you need to find someone who can write (not record) a macro that can find more than one word.

Macro for multiple find/replace
Please email me with some specific details of specific phrases in your list to find / replace - I will work out a macro for you that can run through the whole list. I'll also repost here if anyone else is interested
I would say the most used word or phrase
used on this board is
ME. ME. ME.
I'd very much appreciate it if someone could tell me how I can go about changing a word or phrase
I am doing a long legal dictation of conversation and I need to change someone's name throughout the report. I don't want to have to take the time to go through 100 pages changing the name everywhere and I'm worried I might miss some too. Thanks so much in advance.
Word/phrase Autocompletion
Does anyone use any of the word/phrase autocompletion software programs for MT work? Which ones work productively?
Thanks
Compiling a phrase and word list
The software that does this is Instant Text.
IT can make a list of the most frequently used words and phrases in your transcription. You select the folder of files you want Instant Text to "read" through and in a few seconds your list is done.
Instant Text also includes a number of glossaries ready to be used. See link:
http://www.textware.com/itfeature/glossary2page.htm
I guess that is what you are looking for. If you have any questions you can email me.

ABCZ word/phrase list for Autotext?
Does anyone know where an ABCZ word/phrase list for Autotext (not autocorrect) can be found?
Stedman's phrase book vs. Medical Phrase Index? sm
I'm debating between the newest edition of the MPI versus the Stedman's phrase book. Have had experience with the MPI, but not the Stedman's one. Is Stedman's worth it?
I tried to find this on the Word board...
but had no luck. Do you think maybe it is a solution that they use solely at the facility you are transcribing for? Is there maybe a Dr. Schimmel and he has made his own solution to use on his patients? They do that sometimes. Do you have any way to check with your account and find out if this is something that they use only there?
If you don't take the time to find to do things
that give you joy you'll become a bitter old woman and you'll always have regrets that you gave so much of yourself to your job.
My mother died of cancer, she fought it for 17 years, but she was just 50 when she got it and the chemo damaged her heart so that she had no quality of life and she wanted to go to the beach one more time.
My father worked hours and hours, OT and weekends, and neglected his family, not out of financial need - not sure why exactly. He developed Alzheimer's in his early 60s, was not able to enjoy retirement and it didn't matter that he had $100,000 in the bank because he didn't know who he was, didn't know who I was, was in diapers, couldn't feed himself, etc.
Make the time to do what you enjoy, if only for 15 minutes a day. If $$ is an issue, use coupoons, buy off brands, shop yard sales, etc.
You can work until you last breath and they'll still be calling you to help with the backlog. The company doesn't care about you, doesn't care if your children are sick, if your parents are dying, if you are puking your guts out, so why should you kill yourself for the company.
Do you find it time consuming
preparing everything? I need to get back on it and the only showstopper is time. The last time I was on it (obviously didn't stick to it) I lost 25 pounds but found preparing the meals and snacks was time consuming. Please Email me. Thanks.
I find that if I slow down and actually take time
to use my ShortHand Expander properly, my lines go way up. If I just start typing faster and using only the small 1 or 2 word abbreviations I use all the time, I get no where fast. You see, I have thousands and thousands of abbreviations, but the real time saver is the phrases and normals I have at my disposable. I just have to slow down and watch the Shorthand window. It may seem like you are wasting time scanning the list of abbreviations, but it's the only way to really churn out the lines. You also tend to make fewer mistakes requiring backspacing when you slow down and pay attention to the abbreviations window.
I would try to find something part time (sm)
in acute care, even if it is 7 cpl. Keep your other job, but do the acute care to get the experience. You will probably be slow and have to look up a lot, but the more you do it, the better you will be at it and then you will be able to move to a different company with better pay.
It will kill 2 birds with 1 stone. You get more money either way.
time to find a new cardiologist!
If that doctor admittedly is more concerned with saving a few dollars than he is with the quality of his patient's medical records, then who knows where else he might be cutting corners - and how much he's overcharging his patients!
Your mom definitely needs to thank him for his honesty regarding what is most important to him and then inform him she won't be putting her life in his hands any longer!
By dates. Find a time when you SM
are relaxed. Then go back, starting from course completion or first job. Just go date by date until current. Funny you mentioned this, since I was just reviewing mine. It's not easy when you're tired, so if you are a Nightowl, try it in the morning or any quiet time. I don't believe you need to put exact dates, just the year and any person who was your supervisor or anyone you want as referral. There are also sites online that might help, but not with your dates. :)
Example: (Basic)
MT course completion: 1990.
Smith Hospital 1991.
MQ 1991-Fall 1991.
Jones Hospital 1992.
MQ 1992-1993.

