Radio Shack carries all kinds of adapters and gizmos, too. nm

Radio Shack
I have 3 pedals hooked up and needed another serial port. Radio Shack has the adapter you plug into your USB for about 20.00. Worked like a charm. The only tricky part is finding the right port listed in the program you are using.
Radio Shack

They sell a very inexpensive adapter for serial and/or game port to USB.  Mine works fine with Dictaphone EXText, eScription EditScript, etc.  I think I paid $10 for it at a local store.

You can search radio shack online and see if your local store has them in stock or can get them.    many many new computers are going to exclusively USB ports, no more serial or parallel

radio shack has it all.

Might try Radio Shack. n,
.
I got one at Radio Shack
I told them what I wanted. It was a little plug-in and to switch from one computer to the other, I just hit ScrLk 2 times. Super easy to hook up and super cheap too!
try radio shack..

Try radio shack...for the past 4 or 5 days have been having very poor quality voice out of the blue - couldn't figure if it was my computer or phone lines or the client - but for 19.95 from R Shack I have ordered a head set that covers over background noise and also has a low/hi volume control, which I think I will really like...will let you know how it is when I get it if you are still having problems...the radio shack guy said he had 3 orders before mine...so maybe the MT world was aware they were on sale...Good Luck!

Did you try Radio Shack????
They have those adapters and they're cheap. They have all KINDS of adapters. Also replacement foams of various types.
i have found that radio shack has

several adapters to choose from to convert to a USB port.  with each newer version of computers they seem to be cutting out the older types of ports (like used for older foot pedals/game ports, etc) and using "s" connections, usb, etc.  the computer that I have from 1995 has different ports than the tower I bought last summer and my laptop that I bought last summer so I have to use an adapter and everything is fine.

radio shack; have bought several there nm
;
You might try a filter that you can get from Radio Shack.
It is probably just interference from something in your neighborhood, perhaps a ham operator or something like that?
Radio Shack in Portland, OR has them -- nm
 Found them there
Radio Shack headphones
Yes, several people are recommending those Radio Shack Koss headphones (I am getting some emails too). It looks like those might be the ones to try!
I use DVI too and got an adapter at Radio Shack
for about 17.00.  You can check in-store stock on-line to see if a local store may have one.
Radio Shack has lots of different ones. nm

There are Sony ones at Radio Shack sm
that were suggested to me so I bought a pair.  They are silver and look sort of like Spock ears when you have them on.  I think they come with a year warranty or maybe I bought that for a few cents, can't remember now.   I really like those.
Got mine at Radio Shack
I have bought them from Office Depot many times as well. My recent ones came from Radio Shack and are Presidian noise cancelling headphones. I love them.
I have a Radio Shack one that was on sale for about $79 but it usuallySM

is around $100 -- a portable one that I bought a power supply for.

I hear everything. Fires, fights, rapes, hostage situations (YES!), wrecks, stabbings, shootings, mean dogs - you name it. I sleep to it.

How lame is that? LOL. I will readily admit I have NO LIFE.

transcriptiongear.com might have it or even Radio Shack on line. nm

Bose Headphones/Radio Shack

I have definitely been considering ordering the Bose QC-3, but am a little hesitant because of their price.  I did find better prices on E-Bay, but not sure you would get a warranty with those (some are new though).  Also, since I do dictation via C-phone not sure they would work for that.

A few years ago I also had the noise canceling headphones from Radio Shack and used them off and on while working on-site, but found them to be very warm and a bit heavy...after a few years though they were not working well...and that is why I am looking at the Bose.

Also tried the Etymotic 6 earbuds, which were supposed to be so good.  They are good, but I can't stand to have the earbuds in my ears for a very long period of time.

Let me know if you purchase the Bose...would like to hear your opinion.

If you go to messages from last week here there are a lot of good things said about the Bose QC earphones (both 2 and 3).

