Really tacky on her part - I never discuss salary with anyone but hubby!

She obviously has issues with feeling inferior somehow! What kind of person says, "I make XYZ amount of money" when no one even asks?

My hubby will always be the bread winner - I am close, but his salary tops mine. sm
My hubby works for one of the top Oil Companies in USA - with overtime - $150K a year for him. He has all the bennies, pension, 401K, profit sharing, etc. I am about 50K shy of his salary.
Darling hubby, dumb hubby, dufus hubby. Take your pick. I have been known to use all three--
nm
$72 is not their salary, it is their salary and benefits package
including wages, insurance, retirement pension, COLA fund, etc.
Not tacky at all.

And Tacky!
That's why these boards have the worst reputation. It's no secret in the industry. The only thing missing here are F-bombs. Oh--is that hyphenated per the powers that be?
Get a life.
I think it's borderline tacky.
I understand the need to get the message out about where you're registered, but I've never seen anyone put it in an invitation. When me and my group of friends were getting married, we would create a wedding website and put that web address in the invitations. Then on the website, among other things, we would the list places we were registered.
For those who didn't do that, I just called her parents and asked where they were registered.
Just sounds tacky to me!
She was placed in the prone position with her butt cheeks spread apart.
This doctor is always very casual in his style of dictation, but this takes the cake!
Definitely tacky to send a solicitation
in a holiday card.
It will be deemed as tacky by most invitees.
I would not mention gifts, monetary or otherwise. If someone calls you and asks, then you can tell them about the charity. Period. If they don't wish to donate to that and they give you money, you can donate the money yourself later. If they show up with a blender or something, thank them and donate that to a shelter or something later.
Most people that know you will also know that you are merging two households and have what you need as opposed to newlyweds who are just moving out of their parents' homes and many will likely choose to give a monetary gift anyway.
I feel that by putting any kind of gift request out there, you may alienate those who would like to come celebrate your marriage but simply cannot afford any kind of gift. When you ask for a monetary gift, as in cash or gift card, that forces people's hand. You can find a nice wedding gift somewhere on a sale shelf and spend less than $20 sometimes but if you have to give cash or a gift card, you tend to give more than that so as not to look too cheap. If it's close family/friends, I say they will know to just give money. if it's not, take whatever they offer graciously and either donate it or sell it on Ebay.
I am not miserable, I love my job, all is well with me, but gross tacky humor is just that.

Ha ha! But will you start dressing as tacky as Dog and his horrible wife? Yuck! ;)
nm
Your hubby must my hubby's twin. sm
He can't find anything or put anything away either. He did learn a long, long time ago to empty his pockets, though. I have a nice big doghouse where he spends with his dog with things get too hot. Or, he can sleep in his corvette, but it gets a little cramped in there!
It is not hubby, is her father, but not hubby. nm

Why don't you discuss this...
With her doctor and tell him that you know you are not a doctor but you read that menstrual blood among other things can effect the test results. Tell him she was on her period at the time so is it possible to test this again after she has stopped her period? Get his opinion on this.
If it ever comes up, discuss it then
with your supervisor, but until then, I would not worry about bringing it up. If it ever happens, just ask her should you do it or return it to the pool and let her make the call.
I did type a doctor's visit for a close friend's dad one time. My friend nor his father ever knew that I did it, and it's been so long I couldn't tell you what was in it if I wanted to. I do believe if it was family or very close friends, though, I'd let the boss know and do whatever she/he decided.
I'd tell me to discuss it with his boss
You gotta be r-e-a-l careful when you're talk state laws. The boss might consider him "problematic." I mean, how much money are we talking about in terms of travel from the boss to the client? If he's getting, say, $10/hour and it's a 15-minute drive ... For $2.50, I would just let it slide.
I'm an IC and work exclusively for one company, which makes me a statutory employee by IRS law. However, I'm making a high line rate, so I'm more than willing to leave things as they are and pay 100% of my social security tax.
This is one of those "silence is golden" situations.
Please discuss what you have firsthand
I have 14 years experience working for a prison system that included a work release center. Penal systems have to abide by certain guidelines set by the federal government when placing work release inmates in jobs. Inmates are forbidden from handling any type of mail. They are also forbidden from any job that involves access to credit card information or peoples social security numbers and other info.
If you have first hand knowledge of an entity or facility that has inmates working in a capacity where they have access to this information, please list the name and I will report it to the proper entity.
Please do not make statement about it being 'common knowledge that inmates process catalog orders' if you don't know what you are talking about. Which catalog has inmates processing orders? Please tell us. Some of you people are so messy and quick to spread false gossip. As adults, you should try to be more responsible about what you say.
I would discuss it with the head of QA....nm

