I don't recall
a step between MRC and TL, but then I may be blocking the whole unpleasant next eight years. It just got worse and worse and the final straw was Philips and being forced to become an employee, with a simply horrid manager.
When I started with MRC I worked in the office, which was about 4 miles 1-way from home and I either biked or walked. I was pretty fit that couple of years. TL moved the operation to swankier offices several miles farther away and across a major highway, thus putting an end to my bicycling. I tried to work in the TL office, but they were just way too starchy and corporate for most of us MC people (no denim, no tennis shoes, no talking, blah, bhal, blah). I remember a welcoming speech given by their office manager to all us boat people they had just acquired. She spoke with her hands so much (a sort of Babs Streisand affectation - two-inch acrylic nails and all) that I could hardly keep from laughing. Shortly after that I went home to work.
I do miss knowing the people I work with and for. TL had an online company bulletin board but it was pointed out that this was for chat, but for official use only. MQ had that horrible e-mail system where you had to check daily for bulletins. Trouble was, I would have to spend 20 minutes a day sorting through all their self-promotional garbage to get to anything that actually pertained to me.
What a walk down memory lane!
I don't recall asking for advice (more)
and I don't really need a lecture from you about my finances. You assumptions about my situation could not be farther from the truth.
I'm not going to defend myself or make corrections to your incorrect assumptions. You seem to be very happy on your pedestal and God forbid anyone should choose to do things in a way that displeases you. I think it's pretty funny that you would get "burned up" by something that an anonymous person posted on the Internet.
I'm glad for you that you have nothing but luck going for you. Maybe you'll get to buy my car when I'm done with it!
There is one on MTChat, but I don't recall her name. nm

Diamond Pet Food Recall sm
check out their website if you use this brand. dog and cat food recalled. Dozens of dogs have died, others ill.
I'm confused....I don't recall ever subscribing to
anything. Do you get emails? You posted your own resume, and you can delete and modify that on your own so I'm guessing it's something different. Why didn't I ever have to sign up for anything?
Cannot recall password for Windows :(
PC crashed so I pulled out the old PC from years ago. But, I cannot recall my password. Can I get around this somehow? I am lost without my puter :(.
Thanks!
As I recall, ONLY after you've been there for a set length of time.

Yes. But per Vera, that's wrong, if I recall correctly. SM
There are apparently about 10 zillion people who think that if you use a slang spelling or term long enough, you legitimize it. Sigh. There's no reason for that to ever be one word until such time it's marketed under that brand name. You can find LOTS of stuff on Google, and if there were 10,000 people who misspelled a term, there would be 10,000 hits on it -- and it would still be misspelled.
I only have single coverage with them. but as I recall from the literature it was about
$500 a month or so, maybe a little less. Give them a call or e-mail and I am sure they will tell you.
If I recall, you should be able to pull up all the supporting documents sm
to review, not just the summary page. I always back it up by doing the old pencil, paper, calculator method just to be sure.
I don't recall saying I 'don't research' blanks.
is exactly what this portion of this thread is about. I never leave a blank until all avenues of finding the answer have been exhausted, which includes leaving a blank and continuing on with the report, as sometimes the answer can be found further down in the same report.
And here's another problem: sometimes the answer to the blank presents itself in the next report, or several reports down the line. By then the 'offending' report with said blank in it has already been sent and cannot be retrieved. If already-type reports could be retrieved and fixed by the original person that typed them a few minutes to an hour later, it would save a tremendous amount of time for all concerned: MTs, QAs, and the doctor waiting for the report that is languishing in a QA backlog.
Federal ID #
If there is a "mother company" that is overall all the smaller companies sometimes the ID could be the same -- I think. My husband drove a truck for Dalles Mavis that was owned by Active Transportation that all has other comanies. All of hs W2 forms, etc. came from Active with their ID number on it though he worked directly for Dallas-Mavis. Even when he moved to Texas and worked there instead of Oregon, his W2's all came from Active.
They won't be saving anything since if you made $5000 from Company B and they deduct it from Company A, they will be paying taxes more taxes from Company B and less from Company A but again, if there is a corporation over all of the companies, it will all be merged in together to pay taxes on the "profit" from the corporation. Just like being married, your husband can over withold and pay for your taxes because you merge your income together. Just hopefully be requesting that they issue you another 1099 that they don't send both into the IRS and so the IRS thinks you made $10,000 and not $5,000.
There is no such federal law! :)
Every employer has the right to answer questions about former employees. Most prefer to not go into too many details. Asking whether or not an employee is eligible for rehire is a very common question.
She has explained it before - lots of expanders if I recall correctly.
I believe it - I to make great line counts in a few hours, but have to work in 2-3 hour periods, take a break, and go back later for 2-3 more hours.
If I sit here all day, I am not productive. It works for me.
If I recall, there used to be a Short Form Schedule C you could file sm
if you grossed less than $2500.
I've always liked Doug, my husband looks similar; I don't recall whom I saw/liked first though

