Anyone considering Windows Vista?
I'm just now beginning research, anyone have any opinions yet?
windows vista
I have seen a lot about Vista not working with several programs, etc. Has anyone found a fix for this, or is it better to just stay with XP and pray it does not crash. I think I may use the "contact us" on the windows site to let them know our problem, I mean we are a major user of their product. What are our alternatives? Any opinions?
Windows Vista
I need to get a new computer, having decided I need one dedicated solely to work, without my 13-year-old's sites and fun and games. But I'm wondering how the new thing, Windows Vista, is going to affect different programs and platforms. All the job ads I see where you use your own computer specify Windows XP. And I don't really want a buggy new system. Amybody facing this?
Has anybody tried the new Windows Vista...sm
If so does it work well with the voice file/foot pedals we use for transcription.
Thanks
Windows Vista
Are there any companies that have systems compatible with Windows Vista?

Windows Vista
Does the new Basic Windows Vista come with any type of word processing program or do you have to buy that separately? Thanks.
Windows Vista
Has anyone used Windows vista with Extext?
I have Windows Vista
I think that's why it won't play on Express Scribe. My tech converted a dss file to a mp3 file and then it played...??
Thanks a lot for the help! I'll try!
Windows VISTA
How do you find working with Windows Vista? Bytescribe tells me that I can use it with Vista, but I've been told otherwise by other MTs. It's complicating the purchase of a new computer!! I'd like any input I can get.
If you buy it brand new it will come with Windows Vista
Better make sure all your programs are compatible.
You can go to Best Buy and get one of their e-machines (Best Buy brand). They will custom-build it for you and it won't cost as much as "name brands." I used one of theirs for quite a while and I was very satisfied with it.
You might even be able to get them to load XP on it if you have the full version (or you could buy a copy). I've heard Vista is still pretty glitchy. I plan to wait at least another year or more before I get Vista, to give them a chance to work out some of the problems.
Good luck!
Windows Vista and DocQscribe.
I am thinking about getting a laptop for travel purposes. Can anyone tell me if Windows Vista is compatible with DocQscribe? Appreciate any input.
Can I install Windows XP on PC with Vista??
Using the old backup disks from my crashed computer?
I need to get this new laptop able to function so I can get a PT job and all seem to want XP...
Shortand for Windows program is slow
with the auto text feature, that is when it is putting in the words, it takes longer than it should. I'm sure there is a setting but can't remember what it is. Any suggestions to speed it up? TIA (sorry if this gets sent twice, trying to validate email, etc.)
If you can find a Dell without Windows Vista, buy it.
A lot of MT companies use older software that is not compatible with Vista. So for me, if I were considering buying a new computer, that would be a major consideration.
Other than that, if you are planning on using it primarily for transcription and other home uses (no high-tech graphic video games, for example), just get the biggest "bang for your buck". The fastest processor, the most RAM, the biggest hard drive in your price range.
I would definitely recommend a flat screen monitor. My eyes don't get nearly as tired with my flat screen as they did with my regular monitor.
Windows Vista and foot pedal
My mother just bought a computer with Vista on it. We haven't been able to successfully get the serial wav pedal hooked up because Vista doesn't have a current driver for a game port.
I wanted to find out if anyone has had success with Vista using a USB wav pedal using ExpressScribe.
Thanks
Instant Text software and Windows Vista
I purchased Instant text software about 6 months ago. I have a new computer now with Windows Vista and while the software worked properly on Windows XP, in order to install the software on Vista I was told by the company turn off my user account control and if I do that my software platform I-Type will not let me in to link the program to it. Anyone have a clue? Any info would be greatly appreciated. Thanks everyone!
Oops..sorry your right. I forgot that. I specifically ordered my Windows XP as Vista is compatible w
Just about every computer has Vista now but I went through Dell and found the computer I wanted with Windows XP and then went into ebay and got it $400 cheaper than what Dell was going to charge..The one downfall, it didnt have Office Word etc.. installed so I had to buy that but I still came out ahead.
MTStars FlashType works in any Windows environment including Vista.
see link below
I got mine on Ebay because I needed Windows XP on it and NOT Vista. They wanted to charge me almost
it with Windows XP. So I saved money and did Ebay.
Slow Computer
I too have an older computer. I run a lot of scans after I am done working. While you surf around looking for information, you pick up spyware. That will slow your computer down. There are a lot of good programs out there that you can download from the intranet. Some of them are free. I run 2 different Spyware programs as one might miss what the other will catch. AVG is free and works good. I also use Trend Micro PC-cillin.