Yes, I had that happen. I went to Radio Shack, explained...
my circumstances and they sold me a filter that took care of the problem EXCEPT when the ham operator ramped up. IF you know where the tower is, these people should be reported - it's against federal guidelines to ramp up that heavily. I found the tower (down the street from me), called him in, and the feds they came a-knockin'. Funny - no more problems! Good luck!
I don't know about an adapter. Check Radio Shack as they
do have other types of adapters and may have something that will work for you.
If all you need is volume control, Radio Shack sm

Radio Shack sells an extender cord that has a volume control device in it for $10 or so.

I can't stand anything sticking into my ears, so I only use the "earmuff" style headphones. In fact, I just had to buy a pair because my old ones died, and using the ones my company supplied was killing my ears. I found a pair of JVC headphones that are DJ-style and have an in-line volume control on them. By plugging them into the audio jack on the front of my PC, it cut out the humming noise I got when plugging them into my speakers, and by covering my ears, they cut out all the extra noise from the house. I was shocked at how loud my keyboard was when I had to use the other headphones because these muffle it so much.

Try Radio Shack. I buy my pedal adapters there. They might be able to help you. nm

Koss DC-10 and radio shack booster

Radio Shack does not appear to carry theirs anymore. This one on ebay might work similarly.

Ah, fun times at Radio Shack, BTDT.
Even if you explain the situation to them, they often won't get the deal about what ''gender'' plugs you need, heh.

BTW, didn't you originally say your foot pedal was USB? I'm really confused now, if what you ended up needing was a VGA splitter and not a USB hub because of your lack of USB ports?
Get a game port/USB adapter from Radio Shack - This will at
problem. I am sorry you are having trouble. I love my Dell, but use serial port (9-pin) for my work. Have used the game port adapter at a previous job without a problem though.
Stereo-to-Mono adapter at Radio Shack
Buy a little stereo-to-mono adapter at Radio Shack, well under $10.  The earphones you are trying to use are stereo, and are picking up only one channel.  I have bought earphones at Target and Radio Shack for years, and keep a couple of these little adaptors on hand in my office "junk drawer."
Take foot pedal to Radio Shack and tell 'em what you
iyu
I've purchased them at both Radio Shack and on Ebay. sm

If I remember correctly, they're called earbud cushions.

A variety of them can be purchased online here:

I just bought headphones from radio shack, on sale $19, t

they are the ear bud style but have this grey cushion that sticks into your ears.  I haven't had a problem since I bought them.  They also have a volume control which I love!

NOrdstrom's carries Bare Minerals

That is what I am told and keep thinking about checking it out but haven't yet.  I also love it and to be sure as I felt like I could not see a difference, I did one side of my face with it and one with my "old" Clinique make-up and there was a HUGE difference.  So that sold me.  It lasts longer and I think it does work out to be about as much as Clinique or the other ones and it is worth it to me as I get older.  But I did hear it was being sold at Nordstrom's and so that might help with the shipping as that is what adds to it.

Working at home carries special challenges sm
I take exception to the person who said you must never have worked outside of your home. Phooey!

When you work outside the house...you have a babysitter, you put on decent clothing, you leave the house. You spend your day primarily with other adults. You have to limit your personal calls. Someone else provides your workspace, your desk, your pencils for goodness sake. Your coworkers have their own supplies too. Someone else outlines the course of your day and what you will do in it. You probably have a steady task assigned to you and you know what it is. Yes, you go home to housework, but it is what you left that morning, it didn't breed while you were gone.

When you work at home, your "office space" may be a loose term. Your coworkers are children, grandchildren and anyone else who feels entitled to be there. Your "coworkers" help themselves to your office supplies. Because you are an MT, no one assigns you tasks that are consistent. No one can know from day to day how much work will be there to be done, who will be dictating it, how long it will be, nor how long it will take to complete. You will do this in a vacuum to a great extent and not have any other adults to interact with. Because you are at home, dishes and laundry breed and multiply during your work day.

