She (my friend) knows all the ins and outs. So when I was in a car accident in 10/05 I asked her....I had run into the money machine chiropractors before in the past and my SIL sees a real quack who has her basically living on herbal pills (she barely eats), and has her kids on them too. So my experience was a bit jaded. She said if you went to one who got their schooling at Palmer College of Chiropractors, then they should be a good chiropractor and be "straight" and practice straight chiropractic care and not be out to rape your wallet and use gadgets, etc. I heeded her advice and now am seeing a Palmer graduate and have been very happy with my care and my back is tons better now (after I was told there was nothing that could be done by my orthopedist). It did not happen overnight, took about 2-3 months, about $45 a visit. She "adjusts" (cracks) my back, neck and hips. I have had one "relapse" so to speak (which can happen and is normal) but that is on the mend now. I now only go every 2 weeks. I will probably continue to see her even after I sign off on the accident (my health insurance covers $1000 of chiropractic care a year, so I will be covered which is nice at 2 visits a month pretty much). As long as you don't go to a quack, I think it would probably help you but don't expect miracles overnight, takes a little time to feel better. Good luck.

I am a total baby, I can't tolerate one second of that nerve type pain and what I thought were panic attacks/heart racing was actually a side effect of novocaine.
I went to one dentist and had a deep filling and he couldn't numb it in what seemed like just one tiny spot, I complained whenever he would hit that spot and he kept giving me more novocaine and I would up with very bad palpitations.
In the end I think he began to avoid that spot and the tooth was not done properly and I ended up having to have a root canal.
When I went to the next guy I told him what happened. Since I had palpitations with the novocaine, they gave me a different anesthesia, carbocaine. I ran my tongue over the area while it was numbing and if I felt anything I said I still have some feeling right here, etc. And I got another needle. No palpitations at all and I didn't feel a thing. The entire area was numb for around 8 hours so that was weird but better than pain.
Try another dentist and explain your fears and your last experience. You really need to have this done.

I had a good friend who did it and I found out... and
when I found out it was when I was promoted to the transcription regional manager for the branch. It was up to me to do random QA and invoicing to make sure everything was okay. It was really, really sad because my very best friend there who started with me at the same time, on the same great account (we both did well, and this was back in the late 80s early 90s). So, about 6 years later, when I decided to go into QA and then management I did a random on my friend. This was absolutely just by chance. Well, I found out she was padding her lines about 12000 lines per pay period!!!!!!!I cannot tell you how shocked I was. These were the days we went according to bites and divided, etc. We were even allowed to use codes and that was okay too for the extra lines, like bolding, remember. Well even so, she was adding about 6K lines a week and no wonder she was making so much money. She used to laugh when we were friends because she'd put the book on the dictaphone pedal while she ran errands.
My heart broke that day. I asked her to please don't do it anymore. Well, unfortunately she did not listen to me and she got in big trouble. She was not fired, but I do not know what happened because between that and a wage cut some VP did on my MTs, I quit management. BTW: The padding in the case then was because it was an honor system. The MT was to look at the bytes and divide and type on a sheet and send the totals in, much like recent times for some companies. Only these days the software calculates it and usually it is the MTSO that can cheat by cutting line counts in deceptive ways. Oh, my, please this is a long enough note and don't get me started. I may have to hit the New Year's bottle and I don't want to do that because I go to work at 3 AM. LOL . HAPPY NEW YEAR EVERYONE. See you NEXT YEAR heh heh.

did that a few months ago, had a mortgage and a 2nd mortgage, and just could not keep up. They agreed to a short sale on the 2nd mortgage, and by a miracle she got a buyer. She actually walked away with about $1K. Lives with boyfriend now which is saving his butt from foreclosure now.

