I am sure that emails to clients and emails to IC --sm
transcriptionists rank in two different categories. Emails to transcriptionists are probably much more frequent, the supervisors have alot more work to do than sending emails and are in a hurry. Perhaps concentrating on your own work instead of typos in an email would be more productive. which is more important?? geez. give others a break.
And here's where OSi sends low pay:
"Whether we think offshore labor is right or wrong, it has become a fact we cannot escape from. OSi will not actively pursue offshore labor contracts, but we have made the decision to experiment with using some offshore labor to save this large OSi client from going elsewhere. We believe this is the best decision for our employees assigned to this account and the company because this account is growing and we can assign the offshore part to the future increases and not have to reassign any OSi MTs. OSi is committed to continue using US MTs for the majority of their work and we will continue to resist going offshore."
The company I contract with always sends something....
MT week they usually give some thing cute with their logo, pens, note pads, mug, travel mug, a mouse pad, etc. Christmas most usually is a snack food in a tin, always yummy, cute and appreciated. :-)
One sends me work via Mydocsonline another - sm
just emails the sound files to me. Have access to FTP but they prefer to email it.
Transcription clerk.....
We don't have a "lead transcriptionist" at the hospital I type for. There is transcription clerk who handles the reports coming in, getting them filed and such, but our pools are set up either by our supervisor or whatever particular work type needs to be worked on. As an example, I get Preop H&P's, then H&P's, consults, discharges, ER notes and ops in that order. Basically, if that pool is empty, it will bring up next report in your next assigned pool. As I said earlier, you can interrupt a report ( on my C-phone it is 08) and you will get the next report, but then the one you interrupted will come up next. The person in charge of the dictation would have to assign it out to someone else to keep you from getting it. With a C-phone and the pools having been set up prior, you won't get a report that you should have to skip over.
way underpaid...you might as well be a clerk at 711...sm
Sorry to say and no offense to you personally, but any experienced MT accepting these wages is severely impacting this profession. If you owned a business, wouldn't you rather pay someone $8.50 an hour? This is disgraceful and an insult to any experienced MT. I have seen MTs work for this wage, but unfortunately 99% of them produce garbage, and then require someone paid at top wage to edit the report. EXPERIENCED MTs need to refuse these jobs, and let the companies hire someone who feels $8.50 an hour is a fair wage, and watch their clients drop like flies, or have an Editor fix everything. I've always said, there is no replacement for a multi-specialty experienced MT who works for a company and requires very little editing. You either know your stuff or you don't. If you know your stuff, you will make a profit for the company you work for. It's as simple as that. The companies who think that hiring ILPs and new MTs and paying them slave wages, will certainly be one of those companies that will not be in existent a few years down the road. Let's get real people!
Any company that sends you a Form 1099 has also
reported that income to the IRS, so it will have to be claimed by you. BUT, they only HAVE to issue a 1099 if they paid you more than $600. However, the first company you worked for might issue a 1099 anyway because they would want to deduct that 'labor' as an expense on their side. If you don't receive one from them by the end of the first week of Feb, I would call or email to find out if they are going to send one. Also, since this is your first experience as an IC, I would consult an accountant. There are so many more 'business' deductions that you can take to help eliminate some of that income. I am self-employed and my husband is self-employed and I am "in love" with my accountant. He works wonders!
Our church sends care packages....sm
Some of the things we send are:
Pretzels, chips like Pringles in a hard can, peppermint or hard candy, beef jerky, cheese crackers (the kind with cheese or peanut butter in them), the canisters of Oreos, Cheezits, etc.
If they have kitchen facilities or a microwave available to them: microwave popcorn, Ramen noodles in a cup, Cup of soup.
We also send word-search puzzle books, crossword puzzles, and perhaps some magazines that they might be interested in.
Hope this helps. :)
My hospital sends their work to a company
The reason this person is sticking up for the offshoring of American work is that she is one of the people taking our work away.
A girl who worked as a clerk in our
local hospital heard that I worked at home doing transcription. She called and asked me a bunch of questions of how I got into this. Of course, I answered all of her questions and added that if she was interested in doing transcription that she would need to go to our local community college and take some courses. She said she didn't need to go to school because "all you do is type what the doctors say, right?" To which I replied, "Yeah, that's all I do, just type what the doctor says," as a wave of disgust swept over me. She came over to the house and sat down to type. After about five words, with the deer in the headlights look on her face, she was astonished that "just type what the doctor says" is not all that easy! It was worth all the time trying to explain what transcription really entails.
Applied at a hospital for a clerk
20 years later, I'm an MT with three of my own accounts and IC for a company on-line.
I applied at the hospital and told them I had done transcription in high school for my medical secretary certificate, and the recruiter asked me if I'd like to work in Radiology as an MT. I said I wasn't very good at it and she said it pays $2.00 more an hour, and I said "Well then, let me give it a whirl!" I passed the typing test and have never looked back. I built up my knowledge by working for 17 years in a hospital in different departments. I went from Radiology to the Cath Lab to a diagnostics area.
I loved the challenge. The medical terms and stories interested me so much that I even wanted to be on the procedures so I could learn more. So, yes I wore lead and went in as an observer. If you ever want to gain experience, that is the best way! Be right there for the show! LOL
Update: I did not get that file clerk job
at the hospital. They just called and said they choose another applicant. They said they would like to keep my name on file in case they have another opening though. Oh well, guess it wasn't meant to be. It probably would not have paid much anyway.
love the art, sends heartbreaking message, still beautiful
No, corporate greed is what sends work overseas.
The only reason offshoring is alive is because our fellow Americans are too cheap to pay a living wage. They want their companies to show a greater profit and stock to go up.
I am an excellent MT. However, I can't make squat for money in this field because every single company I get on with sticks me with their lousiest accounts. I've learned seven new accounts in the past month between a small MTSO and a national. That's how it works. You do your best, QA scores reflect it, and they give you their garbage that nobody else will do.

