Would you consider $1000 a week, IC status, working 5 hours a day, 5 days a week "great money"?
What do you make a week and how many hours do you work?
This is for informational purposes only and not to belittle or degrade anyone or boast and put anyone on a soapbox about their income.
Thanks for your help!

No such thing as "good" money sm
There is money for some - is there any such thing as "bad" money? I was told by a health information "director" with high-level degrees who outsourced 12 million lines per se that we are a "dying breed - dinosaurs" who are going to be obsolete. I wanted to bite her head off. But truthfully, that's how some think of us. So if you are making "good" money, then thank your lucky stars because it may not last. Then you will have to join the ranks of those who are struggling. My past experience is that those who make "good money" don't brag about it. I'm not flaming you, I'm just asking you to have a heart and realize that you have to walk in others' shoes. Sometimes they pinch and some day you may have to wear them. So please calm down and let others speak from their hearts, not their pocketbooks. I used to do a platform in MT on career day at a local college but stopped two years ago because I told the director that I in all honesty could not encourage people to spend two years tuition on a career that may be outsourced and/or obsolete. I really meant that. Nuff said!
It depends on what you define as "good money". sm
I do acute care, part time, no more than 24 hours a week and made 56K for the year.
Everyone's definition of good money is different - I think.
And what do you consider "a ton of money" ? What do you make weekly? nm

Poll: What do you consider a good income for MT work currently?
You can answer in your subject line. Talking about gross annual income:
1) $20,000 to $30,000
2) $30,000 to $40,000
3) $40,000 to $45,000
4) $45,000 to $50,000
5) $50,000 and up
6) $60,000 and up
MT work - IC or employee or MTSO, even QA work could be included here.
I would like to take a quick poll...
Just for the sake of making myself feel better. Have any of you switched jobs frequently in the last 5 years while trying to find a nice "fit." I would like to look for a new job but just hate how it would look in my resume. I have had 3 jobs in 2 years and just can't seem to fine my niche. Anyone else move around like that trying to find a home?
Not MT-related, but a quick poll....sm
If you receive poor service from a business do you:
A. Discuss the problem with the first employee you come in contact with.
B. Call/visit the manager and discuss the issue.
C. Let's say that A&B didn't bring resolution. Would you then contact the next higher up person, i.e. the owner, company headquarters, etc. or would you just forget it?
Curosity- I am curious if I am making the normal amount of money weekly for MT. Would anyone care
to share their weekly amount of pay?
Quick wedding poll time...
Did anyone out there wear a wedding dress without a veil? I'm not wild about any of the veils I've seen and think one might annoy me rubbing against my shoulders, therefore I am considering not buying one to go with the dress. The dress is a full length puffy styled one. Will I be creating a new fashion statement if I don't wear one? (smile).
Can I take a quick poll? How many of you are sick of seeing ads promising....sm
"Be a medical transcriptionist, fast start-up, make 60,000 plus your first year!!!! Guaranteed!! It makes our profession look like a get rich quick scheme instead of a vocation/career/profession, and they never talk about the difficulties newbies can face getting IN to a great position.........I just think it is so misleading and hurts the profession, and I worry about young girls/moms trying to make a living, what do you all think??? Especially since this site uses their advertisements, more truth in advertising perhaps???
She'd bring home more at 30 CPL...
...but do I deserve that for just sitting on my arse and typing? :) No.
Gas stations make a lot of money. Why do attendants only get minimum wage.
If you're THAT good, you'd be an MTSO.
Start your own business. Don't be lazy AND greedy.
On #1, I meant to add -- bring home pay!
I say my "little job" got me $900 last week - and how much did you bring home?????

Mumbai - time to bring our records home
Does anyone wonder not if but when our medical records will be compromised by sending them to India now that the terrorists have taken up residence there? And you folks from India, please don't try to defend as there is no defense. Our medical records are at risk and they need to come back home.
No, usually it's just winding up as all the kids bring home crud from school.
The 4th of July is slow. Christmas is never slow for me.
Is anyone doing anything else at home to supplement MT income?
I need some ideas. Besides running out of work, I am on burn out. Please give me some ideas to make some cash at home w/o going back out into the workplace. I thought about e-bay but I don't have an ongoing product to sell.
Thanks!
How about a home health aide or an aide for Hospice? Get paid weekly, too. nm

Question on Income Taxes and Home Office
I need some input, please, on our tax situation. I moved to a new state and am having a new tax guy this year. I always declare my home office and a percentage of my utilities - have done so for 10+ years. This new tax guy said that my home office deductions won't matter, as they aren't higher than the standard deduction we are allowed as a married couple, and he can't believe I have never just filed a fast simple tax form without itemizing. My old tax guy never said a word - he would just get all my home office figures for me each year and said he "entered them" on my taxes. He also charged me around $350 to "itemize" each year, just for these home office figures. They are always about $3000 a year total. So now it seems I've been throwing my $$ out the window with my old tax guy? I always thought our home office deductions were able to be written off, so to speak, separate from that individual standard deduction. So, either my new tax guy doesn't know what he's talking about, or my old guy didn't. I have a feeling the new guy is right, though, the way he explained it. Does our home office deduction have to be more than the regular old standard deduction? Or does our home office cost count separately on taxes? Thanks for any help, as I don't want to hire a THIRD tax guy to check the other two. Thank goodness I never did Turbo Tax - I'd be even more lost.
Disciplined at home=money. (nm)

I have to disagree. I make more money from home
The issue doesn't have anything to do with inhouse or outsourcing.
Some of us stay at home moms need the money too.
Just because I stay home with the kids, it doesn't mean I am working just for extra cash. My family is dependent on my income. I bring in the majority of our family's income with MT. Staying home for me is an added benefit since I am saving $1000 a month in childcare, which is money my family really needs rather than paying it out to someone else. Please, don't judge all SAHMs equally. Some of us do value our career choice and work hard to support our families.
Not sure, I have deductions for federal income tax, SS tax, Medicare tax, and state income tax. ???