Hope this helps.
Slow Computer
I use AVG as well as Clean Up! a (free)little program that declutters your computer - Google it. Good luck!
I tried to fix my slow computer myself (sm)
by downloading PC Doctor, and now nothing works, so I can't work.
Arrrgh!
Computer so slow could it be? sm
I do not have that much on my hard drive, yet McAfee keeps interrupting me to renew my subscription as it has expired. I can't believe how slow things are, I just keep telling them to remind me in 15 days. Could it be?? I am safe with other programs, don't really need them. Please advise. I am not writing from that computer as it is soooo slow yet newer!
You can always have the Vista taken off a new computer,
buy XP and have it loaded on.
My new computer came with Vista too, but....
When my hard drive crashed earlier this year, we HAD to get a new computer. Of course it came with Vista. So what my commputer guy did was somehow partition (?) my hard drive and now I have both Vista and XP Pro. Eventually XP is not going to be supported any more and then for me, Vista will be a free upgrade as I already have it on my machine. My tech guy rocks!!
That might be something to consider.
Go to the "My Computer" icon or Windows Explorer (sm)
And click on the C: drive. Should be a folder named InstText. Inside that is a Glossary folder. Either copy the whole folder or go inside and copy the glossaries you want, then copy to your flash drive. Then install Instant Text to the new computer, attach the flash drive and copy the glossary files to C:/InstText on the new computer.
Soooooo slow computer
I have the XL Dell and recently had more memory put on hoping to increase the speed. I also did the defraging procedure and still seems like doing escription and working in word it is slower than me. I type and the letters are not coming out as fast as they were say 5 months ago. Does anyone have any idea what could be causing this? I had thought about getting another computer (just don’t want to pay huge $$$$ on one) but also have no idea about a good system to buy. My computer is about 4-5 years old. Thanks.
Slow computer, told need more RAM
My computer now has been really slow lately and checked and found to have 768 MB, told I need to increase to at least 1.5 or 2 gb which my computer can handle. My question is this, since it is gonna cost me approximately $140 or so, is this worth it, will I be able to tell the difference in the speed? Right now I am sitting waiting for some words to appear on the screen, very frustrating. Thanks!
computer running slow (sm)
I have PC Tools Spyware Doctor, don't run continuously because it slow computer down, turn it on at night to scan every night. Today I ran Spybot, which I thought was a free version, it found over 500 infections, of course, it wanted me to buy the paid version. Why isn't PC Tools Spyware Doctor picking these up? I also run AVG free version continuously. Any input appreciated.
Can someone tell me how to have Vista and XP on same desktop computer?
Someone said a post was on this board, but I have not found it yet. What does this process entail, please. I don't want to get rid of Vista, but have both XP and Vista running on the same computer. TIA
When ExText is really slow is this a problem with them or my computer? sm
For 2 days ExText has been beyond slow (taking 5 minutes to upload a 2 minute job). Is this a problem with them or my computer?
ExpressScribe-Computer running slow
My ExpressScribe is making my computer run really really slow and in the task manager it is at 100%. When I close it, my computer works fine? How do I fix this? Thanks
You're trying to download XP onto a computer that already has Vista?
The only way I know of that you can do that is to reformat your hard drive, then install XP Pro. You have to have the full version of XP Pro to do that, not the upgrade.
Windows generally doesn't let you go "backwards" with an OS that is already installed without reformatting. And if it's an OEM system (if you bought it with Vista already installed), I would advise taking it to a computer shop and having them do it. You will save yourself a LOT of frustration.
Just My Humble - but Informed - Opinion.
computer wizard question-vista
I have a laptop with vista that I purchased a few months back. Some companies are telling me its not compatable with their programs yet. Do you think I should try it first instead of downgrading to XP? Does it harm the computer if it does not work? I know of some people being told it will not work and then in the end vista was working okay with a company's platform. I know docuscribe works with it okay even though tech will tell you it doesn't. TIA
Looking for computer tech guru to take Vista to XP...sm
I need to move a Vista computer to XP Home. Bought the Vista system, but is not compatible with a bunch of stuff. Have a copy of XP Home that will work. Anybody that can help with that? TIA
my son is a computer grad and told me not to get vista
on my new lap top. i ordered direct from Toshiba with windows XP.
don't send them thru ES -- find the actual file thru Windows Explorer on your computer. nm