desk clerk at a low-budget hotel -
I called in sick with the flu, and that night the place was robbed at gunpoint. I had never been so happy to be sick!
Try a search on Clerk of Courts website.
You might try searching on your Clerk of Courts website (if they have one). If he has been sued, it should be on there. If called as a witness probably not. Seems like if you are sued, though, or served to be a witness, they actually have a deputy come out and serve you in person. Could even be something like a parking ticket he didn't know he got. Let us know (if not real personal). Got me curious.
Was nurses aid, then aide in ICU, then ward clerk, then
MORE medical terms cuz halo the docs were professors, and they let me play PA under their supervision, then w/comp supervisor, then pregnant, then had to find a PMs job and landed in transcription dept as trainee. If I could meet their requirements, I stuck. If not, I was fired. I stuck.
Hospital Unit Coordinator/Clerk
Anyone know what this kind of job would be like? One of the local hospitals has a few of these positions open in various departments. I'm wondering if it's a high pressure/low pay kind of thing, if only because they seem to be hiring from the outside. When I worked for a bank many years ago, they hired "outsiders" only for the crap jobs. I'm tired of MT and want to explore my options.
To Administrators: LawScribe, one of your advertises sends all work Overseas! sm
Thought you'd want to know. I contacted them and was told they do not hire anyone local in the USA, and only hire overseas. How interesting? Since you don't support overseas coming and taking our jobs, I thought you'd be interested in knowing this, or maybe you already know?
Have a great day!
The clerk in the clearing area keyed the amount
and they can correct the mistake. Banks use large clearing houses. A clerk looks at the check and keys in the amount (it shows on the far right lower side on your check). They are human and they do make mistakes. I had one key in a check for $40 as $400 years ago. Bank was very apologetic and corrected and refunded everything.
I decided I did not want to be a file clerk for the rest of my life.....
I was hired in a 5 doc urology practice as a file clerk. And we all know that the file room is a toxic waste dump from people who have no idea what to do with whatever piece of paper they have. After working in the file room, the docs asked me if I would help out the other transcriptionist. (She was the only one at the time). Since I KNEW I wasn't cut out to be a file clerk, I said sure. So I filed part time, helped with transcription overload. We got a new peds urologist fresh from a Fellowship at Mayo Clinic so he was a really wordy type.
Long story short, he was so busy I was out of the file room for good, typing just for him as he saw lots of kids, and loving every minute of it. He moved to Arizona in the early 2000's, called me in 2006, and the rest, as they say, is history. He is still a peds urologist and I am still working for him. Everything is done over the Internet. No paper anywhere except what his office prints out.
He is one of the reasons I LOVE MY JOB.
InterPro often sends IMs to staff to NOT send feedback if they are "too busy" or there is too
:(
In 1990, when I started as a MR clerk, SMOKING was allowed in Med Records...
can you imagine, and with all the charts laying around...it is so comical now to think of it...
That lasted until about 1992 I think...
That is not all that long ago really, to go from electric typewriters to smoking being practically outlawed...
they say MT will change more in the next few years, than it has in the last 100>>>>!
I currently type for a doctor who dictates with a digital handheld and sends the files via e-mail fo
and wanted to be able to call me with his dictations. What would be the best and cheapest way for me to go so that he can do his dictations without the handheld unit?? I don't want to invest in a lot because he does not forget very often. This is the first time in three months. Thanks for any suggestions you may have.
When the kids started school I wanted a job in my home town. A hospital clerk position (sm)
came open. You started compiling charts, making copies, etc. Then I was promoted after a few months and began learning transcription and did that part of the day. Then a few months later they taught me coding and abstracting and I did that part of the day. It was a great learning experience to learn things from the bottom up. Needless to say, I am an old dog here who has been doing this more than 25 years now.

