About MQ-A great place to be
I worked for MQ for 7 years and then left to work for another MT Company, thinking I would be better off. To make a long story short, after 3 months I am back with MQ and very happy to be back where I belong. The grass always looks greener, as they say, and when I compare my experience of the last 3 months to my 7 years with MQ, there is no comparison. I have seen messages about no work in certain offices, especially Amherst, but our office seems to be doing well. They are also organized and very considerate to deal with. You can be sure that problems exists with any of these services. Some MTs are hired and then never hear another word from the company. A friend of mine was told she would have a job when the equipment was updated and that was 4 months ago. They are still giving her the run around. So, let's not assume that MQ is the only one with problems; in this business they exist all over. As for me, I am very happy with MQ and hope to be there at least 7 more years.
Google is a great source of information
on Internet terminology and abbreviations. Try it. You'll be amazed at what you can learn for yourself.
eBay is a great place for used...
equipment, and that's where I got my C-phone.  They are also sometimes available in the classifies here on the board.  Good luck!
Great place to work! sm

They are very helpful and encouraging and give you plenty of time to get up to speed.  I have been with other national companies and they are the best.  You'll be happy there!

That's a great place to start...
The majority of Escription accounts I have been offered started are anywhere from 2.5 cpl (insulting) to a max of 4 cpl. So I'd say take it..
Scriberight is a great place!
I've been working there for a while now, and I love it there. We are on EMR system now and it's fantastic. I've never found Lisa to be anything short of wonderful. I really can't recommend them enough.
MP Count is free and works great! Just Google! nm

I agree. It's a great place to work,
most places are very slow around the holidays. And the owner is a great lady.
You're welcome. It's a great place to live!

Except in February.  Dang it's cold in February.

Seriously though, I don't lock my doors and if I need to find the car keys, they're in the ignition.

The way I see it, if them fools need thaht cah baahd enuff, might's well let 'em go ahead and have it.

Transcend is a great place to work
I can't believe all this negativity! I just love my job with Transcend. From the recruiter to my TL and ROM every single thing I have been promised has happened! I'm very happy! Yes, you do have to produce - but what MLS position don't you? Transcend also gives you the tools you need to succeed and will help you get better, faster and making more $. Stop bashing this company! They truly are awesome!!!! And the promote from within! They are so big on internal growth!!!!
Something great-- Using Google-- set to use the automatic function of completing the search
For anyone like myself who never used the automatic completion function of Google, IT IS GREAT.

I just started using it, and when I typed in like the first 2 words of something I had never heard before, like say you were typing "sphincter of", then sphincter of Oddi would be one of the choices that Google would automatically bring up.

This is so great! What a time saver. Try it.

Someone with more tech expertise can maybe say how to set the settings so the Google automatic completion comes on. sometimes it would be there and sometimes not, but I downloaded some add-on for Firefox that makes it always there. It was the "Customize Google" add-on for Firefox.

So, if you are using Firefox (Mozilla) browser, go to the add-on page (Google it) and then download the "Customize Google" add-on and then set the settings. I think this was the most useful. There is a way to set it from Google, but it kept not working somehow, the settings would go away.

Other downloads I have used-- other Firefox add-ons that I found helpful: Adblock Plus. Google Toolbar for Firefox (different than Customize Google), and Auto Copy. -- Auto Copy will automatically put whatever you select on a Web sit onto your clipboard, so you can paste it right into the document.

Hope someone finds this all helpful. Thanks for all your gals' help over the years. I have learned a lot and got a lot of tips, and so wanted to post this.
Myrtle Beach is a GREAT place for a vacation

See inside web site. GREAT place for all equipment!

(Actually, Company-Board isn't that great a place to look for jobs -
No mssg.

