That's not advice, that's rubbing salt in her wound. Your other piece of advice about getting a loan is basically stating the obvious. I'm sure the OP realizes she may have to borrow some money. I think she was probably asking what should she do about the employer treating her unprofessionally.
Basically, you gave lousy advice and your only intent was to kick her when she was down.

need advice on how to quit
Hi All,
Finally, I've had more than I can swallow at you-know-where and have accepted a job with a better company. I already feel a huge weight lifted off my shoulders!! The ESLs and constant account changes were just ridiculous.
I once saw posts with advice on how to quit without burning any bridges (e.g. what to say, how to say it), but I have spent an hour looking for them and cannot find them.
Would any of you care to share some advice again please? Appreciate it... thanks!!
How long do you give a new job before you quit?
Just started a new job two weeks ago and have a gut feeling it is not going to work out. The transcription itself is okay, it's everything else -- time consuming ADT, recordkeeping, etc.
What's the quickest you have ever quit a job or how long do you give a new job before saying Adios?
This job is a second job because I need extra money. So I can quit and still have my primary income.

how did you give up cigarettes, I am dying to quit.

Once you give notice and quit working, how many days/weeks/months
are you covered by your medical/dental insurance? My employee handbook does not mention this. Is there a "standard" period of time that you remain covered? TIA for your reply.
the best advice I could give
Make sure everyone understands that you WORK from home (it's not you're home and you work). And you have to learn the concept yourself as well.
Stick to the same schedule you did when you worked in an office. If you didn't make personal calls in the office, don't make them when you work from home. If you didn't run errands when you worked in the office, don't run errands when you work from home. (and the list goes on)
The best advice I could give to you..sm
is to get some rest!! Get yourself on a regular schedule and stick to it -- even on the weekends. For example, I am in the bed by as close to 9 p.m. as possible, watch about an hour of TV or so,and then I'm off to sleep. Also, before I go to bed, I take a 325 mg of aspirin -- it cuts down on restless leg syndrome and just makes me rest better. I'm up promptly anywhere from 6:45 to 7 (never after that -- I have an alarm set in case I don't wake up on my own), have my coffee, eat a small breakfast (believe it or not, it IS the most important meal of the day -- just a small bowel of cereal or oatmeal and a piece of toast gets me through to lunch and I'm not a big breakfast person) get cleaned up/dressed, and am at work by 7:30. Even on the weekends if I'm not working, I still get up at the same time. Your body will learn your routine and come to rely on it. Since I have been doing this (MANY years) I have found that I'm able to be sharper and more mentally aware.
I eat something small for lunch, take at least a 5-10 minute break an hour to stretch or just get up and refocus, and still am able to get a good solid 7-8 hours a day. Just what works for me!
Thank you - could you give me some advice....sm
as to which KVM switch to get? I assume I need to look for one that will hook keyboard, monitor, mouse, and speaker set all together, correct? Any suggestions for a good KVM switch and a DSL router would be greatly appreciated. TIA
The best advice I could ever give is
NEVER quit your job until you have another 1 started. You have done something foolish, should have made sure everything was go before you left the other job. The first job is right, you quit- I could not draw unemployment in my state if I quit- don't know if same for all states. Best to find somebody who will loan you some money on a short term loan. I doubt you will see any money from 2nd place.
My advice: Regroup. Find a small cave, cheap, take the kids, get a stable job (1), quit trying to
need to stabilize.
Medical transcription is not a "living" - it is a sideline anymore, unless you can find a doctors office or hospital where you can count on an income and count on medical insurance.
Leave the BF - they are dead weight. They wear you out and rarely help you find any solid footing. If your's did you wouldn't be here asking for advice.
I used to think I need to be married - then I began to ask myself: WHY AM I MORE BROKE AND MORE TIRED WITH A HUSBAND?
There were more hours in the day and more money in the bank when I was on my own with my children. We may not have had fancy things but we were happy because their mom was happy - ME.
