Wow, SnowBunny, you hit the nail on the head. It blows my mind how people think they can
just take a course and jump right in and expect to make a living in this industry at home. Only the small percentage is able to do that.

my glass storm door, at my front door. Just happened to see it happen, and scared me to death. They are such big ugly, rat on steroid looking creatures! Now, I've convinced myself that it's rabid and going to get me if I step outside. News last night said they had 4 dogs found with rabies in a city about 15-20 miles from us, so...?? I just think it is so strange that it jumped on my door. Yuck!

When I sit in my chair, my feet don't even touch the ground, because I need my chair height to be such that I am not looking up at the screen.
I have big platform sandals that I use. They are great. One on each foot. You can move your feet around, but they are nice and high from the ground, like a movable foot stool.

Here's the dealio... MTs are expected to be able to hit the ground running.
We work from home. There is no training curve. That's just the way it is in the MT industry. If you want to work from home, you have to know what you're doing. If it takes you longer than three days to get off full QA, then you belong in an office somewhere getting training from a mentor who has the time and money to train you. Working from home is all about the bottom line -- the MTs and the MTSOs. This is career field you've chosen, so get with the program. Sharpen your skills and quit expecting someone to hold your hand.

I need a ground line if cable goes out so does your phone and if you contact MCI they will give you
with long distance costing 07. cents a minute if you have to. Just use your long distance after 9 pm using ur cell which is free and on weekends. This MCI plan is 26. & taxes about 28. a month. This way MCI gives u the ability to call long distance during the week if you absolutely have to but for .07 cents a minute. Better to have a phone than no phone. Just a thought!

Where are you at on the Big Island?
We origially were thinking of moving to the Hilo area, but since my fiance started searching for jobs (he's in construction), he has noticed most of the jobs are in Kailua-Kona. We originally wanted to stay away from the tourist spots (lived in Waikiki before and hated it) and heard Hilo was a more family friendly place. So at the moment we are kind of torn where we want to move. We are going to just live in sublets or temporary housing until we figure out where we want to end up permanently depending on where he gets a job and also where we can still get high-speed internet for mine. Care to share what area you are living in and how you like it?

I have my little jaunt there (with my champagne and caviar), I will be sure to swing by Hawaii and say hello and tootles!! ROFL
Treasure Island
My husband and I were married in Las Vegas last October. We stayed at Treasure Island in a honeymoon suite for around 140.00 per night. This price was Sunday thru Wednesday and then the price is higher for Thursday through Saturday. It was a really, really nice hotel. Our suite had a hot tub and his and her bathrooms. Treasure Island also has some nice restaurants to eat at as well. We were married at Viva Las Vegas, which is right on the strip. Everyone there was very nice and we had a wonderful time. We went out by ourselves so it is nice that Viva Las Vegas has a live web cam so friends and family back home can see you getting married. Getting married at a wedding chapel that is not connected with a hotel is a lot cheaper. I think our wedding package was around 400.00 and that included everything including our proofs. We had a limo that picked us up from our hotel, took us to get married and then brought us back. This was a wonderful experience that neither of us will ever forget. I would also suggest eating at Emeril's Delmonico Steakhouse as well as Hard Rock Cafe. Any other info you would like I would be happy to share. Conratulations and good luck!!!

I was just in Aruba -very nice island
Aruba is just like any other tourist destination where as long as you stay in the tourist areas, do not wonder off into the downtown areas at night and practice basic street-smarts, then there is no need for alarm and it is just as safe as any other place. I went to Aruba last month and we had a nice stay but I also went there years ago when I was about 16 w/my friend and her family. Of course we drank our little hearts out but we stayed in the hotel area and never wandered off. I will admit that we were harrassed by locals a bit (and I think it was because we were so young) but we ignored them and ALWAYS stayed together- we used our street smarts!!
It sounds as tho this young girl did not have as much street smarts as you or I. I would never leave with guys I just met by myself even if I were at a bar in my hometown area, nevermind in another country! It is common sense but unfortunately this young girl didn't know any better, or for whatever reason maybe she thought that she was safe with these boys and she probably thought they were just regular kids just like her & her friends. It is very sad that she possibly had to pay the ultimate price for what she thought was just an innocent mistake.
We as parents try to protect our children from so much, but at the same time, I think sometimes we are so focused on keeping the evil of the world out, that we possibly make our children more vulnerable.

You know, I felt exactly like I had been "thrown off the island"
I never watch "Survivor" or any other reality TV show but I have heard enough about it to know how it works. It saddens me that our young people are growing up with that kind of example - plotting behind other people's backs, ganging up on one member of the "team", always being out for number one.
Maybe "Leave It To Beaver" and "The Andy Griffith Show" were unrealistic, but at least they had good role models and discussed issues such as being kind to others, being truthful, and being a good person.
I know there are good people in the world - I just wish there were more of them.

