Speedtype is also the exact same program as Shorthand, but Speedtype is a lot more expensive.
SpeedType AND ShortHand both come with a converter file that will import your AutoCorrect entries to either program. You do not have to pay Betsy to do that unless you flat can't figure out how to do it. It's not at all hard to do. Productivity Talk has posts that even tell you how to do it -- for FREE.
SpeedType and Shorthand are the exact same program. Shorthand is lots cheaper and also has a trial.
.
Shorthand and SpeedType are exact same program. Shorthand will cost you lots less.
you can import your autocorrect into Shorthand.
Is Speedtype the same as Shorthand?
Thank you so much for this info.  Is Speedtype the same as ShortHand or is it the same as another expander?  I know there are two that are the same and one is cheaper.  I am looking for the Expander that lists the expansion suggestions next to the cursor so I do not have to look at the bottom of the monitor all of the time.  I am not lazy really lol I just need to bring up my production.  Thanks again
It is SpeedType, which is the same as ShortHand, which is
spf compatible I believe.
It looks exactly like Shorthand and SpeedType.
It expands with the spacebar and punctuation. You do have to make up your own shortcuts and you can have more than one dictionary file, but you can't have duplicate shortcuts like you can with Instant Text. All of these programs are better than AutoCorrect because there is no limit to the number of shortcuts (there is with AutoCorrect), and it works in most programs instead of just Word.

You'd have to download the trial to figure out whether or not you like it.
What is the difference between Shorthand and SpeedType?

Hi I've been using ShortHand for a couple months now but I just downloaded the trial of SpeedType to check it out.  It seems that the two are EXACTLY the same!  How is it possible for two different manufacturers to have the exact same program?  It looks the same, all the functions appear to be the same.  This is really bizarre.

I must be missing something.  Are there ANY differences between Shorthand and SpeedType?  If so, what are they?  Why would someone pay twice the price for SpeedType if it is exactly the same??  Thanks.

Can someone tell me how Speedtype compares to Shorthand?
nm
Yep, in Shorthand & SpeedType since they are the same program.
nm
That's because SpeedType is just a retail version of Shorthand. :)

SpeedType and Shorthand are the exact same program.
SpeedType is just a different brand name and costs a whole lot more.

You cannot import into AutoText. You can copy your spf dictionary into Word and then you'll have to create the AutoText entries one by one.
Yes, Speedtype is overpriced retail version of Shorthand.
They are the exact same program except that Speedtype charges you for every list you want to import. Shorthand gives you the same conversion file with the program. The Productivity Talk forum has super tips for using Shorthand and other expanders. http://www.productivitytalk.com/forums/index.php
Save yourself some $$ - Speedtype and Shorthand are the exact same program.
xx
No, there are absolutely no differences between Shorthand and Speedtype except the price.
xx
SpeedType and Shorthand are the exact same program. Smartype only
works in MS Word.
Shorthand and Speedtype are the exact same program, just sold
under different brand names. ShortHand does have a trial version.
Speedtype is retail version of Shorthand at a much higher price.

They have a lot of tips, word lists, etc.
When you go to the Shorthand website and click on the link to download and....

click save and save it to your jump drive.  Once you've downloaded the file.  Open up your jump drive, double click on the download to install.  At the point in the installation where it asks you what folder to install ShortHand (it usually defaults to c:programs files or whatever.  You click browse to change to the destination to your jump drive (for example, mine is E: on my computer).  Then install like normal.  Now the program will be installed on your jump drive instead of your C drive.  Then when you want to run shorthand, you simply plug in your jump drive, open it up and click on the shorthand icon to start the program.

great website sm
Saw this advertized on TV tonight. Looks like it would be helpful to us!
great website - thanks - sm

But I have got to say that my entire family (father was in the biz) colored their hair with L'Oreal and lived until they were OLD...dad died at age 97 and colored his hair too until his late 80s  *l*

And then - there's this other thing in my mind - we all have to die from something - nobody who gets to be in the senior population is getting out of this life without a diagnosis of some kind, usually.  So, I'm going out looking fabulous....just as my mother did.

But thanks for that terrific website - I bookmarked it....

