I was transcribing a surgery once, the surgery was over and the doctor was dictating
from anesthesia yet. Anyway, the surgeon dictating stopped dictating and said "Hey Mary - is this one big enough for you?" It was obvious he was talking about the patient's PENIS! I thought HOW EMBARRASSING! I hope they didn't make fun of my anatomy when I got my tubes tied!
New job first, save sick time, then surgery or surgery first?
I’d like to go back to medical secretary work. I’ve had cortisone shots in my ECU tendon 3 or 4 times and was warned not to have too many or my tendon could rupture. It’s been very weak for a year or so and my left wrist is smaller than my right wrist. I can’t type at all with my left pinky so I think it’s ruptured. I have Word auto correct and Instant Text set up so I very seldom type As, Qs, or Zs. I haven’t had surgery because I have my own account, no subs, a DD in college to support, and no disability insurance and didn’t want to take time off work for surgery. I do have medical insurance though my DH.
I’m debating whether to get a job, save up sick time, and have the surgery while getting sick time pay or have the surgery first without any sick time pay.
I’ve done medical secretary work before. I figured if I use Word there I can save their Auto Correct and transfer mine. If they use EMR, I can make my own shorts to stay away from Q, S and Z. I could only accept a job where I don’t type for more than an hour straight, which is what I do now. Then I started worrying about what if I have to use someone else’s computer? What if I unexpectedly have to type more than an hour?
I think I have cold feet about getting a job outside the home after over 7 years at home AND I’ve had cold feet about having surgery! Can someone help me think this through logically? I can’t think straight when my feet are cold.
bleeding heart
Food stamps, WIC, food banks, churches, family...
There are many answers to that problem.
No one has the right to steal and writing a dishonorable check is stealing. It is called "theft of property".
My tax dollars support government programs to prevent people from going hungry and to provide for women, infants, and children. I make donations to food banks and churches, etc., for those who just need help as well.
Food for the staff and doctors, if you can afford it. Food is always a big hit in a doctor's off
One of the biggest perks I can remember when I worked in a doctor's office was when the drug reps or orthopedic equipment reps would cater lunch for the whole office just so they could meet with the docs. The whole office would get so jazzed at the idea of free lunch.
If you can't afford to cater lunch, then I would do something like a muffin basket and bagels always go over well. But food is your best bet.
Further bleeding per Dr. **** will affect a hysterectomy.
Well I DID have bleeding with my ectopic pregnancy in August, so it is possible.
An early ultrasound at the hospital was incorrectly read at the hospital as intrauterine, but when my OB/GYN did another ultrasound, it was ectopic.
Really???? I miss 'burgh food. Philly food is okay, but it

Surgery/Plastic Surgery Transcription
Hello. I am considering taking a position in the field of plastic surgery. Can anyone recommend a way to pick up on the terminology FAST?
Typical bleeding heart everybody is a victim mentality, except of course...
those who are smart enough to not get pregnant at 14, finish school, work hard, and pay for and provide for themselves. Then they are villified by YOU for not wanting to just give it all away to those who have NOT made good choices for themselves in this infinite land of opportunity that we live in, the same country where people around the world are knocking on the doors to get into, and HAVE come here and taken advantage of the opportunity here. Opportunity doesn't mean it's handed to you. Sick, young, old, down on luck, or having a rough spell is one thing, but a lifetime of mooching is something else. There IS a difference. But that shades of gray world you live in doesn't allow you to see with any clarity.
These knee jerk bleeding heart liberals could not take responsibility for their
actions if it hit them in the face as it did with Mrs. Twitty. The Arubans are sick and tired of her and frankly so am I. Wash the makeup off your face, take off the false eyelashes and go grieve for your daughter.
Sorry, but if I have an emergency, I would rather have an
RN or RNP around than a fellow MT. It is easy to know the words to use, but putting things into actual use and practice is a different ballgame. Why do you feel so insecure that you have to challenge someone else? You know your field, they know theirs, and let it go at that. This is a child's game.
Not an emergency?
You don't have grandchildren? The only family the girls could live with was the two grandmothers. I only had one child and her husband is also an only child. The military doesn't care what happens to your kids when they send you. Oh wait...I know....we could have put them in a foster home....why didn't I think of that? Any OTHER grandmothers don't think caring for your babies is not an emergency in time of war?
Emergency Room
I type ER notes at my current job and I get the same thing. I bet 90% of my reports are for sore throats. I actually had one a few weeks ago for a cold! Come on now people! Everyone knows there is no cure for a cold! That is why most of us cannot afford health insurance. I had a couple bring a baby to the ER because it spit up during the night (just once). Come on! Babies do spit up. Natural. This happens. Buy a baby book!
If emergency, take your PC and go live where