I don't get why you are getting these emails. sm
Do you give your email out? Do you buy stuff online? Do you have a firewall and a pop up blocker, etc.
I have an email address that very few people know through my ISP which is heavily protected. It rejects most attachments and even wouldn't let me open some pictures that my sister tried to send me.
I also have a Yahoo email that I barely ever use. If I do order something online, which is very rare, I give the company my Yahoo email address and then I will go there to check the status of my order.
I did this because I learned the hard way though. When I worked inhouse a few years back, the medication Levitra had just arrived on the market. I was transcribing, had no idea what it was and I Googled it. The hospital I worked at had no firewall protection, etc. and I got more emails than I can count on how to "enhance my male sexuality." It was so annoying!! I was a grandmother of 2 at the time.
Get a new email address, give it only to those that you want to hear from. Do not open attachments even if they are from your best friend, and dump the old address.
Yes, I kept all the emails....
Out of curiosity, on what grounds would an MTSO have to justify contacting any of my previous employers/MTSOs? I've been MTing at home for many years and I had no idea an MTSO would or could call other MTSOs and say things that are untrue.
I had thought about a lawsuit, but I'm afraid of her!
No, she is not at Seascript.
Emails
Yes, we started receiving emails of this nature addressed from our own email addresses before Christmas. I called my internet company and started sending them to their abuse address. I also started checking my mail through their port instead of my own email program for a while, still do X days a week. Also, they told me to run a good virus/spyware/malware program to see if I had a virus. I run McAfee, Spyblaster and downloaded Ad-aware. Spybot is a good program if it doesn't interfere with your virus program, it does with McAfee. Check out KimKomando.com. She talks about many free programs for different issues. Some information you can access, other you have to be a member. This mail has stopped for me.
Blank emails-me, too
I have always used Spybot and Adware SE, but read they sometimes miss things, so I just bought NoAdWare. Was I surprized at the stuff it found compared to the other ones (including Norton AntiVirus, and my server software)! I had 4 "dangerous" and 92 "severe" the very first day...that have been on my system for quite a while.
Since then, I have also been receiving blank emails. I'm now up to 5 every time I receive my mail. I've been getting a lot of junk mail all of a sudden and have no idea why. My favorites are winning the lotteries. If I believed them, I would have a bankroll of well over $100,000,000,000. The other ones where I am named in someone's will. Love it. Dream on.
Don't know what to say or what else to do about it without changing my email addess again, and I sure don't feel like doing that. I just did change it 3 months ago.
Generally no emails
As an IC at a small MTSO, if there is very low workloads, there is usually no email. I thought this was strange myself, since if it was my company, I would be keeping my people closely updated and thinking about them and their needs and anticipating their questions and concerns. I would have to take the initiative to email asking "is there anything wrong?" or "is something the matter with such-and-such account?" or "is there a technical problem somewhere?" I would then get an email answering my question. I think it is impolite and unprofessional for a business not to keep their people closely posted and put them first.
PS - the other emails are horrendous

stupid emails!
Does anybody know how to keep these ridiculous emails from coming? It seems like every day I'm getting more and more of them, you know, the ones that have absolute nonsense in the subject line? I don't read them, just delete them, but I must get 15 or 20 a day and I'm sick and tired of it. I feel like my privacy is being invaded, and it is just junk filling up my mailbox.
stupid emails
Okay then, again, thanks very much for your help. I am going to check this out because at this point I'll try anything to stop the insanity! It's just crazy the stupid, stupid stuff people send via email to clog up the mailboxes. I wonder, does anybody even READ this junk? And better yet, does anybody ever BUY stuff from this spam email? Sorry, I just get carried away with this subject; it's a true thorn in my side. Again, I thank you.
Yes, they can read the emails. nm

