Does anyone have any info on Freedom Type?
If anyone works for them, has worked for them or has any info (pay, flexibility, good to work for, equipment, etc.) I would appreciate it. Thanks!
Freedom Type...Anyone out there with any info?
Anything at all would be helpful. Thanks!
THANKS KRIS AND NM for info on Freedom Type
That helps!
I heard they were not nice to work for. Knew people who have worked there and left.
This is secondhand information, but I trust the people that told me this.
150 wpm straight typing.....sm
In high school 1st quarter typing I was doing 70 wpm, by the end of the 1st year of typing in high school I was at 100 wpm. At the end of the 2nd year of typing I was averaging 140 wpm.
Are you asking for VR or straight typing?
VR will give you much higher line counts but not at 7-10 cpl.
Straight typing please (nm)

For those who have gone from straight typing to VR...
What sort of training did you get? What sorts of things did you wish you'd gotten for training? Thanks :-)
I have straight typing in there as well
so that pay is higher and I have speed on fast forward. If you have the speed, probably can do the 3000 or better a day. I set the goal for myself at 3000 so I would bring home what I wanted every 2 weeks.
Is this straight typing....
What exactly are you typing?
I get 4 cpl for editing and between 8.4-10 for straight typing nm

Pretty much straight typing.

Getting paid only for STRAIGHT TYPING
My company set me up to work from home - - - I am new at this and confused and am need of imput from others in the field. Currently I get pain 8 cents per line. I have a quota of 7,000+ lines a week - -however the computer I have been set up with does not enable me to add programs (if I wanted to add a word expansion program) and, interestingly, the ability to set up macros in MS Word has been disabled.
With that said - - - For example, I will type a new consult on a patient that ends up being 4 pages in length. I want to "work smarter and not harder" (who doesn't) so I incorporate word Expanders that I have in MS Word Auto Text as well as an Auto Text "intial office visit" outline which includes the doctor's "normal" exam. All I have to do are make any necessary changes with each individual patient. We use a nationally known dictation program/softwear which enables me to go to a "statistics" screen to see the line count for each document I have typed. I have been finding, however, that on these 4 page consults, I am only being credited for 60 lines or so - - - aren't there 65 lines PER PAGE - - -why is it not 4 times that amount?? Looks like I am only getting paid for STRAIGHT TYPING, not for the total line count of the end product.
She says it's straight typing, expanders only,

Do you make $$ with VR or straight typing?
I am a slow typer so I was wondering if maybe I should be doing VR instead of straight typing. Any thoughts on this from anyone who is a slow typer?
Thanks
I just don't see how it is possible to produce 3800+ straight typing in a day
I'm not saying you didn't. I just don't see HOW. I'm a pretty high producer myself, but I worked with a national once that didn't pay spaces and my line count dropped from 1700 lpd to 1100. How in the world do you manage 3800+ with no spaces?
Who prefers VR and who refers straight typing? nm
xx
Hi, Trying. You're basically right about the straight typing, I think. SM
But as eScription learns to handle the practitioners' dictation, the product you are presented with is more and more an already-typed document and your job is to edit that. Speedy fingers are still helpful, but production also depends on ability to read quickly, recognize and correct technical errors quickly (potassium 45 to 4.5) and decide on necessary grammar/punctuation changes quickly. I have the dictation speed pumped up as high as I can manage to drop in periods and caps and so on and still keep up with.
It will take a while for the practitioners and computer to get in the groove, though, and for some months the documents will come through in various degrees of mess, some good and some awful that you're just slogging through. During this period you guys are working to train the computer through your corrections feedback. The company I work for dealt with this by paying us full transcription rates for editing during the worst of this. Since editing production is a lot higher than transcription, though, the pay per line drops to reflect this. In our case, to half, but I still make more now because I can edit more than twice what I can type.
For that and for the work itself, I really like editing and would hate to go back to transcribing full time (a small percentage is still transcribing physicians who aren't willing to make the few adjustments needed to accommodate the computer's needs). And you're really fortunate in your hospital's choice because eScription/EditScript (the part you work with) is a wonderful program, easy to learn and work with. Best wishes. And have fun!
my VR pays 4 cpl for editing and 8.4-10 cpl for straight typing.
That includes all the lines on the page, even if I don't have to edit some.
Question about lines - straight typing to....
Hi,
I have a job currently where I basically am straight typing the dictation without an Expander program except for the basics, stuff like patient and high blood pressure.. Not really that much.. I currently type on average 185 lines per hour. what do you think that equates to typing with an expander. I know its not an exact science or anything but I am trying to gauge how much I can expect as it will likely influence my decision on the different jobs. Anyone know how much their productivity increased with a good expander program?
so this doesn't equate to .09 straight typing like...
they promise? i'm trying to see how i can make a living at that pay; it sounds like minimum wage or less (my poor hands :(
Wants high quality finished product at 3 cpl editing and 6-8 cpl straight typing. Also rumored she
doesnt like to pay in a timely manner. I passed..
If a company has you type on straight Word..
is there any way to put your own Expander software with that and if so, what is recommended. I have always had the company supply the software including expanders, but wondered if there is a way to use these in Microsoft Word. Thanks for any help!!!
I type straight through, then run spell-check,
then go back and proofread. Even if I sort of "speed-read", it's amazing the silly mistakes you can find that spell-check doesn't! Words left out, portions of a sentence typed twice (which spell check won't cover like it does double words), and accidental "macro misfires". (Those can be very FUNNY when caught, would be EMBARRASSING if they went through.) Proofing slows me down, but not as much as having to go back and correct the entire report does.
VR reports get paid VR rate whether I straight type or not.
I have just gotten to the point where on certain docs I know their VR sucks, so I straight type because it ends up being faster. It sucks, but that is the way the business is now a days, so I don't have much of a choice. I need a job, and I like where I am at, so don't like to speak up too much because the are really pushing the VR.
I was very productive on straight and don't know where people
get this idea that only nonproductive people prefer VR. I was very fast on straight, still am but I happen to love VR, still have occasional straight. I totally disagree with you on this. I did over 2000 lines on straight but on my VR platform do around 3000 or better, never double and certainly not triple. I especially like because ESLs are much easier to edit than to straight type those now as we have so many more to do than in years past. People used to ask to see me type I would be so fast, clocked at 145 WPM and love, love VR.
I was nice today, and people were nice to me.
If you steer away from the nastiness, there are a few nice and encouraging posts in there.
Got a nice thank you gift from All Type.
They are very nice to us.
I said I didn't want to cause trouble. I'm a nice person.
I don't want trouble here either. Keep it nice.
Yes - I agree - my 2 employers didn't even acknowledge MT week - so this was very nice
I think it is nice of her to help other people...sm
Nothing wrong with that. Also I guess she has been doing this long enough maybe she is confidant in herself. I don't see anything wrong with that. I don't think shs is braggin on herself. Sometimes it just ticks you off when you have someone over you who acts like you don't know what you are doing.
It depends where you work and what your straight rate is.
I make 75% of my straight rate for VR. This is the highest I have seen. It seems like most seem to offer 50% of straight. DON'T accept that. It is way too low. I don't produce that much more with VR than I did with straight. I am on an account though that is newer to VR, so some adjustments are still being made. Unfortunately even with VR, I probably just give up and straight transcribe half of my VR work that I am getting. It is way faster than trying to fix every other word of an entire report.
I didn't go into labor until 2.5 weeks later, so it didn't work. Sorry!...nm