Does anyone else earn extra money at home doing something along with MT work?
I need some ideas. Fall is coming and I will have some extra time and getting burned out on MT.
I am a very social person and I entered this job at home because it paid more money
than the jobs in the office and I was a single parent. I just learned to balance my life outside the work environment with things that did allow me to use my social skills
I make very good money at home with a small MTSO
Have done both, and still prefer at home, making more money and setting my own hours. (sm)
In-house your required to meet a productivity of nothing less here on the east coast of 135 to 155 lines per hour, not to mention the QA's done weekly!! Yes, weekly, random 10 reports per MT!! I never had a problem with the QA's always between 99.6% and 99.8%. But, you work straight, no talking, in your little box (I call it). Yes, the benefits are a perk, but not that much and I worked 2nd shift always, so it was 18% of my base wage. I am still making more at home productivity wise and take a break when I want to. But, like you said circumstances change. Good luck!!
Sorry, don't post here often and not familiar. I was saying I make great money and stay at home w
Where do folks get these odd ideas?
POLL: Home School vs. Charter School vs. Public School vs. Priv ate School...
Pros and cons of each too. I have two little ones that will be starting school soon and I would like opinions on all. Thanks in advance! :)

"Good" reality TV?
Sounds like an oxymoron to me. There are many things I'd rather do than watch boring TV.
"good" days is right sm
At least we had our fingers on the pulse, albeit full of carbon paper. At least we were face to face with our employers or clients. Today who knows where our work is going and who is "editing" it. I have responses from companies such as "received your test results and you will "here" from us. Felt like e-mailing it back to her supervisor, but she WAS the supervisor! Gimme hands-on, face-to-face, we were tired and poor but we knew who we were dealing with!
And once you have a "good" sample,
SAVE A COPY for yourself in your own samples file.
weekly pay
I bring home right at 1000 a week, but that's a FT job, a 20 hour per week PT job, and a 15 hour per week PT job. My FT job just basically pays for my insurance costs.
once weekly sm
Take it, I did this for years and the once weekly is now hard to find, they want it back on the Net in 45 minutes sometimes. Why not work for yourself instead of some big wheel who make a profit on your sweat equity? BYOB - Be Your Own Boss!
Oh, and $10 an hour is considered a "good" wage here.
Not...
Tired of SS, any "good" places to work
I know there are many messages on the subject, but am getting tired of putting up with SS bull and would like to know of for.
I will have 1 year of experience in March. I'm tired of my line counts never adding up and the differences in the way QA corrects things so I never know which way I'm supposed to do things. It never fails that I can be making 100% on most everything I do, but when it comes audit time they can find things that bring my audit score to 1 or 2 percentage points below the required 98%.
If there is a company out there that does not require weekends I would love to know as I don't have anybody to watch my 4 and 5 year olds every other weekend.
I'm sorry, I know this is not a grammatically correct message as I am very upset and just want out. The only problem is that I have nowhere to go once I do get out so I need a new job first.
Thank you in advance for all of your help.
Tired of SS, any "good" places to work
SS = SoftScript - The main company anyone wants to "RUN AS FAST AS YOU CAN FROM" .... No kidding on this one - been there, done that!
As far as another position have you tried searching on Monster.com or going to any of the Transcription Services web sites? I believe most services now request you work one weekend day; however, it never hurts to explain your situation and one never knows they may make "special arrangements" with you. Never be afraid to ask!
Happy Hunting,
I would just expect a "Good job and we appreciate all the hard work you did for us over the

What makes a company "good" to work for?
In reading some posts below, I came across one that peaked my curiosity. She stated that she has not seen anybody post the name of a high-paying or good company to work for, so this made me think. I am an IC and have a job but am afraid of losing it as I just lost one account. So my question is I am completely new to the "big company" scene. If people are unwilling to divulge who they like working for (for whatever reason), how does one go about researching on what will be worth it or not?
Just curious
Any other companies pay weekly besides EFD?/nm
nm
True. That is about my weekly pay.

Sorry, I was making around $250-$300 weekly

Thanks!
need help fast! Is 8 per 65 character line a "good' rate for an
MT with 10 years of exp? Was offered a position yesterday with a company and right now I make 9.25 - I know I will be losing, but right now I am on DQS and am so sloooowww.. What would you do? Not take it/ Tell them it's just too low? What?!
Sense of humor, tells you "good job!" on the hard ones... nm
NEMT pays weekly. nm
Oh, I totally agree, but go up to the "Good Morning" post. I'd rather have your input.

Walmart is a weekly MUST and of course we're waiting for

Do you have a weekly ads pub that you could put it in under Business Opportunities, or in your local
s
Don't forget the "good Mayor" who did not follow standard emergency procedures
But he sure is quick to throw blame on everyone else.
As stated below, I agree. Overall weekly average is approx. 600 lph sm
Now, granted there are days I can do over 1200 lines an hour, but overall within the week you have those dictations that take a little more time.
I have made more money on this platform than any other. Absolutely love it!