A good friend died of cancer that I suspected years before
because of a test he had and he had asked me to get a copy of, which I did, but not being "qualified", it said possible metastasis, I just told him I couldn't get it for some reason, and to talk to his doctor. His doctor, for some strange reason said it was "normal". I then asked him to get a copy of it himself, but he didn't. My husband told him to go to another doctor. It took several years, but he eventually was diagnosed with cancer after having a seizure, (it had spread to his brain) and he died a few months later.
The bottom line is, we're really not qualified to diagnose or advise people. I do feel terrible guilt for it, (you should've seen me at the funeral) but there's nothing we can do. If a doctor doesn't diagnose something properly, even if WE KNOW, there's still nothing we can do about it. We don't have the capacity to treat them and nobody is going to listen to us.

I definitely would question it. For one, that amount is outrageous. When I first started taking my family to the chiropractor we went every week, my whole family. Now, my husband and I go every week and my kids go every other week or so. My kids play sports and it helps them. I only pay $100.00 a month for a family of 5.

Yes, you should go for it! Just be sure you find yourself a good one. I have scoliosis and a herniated disk and have very little pain.

Love them!!! I had an injury to my jaw and got TMJ also, and the chiro can help that and the neck. In fact my dentist had me go to the chiro first for an adjustment before I had my night guard measured that I use for grinding.
But I go to the chiro about once a month now for a good adjustment. Just sitting in the position we do all day really wears on the body and the neck. I also have my chiro spray the area with fluoromethane just before the adjustment. It gives you a buzz for a couple minutes long enough for you to relax and they can do there job even better.
I even was a guinea pig for my chiro when he went to learn how to do manipulations under anesthesia. That was a great experience too.
Also my chiro sends me to a massage therapist in between my adjustments just to keep everything loose and moving freely. And if you can, try a hot stone/rock massage. Gets to the muscles even deeper for even more of a relaxation during the massage. We all deserve the massage treatment for the jobs we do. My attitude is a whole lot better for a longer period time.

I, too, was in a car accident in my 20s with a rollover x6, have/had 2 herniated disks and neck problems. The pain would be so bad, I needed crutches or a cane and could barely get around. I decided to go to a chiropractor instead of being operated on. My first one was a female, 4 feet 11 inches tall, and still working at age 92. She was great. She didn't use machines at all.
My second one is now in his 70s and he uses a vibrating machine to loosen up the muscles, then cracks my back or neck.
I rarely have pain anymore. When I feel my back going out on me or my neck hurting, I immediately make an appointment, and I'm good as new within a treatment or two.
Can't beat the price, either. Go for it. Just find someone who graduated from the Palmer Institute. They're the best.
How about your husband tells the friend to tell his female friend to lose the #?

I take myself and my two boys (14 and 8) to the chiropractor every 4 weeks. It is just to keep us "tuned up". My kids notice a difference in themselves if we miss a month. They actually like going because it makes them feel so much better. I would be concerned about it if they are going every week though. If you are paying for it, you should have the right to ask about it.
I see a chiropractor every week...
He uses Dragon Dictate to dictate his notes. His notes are so repetitive that he says he doesn't need a transcriptionist. Plus he only charges $25 per patient, so it isn't as cost effective for him to use a Transcriptionist as it is for other doctors. He said that if he charged $150 per patient like other docs, he could justify the cost of a transcriptionist.
I talked to my chiropractor (sm)
and he said that new graduates (probably medical school ones also) are being told that Medicare/Medicaid won't pay for claims that aren't EMR genrated by 2014 and as early as 2009. Thus several new doctors are starting right off the bat with this type of program.
EMR is a fact of life, the touch screen programs are being touted highly for doctors who perform the same type of procedures over and over and several hospitals and large clinics are making the switch.
I woke up this morning and decided to go back to school and finish getting nursing degree. I don't think it's too far-fetched to be realistically concerned about MT being phased out.

started to go in December after a car accident, which did wonders to help my stiffness and pain from that.....the job though aggravated it a lot too. Was discharged in late April, and now I go using my insurance for $45 a pop (I pay $10 of it). I am going to keep going as it really helps me a lot after marathon weekends (I go on Monday morning my day off basically).
Quilified chiropractor. It's an alignment problem.

