Sorry for your problem, sounds like the office manager is gloating over this - it's their problem, not yours. Charge them for the lines find out how computer literate the staff is. Been an MT 20+ years, been an MTSO, got tired of pounding the pavement and putting up with MTs who didn't show up or had such poor quality. Sold the company. Went to work for another company. Moved into management. Get along great with those reporting to me - I've been in their shoes and work alongside them to support them as much as possible.

Pardon me, and not to sound like an old crank...
but I think the current spectacles for preschool graduations, kindergarten graduation, 6th grade graduation, or even 8th grade graduations have just gotten out of hand. Formal dress for a 5-year-old finishing kindergarten? We've just gotten carried away making huge productions for children out of normal everyday stuff. No wonder they act the way they do sometimes. Some kids expect fireworks for every move they make in this life. I'm not that old and we didn't do jack diddly squat for any of the above occasions... Even 8th grade, it was just "have a nice summer and see you next year." I just personally think we should save the big hooplas for something that is actually a culmination of a lot of persistent work. High school, college, etc. But kindergarten?

I was using "anon" but not anymore since someone else has posted a nasty remark here. Why the nasty replies on here? I agree, this is supposed to be the helping profession. I think Cobra is only a bridge between jobs to help you with bennies but is only temporary, not sure of time, but this is the law and cannot be changed. I had to have private insurance just for myself as husband had his own on retirement but I was too young. I had to buy from a private Blue Cross through a group plan through the Chamber of Commerce in my area and so expensive. Big $$$ and no other way. I wish you the best, there is no real solution except to get into a job that offers bennies but sometimes you make more on your own and buying your own ins. Again, sorry some others are so mean, there are a few on here, unfortunately, that's why I chose to be "anon" before but never again! I am not associated with that poster.

I beg pardon, but I have to strongly disagree with above post.
If your heart is pounding, if you cannot catch a breath, if your vision is blurred, if you no longer recognize your surroundings (even for a few seconds), if you feel like you are going to die.......yes, you may well be experiencing a panic attack. Or you may not.
There have been too many times that people diagnosed themselves with a "panic attack", not even knowing what that is, and ended up dying with a heart attack or stroke. As in dead.
This is simply because of ignorance.
Once again, the first thing you do is to make sure the symptoms you have are not physical. And, you go from there.
If, once diagnosed as actually having panic attacks, with no physical reasons, then you learn to deal with it. You learn to "feel" it coming. You may be happily shopping in a mall or whatever, and suddenly feel like you cannot breathe. There is not a breath to be taken in. Your heart pounds. Your vision goes. Your extremities are not responding at all. You feel you are dying right there, right then. My first impulse was always to run, but I felt my body would not cooperate. It did. It always has......because it was panic attacks, and not a heart attack or stroke, etc.
So, you sit down. You pull your car off the road. You stop frying chicken. You take yourself out of harm's way, in other words. You learn to deal with it.
But, if you do not know for sure that this is what is occurring, you're a fool to treat it as anything less than some kind of breakdown in one of your systems. Cuz that's what it feels like. And, anyone who treats that particular feeling without seeking medical advice is a fool.
Any other advice is ludicrous.

If I had known EVERYTHING about starting a business and listened to all the naysayers, I never would have done it. Bought a computer, printer, fax, and dictaphone(no on line work then), and sent out letters, flyers, had cards printed, and knocked on dr. office doors to get my own work. I pretty much knew nothing except how to transcribe and was very good at it, I thought! Soon learned I was very good at what I knew but just as green as a newbie with new fields. Ended up with a very successful service and 10-12 employees. Supported my family and still do. Big difference in being prepared now is having the capability to do voice files. Eventually, you need a phone so your name is listed in the phone book and an accountant to do the financial stuff. You just have to have the basic knowledge that you probably already have, and learn as you go.

Heck, most of us take pride in our work and can run circles around your QA with accuracy! Please, you are way off base.
I agree there are some "fly by night" ICs who just don't care about QA or TAT, but that is not the majority. You can not make a generalized statement for all of us IC MTs. I am respected and paid very well by my Hospital for my accuracy and speed and knowledge!

Their ignorance doesn't hurt me
as much as the ignorance of people who should know better - like our "supervisors" etc. The only answer to nurses or anybody else who thinks like them is to give them a test tape and let them "have at it". That's usually a good eye opener, or mind opener.
I beg your pardon. I have elderly relatives in nursing homes who are constantly in and out of
hospitals. The elderly especially need our reports to be ACCURATE, as nobody gives a hoot to "talk" about them, let alone doctors getting to actually know and remember patients. EVERYTHING about their acute care in hospitals is taken FROM THE PAPER MEDICAL RECORD, and also when they get bumped back to the nursing home. The caretakers take ALL info from the transfer sheet. Reality check for those who need help most - elderly who cannot rattle off their histories themselves.

Oh bosh. I am a member of Mensa and a medical transcriptionist. I think it is VERY narrow minded of the whole bunch who criticize something they no NOTHING about. Mensa is simply an organization whose qualification is that you test in the top 2 percent on any of a couple of different IQ tests. High IQ and common sense are not mutually exclusive. I have two other comments: Intelligence is matriarchal (look it up) and if you would like the cheapest way of finding out your true IQ Mensa is generally the cheapest way to do it. It used to consist of 15 bucks and a Saturday morning at a university test -- but I'm sure there are more modern ways now. Contact American Mensa and find out. They are a very interesting bunch and have special interest groups which consist of just about any topic you can think of from alcoholics to chocoholics to irish dancing and beyond....

If a company hires only ICs, then they cannot expect them to work except for the times they want.
Typing less than 100 lines a day is not pocketchange because of the pay.
I don't want to worry about the IRS showing
up on my doorstep, so I have my taxes done by H&R Block. No guarantee that you still won't have problems with IRS, but it makes me feel better. I don't claim my house/utilities. I don't claim nickel and dime stuff either.
When my mother died exactly a week later I get a letter from the IRS stating she owed $25,000.00 - no explanation. I was freaking, not only was I grieving but having to worry about this. I wrote a very nice letter, sent them a copy of her death certificate, and said I thought the issue was a roll-over of an IRA. My mom didn't have much money and I knew that she had rolled over one so I was just guessing. They sent me a letter a couple of weeks later saying the situation had been resolved and no monies due. I don't know what the problem was, but 5 years later I still have that letter.

The memory showing says up to on
all of them, which means that is the maximum you can have, but you customize. You can pick the cheapest one, but by the time you customize it, it can be $200 to $300 more. I looked at them all and the processor speed is not that fast. Depending on what programs you use it may be too slow. I would get one with a faster processor speed. You may also want to get a laptop with XP instead of Vista since there are still so many bugs with it.