Yes, it should. As I recall, Express Scribe plays .dss files..sm
and that's what Olympus files usually are, but you can double check because some Olympus players also use .WMA files, I believe. Express Scribe plays nearly any file, but it should list on download website what all it will play.
We did this. We went through HUD or some federal program
that loaned us the closing costs and down payment on a second mortgage. It was paid off within five years.
They were federal charges
go to a halfway house first, but I thought surely that the prison could tell me something, if that was the case?! They just said he was out of custody and that's all they could tell me. Thanks for the encouragement...it's appreciated!
You pay taxes to the Federal gov't, among others.
The question should not be about what taxes you pay and who gets the money. How governmental entities distribute the money is for them to worry about, not you. As an IC, you will have deductions available to you that are not available as an employee.
Only YOU can determine if the responsibility of being an IC is for you. There is so much more to IC status than taxes. My suggestion is to read up on what is involved in self-employment by checking out a book on entreprenurship from the library or do some reading on the Web. My guess is that you're not ready for this yet but you can be if you do your homework.
Is there federal money available
It occurred to me that it may be something we mention when writing/calling our government.
I know that when Levi Strauss closed their factory in Roswell, NM, and sent it down to Mexico (thanks, NAFTA), they gave their workers money to retrain in a new profession.
Surely this is something that can be fought for. We know darned well the MTSO's won't take money out of their own pocket to do this, but there was/is a government program called TAA which is supposed to help people who have lost work as a result of imports. I think a case can be made for medical records transcribed overseas as qualifying as "imports".
I found an old document on line at http://www.edd.ca.gov/pdf_pub_ctr/de8714x.pdf which describes that 3 or more workers who have been affected by imports can petition for federal money for assistance and retraining. There's also JTPA/WIA which established one-stop career centers and I believe being laid off because of work being sent offshore (or just laid off, period) would qualify people for this program.
There's also this article, which I included a part of, that is talking about IT workers for Computer Sciences Corp (my brother happens to work for them and has survived the layoffs) filing suit....
*The department has long held that programmers who've lost jobs to cheaper, foreign workers aren't eligible for the TAA program because their employers, or employer's customers, are not importing a physical good in the same way as, say, steel manufacturers. A number of federal and state lawmakers have introduced bills that would automatically grant eligibility under the act to IT workers and other white collar professionals, but none has become law.
The labor department initially said that although CSC moved production of its Vantage-One insurance software from East Hartford to CSC India, the software was not an imported "article" as defined by the act. In a lawsuit, the workers asked the U.S. Court of International Trade to overturn the department's ruling. In January, trade court judge Nicholas Tsoucalas ordered the department to revisit the case, noting that, "Labor's interpretation of the law, that software code must be embodied on a physical medium to be an article under the Trade Act, is arbitrary and capricious."
In a Federal Register note published April 11, the Labor Department conceded the point and ruled that the four CSC workers would be eligible to apply for TAA assistance. In ruling, the department said it would henceforth look upon software, whether shipped into the U.S. on a disc or transmitted into the country via telecommunications networks, as a physical product.
Software and similar intangible goods that would have been considered articles for the purposes of the Trade Act if embodied in a physical medium will now be considered articles regardless of their method of transfer," the department wrote.*
Something to think about.
Also, I'm pretty sure we've been far OVERestimating how much money offshore people are paid for transcription. Their companies might get 1 cent a line after it goes through 3 or 4 edits, but I'm pretty sure the person typing the report and mangling the English is paid more like 1/5 cent per line, which is still pretty good money for them. My math is based on there being 40 rupees to a dollar, and 1/40 of 8 cents per line is 1/5 cent. There was that article quoted on the company board from Manilla where they were gloating that their workers got $1 to $2 an hour and, if they're required to transcribe 1200 lines a day, that comes to 1/10 cent per line. But that was back in 2005.
Back to the 1/5 cent. So if the report goes through 3 or 4 edits, each getting paid their 1/5, then the Indian company keeps the 2 cents per line which is left over and our dear old MTSO here in the States charges the hospital what...11 cents?..pays our US MT 3 or 4 cents to edit. So, 3 cents/line to the offshore company, 4 cents/line to our US editor, and the MTSO still pockets the 4 cents/line left over? Why do you think we're seeing 7 cents/line more and more often as the going rate of pay?
Well, just some things to think about - I get my best ideas late, late at night!
No specific one that I can recall. Sorry. But I was running Google searches on the person,
and the same company kept popping up "run search online" everywhere! They had several options - $9.95 or $19.95 or a super-duper $49.95 one. I went with the cheapest one, and even that was worth it. Though the $49.95 would surely be tempting....

