Nothing wrong with saying "new hires" sm

You "hire" a plumber, even though it's not your "employee," so I see no problem with someone saying an IC was a "new hire." The word hire means to engage for service under term of contract - that doesn't cross any line, IMHO.
Yes, the MTSO you contract with can be considered your client. All ICs are self employed, so yes, you are your own boss. However, the client is still your "boss," in the sense that they do have the control of your workflow. IOW, if you don't meet their expectations, they can choose not to use you anymore and find someone else who will. Be cautious how far you take that "not-my-boss" attitude because it can backfire on you is all I'm saying.
As far as stating your rates, absolutely. You can tell the MTSO what you charge as an IC. The MTSO also has the option of saying no thanks. Just like if a plumber charges more than what you are willing to pay, you can move on to the next plumber. If the MTSO tells you what they are willing to pay and it's not what you desire, you have the option to say no thanks, too. However, I do not think an MTSO is crossing any line by saying "this is what we are willing to pay." If you go to a physician's office, they are going to do the same and tell you what they are willing to pay. You absolutely have the right to say "Well, this is what I charge," and they can then decide if they want to continue to do business with you or find another service that is within their price range.

I do. It's the "new way" I think. I've been doing it for years. SM
I have a macro that goes back and double checks for two spaces and changes them to one.
Then I have another (for an old-timey account) that goes back and finds period space space and exchanges it for period space.
That way I don't have to remember.
Did you try rebooting to see if it would recognize "new...sm
hardware?" Sometimes that will work if there is no driver to install. Hope this helps!
some people think it means "new message" and
go ahead though
Good point about their "new tools".
By the way, I'm emailing and don't have to print them. Thanks everyone!
On job board "New World Trans" ...I am wondering
firstly what kind of company they are when they cannot spell the word "pedal" correctly and also 7 cents CAD??? What is the CAD? Something fishy about his ad.
The "New Enlightenment, a Journal of Social and Metaphysical Inquiry?"
Could you please find a source that is more reliable than a bunch of loons espousing conspiracy theories? Then I'll listen.
While we're waiting, I'm going to save this site for when I need a little entertainment. Thanks! Really!
wrong, wrong, wrong. work is being outsourced because of $. period. not because of unqualified MTs

Sorry this is for MQ new hires.

Amphion hires PT. nm
newbie hires
Listen, I don't know if this is going to help, but it is worth a try. I used to work for this company called TSI which is Transcription South, Inc here in Clearwater. I am a FL MT. The only reason I quit them was because they got into a bad partnership with a big nation company and ran out of work, and the big company renigned on their part of the partnership (and I am not allowed to say the other company), but that was a long time ago, and it was not TSI's fault. Otherwise, TSI is a good company. They have a website. (Transcription South, Inc, Clearwater, FL. What I am telling you is that the owner of the company used to take on newbies and his wife is a CMT. They run the company as husband and wife and they have family members working there. They used to have a mentoring program for newbies, His wife (a CMT) is active in the company as well as AAMT. She is wonderful; she takes in newbies. When I was with them, I transcribed, did QA and mentored newbies also. It is worth a try. It is a wonderful company and family operated. You can e-mail me and I will do what I can to help you. There are no guarantees, but I will help you all I can.
Who Hires M-Tec grads?
I just finished my coursework at M-TEC. I can't wait for my test to be graded...and I'm itching to find a job. Before my test, I was 95%. I'm wondering if anyone knows what companies routinly hire from M-Tec so I can go looking now and not have to wait till I am able to access the COC on M-TEC's website?
Our company never, ever hires
They only hire for MT positions. One test and a few interviews are not really enough to assure that someone applying for a QA position has the skills and knowledge to hit the ground running on multiple accounts. I have seen applicants that previously held QA positions for other companies and professed to have immense amount of knowledge in a wide variety of specialties and acute be completely unable to pass audits as an MT on accounts that are not at all difficult. Also, QA personnel has to become familiar with the intricacies of each account and the individual dictators, not just the account guidelines. The best way to do that is to transcribe on the account or accounts that you will QA for. It is also the best way to judge whether the knowledge and skill you profess to possess is as thorough as you think it is.
That said, the people hired for an MT-to-QA opportunity who prove to be qualified usually spend less than 2 weeks working as an MT before moving to a strictly QA position.
Amphion hires coders, too.
Don't know about the prospects of looking for a job. I don't know how much you make doing transcription of what you consider similar. I think coders probably start out in the mid-20s per year up to 40s with some experience. There are not as many billing jobs at home as there are remote coding opportunities. Hope that helps.
the manager hires three monkeys to do your job
True - although when an employer hires
someone with the understanding that we work holidays and that person then refuses, that's really dishonest on the employee's part.
I know several MTs who were hired on with the company that I work for, got set up, worked a few weeks or months, then when the holidays roll around they say that the employer KNEW that they would not work holidays or, in a few cases, weekends.
I completely write them off at that point. I don't offer them help anymore, NOTHING. That's playing dirty if you ask me.
The employer is put on the spot, has gone to the expense of setting them up at home, all of it, then to have the employee refuse to work any further holidays or weekends. Just dirty.
What really burns me is when someone makes the comment (more like whining) that they have kids at home and don't want to work when the kids are home. Spring break, Christmas, Thanksgiving...
As if NONE of the rest of us do!
Then these same people are the first ones to jump on board on their scheduled days off when an incentive is offered and completely drain the work from those of us who were already scheduled to work that day.
Who hires with 2 years' experience?
I want to get back into MT work, but everything seems to be acute care/hospital dictation. I have some experience in that area but not 2-3 years' worth. Anyone have ideas?
I believe TT hires part time. Try them.