Again, don't use 3 PT/transcription jobs or even 1 FT and some PTs to say you are making it. Either bring your budget down to living on the 1 FT and let the PT be the discretionary income (extra for savings, emergencies, etc), or leave transcription entirely. MTing is a losing proposition at this time. Unless of course, like I say, you are in a stable place like a hospital. And don't COUNT on the PT to carry you through - these nationals and side jobs are playing fast and loose with paying people or providing any security at all.
GOOD LUCK.
KT, I want to give you some personal advice ...
People respond to negative situations in two different ways. Some will learn a lesson and do all they can to help others avoid the same pain, frustration, stress, etc. Others will not learn anything but just be all the more angry, hateful, bitter, and want nothing but for everyone else who has the same issue to suffer as much or more as they did.
The difference is attitude, outlook, perception. It is the only thing you can control yourself 100%.
I guarantee you that if you look at the posts on this board, you will be able to understand more about the individuals posting here than they probably can tell you about themselves.
While it is true that your attitude will never undo actions, it WILL determine which direction you will take from that situation. A positive attitude will allow you to heal fully, to be more wise, to have more sightful judgment, to see the future with greater clarity, give you strength to take a tough stand and make difficult decisions, and above all it will keep you out of the emotional trenches that those with a negative attitude will be mired in all their lives.
Any MTSO's out there willing to give marketing advice?
I have been transcribing for 6 years and want to get my own accounts. What is the best way to do this? Any info would be great! Thanks
Anyone in the Hartford, CT area willing to give advice on what to charge.
Want to try to get my own accounts in this area, but unsure what a good rate for this area is. Any advice? Thanks in advance.
Excellent. The way I see it. She obviously has not sound advice to give any of us stay-at
home moms, so she should just keep all comments to herself. She sure does sound like a pot stirrer and so we should just ignore her. Whadda you say?
I wanted to thank all those who give me good advice last week. SM
And for listening to me boo hoo about being laid off or dissolved as the suits at the hospital like to call it. Anyway, I have officially accepted a QA Editor position with a service and I'm actually in a more positive frame of mind than I was last week.
I got my laptop all set up and ready to go with a laptop stand for plenty of ventilation, I put off buying any kind of wav player and just downloaded ExpressScribe for the time being, and I didn't saturate the market with my resume, but picked only a few places to apply based on suggestions and information you all gave me here. And I did all of this because you ladies gave me such good advice.
I just wanted to say what a great place this is and it is very, VERY wonderful to have a place to network, socialize, fellowship, or just plain gab with colleagues and friends.
I will give you my take, if you want to read it.
I have worked for places that don't even send a card. I have also worked for places that celebrated with a lot of chocolate all week. I also worked for places that do contests and drawings and you might not win anything.
I must say that I also received a $5.00 gift card today from Walmart from my 2nd job and I was tickled that they even thought of me. I am not sure if we work at the same place or not. I did not expect even that, so I was grateful! I even sent an e-mail to the boss expressing my thanks.
I am not sure why you would expect a 50.00 card! I do not know how much money my boss makes and it is not really any of my concern.
If you really wanted to, you could educate yourself and master your craft enough to go out there and open your own transcription service and then you could determine what each one would get, but remember this... the more you make, the more you spend and then you might not have enough to share either.
I would send your boss an e-mail thanking them and be grateful and good things will come your way!!!
so people who are frustrated doctors can give medical advice.
so
thanks for the advice.....I am definitely open to learning new things, so I'll give it a try!
.
Would it kill you people to give constructive advice instead of insults and insensitivity?!?