I don't recall mentioning couches or TV-watching! Net-surfing is okay if one can't sleep, bu
most of the "fun" time I'm talking about is traveling to other countries, mountain biking, surfing, figure skating, skiing, and running, in addition to community events, reading, painting and drawing (some work was published), music, swimming, writing and sewing, just to mention a few.
Thanks for sharing this. If federal guidelines were followed,
the minimum wage earner could not even shop at Walmart---that's really sad! This is just another point that shows that the government has obviously gotten too big for its people, $5.15 is a JOKE. I'm glad some states actually have some sort of caring politicians.
Federal Govt program (sm)
I am going to ask my tax person about this. I am currently working for a company as an IC, but now I'm thinking it should actually be called SE status, since they withhold, what looks like, about 7% of my income for OASDI and medicare. I also worked for MQ as an SE and they took out FICA, so I think I'm okay for now. However, if I switch jobs, I will need to make sure this is taken care.
I don't think FEDERAL varies whereas state...sm
I think states set their own regulations but I do believe that Federal is all one set of rules/regulations. The police might be able to tell you but I think you'd find out so much more via the internet if you know what state he is in. I found someone in jail recently. I put in her name and she is locked up and probably going to get the books slammed at her. Very young nonthinking girl too.
All states and even federales have websites. You can type in INMATE information and then the state and all kinds of links will come up. You can probably this way find his name at some institution and if paroled, call the institution he was paroled from and find out more details if possible.
BEST of luck on this!!! The internet is great for finding even old friends (I found several 30+ years after being in contact).
Question for ICs about SS and federal tax. I am new at this and I am wondering if you can pay
your federal tax and SS more often than quarterly so it doesnt turn out to be so much money. I would pay the State and Local quarterly but would like to pay the fed more often. Anybody do this or just file quarterly.
Can anyone that is an IC tell me when you send in your quarterly Federal and SS is there anywhere
you can check to make sure your money had been credit properly to your account to avoid problems at the end of the year.
HIPAA is a federal law, not State.
I could be wrong but I don't think you need to get the office to sign anything. You just need to be HIPAA compliant on your end. Double check on this though.
gal friday
I think Joe Friday had one on Dragnet (Friday night viewing from the 50's.)
Yep, this Friday I am getting my
check from them. I am a happy girl.
Marie, what type of federal job, is this still medical? nm

Section 8 housing. It's a federal program through HUD.
Google it "Section 8" housing to verify.
I couldn't get it friday either.

Happy Friday!!
I have an endo account, which has a lot of lab terms! It probably would be easier, but my doc has a thick accent (spanish) Its definitely not the easiest, just my opinion! Best of luck, if you go with endocrinology.

have loads of fun on your trips! Nothing better than working from home and being able to travel, so lucky we are!
This is my Friday SCREAM!!!! sm
I have had a terrible week that just keeps on "getting better" over here.
I don't to talk about it, it would take hours. I just wanted to scream. Mercury must be in retrograde, the moon might be full, SOMETHING is out of alignment.
If you want to scream too, DO IT. It won't help much, but it gets it out.
Where I work if it is done on Friday, before 5 pm - sm
then it is due back Saturday within 24-hours of it being dictated, i.e. 3pm Friday is due back by 3pm Saturday. If it is dictated after 5 then it is due back by Monday 8am. In theory Sunday work is not due back until Tuesday 8am but when it does happen (which is rare) I try to get it in on Monday or my whole schedule gets messed up.
That's it! Thank you so much Kim! Happy Friday! NM
x
I do this on both Thursday and Friday . . .
Do you do this every night or just on Fridays? If it's just on Fridays, probably not (nor would I probably even be aware of it).
Thursdays as well, since the work that comes in after 5 isn't due until Monday morning.
Hospitals have a rhythm. Does your way of ensuring turnaround mean that almost every job you have is over 10 minutes, leaving all the 1 and 2 minute 'nuisance' reports in the queue? Do all the ops remain in the queue (I'm a fan of the work type, but not everybody is)? I'm reaching annoyance stage.
I get both long and shorter jobs.
Again with the rhythms- Are there particularly egregious dictators that you get to essentially ignore because they're morning birds while Dr. Chatty Easylines and Dr. Joe Makinbigbucks routinely dictate 1500 lines, which for them entails a total of 4 hours of typing combined) at about 7:00 each evening. Yeh, now I'm PO'd.
All the dictators on this particular account have their jobs come in at various times. I get the good, the bad and the ugly . . . just like everybody else.
Are you then one of those people that wil come on here and gloat about how on average you type 400-500 lines/hour and make roughly $25/hour, can't understand why all transcriptionists can't do it, and suggest we tinker and modify our expansion program so we can be as good as you? Be thankful the internet is anonymous because otherwise I'd know if you worked for my company and I would be kicking up a fuss like you wouldn't believe.
I make good money, but I don't come on here and "gloat." I've been with my company for many years. They are happy with the work I do. Also, I work every weekend day to do those jobs I take. The other MTs at my company do not want to work weekends. I also work nights AND during the day. I have a flexible schedule, but I work a lot because I want to make a lot.
I agree with "Snow Bunny" Federal govt. sm
Everyone new that New Orleans was pooooooooooooooooooooor
With state and Federal, you 40% of your earnings GO, bottom line.
I don't know what's up for debate, it's fact.
Housing prices have gone up 40% in the past year alone in California.
The federal gov't is urging paperless MR to save costs.

you're right, it's federal but diff for each state...see link...sm