Now add to this that no one, other than your fellow MTs, have the slightest idea what you do or what it takes to get it done. They have seen those incredibly imbecilic ads on TV and, as they have no other frame of reference, expect this to be YOU. They don't seem to connect that when your hands are not on the keyboard, you are not making any money. They don't get that you can't talk AND listen AND type all at the same time. Your average human can't talk, listen and type at the same time, and goodness knows that they usually can't walk and chew gum at the same time...but you are an MT and they A$$ume you can because working at home has imbued you with superhuman powers.

Remember that old old Geritol commercial? You do so much for so many...and while your problem probably isn't constipation, you are suffering. We are women and somehow we expect a lot from ourselves, but I am telling you, others expect even more. In the end, what really gets juggled out of the equation is time for oneself to do as one pleases...bubble bath, coffee out of the house and ALONE, time for a friend, for a walk, for a bit of relaxation that really would add to quality of lives and make us feel more adequate for the tasks of life and work.

I know that when my kids were growing up I had to set limits about their mess, their noise and their pestering of the mama while she was working. In exasperation one afternoon I shouted at them: Clean the house!!!! See these hands? They feed you, they clothe you, and they do it at the keyboard. I make $20 an hour (it has been a while) and every time you interrupt me, it means I don't make the money for something YOU WANT. If I clean the house, every hour I spend costs YOU $20 AND something you think you need or want. By helping out, you literally put money in all our pockets. By giving me the time and the space and the quiet and the lack of interruptions to work, you are literally putting more money in our pockets. So, kiddos, what will it be?

You know, after that I rarely loaded the dishwasher, never had to clean a floor again, vacuum...all sorts of stuff. My chore was the laundry and I could do that on my MT breaks. If they started to fall off a bit, I would show them my hands and say something like "my time is your money" and they were back on task. I was a single parent for years and MT supported us, and more handsomely when they got the picture.
Sally's? Wow, I would never have guessed. JCPenny carries some at their jewelry counter as well
nm
half.com carries used Sted's books and new ones thru Amazon. Good luck! nm

The Shack
Has anyone read "The Shack"?  Can't remember the author's name, but for me, this is one of the most interesting books I've ever read.  No, I'm not a religious nut, don't even go to church, however, I am spiritual and this book is amazing.  Any other comments out there?
Love Shack and That Old Time a Rock n' Roll!!

radio
My treadmill is still buried, but it is also a resolution of mine. :)

Ask hubby if he will wear a headset. Unlikely, I know. I wouldn't want to. Does his radio have an antennae? or is it hooked into cable. Ours, once hooked into cable, got way less static. Best of luck!!
Sorry should have said he was on radio
here and every now and then has a television special. Great guy!
Why? No different than a radio or any other

Listen to him on radio
I sometimes listen to him while doing my late afternoon pick-up and deliveries on the radio.  I have also found out that a lot of time giving praise and appreciation to them when they do the job -- even though it is not to our satisfaction or as well as we can --gives them incentive to do more.  We don't like to be cut down all the time and have to re-do and so even though it may not be up to my standards I try to let the kids know that I appreciate it -- unless of course they have done a poor job on purpose -- another subject.
sirrius radio help

My husband has it in his car and I would like to listen at home, called customer service and the person had a limited knowledge of English so I had trouble understanding her. (Went to their website). Do I need an antenna and special radio or what?  It sounds like the price is inclusive once I get the equipment for the home radio.  Thanks

I listen to Dr. Joy Brown sometimes on the radio

e-mail her or call her and see what she says. She gives pretty good advice and is FREE!!

If you can be positive about this relationship, you can be positive about yourself and meeting someone else. Remember, your gut feeling is what's right, and I think I know what your gut is telling you or you wouldn't be posting this in the first place, you just need someone to back you up. Don't waste any more time. & don't talk about THE REST OF YOUR LIFE -- you have choices you can make in this too as much as he has the choice to do/not do something -- it's just that you have the choice to stay in this stagnent pool of muck or get out, clean yourself off and never return to the dirty pool. Who knows what the future holds for you, but if you stay with him it will just be this same cycle over and over again, unfortunately. I say cut your losses now.