Advise you discuss this with your doctor. Soon.

The mature thing to do would be to discuss your
feelings with your trainer. If not satisfied, go to the transcription supervisor, and then to the overall manager.
First, sit back and take a deep breath. Put it all aside for a few hours and watch TV, take a bubble bath, do whatever, but get it off your mind. Then make up your mind that you can do it, but you first must take time to organize everything in your mind. If you really believe it is still the company's fault, then it is time for a new job.
Find a doctor who will discuss it. I SM
don't know about the patch. I do know there are various dosages of the pills, but all of this needs to be discussed with your doctor. Sounds like you need a new one.
A board to discuss how MT skills can
be transitioned into another line of work couldn't hurt. No matter how secure any job or profession appears to be, the situation can change at any time. That is the reality of the workplace with mergers, technology, etc.
One of the the worst career management errors is to become complacent. I can look back on seventeen years in this profession. It has changed, and not to our advantage. I can't predict the future, but it would be naive not to at least consider other options.
fortunately for the rest of us who dO want to discuss this,
Discuss this with OM and explain PA made

The main board is used to discuss many different topics. sm
There are many posts on this board that if you were to be really technical about it, should be put on the company board, word board, productivity board, religion board, etc., but they're allowed to stay here and be discussed. If you don't like this topic, then feel free to skip it. But it really isn't a political discussion per se, so it shouldn't have to be taken somewhere else.
Please use Offshore board to discuss those topics. (NM)
Goldbird
I agree, she should discuss it with her attorney but personally,
I would wait until the final papers are signed before I bought another house.
I neve discuss politics or religion

Her points are valid, true, and very appropriate to discuss here.
The only thing I would add to that is that in addition to discussing this age-old medical "dirty secret" here, it should also be discussed with anyone and everyone, until the issue can be brought to the forefront in the medical industry. A lot of terrible medical mistakes are being averted because of skilled MTs catching them.
We are an important line of defense in the medicolegal risks every doctor & medical institution faces every day. Yet because very few people know this profession even exists, we're continually being kept in the medical industry's darkest closet, and many of them get their hides saved from financial ruin every day -- literally at our expense.
Not OP and don't care to discuss details BUT OSI hired for a specific
specialty that most MTs love and then overstaffed the account. When MTs ran out of work on that speciality account, OSI offered to switch them to another speciality on a more difficult account. To go to work with OSI required much time testing, negotiating, training and specific equipment purchased so you have already made a time and financial investment only to discover that the specialty you were promised doesn't have enough work so to survive you either take the back-up account which is not as financially rewarding as the one you were promised or you lose the money and time you have put into going to work with OSI. I also quit my other job so I could work full time for OSI based on promises made that were never intended to be kept.
.(This is me after discovering what OSI was all about and not at all as promised)
so true - letter says call will be to discuss rewards BUT
anything!
Quit wasting my time with this MQ.
Either say what's on your feeble mind or quit calling.
Sorry, but your OP made no mention of the fact that you did not discuss your situation with this guy
:o
Can you call and discuss the situation? They may be understanding and helpful. nm

The easy part is making the decision to leave, the hard part is
actually doing it. Been in your shoes and it took me a year and a half to leave after I had made the decision to do so. It was the best thing I have ever done for myself and my girls. I had family and friends and a counselor telling me what needed to be done and I knew what needed to be done but until I had the courage on my own to do it I stayed. One day, we had an argument and he spit in my face and that was the last straw for me. Even though it is something that I will NEVER forget, that day is also a day I will never forget because it is the day that I took my kids and left. I am a single mom of 2 and have been single and supporting us for 5 years now. I have been healing ever since and still am to this day. You can do this. I know that if I hadn't have left and I would have stayed one of us would be dead by now or both.

