Outer Banks, NC...Don't waste time on VA Beach
Posted By: sm on 2006-04-22
In Reply to: we've gone to Ocean City or VA Beach (sm) - just some thoughts
I live in Virginia Beach and there's not much to do here and definitely wouldn't recommend taking a vacation here. Unless of course you like rubbing elbows with all the tourists crowded on the boardwalk. We love going down to the Outer Banks. It's much more laid back there and you can claim your own little stretch of beach cuz it's not so crowded. The locals are much nicer there and you can rent a beach house for pretty cheap if you look around.

its a waste of time yet you take the time to respond?
Utter waste of time, unless you have a lot of time--then have at it! nm

Don't waste your time there
Very unprofessional. Outdated system. Lacks work. I resigned shortly after getting hired, and I gave them the 2 wks' notice, still worked during those two weeks, mailed an invoice, and still has not received my pay.
You are a big waste of our time.
IMO waste of my time
VR is not taking over the MT position anytime soon. I hated doing editing because it was twice the work and half the pay. I always ended up typing everything over because it was so wrong. Especially w ESL. Docs have to train the computer to recognize their voice and they don't take and don't have the time to do so. I found a company with straight transcription and I am much happier.
Waste of time

Then you shouldn't waste the time sm
going on the cruise if you are going to have to worry about work even if it takes you no time at all to get it done. When you have an opportunity for rest and relaxation you need to take it. It will be more trouble having to worry with the work on vacation. I agree... see if someone locally does MT and get them to do it while you are gone. Have them sign a contract or something so that you don't have to worry about your accounts. Or I would be they would hold their dictation and let you do it when you got back. NO WAY should you take the work with you. If you have been with them for 5 years, you have already proven your worth. Chances are if you tell them you are going to take a short vacation since you haven't in 5 years, they will respond and so go, we will hold it til you get back.
Good luck, enjoy yourself!!
I used to waste sooooo much time
looking things up, then get sidetracked, etc. When I started using the stopwatch, I wouldn't reset it until the end of my shift. I just started it running everytime I stopped typing and then stopped it when I started typing again. At the end of the day I nearly FAINTED when I saw how much time I was losing.
I have a 3 to 5-minute limit now. I start that watch and in 3 minutes if I am no where near finding the information, I put a blank and go on. If I feel I've almost found what I'm looking for, I continue but at 5 minutes I call it quits and it gets a blank to QA.
Don't hardly ever send blanks to QA because I can send 2 blanks to the hospital without any trouble.
Still, it helps me keep on task and at the end of the day I can see where I have not been productive if my lines are really sucky. LOL LOL LOL
Why would any decent MT waste their time with MQ
Don't be fooled by their latest spins. If it didn't benefit them, they wouldn't be doing it. The only ones with a good deal at MQ are the suits. They should be eating some of the slop they feed MTs.
Just seems like a big-time waste of money
to buy a keyboard just because a letter is worn off.
Don't waste your money or your time. sm
I was a CMT for 15 years. It never did a bit of good money wise. Like another poster said, there use to be bonuses for production with some companies (large bonuses) and they never had anything to do with CMT.
You will be spending more money than you want to as well as having to get CECs all the time. AHDI doesn't care about American MTs. This test (in my opinion) is just like the "almighty" BOS, just something else to get the MTs money that will never do the MT any good but keep funding AHDI.
AAMT/AHDI or whoever they are has been saying for years it will be mandatory to be a CMT some day. That is baloney. Any decent employer will go by your experience and what you can show them you can do and not by any stupid CMT certificate.
I wouldn't think a second thought about it if I were you. Its not worth the paper its printed on.
I wouldn't waste my time going to any sm
MT school. This profession has gone down the tubes and continues to go down very quickly. By the time you get out of school, you aren't going to be able to make any money anyway. You will be singing the blues like everybody else here.
Just trying to warn you not to do it. Find another profession and don't waste your money.
OMG! This is too weird! You can't comprehend what I'm saying, so I won't waste your time!