off shore
Not that I am aware.
Becky you work in a great place. With no one hovering, I bet you get a lot more work done w/o agoniz
wants what. The only people qualified to do QA on my reports are the dictating doctors and the rest is just pure waste of money and time. If I have a question fine. But this random QA bites and hurts everyone. BTW, I don't have random QA for those who seem to think I may have an ax to grind. No dog in this fight. Just common sense.
TransHealth does not off shore, they hire all US MTs, sm
Their benefit package is great.  They pay a very competitive line rate.  They get my vote.
"How to off-shore MT to China?"...
Why in the WORLD would they be involved with something in China, unless they are planning to assist them with taking MORE of our work?????  I can see it now . . . first China, then India, Pakistan...on and on.  We can pay to watch them put us out of work.  Yipee.  "American" was taken out of the name for obvious reasons.
Where I am now used to off-shore to India at night - sm
like that too, but we reclaimed it and now there are 3 of use who take care of these 7 doctors. I really hated that knowing if I went to bed that when I woke up all my work would be gone and done by India. Now I don't have that pressure anymore and it is nice, and I have larger paychecks now because of it.
Wonder why no posting there that off shore s allowed now
I plan on posting a job ad to see how many off shore resumes I get. Start deleting postings on that board - you will never know who I am
Once all MT is done off shore and all editing is done in US, all will then know how stupid Pakis
:{
Probably because the off-shore people will take 2 cents a line.
That's not a workable wage in America.
just drive it into a lake

Just saw The Lake House
It was a little confusing but I realy enjoyed it. My husband fell asleep...yeah, so much for a romantic evening with my hubby!
Lake George NY has the best...

     Hypertype is EXCELLENT!!!

Off-shore owned MTSO usually have a token US citizen as the front guy.
;O
Just catching up ... Pls read if you're concerned about off-shore outsourcing...

I'm gratified that the people on this board are brainstorming with each other.  I've been "lurking" and reading what's been happening. I have a few comments and thoughts.

Some of the participants here say to send to NBC News, FOX news, etc.  Others say to send to Oprah and yet others say their congressman or senator.

I say we should each individually write a letter and copy same to each and every outlet we can think of!  All of the above, senators, newscasters, Oprah, whatever and whomever.  Until all of these sources are utterly swamped with letters regarding our plight (as well as the plight of radiologists, accountants, billers and coders, etc. all of whom are losing work to off shore outsourcing) we will be ignored.  Thousands upon thousands of letters need to be sent out either by snail mail or e-mail.  We cannot rely on anyone else to do it for us.  Each one of us has to take the responsibility to make it known that we don't like it and we will vote in the next election for only those politicians that take a stand against off-shore outsourcing.  Can we all take ten minutes to write a letter and another ten minutes each and every day to send out said letter?  We can send duplicates to the same place.  Lord knows that they don't pay attention until thousands of letters come in with the same message.  Ten minutes a day - each of us - just think how many letters to our congress and to the press could be sent out if we all took the time to do so!

I, for one, will post here a list of places that I have sent a letter to in the hopes that it will inspire you to do the same.

Mine was also Vermont, on a different lake, and I was 4.
- Lake Memphremagog

We stayed in cabins on the lake, and and there were loft bedrooms for the kids that could only be reached by ladders. My aunt and uncle and two of their kids were there. It was my favorite vacation ever, and I was four years old.
Smith Mountain Lake!!!
Just outside of Roanoke, Virginia - the MOST relaxing place on Earth.

Our family has been going to Smith Mountain for over 40 years!

http://www.visitsmithmountainlake.com/
Right now only 5 days at Lake Gaston in VA - sm
but thinking about a week going to Niagara Falls, its our 10-year anniversary this month and we went there for our honeymoon. I thought it might be nice to go back there, maybe in August, with the kids. Gas will be pricey at $300 I expect, and hotel about $800 for 5 nights/2 rooms at the B&B we stayed at, but have not run it by my DH as yet. Got a lot going so it seems right now; are taking at least two 4-day weekend trips up to PA to go to Hershey Park and Dutchwonderland though, so that may be enough as we need to save now to go back to Disney next summer, so Niagra may have to wait another 2 years!
Well, its a nice size big lake, but not too
big. You have your competing sides of the lake. Basically half of it is in NJ, and other half in NY. As far as I know, its rather a depressed area - not much in the way of work up there, so lots of low to low middle income people. But, that said, they are a very warm community - I lived on both sides, Hewitt, which is NJ side, in a tiny log cabin that was like fairy land. It was so cool. Unpaved road and little cabins in the mountain. Very dangerous roads in winter all around the lake, lots of fatal accidents. Sorry! Big attraction up there were a few bars/clubs scattered around border of lake. So lots of late night DUIs and accidents. That's about all that anybody did up there was drink! Literally. And most of us were bartenders, waitresses, etc. However, tourism really bottomed out up there, so again, times are tough. Great buys on houses, though, if you work out of area. Mahwah I believe is within commuting. Don't know much about schools, but would guess they are so/so. I believe West Milford might be the NJ school district. They definitely don't have their own schools, last I looked! New York side very depressed area - Monroe is nice and close by. Again, if you personally have $$, it would be a great place to buy a nice house on the lake. Boating galore, but sort of crowded. Great ice skating in winter. Very much a small town atmosphere - very rustic and tough in winter. I loved it there, but again there was no income other than restaurant industry. Back then I did not transcribe! Good luck to you! From another Lori!
Canyon Lake is gorgeous. We go there
to go swimming a lot. My grandparents had just bought some land out in Burnet right before they died and had about 35 acres. It is gorgeous out there too. If I moved, I am pretty sure we would move further North in that area....probably close to Austin, but on some land.