Where Can I find Microsoft Word 2003? sm
Is this the same as Microsoft Office Word 2003? I need this particular program, and can't seem to find it on the net any place. Any advice?
Thank you, could not find it in any of my word books or Google
xx
I did all the time when I worked there but have moved on to find
..
I don't think it is a waste of time, nor do I find it long to do at all
Don't feel ill - it look me a very long time to find it and you can too.
Search, search and search some more. You will be surprised what you can find. It takes time, but those accounts are out there. How do you think MTSO and large MT companies get accounts? A little research and many phone calls.
Find my reports changed all the time.
In ChartScript you can view and edit previous reports. Anyway, I have found tons of my work which I know is not the way I typed it. I just let it go and so far have they have not said anything. If, however, I was told about these mistakes I would say something even though I know QA would be right. Agree, they think they know it all and some really don't know jack.
No but I wish people would take the time to find this information. sm
Sometimes it just takes the effort to look. I see people wanting information. The information is easy to find, but they want others to do the research and hand it to them. I had to do the research. I now have 20+ docs/clinics BUT key point is I did all of my own research, learned about how digital works, etc. I truly believe, the more you read (research) the more you as an individual will learn and therefore be able to offer your clientm more.
Sounds like time to find different co to test for.

When you stop caring, it is time to find
It does not matter if you do QA or greet people at Wal-Mart, if you don't care it is time to find something else to do.
It isn't just about you that QA makes these changes. QA is doing their job to their employer's expectations. Either take it as constructive criticism or leave, but don't make someone else pay for your lack of concern. Having done everything in a medical office from scheduling appointments to transcription to bill collection, I can honestly say that quality matters - it matters to someone, somewhere - and if you are not in that loop, please for the rest of us that still care even after close to 30 years of this business, please, please take yourself to someplace you can be happy.
I do not agree with every nick-picking change QA makes, but I don't dwell on it or stop caring. I keep plugging away at doing the best job I can. I am doing something where I make good money and feel like I have an impact on patient care without having face-to-face patient contact or co-employee issues that come with working on-site.
So, go, shoo, get, go on now. Let me have your work.
Thanks for the link. I will update as soon as I can find time to learn it.

Do any of you find you miss a word sometimes if you dont reread your transcription. I wonder what
causes that and how to avoid it without totally going over every report.
I find you do tend to skip maybe a word sometimes when you dont reread. I guess
your brain doesnt keep up or something. I dont know what causes that.
What is going on when every time you start computer - there are numerous empty folders, cannot find

Thanks ... guess I'll have to check it out some time ... like I need to find more ways to goof of

