My goal is to have abbreviations for EVERYTHING I have to type in my work, and I recommend that be yours also.
The cva/cvaa thing works very well for me too. For two-word combos like inguinal hernia, I use the first three of the modifying word and first two of hernia--that's so I can do the same with dozens of different hernias.
For "the patient was taken to the operating room," it's "tpwtttorr." That's so I can abbreviate all whole sentences no matter what's in them. Sentences competing for one letter (please call/cntact me) require assigning a second letter to the competing words, cl/co).
Even more than sentences, though, I have many thousands of phrases: "the patient was taken" is "tpetk" and "to the OR" is "ttor." This last ability is especially very important with editing work to make corrections as quick and easy as possible.
And of course I don't memorize any of them, just the rules I set up for making my abbreviations, and after that motor memory takes over with continued use.

Line rates can be deceiving. I make 8.5 cpl now, made 10 cpl for MQ. I'm much better off emotionally, mentally, physically and financially with the 8.5 cpl.

and enjoy it!! I love photography but don't have the dedication needed to do it professionally. I also love being an MT and will do it until I can't do it any longer BUT I'm also starting back to school to (hopefully) finish up a nursing degree. My ultimate goal is to own a lakeside small resort (or lake property) but I need a career and a backup career to make this work.
Thus I will continue to treasure the MT clients I have but will also work toward something in case the negative predictions are true. In either case, a little more education can't hurt and can only enrich my life in my opinion.
I can't even bake a straight cake ... I'm thankful for those who do the baking and decorating so you go girl!!

uh, we moved the fridge farther away from my office so I have to walk more now.
Seriously, I have a mini trampoline, exercise bike and a weight lifting set in the house that I use to hang clothes on. DoH! I'm starting to use them more now since I quit smoking a month ago. Gotta get back into shape. My doctor said not to rush it.
