Go for it! Good for you! I am in the review
stage of my CMT exam and plan to take it ASAP as well. No discounts here, either, but I really want to earn this! I think its a great thing to strive for, and so do lots of companies, despite the naysayers!!
Seen any good movies lately?
I liked The Pacifier and National Treasure. We are planning on having an outdoor movie night using a white sheet nailed to the side of the house and a projector to the DVD player on the computer, but I can't think of anything good to rent.
What are some good review books?
Hi everyone,
I have a question that I hope you can help me with. In short, I graduated in 1997 from college with a certificate in medical transcription. (I took a 1 year program) Even though I never worked in transcription, I have recently been offered a chance to work and do transcription from home. I was required to take a test and actually made 88% on it with no review at all. I needed to make a 90% though and am wanting to find a way to review and boost my score. I was wondering if any of you could give me the name of a good book or program that might help me out. I have seen one book called "The Do's and Don't's of Medical Transcription" but would like to have some opinions on it and other books out there. I would appreciate any and all help on this as I'm really looking forward to getting into the medical transcription field for the first time.
Many thanks,
RT
Some older movies, but good ones...
The Life of David Gale...excellent movie...Kevin Spacey, I think...
Mona Lisa Smile...Julia Roberts...I really liked this one, so did my teenage daughter...
Forrest Gump, of course, one of my all-time favorites...we all know who he is (and the soundtrack is awesome)!!!
Have a lovely weekend...
Movies that are so bad they're good.
I'm gonna check that one out. I love movies like that. Nicholas Cage in Vampire's Kiss - same story, very young, bad movie, but boy did he give it his all. Talk about over acting.
Woolworth's 5&10, Sat.afternoon at the movies - 2 movies for the price of 1
nm
I hate theme nights because
the contestants try to do the artist proud but don't make the songs their own. Karaoke as Simon puts it.
Who should go home? Kevin and/or Melissa, do they kick off 1 or 2 tonight? These 2 are definitely inferior to the rest of the performers. Bucky is running my close third for getting the boot. I really like him, but I don't think he's got what it takes for different song styles that will be coming down the line.
TOP 3: Chris, Mandisa and Taylor.
Keeping with the movie theme........
share with me the good movies you have seen in the past year (I like to get PayPerView and have picked some STRANGE stuff lately!!!)
Thanks!!!!
This has been a theme of mine for some time
I see so many people saying they just want a job to stay home with the kids. They are not saying this is what they love, just a way not to have to work outside while they manage several kids/babies underneath their feet. How do you expect to have the dignity we once had, not like that. I remember the time I could name my price, say 25 years ago. I surely did not get into this to work at home, otherwise I would never have spent those 30+ years in an office setting.
Central FL, yes, and the theme parks are all offering jobs. nm
x
We are talking about DisneyWorld Transcription, not theme park. Something else entirely.
:+
No idea...in 3+ years when we build I wil figure it out....probably a wolf theme
xx
On the same theme, you've done so many ESLs that you can understand (& interpret for family or
friends) anyone on the news on TV or in a movie without having to look at the subtitles.
REVIEW
I think it should depend upon your experience and possibly the difficulty of the dictation. I have been working at the same place for a VERY long time, so I rarely have to listen to dictation twice. However, I have found that if I am doing a difficult doctor or cannot understand something, I will mark the spot, so that at the end of the report, I can go back and maybe after finishing the rest of the report, I may hear that portion now! Miraculously, sometimes if I go back, I have familiarized myself with that doctor's dictation and TA-DA, I get it!
If you were a newbie, and were maybe in training, etc., I think it could be a great idea. It just seems sometimes that between trying to obtain a reasonable production, it is just impossible to listen to every single report twice! Hope I helped!
here's a review
-- i don't have the actual
experience.

We actually had some old 8 mm movies...
put on video (some years back) and they must have thought we were a bunch of hicks because to go along with our vintage 1960s era Christmas morning movie, they put the movie to music, of all things, Turkey In The Straw. I actually went on E-bay and bought an old projector that plays 8mm and super 8mm and we watch all the old movies on an old projector. It's fun, but I know they will deteriorate eventually. Nothing more weird than seeing my mother at age 27 (5 yrs before I was born), dragging on a cigarette. She quit when I was 3, so I have no memory of this. Old movies are so much fun.
