You are doing it right...I admire those..
who realize that being an adult means acting responsibly. Do we blow money sometimes, you bet...but we know how much we can spend and never dip into our long term savings just because we want something. Between us we have 4 grown kids, but have never had any living at home with us However, my DH paid his child support obligation in full to the tune of $1000 a month and still we had savings, vacations, etc. Yes, I know things can change in an instant, that's why we are not in debt and have savings, just in case.

I did something along those lines back in 1992. I left a high-paying job in NYC and moved to a VERY rural area of the country. Jobs I've found since then can't compare to what I used to make, but I don't have the hassles I used to have either. My husband and I scraped and scrounged for a few years but ended up paying everything (except our mortgage) off. We do nothing on credit, and if we want something, we either pay cash for it or we don't buy it. The bills are much more manageable now, and life is better--even though I still have a young child at home.

I suggest that you spend some time browsing this website. Check the Main and Company boards, going back a few pages. That will give you an idea of how things work. It is intimidating at first, but you'll learn to sift for the grain.
The average MT job WITH EXPERIENCE pays 8 cents per line. Some make 9-11 cents, but not too many. I think it would be a miracle for a newbie to get 9, but I might be wrong. I have seen some working for 6, the lucky ones for 7.
Check some back pages on this board before you do too much, to get a feel for what's available, what kind of work you might be interested in, which companies will hire new (fresh out of school) MTs. A lot of companies require 2 years working experience.
Good luck to you. Don't get discouraged if it takes awhile; it's not easy to break in.

I admire your ability to forgive and hopefully this will all blow over - however, that being said,
please make sure that Animal Control did not list this as an "incident" so that it may not be used against your dog in the future, even if no charges were filed. A lot of states have a strict "no bite or 3 bite" policy and would not want this to count against your dog later in life. My brother-in-law's dog bit a child when it got tangled up in her bicycle wheels (granted she should not have been that close to the child in the first place), so we've learned to be very careful about our animals.

I really admire people that can make that kind of money
but knowing the hours she must work, and the days she must put in (probably all week plus the weekend), that's just not for me. Money isn't everything and I'd rather make my $40,000 and have my weekends free and work my 8 hours, five days a week and be done. Again, this is just me. Now if I could make that money working normal hours, I'd be happy. (I can dream can't I?)

i have been through some rough times lately and had to apply for some help. there are signs, big signs, all over our offices saying "YOU DON'T HAVE TO BE LEGAL TO GET HELP". so we and our government do give them our benefits whether they are legal here or not. now that is messed up. i am helping to support them so they can take away my jobs and i can't even support my kids and yes i get benefits, wow $75 a month in food stamps which lasts not even a week in a household of 6. don't get me wrong, i am thankful for any help at the moment, but i get penalized for trying to work my tail off and still can't survive.
there was recently an article in our local newspaper where one of our local school districts tried to charge $1000 a year for each illegal student enrolled. it was bulked and the illegals got a lawyer to sue for discrimination. the school district merely stated that they had to HIRE extra teachers that could speak the foreign language just to teach these children and were trying to offset some of the expenses. ridicilous!! so again our taxpayers money is paying to educate illegals as well.

listen to the docs. I, personally, have not had cancer but after dealing with my 5-y/o Wilm's tumor (kidney cancer) this year, our family has been but through the wringer. Jen handled her chemo great, lost her hair with 2 treatments to go (had 14). Kids are great about that though, got a little self-conscious but after a few minutes in a new place would forget she had no hair. I got her a couple hats for the sun and for her to feel better too. Painted her head one day, had fun with it. She had good days and bad of course, but for the most part handled it all very well. Just had a clean ultrasound and chest x-ray today, yeah! She looks like a little boy now, with dirty blond hair (was an incredible shade of red before), with now the roots growing a new color, a strawberry blond/red, really pretty. So if you do lose your hair it may grow in different (probably will). Jen's was very fine before, now it is a lot thicker, still straight as a board though as it was. You may lose some weight too, but after chemo is done you will regain it once you get your appetite back. Best wishes to you and feel free to email !

She's doing an excellent job and just wishes the docs would WAKE UP and start doing the same. Docs ARE incompetent for the most part, and that's sad. But you go ahead and think they walk on water, honey. When they amputate the wrong leg during your operation, you'll be the first to scream, LAWSUIT!!!!
How is this different from the rest of us?
I haven't said this before, but I've been thinking it. So the suits only think about the bottom line and the doctors don't care whose jobs go overseas as long as it isn't theirs. How are we any different? How many of us cared that textile/garment workers jobs went overseas? Until the lead paint scare, how many of us cared that toy making jobs were going overseas? Do we stop buying the latest electronic gadgets, not to mention computers, because they are virtually all made overseas now? For the most part, we didn't worry about those jobs, so why would anyone care about ours? Wal-Mart, K-Mart and the other low-price retailers push their suppliers for ever cheaper products, and plants overseas are the best suppliers. Have we stopped shopping there, or is price all we care about, too?

I also would like to know if anyone has an idea for a foot rest. I also have swollen feet at the end of the day. I looked at my daughter-in-law's foot stool for breast feeding and thought it might work since it is slanted. Off to Google this and see what I can find.

I know one MTSO who was going to put on an ad and has backed off with what has been going on with the ownership of the board. I think it's just like the number of postings being down - people are on here but are hesitating because they're not sure if everything is okay. I think if you give it a little more time you'll see more and more ads come back on as people relax about the board again.

Are you able to rest your arms?
Maybe arm rests? They helped me for a while until I started getting carpal tunnel symptoms from not having my hands properly positioned (due to resting my elbows on my arm rests). Needless to say, got rid of the arm rests and after a while, the pain just went away (both in wrists/hands and shoulders/back). However, I do have quite severe knots if you ever feel my shoulders :)

So obviously you were never a newbie? You came out of MT school the "perfect" MT. I have nearly 3 years experience and there are still things I look up. One thing about MT work is that is it forever changing. Not to mention the QA that faults me for things that are considered correct according to the Book Of Style. Just because an MT is new does not imply that she cannot do the job.

You keep telling us how awful MTs are, so QUIT and you won't have to deal with it anymore. I would hate to have you as my QA person. I think we all have heard enough about how PERFECT YOU ARE and how worthless MTs are.

had been here at that particular time. I was transcribing a physician who changes almost every other word, sentence, saying oh don’t put that in, change to thus and so and then says a sentence and then says delete that. I could pull my hair out when I even see his name coming in. I remember the first time I ever listened to a physician and like the person you mentioned above, knew he was speaking English and I barely knew the first word he was saying. I guess most think we sit at home just "typing" a bit and then eating chocolate chip cookies the rest of the time.
Size of foot rest - sm
I got a large one - 17 x 20 - because I have two foot pedals to use (different platforms) and they both fit on it side by side. I can adjust it to slope up from the floor in front to about 3-4 inches (or more if I want) upwards. The top of the foot rest has a rubberized mat to keep the foot pedals in place, and the base of the foot rest is heavy to it doesn't move. The brand is Fellows, and I paid about $49.00 for it...and I think well worth it so far. If you Google foot rests, and look on Shopzilla, you'll find lots of them - different sizes and prices and styles. Hope this helps.