60,000+ last year
salary
Two years go, I made $67,000.00. Last year approximately $40,000.00 but I had an illness to deal with and Im still dealing with it, so probably this year, the best I will make is $25,000.00. However, Im feeling stronger, my illness is getting under control so Im aiming for next year at least $50,000.00.
salary
@.10/line I average $45,000 to 53,000 depending on how many days per week I work.
Salary
I charge $60 per audio hour or $1 per minute for my general transcription work and understand this to be the going rate. There is plenty of work out there but it is not easy to find. I am currently enrolled in a good MT program, but am going to keep doing my general work on the side even after I get work as an MT, because it really concerns me that some MTSOs hire people whom they do not fully employ. It seems like a lot of MTs post here and elsewhere that they don't get enough work to do. How can anyone project their income if they don't know if they will get any work to do or not?
salary
Worked in rural hospital at low end of #1 for 6 six years.
MT salary
What is the average salary of someone starting out being a MT, and what type of raises do you get. Is it a good career for someone young to get into?
MT salary
Greeting everyone!
There was a recent post form someone inquiring about salary etc. Many replied you may even start below minimum wage. I can confirm that because that is what I am making. I am not complaining........few expenses involved and my family situation forces me to be home, which I am blessed to be able to do. The company I am with has also been great up until this point but now getting stricter. (Do not blame them.)
How long does it usually take to get up to say 150 lph? On pirmary account dictators are the same. On secondary acoout you may get dermatology, ortho, psych, neuro, OB etc. Enjoy the variety but hard to develop speed.
Thanks for any and all advice!
My salary PT...
I work 7 days a week... part time during the week and full time/on call on the weekends. At that I make about $400 every two weeks from my job during the week and $200 a weekend from the hospital I cover for. So about $1600 a month I guess.
I signed on part time because I plan on going back to school in January and I wasn't sure if they would let me drop down to PT if I started FT. Plus I can always work more if needed to make extra, just no benefits. But hopefully hubby will hear good news next week and we will get state benefits and I can go to the doctor finally! :-D
If I worked FT at my company I would probably make around $700 every two weeks so that would be $2200 a month with the other place. Hope this helps!
(I thank God that I live in an area that is dirt cheap for mortgage, etc!)
Salary ... sm
The point of a salaried position is to compensate for a job that does have a fair amount of extended hours. The salary takes into account a certain amount of overtime - that is why salaries are usually higher than what you would make with just an hourly wage or production rate.
At the same time, you'll also be paid that same amount even if you just work 8 hours a day.
No doubt, you will have some longer workweeks. However, having worked on salary, it is a nice relief to know exactly how much will be in the bank every single time.
If you really are not wanting to work more than 8 hours a day, you'll be quickly looking for another job.
Salary
How does anyone expect a person to survive on $20,000 a year (rent, food, utilities, etc.), not to mention if you are head of household with children? This is really shameful. It is almost as though they are trying to force American Transcriptionist out of the market.
and we do pay their salary so who needs their approval. They need ours.
I would love to subject managers/supervisors to QA and have their salary based upon their performance. Which begs the question, what do supervisors do all day but generate e-mails? We do the hard work to bring money into the company so a supervisor can e-mail us and what else?
are you paid salary?
nm
isn't salary taboo to ask someone
x
salary taboo?
Most people on this board are using an alias. If you post your annual salary -nobody knows who you are. People are all over this board bashing transcription companies and naming names, yet when you ask for salary info they have nothing to say.
Yeah right, on this salary? :)
I wish.
The beginning salary for (sm)
a GS-0640-5 is $24677. Top end at that grade is $32084. Some localities have a higher pay scale, depending on the local economy. It's likely there will be no chance of promotion unless your supervisor quits, retires, or dies and you happen to be selected for the position. You must work to age 65 or 20 years of service, which ever comes later. Search
