Not me - love my 2 teens at home! Enjoy it while you can.

I realize my house doesn't have to be perfect all of the time, their rooms do not need to be clean all of the time, and I enjoy them so much. Soon, my son will go to college and I will be left with my one daughter, and then she will go to college and I will have an empty house with just me, hubby, and our golden. Boy, I dread those days. I am enjoying all the noise, fighting, messiness and laughter as much as possible. I love when they have friends over. They are so funny and a delight!
Really, don't wish it away too quickly.

I enjoy being alone at home, but I've got one home sick from school already.
One on one with a kid is nice, too.
This summer has been absolutely crazy. I haven't had a moment to myself for three months because all of my kids were home traipsing their friends through the house and yard. My husband switched his work schedule, too, so he's around more than usual. However, I like not having to do two loads of dishes and four loads of laundry a day. There are no toys or clutter dragged out everywhere. I can clean the house first thing in the morning, and it stays clean until everyone gets home at night.
I even got to relax with a cup of coffee and watch TV for half an hour this morning, something I liked for a change instead of cartoons or kids' movies. I signed up for an online class that I've been wanting to take. I can exercise without being interrupted. Yesterday, I went to the mall and spent all my saved up gift cards. I got some clothes, books, bath stuff, and a new coffee mug. My work gets done a lot faster, too. Call me nuts, but I've never had the luxury of being alone in the house for 14 years. It's kinda nice. I love my family with all my heart, but I love having a few hours to myself each week, too.
Except now the cat and dogs have been acting weird since the kids went back to school. They must think that I need someone or something to clean up after and correct behavior on. They're getting into everything and racing around the house behind me.
It's healthy to enjoy some alone time. You'll adjust and enjoy it soon.

Office politics. That is why I enjoy working at home. In the office,
people are in other people business. Just mind your own business.
I'm at home and love it.
I don't think you could go wrong. Also, I am pretty sure you will be making more by the line than by the hour, unless your office job is VERY generous. I am making about $10-$15 more an hour at home on production than I could in an office. You are in the same situation I am. My husband pays my insurance, so we really don't worry about me not having benefits. He also has quite a bit more taken out in federal and state taxes on his check, so we don't have to pay estimated taxes, but still get a (very) small refund. Good luck with making the decision, but sounds like a great thing to me.
You can love a job and still love being home! sm
I got into medical transcription for many reasons. Yes, one was that I wanted to be home with my children, another was that I wanted to be in the medical field, and yet another was this just fits me. Medical terminology and grammar are two things that have always come easily to me. So, this fits. I can work early, early mornings and late nights when they are asleep. Also during afternoon naps. Yeah, doesn't leave a heck of a lot of time for myself, but THAT is a sacrifice I am willing to make, leaving my kids for someone else to raise/care for all day wasn't.
why I love transcribing at home
My Day's at the Hospital......
1. Two co-workers who only typed about 35-40 rad reports a day.
2. One co-worker who took 6 cigarette breaks and did not smoke.
3. Husband of one co-worker came in and perked over our shoulders for 30 minutes each day before sign out time.
4. One co-worker who never called in to proper channels when not showing up.
5. Somestimes above-mentioned co-worker just did not call, we are supposed to have ESP.
6. One co-worker took 1.5 hour lunch breaks.
7. One co-worker to me to slow my a-- down.
8. One co-worker in the outpatient department would walk all the way over to in-patient to unassign her pools because she "didn't feel like typing ultrasounds" today.
9. Can you say cherrypickers.....
10. Boss couldn't type her name if her life depended on it.
11. Co-workers never looked in reference books. Called across room - How do you spell....(Mind you there are three of us in one room).....
-------------------------------------------
Good Stuff...
1. I thank my mom all the time for making me take typing in high school. I type 120 words a minute.
2. I took lemons and make lemonades. I read up on the subject of Voice Recognition and saw that I would be voiced out of a job (in 2003).
3. I took a few bs jobs, and got several "bait and switch" deals.
4. Would get up to 350 lph and get switched to an account with ESLs. Can do them, but .......
5. Enjoy flexibility of working at home.
6. I say I have paid my dues, but do we ever.
------------------------------------------------------------------
I love this board. That's how it got my present job. That's how I settled on my word Expander (after sampling three).
I have purchased and sold items. I have utilized advice regarding reference materials (yes, you do need them - make a sacrifice). I have increased my QA from 98 to 99.1). I don't skip over reports. I work when I am asked. In my spare time I add more and more acronyms to my dictionary and because of this, I have received an unsolicited raise.
As for these transcription schools, it's just like "real" college. You get out of it what you put into it. They do not owe you anything.
Like I said, I love this board, but sometimes we go overboard with the fluff, i.e., what's for dinner, how's your puppy..."). It took me 10 years to find the perfect fit and the flexibility because I have another career as an accountant. These two occupations co-exist perfectly. No two days are alike.
Some of us are looking at transcription as an easy what out of corporate America, but it's not that easy. You have to stay FOCUSED and you have to learn to use REFERENCE materials. And don't say you cannot afford them. Think of them as an investment in you job SECURITY.
Good Day. Luv y'all. Got work on the Lanier.....
Yes - love my job, the $$ and the convenience of my own home! nm