Great website
Its 1am so will have to read more tomorrow when I'm more awake. I had heard about chemicals from computers, but thought that was only occuring when people are making the computers. I have a flat screen monitor and it's suppose to not emit the same stuff as regular monitors do (sorry, can't think of all the names of the things right now).

It's funny I came across this post because today DH told me about how TVs are emitting chemicals or something that are making people "numb" or something like that. I'm trying to find more info about that.

Thanks for the website
hot dang, what a great website!!!

math.com is another great website

The website someone posted below is great....
I just wanted to say I think it is great you are going out of your way to make something for this person so they don't feel left out. I am veggie too, and my stepmom always make something that I can't eat when I come over. I end up having to eat green beans, corn and a roll or something. It burns me up.
Another great grocery saving website...s,
is www.thegrocerygame.com.

I save a great deal of money on brand-name foods using this method of combining coupons with sales. I have even gotten free items, such as a bar of Neutrogena face soap and mustard and even a Mr. Clean Magic Eraser.

There is a cost of about $5 a month, but if you sign up friends, etc., you can get free weeks. Check it out! :)

Found a great eponym website! sm

This has been helpful to me.  I thought I'd share for those of you who haven't already discovered this website.

Hope it is helpful.

Great website for drug slang terms

Some of you might remember that I'm working for my BIL doing chemical dependency training videos (transcribing them).

Well, I came across a term that I'm unfamiliar with.  I did a websearch and found this website.  Thought others might find it helpful so decided to post it.

Happy MT week!

I use Shorthand. It works great in there. sm
The Scribe platform is easy to use once you are used to it. My lines have doubled in the past two months. I use Shorthand for EVERYTHING.

Go to www.pcShorthand.com. There is a trial version.
MDI is a great company. (See inside)
First off, Liz was not "promoted", she is the prior owner of the company.

Jason was fired.

We have very low turnover in team leaders, and the last time it was posted was around March of this year.

Good points about the backlogs, I will make sure that Deb & Terri send out the list of accounts that are out of TAT
For Trish: That's great!. See inside..
More or less VR is still in the beginning stages and doctors are not very enthusiastic about this idea, so I read and heard.
As we already stated VR is far from perfect and puts still a lot of strain on the MT editing VR.
But VR is the future of medical transcription and the sooner MTs jump on board the better it is for them; VR technology will get better and better.
I heard that some doctors even prefer to do their own dicating a n d editing and if the VR technology improves, a lot of them will do it.

Shorthand is great short cut program,
I wish you the best.
I use ShortHand with my ExText. Works great! nm

First, congrats on your new job - sounds great -see inside
One thing I would suggest is the electronic version of Stedman's Orthopedic word book and the Neurology word book. There are others too. Sure beats looking through a paper copy and more professional as it looks as if you are working on the computer instead of stopping and looking in a book. This saves me time also. Again I am sure you will do great! Best wishes!
Shorthand works great with DQS and is half the price

Anyone can recommend headphones--good to great sound--Help-- See inside

Hi everyone.  I have a need for some headphones with great sound.  Years ago at Radio Shack for approximately $50.00 you could get the best headphones, like the CIA uses for listening I think :)  The sound was fantastic and far better than our MT headphones.

Well, now I have an account with very unclear, low volume.  I just need better sound coming to the ears.  Like in the olden days when I just typed because I could actually hear what they were saying!

If anyone has any great headphones, that minimize listening time and maximize typing time, please post or email me.  I left my email address, just click the link to email.  Thanks SOOOOOO much.  Thanks.  Really.  Thanks.

Shorthand is excellent--had for 5 years, does everything but diaper the baby, NO problems. Great pr

SpeedType
I agree with you 100%.  I purchased SpeedType a couple of years back and hated the program!  It not only doesn't help with productivity, it also has the annoying window that stays open at the bottom while you're typing--which I found highly distracting.  After trying the program out for a couple of weeks (hoping I would get used to it), I uninstalled and stored the CD in a filing drawer, where it still sits today!
I use speedtype with DQS
They told me it wouldn't work, but I tried anyway - it works just fine. It is not part of DQS of course, but sits open in my systray and works just as if I were using it in Word or any other program.