cherry picking is a waste of time
if you get an ESL that you cannot understand, type them anyway the best you can. If you have to leave blanks, then leave them. You will get used to the doctor eventually. (Sometimes I think it will never happen with some!) Also, if you send the same doctor in enough with blanks, they will usually send you samples or maybe the doctor might start actually speaking BETTER if enough MTs are having issues and send him in to QA often enough. The cherry pickers are hurting themselves in the long run. If the same MTs keep getting them and doing well because they are used to them, then they will not get sent to QA.
Take as many different worktypes as you can and as many different doctors as you can, it will benefit you in the long run, make you more flexible.
well, actually i had responded and given her the answer so it did waste my time. sm
if she was only doing "practice tapes", why try to be so perfect? Practice tapes to get an idea of the profession doesn't mean trying to find out exactly what each word is. i am not usually tacky on this board and don't like it when others are but i did consider that a waste of my precious time to help her when it sounded like she didn't need the definite answer just to get "an idea" of the profession and was most likely needing test answers. someone in the medical field should know those terms.
I don't think it is a waste of time, nor do I find it long to do at all
it's a natural law. don't waste your time posting
hate on MT boards or you will fall under nonsurvival natural law.
just sayin.... truth might not be pleasant but helps to prioritize what you do with your life and time. you don't like what your doing and can't make enough money, get a new skill. the higher up the education you choose to pursue, the less likely you break your back in a field or scrubbing commodes at a fast food restaurant. natural law for modern days.
CMT is a waste of money & time. Times are different in the MT
industry anymore and having a CMT doesn't make a hill of beans difference. Companies are going to pay what they want to pay. Having a CMT isn't going to get you anymore money. That's a fallacy. There was a time when having a CMT would have gotten you a little better pay but those days are LONG gone. Save your money because that's all AAMT wants. AAMT are big corporation suckups, offshore suckups, and will suckup to anyone or any company that has BIG BUCKS! AAMT care NOT about the American MT, which became crystal clear with the announcement of their upcoming name change.
Who wants to waste their time reading this stuff here? nm

Or a comedian. If dont want to waste time,

Sorry, I was saying 'No' to CS being a waste of time! Yes, to CS being legitimate!
I had previously put in the subject line "NO," but that was in response to the question about if CS was a waste of time. I didn't want anyone to get the idea that I was saying CS is not legitimate. It most certainly IS LEGITIMATE and worth every penny I paid!:) I just had to clarify that. :) Sorry, I don't usually frequent this forum.
writing out by hand --> big waste of time! sm
do it in your word processor -- just switch windows between documents. Or better yet, invest in software such as MPLite and then at the end of each day you can run a summary report by office or doctor for all the work you did that day. This software will also simplify your invoicing procedures.
Don't waste your time, with your experience, you don't need those initials (nm)

Waste of time and hard-earned money
when you can only make may be 1 cpl more if you are a CMT. They should not charge you, they should just let you take the test and send you the certificate.
clicking on your post to see an answer was a waste of time

5 minutes tops; if not tend to waste too much time - sm
google what you think it may be, or key terms in the phrase and usually you can figure it out that way pretty quickly.
I agree with the other posters that I found them to be a waste of time ...
I sent them a resume with over 20 years of acute care experience and they didn't even extend me the professional courtesy of acknowledging that they received it.
The archives yield posts by other MTs stating more disappointment with them after making contact than favorable results.
Nope. Huge waste of time and money.

Just wanted a quick reply, not a lecture. No time to waste. Thank you.

Get involved? With AAMT? You've got to be joking. What an incredible waste of time.
It wasn't ALL that and it was expensive no matter. I'm sick of hearing the same old blather and seeing NO change that benefits AMERICAN MTs. I'm in California so it was nothing for me to hop from the mainland, but EVERYTHING on the Hawaiian Islands is expensive. Of course, the Modesto Mavens were there in all their AAMT glory. Can you say PUKE? Sorry, but that's the way I feel about it. I went to see if anything had changed, REALLY changed, and most of it was a big bunch of double talk. Oh, and to think that I actually thought that I might interject in conversation! Boy, was I wrong. I'll never attend another AAMT convention again in my life. What a waste of time and money.
i'd call that brownie points for heaven LMAO...and a waste of time!
;)
To down and outer:
You sound a bit depressed and with good reason. Maybe some Lexapro would help with the sleepiness, it did wonders for me. Nothing is worse than wearing a ball and chain, give yourself a break now and then, they're not going to fire you for getting up and walking around for a couple minutes...or if they do, you don't want to work there anyway. One good thing about ESLs is that once you get the hang of them they almost always say the same thing all the time so you can make Expanders for big blocks and REALLY fly. Make expanders for everything you can. One thing I do is in a 2 word phrase I use the first 2 letters of each word i.e. stco = stable condition, whatever abbreviations you can use that you can remember. Sometimes it helps to make a couple of shortcuts each day, write them on a stick-up note and put it on your monitor, then force yourself to use that abbreviation every time it comes up even if it means you have to back up and take out the word(s) you've already typed and re-type it using the expander. It may take a bit of extra time in the beginning but in the end it will be well worth the effort.
Cheer up and hang in there, you CAN do it! It'll be okay.
Depends. Is it strictly transcribing? Is all patient info provided so you don't waste time? Any d
That's great Patti. Thanks. Have a great time at the beach.

