First, It's not possible for you to intimidate me from posting correct information, when I am sure of my facts, by calling me "know-it-all" or any other names for that matter, so don't waste your time with that.  It's childish and churlish.


Returning to the point:  Most people in rural areas (which, you'll remember, the OP is) do not have fiber nor any near-term prospect of getting it.  They're on copper wires, and usually pretty old copper at that.  What does matter - and the thing that MOST limits them from obtaining DSL - is exactly what I said it was, i.e. distance from a central office or switch. Fiber doesn't enter into the discussion for these people.  Of course, if they had a coupla $zillion, they could erect microwave relay towers back to town and get high-speed service that way, but I failed to mention that too for some reason.
