Ours is right at $3, but I get FANTASTIC gas mileage.

In Reply to: Our gas prices are just over $3/gallon and summer's coming! - Makes me worry!

I feel for those of with you SUV's and minivans. Filling those up has got to be expensive.

gas mileage
I also make sure that I do all errands when doing deliveries and so that mileage is written off.  My deduction for my mileage yearly is over $5000 and so that is $5000 I don't may taxes or SS on.  And it is the same amount of miles I would be putting on my car if I had a job and worked over by where 90% of my accounts are located --by the hospital and that would not be deductible.  So that is a savings -- again I make sure I do the majority of my errands while on my daily run and don't use the care much more than that per day.
You can write off your mileage

to get into.  As far as blocking your schedule, that's your fault, not the office's fault.  Would you charge an online company a "sit and wait" for dictation charge because you blocked your morning?  Hello?  You have to be very flexible in this business.  I have gone and there's only 1 tape to pick-up.  I really don't care to know the doctor's daily schedule because I have enough to worry about, but high-paying jobs are hard to find.  It sounds like you've made up your mind in that you don't like the driving, office, or the dictator himself, so what kind of advice are you looking for?  If you just want to know whether to charge for a pick-up that brings you home empty-handed, then no do not charge.  Why don't you talk to your overflow account and find out if this happens can you take work?  I just don't get some of you gals...  Really this allergist does not "owe you a tape" everytime you come in and I'm wondering if you are going to return reports.  If you are returning reports, then your trip was not wasted.

P/S:  It could be worse; they could NOT PAY!!!!!  LOL  Good luck...

you will only get 55 cents for mileage SM
reimbursement so that does not help much with 3 miles round trip. I used to charge by the hour for such nonsense when I was IC. You are getting robbed otherwise. Make it clear to them in, possible in an addendum to your contract for additional copies it will cost $x per page due to travel expenses (gas, time, etc.) Your time is worth a lot and they are not taking care of their records. Good luck with this!
YMMV (your mileage may vary)

>>>Who are making more money with VR than you did with straight transcribing?

Depends upon the day.

>>>If so, how many LPH did you average when doing straight transcribing?

About 250 lph.

>>>If not, how would you rate the difference, approximately in % of income lost

When VR is "kicking booty," I can get close to 400 lph with around 99% accuracy. And that's just straight dictation. If I knew how to do macros and templates, I could probably get close to 500 lph. --- But it didn't happen overnight. I started using the product again in November 2002 when I busted my finger. When it's a matter of spending the time training the product correctly or not working at all, you find a lot of patience.

what is the rationale for going digital, your savings on mileage?
you need to sell the doc on the advantages HE will receive from digital, i.e. better quality = fewer blanks/errors, ability to STAT, perhaps even improve the TAT on his transcription?
As a for instance, 225 lines/hr at 8 cpl would be $18/hr. Your mileage may vary. nm

15 cents a line AND charge mileage

I prefer Dorland's and consider it the "bible" of medical terminology. Others' mileage

Know of this - its fantastic
Have been using this for well over a year now and its been a really great help in finding words. I have this as my homepage now, instead of Google. It has all the features of Google, but just so much better. Guess its due to all those medical websites added to its database. If you use this, you'd notice that the first few search results pages almost always show up quality medical links. Normally, you don't have to go beyond a maximum of two search results pages to get what you are lookin for. Try it - you'd know what I'm talkin about :)
that's fantastic! congrats!!

how did you get so lucky to find a man that can actually voice his appreciation of you to you!!???  there aren't many out there like that.

what about the fantastic four, remember them?
I think there is a movie out about them, but my boyfriend and his brother liked the characters from childhood. For their basketball team, they had T-shirts made up; one was the torch, one was the rubber man, etc.

Since they brought it back and made a movie, it may be a bit overdone now, though.

Gee, are these four boys, four girls, ages - do they like scary or are they just small?

Fantastic Sams

Do you have a Fantastic Sams in your area.  In my area they do a good job and they don't cost a fortune.  But in all cases, be careful about who you let color your hair.  You can also lookup the websites of the different hair color products on the Internet and some of them have a consultation area where you can talk to someone to get advice.

Fantastic!!!! Good for you :-) nm

Hey, Ghost, yes, I got these two years ago, they are fantastic,,,,,sm
They really block out any noise around your house, are comfortable, but best of all they produce crisp, clear, life-like sound for all those mumble-mouth dictators.....won't solve everything, but I have been doing this over 25 years, used Dictaphone, and many many other brands, Bose rocks, not to mention using them for music listening, absolutely awesome and worth the bucks, IMHO!
I thought Transolutions was sooo fantastic, don't they have something to help you with that?

I believe fantastic transcripts only hires locals - sm
But I am not sure. If that is the company out in Burbank/LA - I thought they only hire within 30 minutes of the area. I could be wrong.
Been working on a fantastic project at work...sm
Helping prepare for President Bush to come and give his Veterans Day speech from where I work.  It's amazing to see how they put everything together in a few short days. We got word less than a week ago he was even coming, and now we are overrun with preparations and White House/Security staff. Hoping I can get a ticket for my 10 y/o daughter to come to see the speech. If you would have told me 15 months ago when I took this job that I'd be working on this now, I never would have believed you. I worked at home for 13 years, so this is all really huge switch for me.
Sounds fantastic. I wouldn't stres-sm
about it.  The colors sound great--the menu sounds delicious.  Either place you put the food would be fine.  Have fun!
What a fantastic, cogent, and TRUTHFUL post.....sm
We at home have been reduced, in most part, to a pair of hands who are there to pound out high-quality work at all times, put out high-volume work to bring in the $$$ for the company/corporation, and because we are employed at home in order to save physicians, hospitals, and other health care systems $$$, we are where the buck stops, and it is a small buck at that. We are all a separate entity, working remotely, and as such it is easier for many MTSOs to offer the slimmest package they possibly can, and squeeze the most out of the workers. When will companies realize that a happy worker who feels valued and cared about is a more productive, loyal, and healthier asset to the company. I have worked in hospitals with unions, and to be honest, we would still be making half of what we now make were it not for union negotiations standing up for us, the dues are small compared to the guaranteed packages, and guaranteed raises built in to the contract for the next five years, as inflation eats up our paychecks. MTs study hard, must be experts at anatomy, epidemiology, grammar, semantics, translations for ESLs, understand clinical procedures during difficult procedures, edit, trouble-shoot when there is a problem with a file, be tech-savvy....I truly think, after almost 20 years, that MT as a profession has consistently been undervalued and undermined by offshoring. Sorry to rant, but all of these problems have hurt and affected most MTs for many, many years, and their families. Thanks!
Fantastic program .. I have hired MTEC
grads and have been really pleased with them. I would definitely suggest you choose that program. Wonderful education and caring staff.
I do, 20 bucks plus shipping. Pedal works fantastic, hardly used.

This is a fantastic idea actually (renting hotel room)
It may be tax deductible. I actually like my home and it is affordable as I got it at a low price several years ago and put a big down payment on it. In other words, I doubt if I could repeat this. No small children. What I am thinking of is that I will probably have to work until I am 60 at least. The only other option would be to go back to school and get training in another skill but even that seems difficult. I have no idea what I could learn and work at other than nursing.

Thank you very much