Installing 2 AV wouldn't this slow down the computer significantly?..sm
If I will ever be dissatisfied with McAfee, I would switch to Norton, but never to a free AV.
Slow day for me. Typed two reports in two hours. Anyone else having unusually slow day?

Are you working in DOS or Windows? In Windows, it's Kilobytes.

Is it their computer? Why are they installing a firewall and autocorrect on your computer? That sm
is usually the responsibility of the transcriptionist, especially if an IC or SE. Which company?
Question about transfering computer into to another computer.. sm
I have a dumb question - Just bought a new computer and someone told me to get a flash drive to transfer all my info. But I'm assuming that ExText that I work off of and Escription will have to be downloaded again by the tech people onto my new computer. I can tranfer these can I?
Thanks
How does one find out the computer specs on my computer?
I should know this, but I just don't remember how to do this. I am hoping I have enough RAM, or whatever, to load work platform on my own computer and begin working on it, rather than paying *rent* on the company-furnished computer. Thanks so much.
A computer is a computer, whether it be laptop or desktop.
I have both and use both and I bought both of mine...most companies do not provide computers...
Fax in Windows XP
Hello,
There is a place in XP where you can send a fax, go to Start, All Programs, Accessories, Communications, Fax, there is a section there that says "Send a Fax" and it walks you through.
Hope this helps!!
WP 5.1 or WP for Windows
if you are using windows xp..sm
up on the toolbar, there is an icon that shows the *zoom*. if you want to change the document to 100 percent, click on the icon, choose 100 percent, and save the document that way. if you want to use a template that is not at 100 percent..open the template, change the zoom to 100 percent, click to close and it will ask if you want to save changes. say yes. next time you open the template, it will be at 100 percent. hope this helps.
Do you have Windows XP?
What happens when you click on "My Documents"? Does it say that it is not accessible?
You might try creating a new folder to save your documents in. Try creating it directly on the C drive, so you bypass Documents and Settings.
Otherwise...I don't know what to suggest. Good luck! Let us know if you find out what went wrong.
If you have Windows XP, there is....(sm)
Remote Desktop already in your system, you just have to access it. See link below. I've never used this myself, but I would imagine your new MTSO would have to give you more info, for you to log onto your server, ISP, or other. I'm not a real technie person, so can't really help further. Hopefully someone else will have more hands on experience for you.
(Personally, don't understand why the MTSO would not give you all the information you need to be able to work for them, and provide technical support, but that's just me, I guess....)
Good luck!

No, I use Windows XP.
It's really weird. It was the same expresss scribe I had last year. It worked fine. Now it doesn't work. I did uninstall it then download the newer version. So, I have been online looking for an older version. No luck yet, however.
But thanks for trying to help. I really appreciate everyone for trying to help me out with this.:)
do you do windows?