usually you can fight or there is a clause for emergency sm
situations that you can go to the nearest hospital for emergency and i would say it was emergency or you wouldn't have went to the ER. fight it; you pay the benefits, you should get some help.
Computer emergency. Question...
I turned on my extra computer next to my work computer and got a black screen that says "operating system not found" What the heck happened? It worked fine yesterday and shut down normally.

emergency room visits
I have often wondered this exact same thing. A lot of people go to the ER who have no health insurance or no primary doctor.
I had one woman bring her child in because he made a funny face after eating a sour fruit candy, I mean come on!
Emergency room report
What sort of background do you need to learn ER reports?
Daily emergency work as IC...
Is it normal for an IC to be called often for emergency reports that need to be completed within a short amount of time - one to two hours. Is this normal practice? I get these calls fequently and it makes it difficult to complete the work I was doing, and/or I may be out on my own time when these phone calls come in. I tend to work best in the evenings so I do most of my chores, etc., during the day.
Poll for IC's - do you have emergency backups for your equipment - sm
I'm wondering how much is enough - I just got a new keyboard so I have my old one for a backup. Now I'm wondering if I shouldn't have emergency back-ups of my other equipment - C-phone, foot pedal, etc. Anyone else have this?
Be sure to check your local emergency services regarding 9-1-1 sm
Just saw a news story that 9-1-1 is not set up yet on these systems to pull up the home address with the phone call. Just an FYI.
Call the police...the non-emergency number
most communities have noise ordinance laws. If the cops show up enough times they will stop. Trust me, I've done it. I had a neighbor that used to blast music at the wee hours. I tried the *nice neighbor* tactic of asking him not to do that becuase I have a child and we need to sleep, etc. Well, that didn't work. He worked 2nd shift and believed it was his *right* to blast his music whenever he wanted. After I called the cops a few times on him...he stopped, and I haven't heard so much as a peep out of him since!
Does anybody understand the meaning of EmErGeNcY room anymore?
I cannot understand why I type SO many ERs with trivial chief complaints such as:
sore throat - cough - pimple - splinter - blister - farted - (okay, maybe I'm exaggerating a little, but COME ON people!)
The most recent ccx.....Can I take a laxative? Not constipated, just needs to know if she can take a laxative along with her hypertension med. Thought she better go to the ER to ask.
Why are these people allowed to be such a waste of ER resources?
Just a pet peeve....wondering if anyone agrees with me.....perhaps someone else who has spent hours in an ER waiting room for something or other.
Emergency question for brilliant computers techs. sm
I just had a weird experience with my computer. The screen looked like it was shaking. I thought it was in Word at first, but the desktop was doing this also. It was like a wavy line was going down the screen, part of it would jump a little bit, then below it some more would jump. It was almost like a wave pattern to the side, I could see the edges of the screen moving in and out. I thought I saw this yesterday once or twice, but decided it was my eyes. It wasn't, this was definitely real. It lasted for approximately a minute. Is this something to worry about? TIA.
Dinner and pets aren't the same as a medical emergency. Capiche?

No offense, but I hardly doubt kids 6, 8, and 9 in a real emergency would be savvy enough to handle
their cell phones properly while some creep is carrying them away. And they're away from you with cell phones at that young age?? Oh my! Please reconsider. Perhaps you're feeling false security from a cell phone.
Don't forget the "good Mayor" who did not follow standard emergency procedures
But he sure is quick to throw blame on everyone else.
Emergency over... Kid hadh left an empty floppy disk in the computer.