St. Simons versus Jekyl Island
Jekyl Island is 7-8 miles south US 17 of St. Simons. They offer beautiful beaches, hotels, bike trails, golf, camping, and fishing. It is a more secluded vacation place. As you already know St. Simons has great restaurants, boutique shopping, etc. Just depends on what you are looking for in a vacation spot. I live in Brunswick. Hope this helps.

I was merely trying to point out that if one comes to rally the troops on such a topic, they need to know what they talking about. Quite honestly, this is a huge part of the reason MT is where it is today. We have our own US MTs who know nothing beyond typing their report and tallying their line count. Kudos to you for looking beyond and health care management. Unfortunatley, you may find yourself on the other side of the ball though, so be prepared. As part of the healthcare management team, you'll be expected to tow the line as far as cost cutting and hospitals are doing it every day. It's not the MT companies choosing to offshore, but rather the larger hospitals are demanding it to cut costs. Look around - hospitals are shutting their doors because they're out of money.

On the Long Island Railroad, traveling to Greenwich Village for the day and he traveling to a concert in Queens, NY. The instant I looked at his face and he talked to me and sat across from me on the train, I knew we would make history together, I knew something was gonna happen between us. He got off the train, I continued on to Greenwich Village, NYC..didnt get his number, nor he mine. Four months later I was driving into my apartment parking lot and he was driving behind me, said he recognized me from my sunglasses as I looked in the rear view mirror. if you live among trashy people, low income people, people w/o goals or direction,
content to just get by, you by default become a part of a group. "people" have decided to group trailer people as trash. that is because there are enough people in that group to earn the title and even if you aren't trash, you are categorized by others. did i think i was trash in lower class neighborhood surrounded by people who drank and fought all weekend? no but i knew i wasn't staying and did not try to pretend that all the fools in the neighborhood were just nice folks who ended up where they were because high horse snobs deemed their neighborhood low class. people for the most part live exactly where they belong because they don't want to educate themselves, they don't mind "trash" around them and they don't want to be bothered trying just a bit hard to extract themselves from that world. they justify everything to themselves i guess saying everyone who doesn't like their lifestyle is a snob and the comedians (Jeff Foxworthy/Chris Rock, etc) who make fun of them are just ill-informed.
As for me, I fought hard to get out and don't even want to look back. It amazes me people stay for generations.
Which ones pull in the green?
Which ones are you gals/guys transcribing that you are able to do 200-300/hour? I have condensed it down to ops and maybe radiology. What are the most awesome expansion accounts in your opinion-copy and paste if you will!!
Is there anybody transcribing this amount of lines on acute or multi specialty? Specialty, a single specialty, I could believe. Ops I can believe. Haven't done rad so don't know. What are the best "COPY AND PASTE" situations you know of?

I would use Pull Ups in his case, to take away...
the notion that he needs "diapers" since he is trained during the day and you don't want him to feel like he's a baby. My DD used Pull Ups, then those big Pull Ups that are just white and made for bedwetters, and when she grew out of those we used DDAVP spray, which worked the first night.

So you go into the queue and grab what is at the top at that time. So if you do not feel like working one day or that morning you don't have to pull from the queue?

mess, aren't you? I do voice also and keep trying to tell people MTers are not ready to be replaced with this because I, like you, see this all too much.
You can pull up like you are lifting a
weight and also pull outward like you are working on shoulder muscles and pecs (typical gym exercise). Do about 8 reps (or more)of each every hour. Exercising these muscles is cumulative but the important thing is to be consistent, i.e. every day. It's so easy to forget for a couple of days and then the pain returns. Being MTs we need to be mindful of our bodies. Our minds are always getting a workout but our bodies seem to suffer. We need to be warriors of mind and body to be balanced and then our performance and productivity improves also.
Sometimes you can pull them up in the expander but not print from there.

I am currently working on a 20 minute dictation with an ESL who talks like a 3-year-old. I can't even figure out where she might be from. Words like....tweatment, twying, reawy, downwite, etc. Plus, there is about a 2 second pause between every word!!!!!
The real kicker is that she is dictating this for another doc who I know for a fact speaks perfect English.

Pull your spf files off the CD onto the desktop. sm
Now go to My Computer, look at Programs, open the ShortHand folder, open the smaller SH8 folder. Now, drag your spf files into that. Close all of that.
Now open the shorthand program like you are going to use it. Go to File at the top, open, and you will see your spf files. open the one you want to use, or any. each time you open one, there will be tab at the bottom to choose which one you want to use.
I agree . . . if you can pull that job home,
that would be your best bet.