Ad for new hires 2 weeks ago, no work last week or this :(
No work for basically 2 weeks on either my main account or backup. Can't help but wonder how many new hires have plenty. I've been sitting here with absolutely nothin' for nearly 10 days and even tried on the weekend. I love the account, but a girl's gotta eat!
Anybody else, or just my accounts?
Diskriter only hires FULL TIME - sorry
no message
I believe fantastic transcripts only hires locals - sm
But I am not sure. If that is the company out in Burbank/LA - I thought they only hire within 30 minutes of the area. I could be wrong.
Ascend is Idian owned and hires newbies -
NM
I am extremely curious as to what new hires do when they find out they have not work. Do they quit,
do they get transferred, what happens to them.
I don't know of any store in my area that hires people full-time.
That includes Walmart, K-mart, grocery stores, etc. So I guess it's all slave labor. In fact, any transcription company that does not hire employees must also be the same. They certainly save themselves a lot of money under the guise of Independent Contractors, don't they?
Softscript hires people with satellite, Vista and your experience. sm
I will not argue with anyone over this, but here is my 2 cents. I have been with SoftScript for a pretty good length of time. They are overall a good company. I know in the past there has been management problems, but that has been solved for many, many months. If you want to, give them a try.
Focus Infomatics hires transcriptionists with NO experience on the Escription platform? Anyone else

I typed a report on the wrong patient as the doc keyed in the wrong info, SM
He later said the correct patient's name and I SWEAR to this day I made the changes but somehow the report when through without the correct patient and changes made. I still remember that incident.
Fantasia wrong??? Haven't seen the OP's CD, couldn't have been too wrong.

Spheris hires Canadian MTs and has Canadian accts. Can't answer the wage question. So much depe

It's about morality - not censorship! Right is right and wrong is wrong!

How about zillions of accounts. MQ has these accounts so overloaded even the new hires dont have any
work. I would love to read some of these reports and then they expect perfect QA and no blanks. Did they lose their minds completely.
As far as it being wrong, well who defines right and wrong? On the
other hand, what if he were doing the same thing? How would you feel? I think that should answer your question.
You SUPPOSE it was wrong! It was way wrong.

