Go to the Word boards and read
all of the notes and replies that deal with acute care. If there is something you do not understand, research it and study up on it as much as possible. It is basically a way to learn new terminology. No one can teach you acute care. If you want to learn it, all you have to do it study. The Internet and reference books will be your teachers. The ball is in your court. All you have to do it take the time to learn it. When you graduate from MT school, you only learn the basics. The rest you must teach yourself. I hope this helps.
Apparently you have not read the other boards
where the one you are talking to is the one to blame for loads of hostile postings.

When working from home, whether dealing with clients, MT management, or QA personnel, you can just feel the negative vibes coming off of people over so little. It causes a very stressful environment. Maybe that is where some of the MTs on here develop that attitude, I don't know. The awful insults, comments, and degrading people on here is absolutely unbelievable. Just because you have 15, 20, 30 years of experience in this field, that is no excuse for rudeness. Once you have insulted someone to the point I have seen here, your MT experience means nothing to me, and if I were a management person and knew this about you, you would not work for my company no matter how perfect your MT skills are. This says a great deal about you. Perhaps people in general will write things they would never say to a person face to face. I happen to be a very mature, very experienced MT. I feel like my knowledge should be used to help someone, not degrade them. I hope the MTs who have posted above on this comment will continue to call these people out when they post these horrible comments. Even if you are right (which seems to be the most important thing in the world to them), there is a way of stating facts, opinions, and comments that you have yet to learn in dealing with people even if it is not face to face.

nationals are a 'rude awakening', please do not feel so bad...
You have to get really tough skin, if you want to succeed with a national, and even then your livelihood can be jeopardized at any time. There are not many laws to protect us; it is a very one-sided field, and very subjective. Some companies care only about money, and if you are okay with that, you should at least know it up front.
If you are hearing your quality is not good, but are not given any kind of help, education, instruction, advice on how to improve, you should probably look for employment elsewhere. There are a lot of sadistic people in QA and management (I think they are trying to keep/justify their jobs, so not sure if that is something that can ever be changed).
Even the worst US MT is probably not as lacking as the best India has to offer. Yet, they thrive...(?) and have no threats of being fired or losing their income.
Other than that, research, research on any company you are considering.
In my opinion, if QA people or supervisors are more important than the MT, you are at high risk of being demoralized. You want to find a company who is MT-friendly, and you can find this out by asking to speak to other people, other than the recruiters, when considering employment. Ask right out about the QA and managers, and ask to speak to some of them. Most of these companies have genuinely nice people as recruiters, trainers, support, etc. Then you get the manager and you are in hell, haha!

Yes, but you'll probably need to find a smaller MTSO.
Put your resume in the MTstars resume database specifically stating what you're looking for. The smaller MTSOs usually don't put ads in because they don't want to be bombarded with hundreds of resumes. If you leave your info, they'll come to you. I had three independent contractor "p.r.n." or "very part-time positions" this past summer, so the positions are out there. Then I figured since I was already putting in 30 hours between the three, why not just work 20+ hours as an employee? So I am. Good luck with it!

I feel exactly the same as y'all. I think we could start by sending letters not e-mails to our respective state legislators. And it would certainly not be a bad idea to send a letter to the presidential candidates. I bet Hillary would do something about it. Anyways I hope she would. My SIL is Indian. He was down here last weekend and told me he received an e-mail encouraging him to get into MT for only $450! he's a bus driver. Scam, scam, scam. He also told me that Indians are all crooks, and those are his words. he told me many stories of people stealing, bribes being expected, etc., even from the law and customs officials and the post office, on and on. So there ya go. Some may think our info is safe over there, I think not.
I have thought about contating our local TV/newspaper for the same reason -- to expose the dirty little secret at the big hospital here in town.

Basically, you've got it right. However, voice files can be large and email may reject large file attachments. Also, there's the security aspect that you didn't mention. Basically, the voice file and finished document need to be encrypted to be secure.
You said you don't have the time/didn't take the time to do the research. Lots of people have and have shared their findings time and again on this board. I, for one, am not willing to reinvent the wheel every time someone is looking for this information but doesn't want to take the time to do the legwork. No offense meant but please do take the time to educate yourself. If you really don't have the time or don't want to take that time, then be prepared to pay for that information in the form of a consultant.
You don't have to scour. Just read and hope you find one. sm
I think it's nice of the board and its sponsors to do this. I just hope they don't stop because of the few who complain about the delivery of it.

With all the letters behind their names, they should have the sense to know that if they keep the dictaphone running it means "dead air" time for whoever has to listen. It has nothing to do with ESLs. I find just as many native speakers, if not more, think that we should have so sit there while they paper shuffle or otherwise get their s - - - together. If I were getting paid by the hour, or when they used to give bonuses based on minutes of dictation, great! They could paper shuffle all they want...they're paying for their own dead air. But as little as we're already being paid for line per line, I have issue with them taking my time and food off of my children's table.

I have a group of 7 docs and they all do that plus back away, turn their head, speak as fast as they can, etc., so I have to listen over and over to get it. They have to know they are making it difficult. What bothers me most is that I have been doing them for almost 8 years and not once, not once, have any of them acknowledged me! Not a Merry Christmas, have a good day, thank you, nothing! The office manager called me once in 8 years to tell me they appreciated my work.
Doctors are SO inconsiderate
Just need a moment to vent...why are doctors SO inconsiderate??? This one doctor, which I happen to have been working on ALL morning, is so inconsiderate. She mumbles, shuffles papers with the phone in her hand, and generally just cannot be still while she's dictating...and to top that off, she will not dictate in any reasonable order. She never indicates when she's changing from history to physical to assessment to plan....UUUHHH...I am literally  !!!

I had one doc who gave me a bad checs. So, I found another account to make up for his lack of funds, but I picked up his work as usual. I did the last two tapes he gave me, but I didn't give him the work and I returned blank disks to him. His OM hated him, so she called me when she had a deposit and I met her at the bank with the checks and a bill for the new work. She gave me a new check, we took care of business, I got my all my money, and he got his work. I then notified him that I would not do his work for him any longer since he tried to stiff me for several hundred $. Boy was he mad. Tsk, tsk, tsk.
How rude and inconsiderate
was that. People did not even call to say they were not going to make the training sessions? Unbelievable. It is just a quick call. However, I am glad you found a good Transcriptionist in the process.

Exactly! It's just inconsiderate to your neighbors and unfair to do something like that!
People think they're being funny or cute but making your house look like a piece of crap is rude to the neighbors and DOES make their homes worth less than they should be. I agree that they should be forced by law to change it back.
No I don't think doctors are arrogant and inconsiderate as a whole.
Because they don't dictate the way we like isn't a personal thing against us. Some have skills with dictation that others don't. Like public speaking, some can, some can't. Doctors do have lives and problems and patients outside of trying to dictate patient records.

they don't realize how irritating it is for someone to have to listen to that crap. They just don't care.
Just make a note in your book and go on. Every book I read you can find an error
or 2. Nobody is perfect. Lucky you only paid $60. New it is $80 or more.