I went to a 92-yo 4ཇ female chiropractor and she was great (sm)
I have a history of back problems and had a slipped disk in my back, would sometimes get sciatica and definitely would need to walk with a cane, but after a few treatments, I would get fixed up by her. She would only charge $3 !!!!!! (back in the 70s) for treatment and took care of my sinus problems as well! Ah, the good old days.
Now I go to another one and he's just as good but I'm afraid he's going to retire soon. He charges $35. Three treatments and I'm back to normal. I look only for graduates of the Palmer School graduates as they still manipulate mostly without machines. He takes x-rays before working on you to make sure there is nothing really strange with the back.
I'm allergic to most steroids so I can't have injections and that would be my last resort anyway. Forget surgery unless it was a life-threatening situation.
Anyway, I believe most of the stuff they want to do nowadays is just a money rip-off to pad their pockets at the expense of the patient.
I have a great chiropractor who adjusts my wrist.
Might call some local DCs in your area and see if any of them do wrists/CPS. I'm currently lucky enough to have insurance that pays a small portion, but even without he only charges $45 for visit, which is well worth it to me.
Anyway, just another suggeston/idea for you.

A friend of a friend is taking CareerStep - sm
she is under the misguided idea that she will be making very good $ upon completing the course (a friend of hers supposedly makes $55K a year). I told her no way, at least not starting out and not unless all the factors click together, i.e. good typing speed, good pay (not for a newbie), good dictators (unlikely) and dedication to working hard. I told her what I make after 5 years (16K) but that is PT and I have the potential to double that if I would push myself, not procrastinate so much (I web surf way too much) and work more than I already do. I am not a fast typist but am good at what I do. I will be surprised if she follows though. She told me she'd call me when she finished the course, I just hope she is ready for reality.
A little help from my *friends*
I have been doing this for 36 years and I have used word expanders and normals for more than 20 years. It sure helps when you are typing *the patient* practically every paragraph. I just type tpt and viola...same with the headings, Review of Systems, etc. Every little bit helps. To those who dont use expanders and normals, just think how much more money you could be making and how less tired and sore you would be at the end of the day. *Long live the expanders*.

One of my friends did that...
for the exact same reason. However, their first ceremony was private, and they did not expect anyone to give them gifts for both weddings. But in your case, I would think a gift for the first wedding would be more helpful to them since they may not have all the things they need for their home together. I certainly would not feel the need to buy for both ceremonies.

And, I grew up with an English teacher for my mother, so I know what you mean. Always corrected but now I have a great grasp of the English language.
I'm not saying I want to be best friends with my supervisor,
I rarely take time off unless its an emergency, in fact its been a couple years, and not too long ago there was an emergency with my health. My supervisor only told me she needed me on working asap, did not inquire about my health, wish me well or to get better. Its just work work work...which seems kind of cold to me.
When I worked for a local office and knew them for years, as for favors, meaning i'll work my fingers to the bone, settle for getting no raises whatsoever, not complain, just give me work that i'm the most proficient at so we both win, like predominantly operative reports or maybe even psych.

I doubt you're getting raises and I doubt you use your money for "others" and you as well are a poor judge of character. This initial post was about supervisors interacting more with their MTs so we can put a face with the name and feel like we have someone in our corner, being that we are so remote from coworkers. Obviously, we disagree, lets agree to do that much. You just sit and type away and collect your paycheck.
Oh, I don't know. I've got way more friends now than ever before.
I know all the parents at the school. It's so funny. When I used to work fulltime outside the home, nobody ever waved to me at the schools and hardly anybody came to the kids' birthday parties. If I had a day off and picked up the kids at the school, I'd watch all the other parents talking together but was never included. Now I'm part of it all. I get invited to go to the gym and do coffee or lunch. It's great! I never had time for any of it before.
Going into medicine. I have 2 MT friends
who are already in medical school. One MT I worked with at a large hospital is now an anesthesiologist making about $300K a year. Hahaha Should I hope to do so well. Hahaha
Know 1 who is a psychotherapist now. Know 1 who got her MBA and works in government contracting and 1 who got his MS and works for JCAHO.
Lots of things to do out there! It's much easier to decide what you want to do now that you're experienced in life and know what the real investments and rewards are. I'd go on to commercial flight school if I weren't going into medicine. I have a private license. Would LOVE to be Lear certified! Would love to fly a medical helicopter. You can get funding for those flight programs, too! Not a traditional classroom setup. If I don't get into med school, I may be doing that! Hahaha

what if it these 2-3 couples that she invites over do not have family that they can visit during the holidays? that could be why she has them over every holiday.

