No end in sight for outsourcing
I believe some of the accounts will come back state side, but the outsource offshoring will continue - no end in sight. To look at the bigger picture, our healthcare system is in a mess with no solutions actively being worked on. As monies become tighter in the future and if nothing is being done about fixing our healthcare mess, the motivation is strong for financial officers to send more work offshore because of the cheap labor. Some hospitals now accept offshoring as a solution and when the hospitals themselves directly use this service, well, not much hope to keep the work state side. I believe there are some facilities that will not accept inferior work from any one, state side or otherwise, but I am also seeing that some hospitals WILL accept inferior work motivated by the cheap price. This is happening across all sectors of business in this country. More than 50% of IT jobs are now in India and China with no end in sight. More and more business are trying to find ways to dump their benefits - #1 is health insurance and this affects all of us as more and more people are going without health insurance.
Keep the bills out of sight--sm
For me they are the biggest distraction. I can ignore the phone, tune out the noise but those stinking bills in my line of sight are the worst. I either have to go online and pay them or call so and so and tell them why I am late. I don't pull them out until after I am done or before I start. Otherwise, they stay in the drawer. Now, I keep the paid receipts on top of the desk to remind me why I work like a mule!
Love at first sight?
Hey - I know this is the wrong board for this but if anyone would switch over to emotion/depression and/or chit chat I'd like your opinion. Thanks
Ya'll want to see a sight? Get a look at this poor

guy! OMG!

I don't think I am in a light of sight for cell towers either. sm
They pick up signals within distances like cell phones do. I don't think a direct line of site is needed period like it is with satellite. With satellite, you have the big dish that is placed on your house and it beams the satellites in space to get your signals. With wireless it gets signals from the towers. You have nothing but you wireless network card or USB plug that picks up the signal from the tower. No big, ugly dish around on my home.

If you can only occasionally get a cell signal, it might not be the best option for you. Do you know anyone around that has wireless? My brother had it and came to my home with his laptop to show me how it worked and that is when I choose to get it. I like that I can now also travel and pick up signals rather than be limited to one location with the satellite on my home also. No need to worry if a hotel has wireless or not as I have it. I would figure out who the best cell phone company provider is in your area and contact them. Tell them specifically your location, your situation with iffy cell signals and see what they suggest. Like I said mine had the 30-day money back guarantee so I knew I could go that route if I saw it wasn't getting good signals for me. All the major cell companies have wireless now, but your best bet is who has the most towers in your area. I am thinking there is a website that shows cell towers and locations, maybe research it? Cannot recall right now, but I have seen it before. Just contact the company in your area and tell them to explain their wireless INTERNET plans to you.
Hell, I didn't let my kids out of my sight in the 1980s!
Freaks and loonies didn't just crawl out of the woodwork recently.
Love at first sight on the Long Island RailRoad
On the Long Island Railroad, traveling to Greenwich Village for the day and he traveling to a concert in Queens, NY.  The instant I looked at his face and he talked to me and sat across from me on the train, I knew we would make history together, I knew something was gonna happen between us.  He got off the train, I continued on to Greenwich Village, NYC..didnt get his number, nor he mine.  Four months later I was driving into my apartment parking lot and he was driving behind me, said he recognized me from my sunglasses as I looked in the rear view mirror.  He asked for my phone number and the rest is history..It was truly love at first sight..
it's TASTE. You have lost sight of the original concept of the posts.
i'm not doing an ethical evaluation on why i am drawn to toby keith or if he may be gay or rock hudson's qualities if he was gay or jude law.  it is just the type of guy women are drawn to and why.  shallow has nothing to do with the discussion.  but you aren't paying attention are you?
It's called DLS for direct-line-of-sight...mountains could be a problem...sm
I have wireless but hold a direct line of sight to tower only 1 mile away. Mountains could block signal. The only way you could know would be to take the laptop there and see if the signal holds. Are there any neighbors there that might be using it too? That's your best "test." Ignore poster below who talks about router. The initial signal is sent from the tower TO your router, router takes care of wireless internet INSIDE house, not outside. If you do go wireless router inside house, buy one with a speed booster. I have connects of 100.0 mbps routinely.
Achy legs

For the past couple of days my legs have been aching nonstop.  I walk 30 minutes per day for exercise and make sure to take breaks and get up out of the chair.  I don't know what is going on but it is really driving me nuts.  It makes it very hard to sit here and push this pedal.  I'm hoping it will go away in a day or so, hopefully as quickly as it started.

Anyone else have this problem?