He has been in a lot of movies and was
voted People Magazines Sexiest Man Alive this year.
movies
That's a difficult one - probably would include From here to eternity (the original), i'm telling my age! Cape Fear, urban cowboy!
fav movies
1. The Frenchman and the Beautician
2. Top Gun
3. Meet The Fockers
movies
I also loved history of violence, I didn't think I liked that main guy in an old movie, but he was quite good! And I think william hurt played an excellent mean person (is that a compliment??)
what is their points review
doesn't sound like its in our favor, is it part of the new mt/me rewards plan??
Hospital is probably up for review by....sm
JCAHO. If the charts are incomplete, then they could face penalties. Or, perhaps they already have gone through an audit and were found lacking.
to "me", you should further review
because there are MANY negatives posts still on this Main Board. Just look at posts where "Kikki" had anything to add to the mix. LOL. The OP is correct in his/her assessment.
Review guide...sm
It was my experience that the dictation portion was exceedingly easy, not nearly like the "snippets" on the CD that comes with the book. Pay more attention to the rest of the book.
Does anyone know? I am using the CMT Review Guide...
to study for the CMT exam. There are practice tests on the CD. What is considered a passing grade for the CMT? I can't find this info anywhere online, or in the guide. Thanks!
performance review
How do you find the performance review going. Are yout satisfied with the way the QA people are checking your reports? I will get a correction from one and another QA will let it stay the way I typed it. One MT said that most of her reports were OP notes and the doctors say mostly the same thing over and over, so she made templates and she just has to punch in a few strokes and the OP note is done. How can you do this when the QA people are checking it word for word. I cannot set up any templates because a few words may be changed. Just curious. .
I think it's because he's doing too much. Look at how many movies he's made in the last fe
all in a row. Plus, the divorce surely is adding to that. As far as Angelina, don't blame her. If Brad was in love with his wife, he wouldn't have strayed. Plus, it obviously isn't just an "affair." It seems they are developing a relationship. Also, don't forget, Angelina was the victim of a cheating husband and had her heart broken, so she knows that pain. I think Brad and Jennifer spent too much time apart. And he does have a history of falling in love with his co-stars - Gwyneth and Juliette to name two.
Scary movies
Creature From The Black Lagoon.
The original Phantom of the Opera with Lon Chaney.
Pay per view movies
Our pay per view channels are the 100's. Your system might be different. Our system is supposed to be connected to a phone line always, but a lot of the time it is not. We can usually still order movies with our remote. My SIL only has a cell phone now, so I do not know how she does it. We select the channel with the movie that we want. Press info. You can arrow up to exit if you do not want to purchase the program, or press menu to purchase the program. Our system is older, so yours may work a little differently. W have learned to be very careful because it is easy to order a movie that you really do not intend to. Sometimes you can go into purchases and cancel. With some things, you cannot. My husband, who is very technically challenged, sat there one night and accidently surfed where he did not belong and accidently rented some kind of special adult presentation. We immediately tried to cancel, but were unable to do so. You can also go online to rent a movie, which is also easy, or you can do so by phone.
when movies were 25 cents and you could...sm
send 10 letters thru the post office on $1.00
geesh - I'm older than dirt.......*LOL*
Drive in Movies sm
I remember as a kid going to the drive-in movies with my mom hiding us in the backseat so as not to have to pay for all of us.
As a kid I remember the amusement truck coming around and we could take a ride on the "whip" for $0.25.
I remember when it was legal to open the fire hydrant and get wet during hot summer days. (Yes, I lived in a "city").
I remember "Happy Days" was the hit show when I was a teen and the boys tried to look and be like the "Fonze".
I also remember as a teen, a bag of Doritos was $0.25.
Can you guess my age?
(Hint - between 37 and 39) LOL.
