Problem "hearing"

I am a senior citizen and have been a Transcriptionist for more than 40 years. I have worked remotely for the past 10 years. Over the last 6 months or so, I notice I am not "hearing" words as quickly as I used to and even when I re-listen over and over, I still can't figure out what they are saying. The words may not even be medical words and that is what bothers me. I use GearPlayer4 and have Sound Blaster 24-bit External sound card (which is supposed to be the best). Anyway, I was wondering if anyone has had this problem and what they did to make it go away! Thanks for your input.