The CMT exam is overrated. Don't waste your time & money. Use that money on
paid anymore just because you have it. There are a few CMT cheerleaders that post to people like you but they are pretty well sucked up into that association.
HIPAA is like the banks - there is NO
I called a doctor's office and got medical information on my Ex husband - yes Ex husband. Hospitals and doctor's offices hire alot of incompetent people to handle confidential information and these people don't have clue. With this issue being so widespread - to you really think they care about MTs jobs and the information being shipped overseas? Try this - call a hospital and pretend to be Dr. X from X Medical Center in Santa Monica, California (or anywhere...just google and choose). You can get information easily. Did you ever see the shows where John/Jane Doe go into a hospital and work as a doctor and they never have been to medical school? Happens more than you know and it's horrifying!
I have to disagree with you. Banks will finance
trailers. I know, because I had a trailer several years ago and it was financed through a bank.
Those are great ideas, but I think the food banks
and churches are probably not going to want to be so eager to help since the OP owns 5 houses. Her best bet is going to be to be extremely frugal at low cost markets.
Switching banks - DD question (Happy B-day to poster below!!)
I have two bank accts. One is Wells Fargo where I have DD. The other is with Wash. Mutual which I just opened as I want to quit banking at Wells Fargo.
Has anyone switched banks and requested DD to be placed on another account? If so, is there a time lapse in between that is of any length? (i.e., will they mail the check to me in between stopping one DD acct and before setting up the other?).
Guess I should just call HR but I know they are busy as it is payday. Will wait until Monday. Thanks if you can be of help.
Been dealing with banks all morning and majorly stressed.
Have you ever had a credit card and all the phone numbers they give you do not allow you to talk to a live person, but get an automated system, that is not capable of doing what you need? Have you ever had a late charge because it took the bank 3 days to post an on-line payment? I'm going to have to write a letter I guess and when the next statement comes I'm paying it off and cancelling, though I'm not sure how I'll do that - have to write another letter.
Can you use a debit card on-line just like you can a credit card. I know most places only accept 3 major credit cards and didn't know if I entered a Visa debit # if that would be the same. I prefer Paypal cause I keep a little stash for on-line purchase, though most places don't take Paypal at least not yet. I just know I've got to get rid of the credit cards - much too stressful.
she was america's next top model - a tyra banks show nm

Win The Prize - Translate this: "Asa facial radishes with banks"
The answer was:
"Esophageal varices with bands."
This doctor is going to drive me to drugs!
(above is how my head feels after typing report, urghhh)
Most banks have auto numbers to call to find out balance. SM
You could call bank tomorrow morning. Maybe put some charges on credit card, but anyway call them.
As stated, it is taken out immediately. When I purchase stuff and use it, but forget to put it in checkbook, recording will tell me as soon as I arrive home what was spent.
Way down here now, but I'm GOING TO THE BEACH!
I have cooked for everyone one in my family and everyone in everyone else's family for the past 30 years (on the nose).
This year my daughter and I are heading east to the beach at a quaint motel with a handful of restaurants. I'm thinking stuffed shrimp this year instead of stuffed turkey!!
You have fun RadGuy!!
Yes! And a beach!
:)
Is there still one in Deerfield Beach?
..
Try Turtle Beach
Audio Advantage. Essentially it is an external sound card. Plugs into USB port and then your headphones plug into it. I have had one for about a year and cant live without it. My problem is so called "secret" dictators. A lot of my docs think their dictation is a secret or something and talk so low that I simply cannot hear them. The Turtle Beach does wonders for them. There are tons of options to play with that helps clear up noise too. One warning though, it will render your speakers useless and you only have sound through your headphones unless you uninstall it.
Me too!!! The beach is the most relaxing and best!!!
I absolutely love Florida for the same reason, the beach. I'm planning Aruba next year, I simply can't wait!
I did South Beach also -
and lost the tummy area first. I was absolutely amazed how I was never hungry and didn't crave chips, ice cream and chocolate! I found it time consuming preparing the meals, but the results were worth it.
Myrtle Beach.
We stayed at the Royal Garden Resort through Dunes Realty (Dunes.com) and had a great time. It cost us about $800 for the week. It was right on the beach and was within driving distance of anything fun.
Hopes this help.
1.88 yesterday in Va Beach, Va.
