In my experience, every company I have worked has only edited
reports that I send to them with blanks or questions, which is probably less than 5%. From reading these boards, I get the impression most of the work from India needs to be edited. So you would think if it needs so much editing, it would not worth it. But maybe not. Who knows - we'll just have to see. If doctors complain about the quality that would probably slow the offshoring down.
My experience with quality/quantity and an Indian owned company.
I worked for an offshore owned company where it was all about quantity. Company even kept a HORRIBLE MT just because she cranked out the lines. Didn't matter her quality was crap and was considered a joke by middle managment. India did most typing but with US edit. Typists changed regularly so it wasn't like they learned to do better. Quality would improve slightly and then would notice, after couple of months, that quality was crap again so we knew we were dealing with a new batch of typists. Even so, the push was always on to get the jobs off US edit and send Indian work straight to client. Of course, the clients never knew they were not getting US editing anymore, as they got no price reduction when they no longer had that level of work being done on their jobs. The problem is the facilities accept the crap work so why should the companies change. It took a while but I finally found a US owned company where quality matters. Now one of the first questions I would ask a prospective employer is if they are US owned.

They are both identical, polite and too exact and to me sounded like it was someone attempting to appear to be American. Maybe I am a skeptic but that is my gut feeling.

But, it is like I traded 1 problem for another. I did feel like I was being jilted. They never gave raises, they never delivered what was promised, they played favorites, but the money was better than what I am making now. I had to dip out of my retirement account to pay off some bills. I just couldn't make the monthly payments anymore. I am still not able to get health insurance. I just cannot afford it. Sometimes, I wonder if I should not have taken the heat and stayed. I talked to my ex supe today and it almost made me ill, so I won't go back. I did not even ask.

you gave for "walking away from the rat race." I don't buy it. I've had tough times in my life too, probably as tough as yours. It's your choice. You can either work harder and refuse to accept crap for yourself or you can get angry and bitter, which is what you've apparently done. If you're talking about turning in soda bottles for deposits, people are naturally going to deduct from that that you are or have been poor. You said it, I didn't. So if you choose to "give up," that's up to you. I chose to make something of myself nomatter what or how long it took. Read Plato's "The Republic." It's the difference between Gold, Silver and Bronze.

Brings back memories! I had a computer fan that sounded like a mini helicopter! Kept
calling my company and having them "listen". They weren't concerned. It did actually blow up one day - a little mini "poof" of fire, 2 seconds of light smelly smoke, and she was dead!! A goner! Never heard it before, never heard it after, but one did make noise and it died a month later!

Experience on top, current experience first. Education second. Leave out ALL fluff.
Recruiters don't need your life story. They need to know if you can do the job. If you want, put your current employer, then state "I have 20 years in the profession doing....." Keep it simple; keep it clean. If you want to go into more detail, do it during the interview. A HUGE red flag is to see that you've worked for 10 different companies, for months at a time. I know that someone who has worked for the same company for 2 years or more is going to have some degree of loyalty and will work through issues rather than cut and run.

Accepted a job with a new company, gave two weeks notice to my old company..
Old company, let me go before two weeks was up. New company, said they were having trouble getting me set up and my equipment ready, but they would pay me while I waited. It's been a month, still no check from new company even though I was told it was "in the mail." I have no income and am at a loss.
I have a signed offer letter from the new company, contracts, etc. I applied for unemployment, but old company is saying I quit and technically I am currently employed with the new company! New company is not returning calls or answering email.
What should I do!?!?!?!
I started sending my resume out today, but the process of getting a new job will take at least two weeks and I need money now to catch up on what I'm behind!
You don't want to work for this company. Call your current company and
tell them that you have decided against the new position and tell them that you would like to stay. It is cheaper for them to let you stay than to train someone new. A company who could be so tacky as the one you just spoke of is one you do not want to work for. You can rescind your resignation. If you are a good MT, they will be glad you did.
With my company, ICs use their own emails, employees have company email.