that I know from different places, clubs included, but that doesn't mean that I'm having an affair with any of them...male or female! Before I was married my best friend and I went to a particular club to dance...it was great exercise and more fun than going to a gym. I made several friends there who are strictly friends. We were all single, enjoyed each other's company, and liked to dance...nothing nasty ever went on. In fact, many times my male friends made it easy to shake men whose attention I didn't want. Sometimes people go out just because it is more fun than watching TV. Hubby and I went to the club a couple of weeks ago and I introduced him to people that I knew there. I would hate to think that because I introduced him to people that he would think I'm having an affair. I don't know if I'd be more hurt because he didn't trust me, or because he thought I was dumb enough to take him someplace and introduce him to someone I would have an affair with!
I would also hate to think that my husband would search my cell phone and check the numbers he didn't recognize. My son is in the military and at times his friends have called because they consider me a second mom or are trying to get in touch with my son. Nevermind that just about everyone has had someone call their phone and it has been a wrong number!
If someone gave me a real reason to check up on them, I probably would, but to check up on someone 'just to be sure' is insulting. If someone I care about can't come to me and talk rationally about their fears, then we don't have much of a relationship!

I have friends who feel the same way
Not necessarily just MT friends, but in general. Some enjoy the independence of working for themselves. I on the other hand don't think I make a very good boss! I for some reason prefer mostly to be a cog in a machine. I'm glad there is something for everyone. Sometimes trying different ways helps a person figure out what is the best fit for them.

Having a BBQ and fireworks with the kids. Then we're having a big birthday party for a couple of people in the family.
For parents, what do you think of your kids' friends?
I am wondering if it's ME or if it's my kids' friends that's the problem. I just can't stand barely any of them. We have little sailors running around cussing, compulsive liars, thieves, two-faced "unfriends", blackmailers, anger management problems, slobs, and perverts running around here. And the violent and graphically disgusting games these kids try to play. Is this everywhere? Or am I just overly sensitive? Parents can't choose their kids' friends because the kids'll rebel against the control, right? I just feel like I can't have anyone over here because I'm constantly correcting them and cleaning up after them. They don't listen worth a darn anyway. I certainly don't want my kids to go to their houses if these kids behave this badly here.
I tried going into details, but this post got so long. I don't think it's our neighborhood either because we have to drive for playdates with some of these kids. What, do we just attract the people with issues? I try to tell myself that these are just kids or perhaps their home life isn't in line with the same value system as we have. I try to be tolerant because some of these kids have had problems in their lives. However, having problems is no excuse for bad behavior. I'm no perfect prude and neither are my kids. We've had our share of problems. I also know I can't "shelter" my kids from the outisde world. But geez, it's just ridiculous. Whatever happened to the days when parents were parents and kids behaved? Children should not be cussing, stealing and telling horrific stories of murder and incest.
To give you an example, one of these little punks even told the whole neighborhood that my husband and I were druggies and dealers. We found out about it when our elderly neighbor came over and told us. We've always been totally against drugs, not even experimenting with them when we were teens. Plus, we both have to go through yearly drug screening tests at work, too. What is with the world today?

I can relate. I was mom to my kids' friends, too. I swore many time to claim them as dependents on my tax returns. They practically lived at my house.
One of our friends' child just passed away.
What do you do for someone in this situation? I know to send a card and go to the service. I don't think flowers are a good idea because people send so many that it's just a hassle to find somewhere to put them until you have to throw them away. Money, a cooked meal? I spazzed out and didn't know what to say to them except we're here for you. I can't believe I got up this morning griping about my own situation when so many other people have so much that's worse.