I understand your frustration. I think you just need to sit down and have a talk with your employer. Find out exactly what they want your status to be. As an employee, yes they do have the right to dictate your hours, where you work, etc., but they do not have the right to jerk you around. If they want you to work at home, then they need to provide for that, not you! Anyone who says otherwise is wrong! In any industry, if a company wants you to commute, they pay for gas/mileage. If they want you to have a cell phone/pager, they either pay for it, or they provide an allowance for it. If they want you to work at home, they provide equipment. It sounds to me like they want way too much and are giving very little. Just because a person/company is the employer, it does not give them the right to treat people like dirt, sending them on wild goose chases, interfering with their life, schedule, expenses, etc. I am sorry you have received such critical and insensitive comments. I hope this works out for you. Blessings!
Decent QA will not give a quick read without listening
You are not doing your job if that is what you are doing.
I guess the old breed of getting what the dictator says is way out of style. Companies don't care and therefore need to be put out of business.
I get paid by the hour and I listen 100% to the all ESLs that I do. I also provide feedback to the MT and mentor them. Quick read is not QA. It is nothing. If you do not hear what the dictator says, you have no idea what could have been left out.
I quit once for 3 years, but then started again. (Quit cold turkey when I did)
I quit two months ago. I tried to quit for over a year, but I just had to be ready.
I tried the patch, NRT gum, Zyban, everything. One morning, I woke up and just quit cold turkey. There are some good online support groups out there that can help you when you're ready.
ALSO IF THEY WERE GOING TO QUIT SE, THEY WOULD QUIT ADVERTISING TO HIRE SE
And I have seen a new ad in the magazine Advance that has a sign on bonus for SE's, maybe just better pay, let's think positive!!
I don't believe in "the one"
Some people are more complacent than others and can have a successful relationship with just about anyone.
Others are harder to please or pickier, and there are people that those folks who fall into this category can have a successful relationship with, and others with whom they cannot.
The key is to find out which TYPE of person is best matched to your personality, your goals, your life-style and find someone like that.
There is no ONE person for each of us, but some personality types that mesh better than others.
"The right way"
I've been in that situation myself. What I have done is, if the dictation is absolutely absurd and I was expected to transcribe it as such, then at the bottom of the report, in very small font, I typed in : transcribed verbatim.
"The Letter"
I got my "letter" from MQ today, and immediately called my supervisor to tell him that once that goes into effect I will no longer to ASR.......... hopefully everyone will do this (or at least the majority) and MQ will hear us ??
"the cone"
When my little boy (dog) was neutered, I thought for sure the vet would make us use "the cone." However, he said to just get an all white cotton t-shirt and you can slip it over the dog's head and the dog's legs fit perfectly in the arm holes. The cotton t-shirts are nice and soft and come down long enough to cover that private area!
If you put "the patient" you won't need to worry about it. sm
In fact, most accounts want "the patient" due to confidentiality reasons.
she thinks she is "the mama"
riiiiiggghhht.
"The Language of Medicine" sm
is a very good book and very thorough. I would recommend it highly.
Married? When did you know that your mate was "the" one for you? sm
I just got engaged and knew the minute I met him that he was the one for me. He felt it too - we just waited until we dated a while before making it official.
How about you?
Yes, it begins with a "T" but don't know what you mean by "the line" (see msg)
Yes, that is how I quit, just couldn't take the crap software for one more minute. I had heard VR was coming, and there was no way, Jose, I was planning on editing any Indians. My friends who are still there, some are editing, and are making less than half of what they made transcribing. Boy am I glad I got out of there. Now work for a company with a great platform, and they don't offshore.
Anything that "The Girls Next Door" say
"The pen is mightier than the sword"
AND! "It's the squeaking wheel that gets the grease."
Go git 'em!
You never saw "The Sound of Music"?
According to the song, Maria was a flibbertigibbet.
Could you not put like "the patient" in most places rather than he/she? nm

This was just TOO funny! As soon as I viewed this on YouTube, I immediately thought of everyone at MT Stars.