Will soon be working in Word for the first time sm
and I was going to use Shortcut, but do I need to? Would the auto-correct feature of Word work just the same, or is there an advantage to using Shortcut? I am an old PRD+ user, and am now using Bayscribe, which uses an Expander similar to PRD, so now am having to evaluate options.
Thanks for your input.
Need help on word board if anyone has time. nm
Word has been slow for a long time and I just
cleaned up the Autocorrect and what a difference. Thanks for the information!
Next time this belongs on the Word board -nm
I personally will NOT spend too much time looking for a word. I listen 3-5 times if I still don'
it goes to the QA. I am getting paid 5-8cpl, depending upon the account, as an IC and don't have the time to spend too long looking. If I can't find something in 15 minutes I'm done. If I got paid more I might take more time to look, but at these line rates no WAY!
I also get no feedback from QA, or very rarely. We have one QA who is rude and puts down the MTs at every turn. It isn't easy for the MT either. If you aren't even listening to the dictation how do you even know WHY the MT didn't get the word, maybe the doctor is a total mush mouth and our ears are bleeding by the time we got to that word.
Part-time work using Extext/word client/dictaphone
Anyone know any companies that are hiring that use this system? I really want to start part-time and then probably commit to full time later. I really want a company that supplies your equipment! Thanks.
Hold down Ctrl and Shift and use right arrow to highlight one word at a time. sm
You can highlight noncontiguous words by holding down on Ctrl and selecting different words.
Help w/phrase
Very thick- Latin accent. Under THROAT: s/l Injected post-pharyngeal streaking.
makes no sense to me, any guesses?

new phrase
Yeah, I know you've heard the term "go postal". I think we can start using "going Sheila" or "going Kikki". I dunno, there are so many names she uses it would hard to pick a name. Seems like the name "Red" starting showing up today spouting the same anger this morning. Now it is Sheila. Such a shame.
I just add an *s* on the end of the phrase..
so I leave TWWI for the wound was irrigated, and make it TWWIS for the wounds were irrigated. They both come up on the advisory as you start typing, so I don't have to remember anything. I have found IT to be the most valuable thing I have ever come across in terms of productivity, simply because of the fact that I don't have to remember much at all. My system is if for example I have several 3-word phrases that start with the same letter, I just add an additional letter to the end, whatever the next letter in the last word is. For example I have CAD as coronary artery disease and CADI as carotid artery disease, and CADR as cleaned and dressed. Also I like that I don't have to worry about what they are named, because they don't expand with the space bar, so no worries of accidentally getting paroxysmal atrial tachychardia when I ony meant Pat.
Also, maybe it's because I play the piano but I don't find it that difficult to look from the screen to the advisory. I equate it to what I do with my eyes while I'm driving!! I also don't stress about typing things out..if I have to stop and think about an entry I probably don't use it enough to need an expansion for it anyway. I like the consistency of the *naming* part of IT, always the first letter of each word for the phrase, and I have gained a lot of speed by utilizing the word side too, I enter all of those big long single medical words (nonmedical ones too) and it's great only having to type 3-4 letters of a 12-13 letter word. Plus I enter drug names in one time and then I don't have to look up their spellings ever again. Didn't mean for this to be so long but as you can tell I am a huge IT fan. This program changed my life and doubled my income in the past year!!!
VR and ASR will never EVER replace MTs
I have done reports, in fact one just now, where the dictator jumped three or four different times from the hospital course to the diagnosis. How is a voice rec machine going to pick this up and put it in the right format? Also, the other day I had a doc that dictated a surgery on both the left and right foot....although in the diagnosis it was the right foot only. I get docs who are confuses as to gender of patient, says he...she...he...then she through the report. And again, more than once a day, I get a doc who talks on the phone as loud as he is dictating. Won't the machines pick this up? What about period as opposed to the actual symbol period? I don't care what you say, we will not be replaced!!! Not possible.
Do a Replace.
Edit, Replace. Search for .(one space) and replace with .(two spaces) You can also write a macro to do this for you.
You may want to replace your
PS in example just replace Alt J with f3 if that is the you want to go
nm
Why replace them?? Don't you know
x
i used to replace them
just as soon as a new edition came out. Now, am only updating my most used ones, which include the surgical book. i've been at this 30 yr, and do use the I/N for lots of research, but prefer the books, where i can make notes, highlight, etc. I find them more reliable and quick than the I/N in may circumstances.
EMR will replace some
some MTSO. Our local hospital here is using eRecord which allows the doctor to dictate into certain fields and requires in-house transcriptionist/secretary to go in and transcribe directly into EMR. However, at my old group of hospitals in prior state I lived the EMR we had incorporated DolbeySTAT into the EMR so it depends on the hospital