Achy legs
Hi: Yes, I also have achy legs, sciatica, lower back, restless legs, fibromyalgia. I have been an MT for 30 plus years. I was told best thing to do is get up every 20 minutes and walk around, shrug shoulders, pendulum swings of arms, etc. I would advise you to see your PCP or orthopedic doctor also - they may be able to help you. Maybe it is the 30 minutes per day walking that makes your legs ache? Mine do with the fibro, so limit it to 15 minutes. Do you sit in a good chair, with pressure off the top of your legs? I was told that is important also. Hope you feel better, achy legs/body/neck/shoulders, all seem to come with this type of job.
Think about never shaving your legs ever again.
I like them. I'd never wash my hair. I'd gain 100#. No one would ever know.
I can put my legs (one at a time, of course) right up to my head
Never was a gymnast or a ballet dancer or athletic, and I'm DEFINITELY not a fatty.

But I don't transcribe at my desk with my leg up to my head :)

legs get kinda numb ???
Does anyone else experience this?  After sitting at my 'puter and transcribing, my legs feel like they are asleep.  Not really pain but numb.  It does not necessarily happen after long periods of typing.  It can be after just an hour or two?  What causes this and what can I do about it?  Or is it even related to sitting in a chair all day?
LOL @ both legs! I remember those days!

Easy exercises, mainly for legs/

Walk a dog, or just yourself, a few times a day, whenever you can. I have legs like rock even

It's payback for bragging about yer legs to us fatties!

LOL just teasing

It's the "snap, crackle and pop" of mother nature playing mean games on all of us

My 10 yo dog has lost ability to use hind legs

She was put under anesthesia to have a large mass removed from her chest.  What I thought might be a malignant lump turned out to be lipoma.  She had hip dysplasia all her life and was arthritic but never thought she would lose use of hind legs.  Surgery was today.  Picked her up at 5:00 and now, 4 hours later, I am truly concerned.  She is a weinaraner.  I am to give her 10 mg of prednisone daily.

Geesh, I wondered why the vet didn't bring the dog with her when she talked to me.  And when we discussed surgery, I mentioend that anesthesia was hard on senior dogs (it was hard on me and I am healthy adult).

Just wondering here if she will recover.  Maybe smeone here knows something about this.  Thank you

I used to until i read somewhere that being anemic would cause achy legs. sm
i would get them severely in the late afternoon/evening no matter what i tried, especially bad when working or driving. i was thinking i needed to see doc for restless leg syndrome and then i researched and read the above, which i was anemic as i tried to donate blood shortly before this and was denied due to being anemic. i bought me some OTC iron, took 2 q.d., and no more achy legs as long as i stay on my iron.
Swollen legs & ankles - suggestions? (sm)
Does anyone else have a problem with leg and ankle swelling from sitting in the same position all day?  Mine is worse than ever lately.  Any suggestions of getting rid of and preventing this from happening again?
Yes. My legs would get so tight and my feet and ankles

swell horribly.  I have to loosen the shoestrings on my tennis shoes to get them on, but if I'm up moving around the swelling goes down and then I have to tighten the strings.   As someone else said cut back on salt - I use salt substitute but it still isn't good in large amounts, and move around a few minutes every couple of hours.

This is not abnormal and does come from sitting so much and I've known lots of MTs with the same issue.

Nope, not me. I'd rather shave my legs, stay at a

In the meanwhile, make a harness to support his back legs when you take him outside (sm)
Use a long thin beach towel as the harness underneath his rear legs and the ends of the towel as your handle. I had to do this as part of therapy for my senior. Also massage the legs.
Legs.....I move around for 5 minutes every hour, no matter what. nm
:)
Oh there are placenta eaters everywhere, with hairy legs and armpits SM
and breast-feeding their kids till they're five. I didn't know John ate a placenta. That's gross to me. But you can't deny what his message was and I don't see how you could find fault with it because he wasn't just like you.
My back and legs hurt my entire shift ! n/m

Thanks for letting us know he's OK.
That's good news. I will put his name on the prayer list at our church. I hope he is soon able to get back on his feet.
I'm just letting you know that they are
not as expensive as you were making them out to be. The big bags cost that much, not a regular purse, and I am not talking knock offs. I am not disagreeing with you though. Most all of these people have been poor their whole life. If you think that every one of them will take that $2000 and only spend in on things that they need, then you are disillusioned. To be honest with you, I am surprised more people have not wasted it on unnecessary items.
Thanks for letting us know about this.
These deals are great!  I just requested a catalog.  I will check this site before I buy software ever again.
OMG! Thanks so much for letting me know!