you are wrong
it is harder to prosecute someone in a murder trial w/o a body, but not impossible. It is a case that would be based on circumstantial evidence. Perfectly legal and done before.
YOU TOOK THAT UP WRONG
I have lectured her. She knows we are against it. My husband and I do not drink at all. What I was saying is she can sit here and tell me she is not drinking which she has said she does not but I know better. I know every kid drinks at collegea and no I don't like it. I know her room mate drinks and my daughter has told me. There is nothing I can do about it if she is at college 100 miles away. She clains she does not drink. She has been told she has to pay the consequences if something happens. I tell her not to drink but if she does it won't be my fault because she should know better. I can lecture her at home by not allowing it in my home. I know a few of her home friends drink and I have told her if the parents ask me if it is so I will not lie. Obviously you don't have teenagers. Also Natalie's parents could have lectured her to about drinking but obviously she did it anyway.
WRONG AGAIN
to 'study and show thyself approved...rightly dividing the word of Truth'.
Well, I don't think you are doing anything wrong ...
I've been with these companies 3-1/2 and 2-1/2 years.
Do you know which accounts at your company are large or have a lot of overtime? I would ask to be put onto a super large hospital account as a primary. Being a large hospital account and/or overtime requirements will tell you how much work is usually there.
I have been very fortunate on my accounts but I asked for large hospital accounts up front for that very reason....????
Ur wrong...
Been an MT for 10 years and with MQ for 8...so much for assuming...
please, if you think something is wrong...sm
do whatever you can to get the person help. My nephew was bipolar/scitzophrenic (s/p?) and we didn't know until it was too late. Please try to help this person...it's hard to live with the consequences if you don't. Good luck and I will be praying for you and your friend.
Wrong!
I will take it to heart if it is from the administrator. The post was addressed to her.
what's wrong with me
I'm wondering what's wrong with me too. I just did 50 exams and realized I put the date of service 8-15-04 on all of them. Fessed up when I realized. I try to work when I don't feel well and this is what happens. Darn.
No, you are wrong
They have known about this being a potential disaster since Betsy in 1963, but since it was such a monumental task, and people in, for example, Washington State or Idaho, (just an example folks) would not have wanted their tax dollars being spent to fix the levees in New Orleans, and the senators and congressmen in these other 51 states wouldn't push it, because it was not a popular thing to do.
You are wrong!
Your eyes are mistaking - She never got out of her lawn chair - it is stuck to her butt because she is so darn fat and she can barely run at all, it is more of like a wobble, wobble, wobble!
She's wrong, isn't she? You and I and everyone else
knows that. MQLover is wrong to be ugly and make assumptions.
She will never win the Nobel Peace Prize or even any type of Employee of the Year award with her abrasiveness. It's uncalled for. It really just shows her ugliness inside.
I'm a supporter of MQ; I don't agree with all they have done or will do but in general I've had a good relationship with them. It is difficult for me to hear some of the nastiness from complainers. It's one thing to state clearly and plainly what a problem is, it is another to do the name-calling, etc. Both sides are doing it now. It's sad.
The BEST plan of action for those who are upset with MQ, though, is to do what another poster suggested in an above thread --- go to the Employee Complaint Form on QNet and fill it out. Swamp them with those complaints. Have them swamped with complaints.
No changes can come about if MQ isn't directly contacted about the complaints.
I hope everyone can take a breather, relax, and allow each others opinions but be more respectful in their statements.
Have a good day, everyone.
Don't take this the wrong way, but
you're getting yourself all worked up over something you don't even know to be true. Shhhh, deep breaths. No worries. Everything will work out in the end. Even if MQ eliminates SE, what's the worst thing that could happen? So you go job hunting or switch to employee status. There are tons of IC and SE jobs out there with companies that are way better than MQ. I can relate, though. I've got three kids and a mortgage. Honestly, there are so many MT jobs out there that you can quit a job one day and start working again the next day for another. I understand that you have security and longevity with MQ, and the unknown is a scary thing. However, you need to stop worrying and imagining the worst. You're a good worker, right? Do you think they're just going to dump you with no notice? Why don't you talk to your supervisor? Ask her straight out what's going to happen. You are allowed to know how these new changes are going to affect you. In the meantime, stop catastrophizing and make yourself a nice cup of tea. It'll be all right.
Nothing wrong
with having 6 accounts or 7, 8 and so on but WHEN THERE IS NO WORK ON ANY OF THEM what do you do? Still sitting here waiting to work and NOTHING. There is something wrong with this picture.
Nothing wrong?
Boy, you don't get it do you and yet you continue to bicker. No work IS the problem and only getting from your 5th, 6th, etc. when you get the scatter report means that there are too many people on the accounts. That is the point.
Wrong again!
After the ER visit. I went to 'see Alice'. She did a better job taking care of me than you could ever do. I called you after I left her and told you 'she' made me see stars.
WRONG
Not getting paid for spaces. They just tell you that they do, but they are lying
Sorry, you are wrong.
I do have an extremely handsome husband. I do go to the spa and get pedicures. I also MT. There is nothing wrong with that. It really ticks me off when ugly people come down on me like you are. Hey ugly, where is pretty? Not anywhere around here, that is for sure.
WRONG
They are a public company and the privacy laws only apply to patient care.
Ha Ha You got me all wrong!
I, also used manual typewriters. I am 53 years old, knew how to keyboard Qwerty, and switched within the last 2 years to Dvorak.
Qwerty is not the "correct" keyboard, just the more common one. Actually, the Dvorak keyboard layout is older than Qwerty. Qwerty was developed specifically to slow down typists as there was a problem with the keys sticking together on the old manual typewriters because the typists would be able to go too fast using Dvorak keyboards. Qwerty was specifically developed to slow down typists and keep those keys from getting all clogged up. Then qwerty became the 'standard' because everyone was using it.
The world record speed typist, Barbara Blackburn uses the Dvorak keyboard. It reduces hand movement by about 10 times. All the vowels and most common consonants are on the home row. When I decided to become a medical transcriptionist, I decided to switch to Dvorak "'cause I ain't no spring chicken" and want to do all I can to make these old fingers last longer!!!
I actually am using the Dell keyboard that came with my computer because my Dvorak keyboard would not interphase with Windows XP. I have the keys memorized, and I simply changed the 'keyboard language' in my computer settings to Dvorak. It is hilarious when someone else tries to type on my keyboard using qwerty because what they type comes out jibberish!
So much for Dvorak 101 !!! Have a nice day!