Nice people, but pay is bad plus no pay for spaces.
Yes they also offshore. They are not very flexible.
Amphion People are Nice
Hi. I don't work for Amphion, but I know a couple of people who do. They are both in management, and they are really, REALLY nice people. Do you have an interview for an MT position? If so, you'll be just fine! The thing that matters most as an MT is your ability to decifer what's dictated and type it accurately!!! :)
Nice to see people care
I am relatively new to this site, but from reading the posts it seems like there are several negative people out there who probably don't care about the person you are writing about. Unfortunately, I did not read her post and I don't know where she is, but I hope for her sake she is okay. I have been troubled to the point of not wanting to be here anymore, but I was able to get help, and now I am doing great. I just wanted to thank you for caring. If you should here from here, please let us know.
You all are a pretty nice bunch of people, you know.
Donating to the kids of fellow MTs, taking the time to email people and encourage them on how to be better MTs. I'm really touched. This month has been pretty rough but y'all are certainly putting the reason for the season out there. You'll never know how much one email can impact somebody's day.
Very nice people.. but log sheet is very tedious! nm
.
Let me add though, the people there were awesome and very nice!! I wish it would have worked because
Nice people, good price
Well, thank you for that. It's about time we get some decent service and good prices on equipment for the work we do. Maybe things are changing for the better. Do ya think????
It's nice to see so many people on here moving to better jobs!
There seems to be an increasing trend on here. I know there are still a lot of unhappy MTs out there, but more and more every day I am seeing MTs who go ahead and get out of their dead end jobs. I am so happy for all of you. Just made a move myself recently and I am so much happier. When you get up every day and hate going to work and your life is miserable - it no longer matters how long you have been there. It is not worth it. This business is constantly changing and we have to change with it, hopefully for the better. For whatever reasons, in the last 6-8 months there have been an enormous amount of unhappy MTs because of the changes being made at these companies. Therefore, the amount of resumes and applications being submitted to job posts have also been enormous as I was told by the recruiter that hired me. Hopefully that will settle down soon and those of you who have been unable to find a better job will have much more success. Don't give up though, it just may take a little more time. Congratulations to all who have landed better jobs and good luck to the rest. We're pulling for you.
To finish...no one obviously feels like typing up, so the night people get the pool garbage. Grrrr.
,,
Pay is average, benefits are expensive, but seem like nice people.
nm
why do people want to turn nice things dirty?
I am so sick of people like this that just seem to ruin everything. This is how it all starts!!!! I love that this is a place I could be with my fellow MTs since I work at home. This is like my office!!! I love that our mod is looking out for us. THANKS!!!!
I ask them how many people they know that can type. (see message)
They usually know a lot of people who can type. Then I ask them how many people do they know that do MT work at home? Usually they don't know hardly anyone except me. So I tell them, "There's a reason for that!" If they think it's so simple, how come they don't know hardly anyone who's doing it?! LOL
You said THAT right! Most people avoid her type
nm
She didn't just "not" tell people, she
deliberately misled people into thinking she had done it all by diet and exercise, which is a lie. She could have and should have just refused to discuss it, instead of lying about it.
If you don't want to tell me, fine, don't tell me, but don't lie about it.
No, no, I didn't mean that, please, I did not mean that. MTs are the most generous people in the
NM
My people skills are just fine. I just want to hire people who want to work.
I've not been ugly, I've asked questions, legitimate ones. Please tell me what is wrong with that. This site is not just for MTs, it is for QA Editors, Supervisors, Service Owners, there's even sections for Billers, Coders, and Nurses.