Well, not really. In college I did a gruelng intership at a local express emergency clinic and got p
gas, lunch, uniform, etc., AND the head doctor ended up sexually harrassing me! I kid you not! So, I don't think anyone without any experience getting paid 3 cents to learn MT in their own home setting is half bad.....It could be worse. They could ask you to do it for free.
PS: My college major was nursing.
Acute care work is operative reports, consultations, H&Ps, emergency room, DS basically the type of
dictation found in a hospital setting as opposed to a clinic setting in which you just type office notes and minor procedures.
surgery
My son is having it on Friday in Dallas by the doctor who invented it. He has guaranteed it will work for him even with his astigmatism. He said he underwent five solid hours of testing today and the doctor told him to stay away from the 500. per day, 15-minute exam places.
If you do not want surgery,
You can have your dentist make a nightguard for you, and a chiropractor is also helpful for manipulation. For a quick fix, albeit temporary, you can go to a pain management physician for steroid injections into the temporomandibular joint. If treated, symptoms can abate without surgery. Hope that helps.
LOL and even after ALL that surgery...

Eye surgery
My son had this done last summer when he was 4. You can E-mail me if you have any questions.
Had surgery
I just had this surgery last week. Go to the surgeon and have him submit it to the insurance company. If your BMI is near 40, and/or you have other medical conditions as a result of obesity, most insurance companies will cover it; although some do make you jump through hoops to get it done. Just have to work with them.
Surgery
Just to let you know the condition I am in, and I am not looking for sympathy here, but I had a major foot surgery. I was born with clubfeet. I had to undergo a calcaneal reconstruction due to bone damage, and I underwent an Achilles lengthening and reattachment. I was totally non-weightbearing of the right foot for 8 weeks, and then another 8 weeks of rehab. Again, my doctor did not want me to go back to work yet, but due to the insurance and FMLA situation at work, I had to go back.
I am just belly aching I guess, but it just seems that this other FMLA person gets away with murder. I am more than willing to work 4 to 6 hours a day, as my foot withstands it, but it would mess up my insurance coverage, which is the only reason I have stayed at this facility for as long as I have. Such is life!
I just had the surgery - sm
I waited way too long before taking steps to stop it. Good for you for doing this now. Make sure to get an ergonomic keyboard and mouse. They have new ball mice (is that right for multiple mouses??) that is supposed to be really good at preventing cts. Taking breaks and wearing the splints at night are the keys though I think. Hoping that you can stop this in its tracks.
IMO, you should have the surgery before
trying to hold down a typing job. I need some surgery too (different type) and don't have disability insurance. I am trying to hold out until the stimulus package check comes (I know, I shouldn't hold my breath) and will use it to pay the bills while I am laid up. I also have health insurance, so that is not an issue, thank God. Good luck!
Brain surgery... ha....sm
when I thing of some of the doctors I've known over the years, we could probably learn brain surgery before they could learn transcription !
Lasik eye surgery...
Has anyone ever had it?
Lasik eye surgery
I had it done about 5 years ago and it was AWESOME! I could see better than 20/20 almost immediately after the procedure! After wearing glasses since age 8-9, it was absolutely amazing to be able to SEE clearly!! I'd recommend it to anyone who's dependent on glasses 24/7.

Hi, I had it 4 years ago, my husband is far sighted and had it done 8 years ago, my sister had it and we are all THRILLED!!!

Surgery in India
I saw a clip on TV a while back about this. It followed an American woman who had a hip replacement. She was very pleased with her care and the outcome, and the price.
Thank you all, my first back surgery!nm
Orthopaedic surgery
What is the best reference book for orthopaedic op notes?
I had a surgery followed by complications (sm)
that turned into a 3-week hospitalization, about 1 week was in the ICU. When I got the bill it was $150,000...total paid by my insurance company was about $55,000. My portion was $100.00. Don't make too many assumptions based on the bill, it's not an accurate picture.