Thanks for letting me know!
That's pretty much what I have wound up doing, too bad they couldn't come up with a better way to do that to make it easier, but at least I know that it's not just me!! I'm definitely not use to the automatic numbering that Word does. Fortunately not many of my docs do this subset thing, but there are a couple, and one that even dictates i. ii. iii. under a.b.c., that almost had me pulling my hair out trying to get those lined up!
Thank you for letting us know.
I was one who posted trying to help. I'm glad to know that you were finally able to get it to work; you're information may also be helpful to someone else in the future with a similar problem.
Thank you, for letting me know I am not the only one...
doing this quickly so I do not get the 'boot' again!
Johnny Depp makes my legs go weak - Yummy!

Mind is willing to work but legs and back aren't cooperating.
Any cures for MT body aches?
yeay, can't wait to see the pic. my legs swell horribly at my desk NM
.
I stopped letting them do that.
Too many times they had inexperienced techs who messed everything up.  Once my computer crashed because of what they did.  Another time, another company, they deleted a program and nothing would work right.  Just because they say they are a computer tech does not mean they know anything.  Many do not even have a certificate, just a litle on the job training.
Thanks for letting me know there are people out there

on both sides of the fence.  Yeah, I know the consequences and the possiblities.  I live with them every day.  I guess I have not been as good a planner as many of you have been.  It kind of snow-balled me before I could get a grip on it.  I think not having a good tax guy for 10 years did not help.  But any solutions to getting out of debt with the IRS would be greatly appreciated.  Like they say Two things are for sure, death and taxes.  No way around either.  I have heard that some people cheat the goverment every year with not reporting income and stuff and never have to pay nothing because they make a living under the table.  The penaty I get for reporting and filing and having a husband that works a good job is garnished wages and liens.  No one wants to work out payment plans that you can live with.

I don't mind letting one use it but....nm

sounds like you are letting them run over you. sm
you are going to have to stand up and say look in order to keep those accts, keep work flowing to you, and money to all of us, we have to meet our requirements. the more you let them lax, the more they will do it. no one likes to be ridden either, but at some point you have to say something or it will only get worse. maybe start pulling some of their work from their assigned acct and giving it to those one or two who are productive on thurs/fri and the others will get the hint to get their work done or you will get someone else to do it.
You did take off from work, without letting anyone know
You flew out of town and now something does not work? If I were them, I would be upset without a notice. You do not sound responsible because if you were, you would have thought out about your work before leaving unless a dire emergency and then you probably would have notified your company.
Just letting you know what I found
This site is very reliable. Luckily I barely use my cell phone so hopefully if it true I won't be effected.
There is nothing lost by letting them know

We are all human.

If they take you back, then give it a while before looking for a new position, and then when you leave the next time, you'll know to have it all in place before giving your notice.  Don't fall for these "must start right away" advertisements for jobs.  They are a buncha you know what.  All companies have at least one MT to cover until they find a new hire.  Nothing happens overnight!

Your other option would be to start applying and testing with other companies.  I remember Transcend being really quick to get me equipment when I worked for them.  Another idea would be to post your resume here and you may get offers if you haven't already done so.  Oh gosh, I feel so bad for you.  Please let us know how you make out.  What a pickle; but you can still transcribe, so you should be okay as long as you can pick up something really soon.

DANSKOS, but when any part of my legs starts hurting, I immediately do several leg stretches
fixes them right away. One thing though, you have to get a pair of really good shoes now - my daughter-in-law got me a pair of Danskos because she wears them (on her feet all day as an ICU nurse) - that was five years ago - they made a tremendous difference and now I wouldn't wear any others. There are other good shoes out there and you DO have to pay for them, but it's worth it.

My problem now is my back up between the shoulder blades - the only thing that helps there is to stop typing and apply heat. Right elbow is usually achy too, but that goes away when I rest it.

Wish I had a hot tub.

Good luck to you.
Its the MQ way. I have my way of letting them know I know they are lying. I hate being BS around.
:
I'm gonna do all of them! Thanks for letting me vent!
:-)
Try covering with mayonaise and letting sit...
for a few hours/over night; then wipe off.
More surprising is what the parents are letting them do. sm

My daughter is in 6th grade.  There is a girl in her class who is ELEVEN years old.  Now keep the age in mind for a minute here.

This 11-year-old girl has piercings in one eyebrow, one side of her nose, her bottom lip, her tongue AND her belly button.  Both ears are also pierced all the way around with about 12 studs in each ear.  She wears full makeup and tight, low slung jeans. She told my daughter that she is getting a tattoo for her 13th birthday.

Sort of a "teenage right of passage" so to speak?  After all her parents have pretty much run out of things to give her permission to do.

I've met the "parents" and it's obvious that the apple doesn't fall to far from the tree.

Shall I suggest a uvula piercing for her big 13th?