Maybe the *other* board is where the emails came from : )

Saving sent emails,,sm
saving sent emails may sound like a good idea, but that is taking up storage space in the email box. I don't know how much quota your email service provides, but mine is not that much, and I have business class. Your sent box is counted as part of your quota, as well, so it would not be advisable to store a months worth of sent emails, particularly with attached files. perhaps she should look into using an FTP site where you could store the files in My Documents and then just send via ftp, which is a whole lot faster than email and it is encrypted for transfer. suggest it to her. and then start charging her for time spent resending files. That is her job, not yours. my boss occasionally will ask for an individual file to be resent, but never a whole months worth. maybe you should also start looking for different employment. I could not work for someone who got mad at me for something she did. sorry. JMO.
She stated they were using them in emails,

lewd emails
Yes, I got a bunch of those. It came from a site that was sending me emails on panic disordewhich was totally unrelated to such things. The person who operated the panic attack site was very apologetic, she had been victimized by the viagra peddlers and unwittingly passed it on to her subscribers. My computer did not get the virus and I set spam filters to reject anything with Viagra, Cialis, Levitra and now the problem is almost gone. They do go in spam folder on AOL and I look there occasionally to be sure that some of my good email hasn't been accidently put there. Looking at the subject lines sometimes makes me laugh. these sex pill vendors are either semi literate and/or foreigners.
Check your emails! nm

Just was looking at another MT site and MTs from MQ are talking about getting emails from the
supervisor threatening them to hire more MTs if the accounts arent kept in TAT and they are sitting there with no work. I think MQ must be so desperate anymore that they are losing their minds. They must work for Amherst also. They keep hiring and hiring and if the weekend has one report out of TAT they hire more people. These companies are losing it I am afraid. I wonder if MQ is losing more accounts that they are doing this.
emails for action plan
and now they send out emails wanting to know our action plan for wkends, whether we are working, so they are cvd. no extra $$, just remind you to "get the lines while you can"
Your emails don't make sense
There are scam emails that claim to come from
Gotta be careful.
I tried that out once...WAY too many emails...DROVE ME NUTS!!!

I just use Outlook Express, so my emails - sm
our stored on my computer (40GB), so in my case it is not an issue. If the OP sends her emails the same, then she can easily save the work emails unless she has a very old computer with no substantial hard drive.
keep track of emails; keep producing; it's all you can do.

I'm 45 and have done all types (sm)
of transcription. I did formal training for MT in 1998, after my training I was doing pretty well. Now that I am getting nothing but leftover, terrible dictators doing medical transcription, I make more money doing general transcription.
NOT planning on taking on anymore medical dictation since the offshoring got going. It has been a nightmare to find decent accounts, companies and decent dictators in the last year or so.
How come whenever someone types a lot of
lines in a day it is considered cherrypicking? I just finished my shift for the day and had 3897 lines. Did I cherrypick? No! I can't see what work I'm getting until it shows up on my screen. I worked a total of 11 hours with my 3 breaks figured in. Yes, I did work 2 hours OT but they asked for OT so I sat and worked. I can work steadily for 3-4 hours and then get up and stretch. I had no normals except the ones that I put in myself for the doctors. I've been doing the same accounts for about 8 years and have tons of "normals" for a lot of the doctors. Once in a while they will change their wording to throw you off course. The only doctors that slow me down nowadays are the new residents who must talk for no less than 30 minutes for each patient. Out of the 132 charts I transcribed, I had about 65% ESLs. Just because some people type a lot of lines in a day does not mean that they are a cherrypicker.
That's one of the things I hate about some nationals. You should NOT be allowed to see the other line counts of your fellow workers because all these accusations happens. If you see someone with a constantly high line count, you automatically assume they are getting all the "good" doctors when it is not the case with a lot of people. It may be true in some cases but you're lumping everyone with a high line count into one group.
There are these types in QA and in MT, too.