Local radiology company, not transcription company
who has only 5 transcriptionists and are not hiring at this moment. We all work at home and get great benefits, no insurance out of pocket and 22 days paid vacation in the first year, after that it goes up. I feel very fortunate to have found them, but again I chose them because they did not do production, so now that they are, I'm a little disappointed.
I think it varies greatly from company to company...sm
I was hired five months ago by a national straight out of school at 8 cpl. I think it just depends on your knowledge level and ability, and of course, what the company is willing to pay.

I have my own company email with my new company.
I can't answer your questions in your original post, I can tell you that with my new company, I have my own company email account, and I much prefer it. My old company had us use our personal email accounts, and they listed everyone who received emails in the cc line. They really never maintained those lists, and I received emails from them for a full five months after I quit - that despite my repeatedly asking to be removed from lists. Because the list had been passed from one person to the next in the company, I kept having to block sender after sender. Finally I replied to all, for each and every email I had gotten over a month's time. Well, that pretty much ended it.
I like to keep work and personal separate as much as possible.
It can vary from company to company.
If a company is on one coast and you on the other it can affect shift time, meaning usually if you want to start work 9-10 instead of 11 you could for 3rd shift, etc.

some of what you want to know varies from company to company,
client to client. The services each have their own QA grading system and you will get a copy at hire that tells you everything they deduct, and for how many points. This usually also includes formatting, such as wrong dates, right exam/wrong patient, etc.
You will need to know your punctuation and grammar first and foremost and use it properly, this is what you do. THEN if the client requests garbage in/garbage out (usually because they don't trust leaving anything up to us), you give it to them even though it hurts -- and should not be marked off QA for it.
Where do you study? Colleges with the 2 yr transcription course in my state make you take a year (or 2) of English grammar. No offense, but it's pretty much a 5th/6th grade review (is vs are, doctors' vs doctor's).
blanks will be limited, usually to 2, before you cannot send the report to client.

My first company I chose specifically because I knew they had a mentoring program and you had 12 weeks of "mentoring" to get up to speed. The training was very thorough. The first week was all training classes. There were very limited samples (1-2 per doc if at all). I worked there 6 months and never made their production quota, but they didn't care. When I asked my account manager about it, she said they knew the account was very difficult 95+% ESLs) and she wasn't worried about my production, that I was doing well.
I have also worked with companies that just did a training over the phone (usually about an hour) just to learn the platform. Then they did full QA for a day or two and then I was on my own. For both of these companies, I could review all the past reports of the doctors on the platform. That was really nice. I didn't have production requirements with these positions, just a daily schedule that I had to stick to. They just wanted to know when I would be working.
My recent company gave me a 10-minute training over the phone and gave me a couple of samples of a couple of the harder docs. I then had to submit 3 reports to the account manager to review, and then I was off on my own and was required to meet production immediately.
So it all depends. Each company is different. Good luck on the new job!

ratio is about 3 to 4 on a large hospital account doing all specialities and report types. I think it would be closer to 2 or 3 with clinic work.

allow the company to access my computer by clicking on an icon on my desktop. After they were done, I had to click "out" of the program, thus they cannot access my computer unless I give them my "permission" by accessing the program on my end! Does that make sense?

I had such an experience
It was years ago but I woke up laying on my stomach with head turned to the side and arm up by my head, couldn't move then saw a transparent arm coming back down into my arm and when it was completely fused with my arm I could suddenly move. It was very weird, scared the crap out of me, but in later years read about what actually happened and like you said, my spirit body wasn't quite back into me yet when I woke up - astral travel, yes. We all do that when we sleep.

I personally found many of the Texas hospitals had a lot of ESLs. My two primary accounts were in Missouri and Washington State and there were very few ESLs. The platform I was on was not difficult (TWS I believe it was called).

I had a very hard time trying to understand the guy trying to train me. He would tell me he would call at a certain time and he wouldn't. It would be the next day or 2 hours later than what he said. Told me you have to work until the jobs are cleaned out of system. I don't think so!!!!!

The most I have made working for another service was 11 cents per gross line. That was 3 years ago and that company sold, I couldn't work for them anymore anyway.
Now I am ALWAYS offered 8 cents per line when looking for part-time. I think this is low, considering they charge 14 or so and want to see perfect documents and never proofread. Truly, I think that is a total ripoff. No benefits either.