I love old movies too...
Gentlemen Prefer Blondes
Barefoot In The Park
Gone With The Wind...I love them all!
Well, I like his movies, so neener.

You can purchase the CMT Review Guide-sm
from Stedman's. The title is "The CMT Reveiw Guide." This book was just released last year (2005) and was developed for the current version of the CMT exam. You might also want to consider a CMT Study Group. Contact the nearest chapter of AAMT as they do have CMT Study Groups. I know that the Online Chapter of AAMT is about to start a study group that will complete in time to take the CMT in the end of July/begining of August. Oak Horizons also offers and online CMT Prep Course which I have heard is really good. You can get more info on the Oak Horizons class on www.aamt.org and do a search for CMT prep course. For more info on the OCAAMT Study Group contact certconnector@aamtonline.org.
think you need to contact the medical review
try the insurance company's medical review board for a reassessment of your bill(s). Good luck!
A "peer review"! Sure never heard of THAT, before! (nm)
.
My last QA review was a BIG surprise. Here I thought I SM
always topped 98% and routinely cut into my potential earnings to maintain my own standard. Wrong! The QA person's explanations for my mistakes were confusing and seemed in some cases to contradict the guidelines and in others just plain wrong, but I figured my job was to pass the review and get back to work, so I tried again. Failed so completely I was going to be put on probation, allowed to do something like 10 or 15 reports a day until my performance came back up. So I contacted my account manager, who told me she'd take care of it, and that was the end of it. Something I heard later suggested that QA person was still there causing trouble months later. Maybe you should talk to your supervisor. I'd also start gathering documentation of prior reviews for the Labor Board if that raise doesn't come through. There are plenty of companies out there looking for skilled MTs.
Do you listen to every report twice, to review it,
x
How do you order movies from Direct TV?
I'm a fairly new subscriber to Direct TV and up until now when we wanted to watch a movie, we would just go to the video store and rent one. I know Direct TV lets you order those movies from them and they put it on your bill and you get to watch the movie when you want to. Do any of you do this and do you find it more convenient/more expensive? Also, do you have to have a phone line to do this? Exactly how does it work? Thank you for the info and feeling a little dumb having to ask!
what are your favorite top 3 movies of all time?
1. A River Runs Through It
2. The Notebook
3. Bladerunner
Jack Nicholson movies
He is my favorite actor and starred in two of the funniest movies I ever saw: Goin' South (which he also directed) and The Fortune (with Warren Beatty)--both hard to find but absolutely hilarious!
You want strange movies - check out the
Joaquin Phoenix and Vince Vaughn was really a good one. Also, I happened to come across a movie about 3 or 4 years ago that turned out to be one of my favorites - Last of the Dogmen with Tom Berringer and Barbara Hersey - I HIGHLY recommend this movie - It's not a war movie but I don't want to tell you what it's about because it would ruin the surprise.
Typing Captions for TV&Movies
Does anyone here type captions? I want to know more about this, as I was watching TV w the captions on and wondering who types the words. I wonder if you just get to watch TV and type what you hear all day long...that would be so sweet.
Why? Why should we review every single report and in its entirety? SM
The QA bar has been set at 98% by both of my employers. I BEAT, not just make but BEAT, that QA rate every single time.
I've good a great balance between speed and quality.
If you want to take your time to do that with every report, that's great for you! Your choice.
I guarantee you that even if you score 100% on your QA'd reports, because you are not being QA'd on every single report, you're still making mistakes somewhere. So, the line has been drawn in the form of the level of QA expected.
Funny, I just got my 3rd 100% review and asked for a raise
I was told SEs are paid on a sliding scale and there are no raises at all EVER.
The CMT Review Guide is great and geared
toward the current CMT test. Published by Lippincott Williams & Wilkins, publisher of Stedman's. I believe you can buy it from them, or from AAMT. Good luck!
SmarType users please give review...sm
I'm thinking about investing in SmarType. I have heard good things about it. Can some of you how use it give a review? Does it take long to get used to?
TIA
CMT review guide. I'm glad I read it.
