Have you ever worked for one? I have. All the easy work goes to India. The junk comes to the US-based MTs. I worked there for 2 years until I could take no more. Should have walked out on training. If you want an Indian-based company so badly, go for it. I can tell you first hand, though, you will eventually regret it. No offense intended, but I have lived it and will NEVER work for an Indian-owned company again, even if I have to leave transcription and go back to the office, God forbid!

  Our country sucks when it comes to teamwork. My experience is in hospital transcription and 95% foreign dictators. Most of my dictators are from India and surrounding countries. Give up you all,  India is already way ahead of us!

a dictation I had today. This radiologist was talking like he was gushing love all through his transvaginal ultrasound report. I had to ask myself if this dictation was for real (hadn't transcribed for him before)! Then, his next dictation was all gushy too, and it was a renal ultrasound on a man, so what a treat, huh?!!! I can actually type really fast to it!

You know, your post reminded me of the fact that...
people in general think doctors are here to serve us as humanitarians, as if they don't have a right to make money being a doctor. It's as if they are evil if they want to make money at their profession. Last time I checked, people who attend medical school are often spending their own money (6 figures plus), taking out loans, or working hard to qualify for a scholarship, and why shouldn't they make money after they finish all that schooling? Now if the govt wanted to pay their training, some doctors could choose that route and be happy with the reimbursement the govt. deems fair. I think that will ultimately be the only way we will come up with a medical care system for those who cannot afford insurance. In the UK you can choose govt care or private insurance. In Canada you are not allowed to practice medicine privately without HUGE penalties. A complicated matter, for sure.

I too am reminded of a story, and a comment
I was transcribing a doctor's dictation in his office. He was walking by while I was listening to something garbled. I put the transcriber on speaker and asked him what he was saying. He could not figure it out! He gave me some other sentence to put in there. Sadly, his dictation never improved after that.
My comment: While working in the hospital we often could pick out some of the best docs by the way they dictated, we could also pick out the worst ones. Most of the time we were right.
Advertise --get the word out
It might be hard to pick up just a "small" account unless it is a stand alone doctor and then it has to be worth while to probably do pick-up and delivery. But you just have to get the word out that you are looking and ready to take another account on board but be prepared to do tapes or digital. Good luck, try chiropractors, psych or podiatrist if you want a smaller account.

I have only been an MT for 9 years and it has changed dramatically in work and in pay since I first started. I myself have returned to school for another career (something I did not plan to do when I originally went for this), but I will continue to work from home as an MT (hoping my job lasts that long) until I get my degree. How long is your course? (I went to the local community college for 2 years) How much do you have left? Are you interested in doing this as a temp. position while you go back for something else maybe down the road if needed?

They have been doing this for years. I had to nearly take them to court to be paid for two weeks worth of typing. I can't believe that they are still getting away with this. PLEASE, in the best interest of honest MTs looking for an honest day's wage, STOP ALLOWING THEM TO ADVERTISE ON THIS WEBSITE OR ANY OTHER MT JOB WEBSITE. TIA
It's obvious that MTSOs paying 10+ cpl don't advertise on any job boards I've seen...
This board is anonymous and you would be doing your fellow MTs a great disservice by not sharing the names of all these nationals willing to pay that much per line. I'm about to be evicted so if anyone here would be kind enough to share this information, it would be greatly appreciated! If there are so many MTSOs paying at this rate, you shouldn't have to be concerned about job security by sharing the wealth.

My sis is a flight attendant and loves to spontaneously fly into town for a day THEN call me to see if I can a)pick her up from the airport or b)hang out with her for the day.

It was horrible at my last job. The supervisor told us to never, ever touch the thermostat. She'd sit in her office with a heating vent and get too hot, so she'd turn the heat down. My cubicle was by the windows in the winter with subzero temperatures. I was so cold that I had on my winter coat, gloves and a blanket. Then in the summertime, it was too hot with the sun reflecting through the windows. I used to climb up on my desk and change the thermostat anyway. I loved ticking that woman off because she was such a shrew. She was firing any employee who had more than 10 years of service because they were making too much money. She could hire college grads with more technical skills at lower wages. So much for not discriminating against people for their age. The things she wrote them up for were asinine.
