Michigan.  I live in Texas.  There is a clinic nearby me hiring MTs to work in house.  I went and interviewed yesterday.  When it came down to me asking her questions I found out that the in-house job was mainly editing speech recognition.  She out sources all the standard transcription work.  She has some ICs at home that do some things to.  I asked her if she was planning to do away with the MTSO and bring all the work in-house and hire locally.  She says her goal is to convert all files to the speech and do away with the MTSO. 

I just wished they would understand it would be better for the economy keep the money here and not outsource to places unknown.  When I worked in-house for a hospital, I referred several friends and family to the doctors I worked for, whom otherwise would have gone elsewhere.   Employees are the best advertisers there are.  Not everyone pays attention to billboards, TV ads, radio ads.  I usually tune it out myself if I am not interested in it.   The local hospitals are more capable of doing things that the locals don't know about so they drive elsewhere.  But I think they all see black and white. 

Get a full 8 hours of good sleep at night. 

Most people in the US, especially the female people in the US, do not get enough sleep.  We push, and push and push, and do for everyone...but not ourselves.  We stay up late trying to keep a nice house.  We cook meals, do the dishes and work.  Men don't get it.  ANY woman who works outside the home can tell you, we ALL work the second shift of housecleaning, childcare, cooking and laundry.  Men work one shift at the office and sit on their wide fat arses for the evening and complain about what they aren't getting.  Precious few will clean up in any way, shape or form.

OF COURSE you are tired and draggy at work.  Once I finally realized that I was overeating to compensate for being so very tired I looked at my fat behind and understood that sleep is more important than food.  I started insisting on 8 hours of sleep.  Guess what? I don't power nap at my desk anymore!  I have lost 40 lbs in a year and I am actually getting more done, at work and at home.

No amount of energy drink or caffeine makes up for sleep.

I have used with Word and Word Perfect.  I have used it with Meditech and Cerner.  I have used it with RadNet and StarNavigator for Radiology.  I can use it with my email applications and on the internet if I choose.  If the Expander is open and running, you can use it with any and every window program you use.

I was really simple to learn to use too.  Very user friendly.

I do have a CD drive so if I can buy WORD like you mention, I can load it.

Do you think it would be beneficial in the long run to invest in WORD (maybe buy it at BEST BUY or something) and load it on my computer?  I am going to be doing lots of work, so better to use as good a program as I can as far as being able to SAVE stuff - There will be lots of opportunities for macros (or saving paragraphs, etc).  Whatever the term is these days to mean:  saving lots of words, LOL.

There are accounts where you do the clinic notes (for office visits - H&Ps and consults) and also the acute care reports for that same doctor/doctors when they perform surgery or another in-hospital procedure.  Then you'll have the operative report as well as the discharge summary.  I love these accounts, as you follow the patient from initial diagnosis (sometimes after several office visits), through their hospital course, and then back to the office for followup. 

As far as knowing what type of work a company has - ask.  That is the best way to find out. 

typing in junior high and I can't believe I make my living typing.  I know it is more than typing, but ....   I had no MT training, no MT education, just kind of fell into it.  My very first day I did 667 lines.  I wasn't working in an office but in the MTSO's home office.  I didn't have an Expander at the time.  Now many years later (18) I can do 2700 lines/day on a good day, but 1800 to 2200 is my norm.   My typing speed increased, plus my terminology has increased so I'm not looking up a lot of stuff.  Between the 2 it has allowed me to increase my  lines. 

You really can't compare what you do to others because there are lots of factors.   How they count lines, the difficulty of the dictation, the platform, etc.

somebody here that's intelligent enough to tell the difference.  I wasn't looking for advice.  I just wanted to know if anyone else experienced anything similar.
