday afternoon cause some freak in a red S
truck drove onto school property behind the school (where the playground is) and tried to get some kids on recess to get into his truck! Thankfully the teachers on recess duty were paying attention and gathered all the kids back into the building and the school went on lock down. The police showed up within minutes, but the guy took off before they got there. So now they are looking for him. The news was parked in front of my house most of the morning this morning. I live directly across the street from the school.
It's just scary out there. My daughter who is in kindergarten was matter of fact about the whole thing. All she said when she gave me the note from the principal telling parents what happen was "It was for real mom. We thought it was a drill, but it was for real." Then I thought what a sad state this world is in when our schools have lock down drills now in addition to fire and tornado drills.
I live in a small town too and had a false sense of security until the Amish news and until yesterday. It seems like you simply aren't safe anywhere anymore.
Hell, I didn't let my kids out of my sight in the 1980s!

Is anyone watching Hell's Kitchen? If you think MT is hard, watch this show. The abuse of the
wannabe chefs is second only to MT abuse by the nationals. Really, to work in a kitchen in a restaurant seems the hardest job ever pressure-wise. I say this after watching "The Restaurant" and "Hell's Kitchen" reality TV. I wonder what the pay is to subject yourself to this agony and pressure.

cherrypicking co-worker issue (meant to post it on this board instead of MQ board) sm...
I need opinions please...I work on a very small account with just a handful of ladies. Because of the nature of the software (trying not to get too specific here) we can see who is working online and what reports they are working on in real-time...
We have one cherrypicker on the account. Instead of using FIFO method, she retrieves the reports by author ID - usually picking the better dictators of course. She knows I busted her and she did admit to it in on our work e-mail (not too bright) which I am saving just in case she gets out of hand - so far I'm still able to make money since really most of the dictators aren't bad.
But every night it's starting to wear on me since she's screwing up turnaround time. I don't really want to cause a big uproar being that it is such a small account and I need to work with her almost every night usually one on one.
What would you all do? I want to handle this as delicate and professional as possible because we can't really afford to lose anyone on this account. In other words, I refuse to stoop to her level by cherrypicking right back.
My boss has asked me several times why so-and-so does so much more than I do...I just bite my lip at that point but one of these days I think I might explode and just open up a can of worms....