I want to go and just chill, do some fishing and boating, and fine dining.....

Lake Champlain "cabin" 5 feet from the water, across
The water was so clear, you could canoe out from the shore 30-40 feet and still see bottom. When storms came up, the whole lake turned GREEN. Gorgeous, cold water, GREAT canoeing and hiking and tennis. Great forests.
Yep, google has it goin on... I really like the google earth...
Have you tried Google earth? You can type in any address, street, city, state, country, etc. and it will zoom in and show the area and then you can hit the + button and zoom right in and see the exact house, building, etc. that you are looking for.
Mainly Google; I google the known words in the phrase (sm)
That's my most frequent tactic if I don't find the word in my word books. I'll play with leaving certain words out and adding them in, in various combinations, to try to get a hit that has a word which sounds like my blank. If I get a hit, I'll Google WITH that word, and see what hits I get, and what their source is (i.e.,checking the sources out for reliability). When I say 5 sites or searches, I mean I don't often try more than 5 different combinations without a serious hit. If I get a hit, then I will spend a little more time checking that out before I give up.

If it's a drug name, I use RxList, or more frequently the Drugs.com website. Since they redid RxList, I haven't found one that has quite as good a wildcard search, but Drugs.com works okay most of the time.

If it's a place name (like when they give names of outlying outreach clinics and etc.) I'll use Mapquest and look up the city my hospital is in, then "pan out" and look at the outlying towns.

Hope that's what you're looking for. I do have bookmarks, but I find that even the ones I think I'll visit again, I waste more time doing that than with an intelligent google search. An example is the time I was looking for "banana bag." The only place I managed to find it with a degree of reliability was on a nurses' message board. I've found quite a bit sometimes on the various specialty message boards out there, but I think the quickest way to locate that is through a search engine rather than bookmarking each individual site and trying to figure out which ones to search for a particular term.
Let me add to a good marriage, a cup of coffee while sitting on a deck overlooking a lake at 6 in
the morning - good English-speaking doctors who do a very long pulmonary consult who speaks so well that I have left absolutely no blanks and whose report gave me approximately 150 lines in just under a half an hour.  Oooh, how I dream I could have a guy like this all day!
The position varies from place to place..
Sometimes you end up doing VR, which can be really easy or a real pain. Sometimes you end up simply editing files and all is good. Other times, you end up with more job responsibilities and hours than you ever wanted. All in all better than typing LOL.
Is it kid friendly?
x
pet friendly
I for one can identify with you.  Leaving my simon at home would be like leaving a kid at home!  For the last eight years we have planned most of our vacations around our dog.   I have found some of the greatest ones were groups of cabins on the lake (I am in Texas, so we have gone to tennessee, arkansas, etc) but I'm sure there are some close to you.  They have group cookouts, hiking, casino nights, soft ball, lots of fun stuff.  You might check something like that.
Friendly HHS contact
I was wondering if anyone had the name and number or E-mail address of a friendly person at the Department of Health and Human Services? I have a couple quick short questions concerning the HIPAA regulations.

Thanks.
Just be sure it is transcription friendly and
it has everything at your fingertips, i.e. doctor roster, automatic demographic fill-in, line cout accessible, one key to send and hopefully automatic download, good spell check, and me personally "could live without my ShortHand abbreviation expander. It works in all windows programs, so therefore I can use it on most all software programs.
My supervisor is very friendly and
personable, however, we have never met in person. We have "known" each other for years since we have both worked out of the same office a long time, he used to be an office employee, recently promoted.