you don't put your family at risk by taking in strangers. That's just plain foolish. There were over 3300 registered sex offenders in NO. Where are they now. In your community? Perhaps in your house? Good luck.
oh our lovely government does give illegals medicaid, foodstamps, and housing so in term we give tha
i have been through some rough times lately and had to apply for some help. there are signs, big signs, all over our offices saying "YOU DON'T HAVE TO BE LEGAL TO GET HELP". so we and our government do give them our benefits whether they are legal here or not. now that is messed up. i am helping to support them so they can take away my jobs and i can't even support my kids and yes i get benefits, wow $75 a month in food stamps which lasts not even a week in a household of 6. don't get me wrong, i am thankful for any help at the moment, but i get penalized for trying to work my tail off and still can't survive.
there was recently an article in our local newspaper where one of our local school districts tried to charge $1000 a year for each illegal student enrolled. it was bulked and the illegals got a lawyer to sue for discrimination. the school district merely stated that they had to HIRE extra teachers that could speak the foreign language just to teach these children and were trying to offset some of the expenses. ridicilous!! so again our taxpayers money is paying to educate illegals as well.
Do NOT quit MT yet! & dont quit looking.Try her
x
No, she does not.She will be asking us "the govt" to supply her necessities
and we will do it. You and I, who carry Wal-Mart purses (speaking for myself, of course). Makes me mad too. I also noticed the Budweiser can. Jaundiced eye? I think not.
I agree with "the word" but it can sure help you transcribe everything
:i
They even say they work for "the company that cannot be named"
Most of the replies are from MQers.
You're caught! LOL
Dum-dum-dum-dummmmmbbbbbbbb!!
Cool avatar, though.
"The big kids" don't like MPI, but I do. It helped me immeasurably when SM
I was first working. I have since bought them as gifts to starting-up MTs. I like the book. I have not seen Stedman's, but I don't generally trust Stedman's at all for anything. I use the books, I have a bunch of them, but I don't like them much. They're just all we have and it's better than nothing.
I think it speaks volumes that they have a "correction card" included with each book.
I've been nicknamed "The Whisperer"
She knows that I an understand people with accents in general, especially ESL as an MT. So she had me "interpret" for her yesterday. She tried to cancel a service and the co wanted to assess a fee. A rep called to let her know that they were waiving the fee, and he left a voice-mail (thick Middle Eastern accent). She calls to tell me me she only understands that he says [the name of the co] and "call customer service."
So she does a 3-way call for me to listen to the saved voice-mail (Message Center). I listened, and she said wait and was getting ready to play it again. I said, "Mom...um...I understand," and proceeded to tell her everything that he said. Her words, "You understand that?!?" Yup! She laughs hard and says, "Hey, I'm going to put you on the Oprah Winfrey show as 'The Whisperer!'" I think all my neighbors heard me laugh.
dictated "the patient will use acyclovir"
and eScription text on screen was "the patient will use a cycle of beer" HAHA! It's Miller time.
"The Death" of Medical Transcription
I have to agree with you wholeheartedly. I think it is a shame what has happened to our profession.
It seems that people with 25-30+ years of experience are either transcription service owners or instructors in medical transcription. Very few transcriptionists with
a lot of experience are doing "sweat shop" transcription.
I feel sorry for those students who are being misguided that they will become transcriptionists and be able to work at home and make a lot of money. I am afraid they are going to be in for a big surprise!
I do not understand how medical documentation ever transpired into a production-oriented job. Production WILL have priority over quality when it comes to a paycheck. Why bother looking up terms in reference books or on the internet? That takes a lot of time and can affect an MT's paycheck.
I compare a medical Transcriptionist to a robot -God forbid you go to the bathroom and stop production!
Perhaps a Walmart greeter would be a more pleasant and less stressful work environment!
The plastic surgeon on "The Doctors"
is very reputable. I would go to his website (can find through the show's website) and either email him or call for information/opinion.
The key is to deal with someone you know is on the ball and above board.
I just said hello to "the paper boy." He is about 50, drives a nice car and seems happy.