Oh you will love being an MT! Stay home,
xx
Love being back home...
but frustrating at times. Seems everyone wants my job. It's soooo easy they say. Now I'm not an expert by all means and I continue to learn as I go. Discipline is one of the keys...my poor house doesn't get cleaned anymore (I wonder when someone will notice).
And those moms who think I work at home and call on you to pick up their kids because their "working". That's my boiling point.javascript:editor_insertHTML('text','');

That's why I love working from home. Too funny. sm
I helped my son out with his paper route the other morning because he was sick with a temp of 102. I'm walkng around, almost done with the papers, heading home, birds are singing, sun is starting to shine and then, ALL OF A SUDDEN, VAROOOOOOOM!!! About 4 cars go whizzing by, almost running me over, oblivious to their surroundings, obviously late for work again. Checked my watch and it was 5:45 a.m. 6 o'clock shift running late again. Can't get their Dunkin Donuts and make it to work on time unless they drive like a bat out of h...l.
I just laughed and laughed and thought, "Well geeeee, it stinks to be you doesn't it? Now why don't you take time out to fill up with GASOLINE!" HEE HEE!
I don't know why people are in such a hurry lately. Why don't they just set their alarms 15 minutes earlier for Pete's sake? I was taking my older son to work one morning and was at a red light at a very busy, accident prone, intersection. The light turned green. I always take a quick look left and right before going through the green light and I didn't even have time to glance to the left before the "A" behind me laid on his horn. Of course then I got funny and drove like a granny, just to make him mad. He ended up finding space to pass on the right and he gave me the finger.
Good for you. I love my local at home job.
Personally, I love working at home, but my
kids were already in school when I started 10+ years ago. I worked part-time at home in the evening when they were small, but my ex was there to help with them then. I would think it would be very distracting to work a full day with small ones, unless you were working an p.m. shift when they were asleep, but then there is no time for hubby. But then again, there are many who do.
No! But would love some pointers on where the eligibles men hang out. Being an at-home MT has cause
me to be somewhat of a recluse, from church to grocery store, visits to mom and dad, I have no social life. I am not a party goer, don't do alcohol, drugs or cigarettes. Will be 50 soon. I have been told I am beautiful and look maybe 38 or 39. Children are all grown, last one going off to college in fall. I am not going to know what to do with myself other than work. Any pointers? I live in the south.
RE: No! But would love some pointers on where the eligibles men hang out. Being an at-home MT has c
Possibly right here on this board. How about a 51 year old (52 in September) male who is also in the same line of work as you, and in the south also.
Love in house, hate nationals at home nm

I guess I'm the odd ball; I LOVE going to home parties! sm
But on the other hand, I HATE shopping. I do the majority of my shopping from home parties -- Lia Sophia (sp?) jewelry, Tastefully Simple (a fave), Pampered Chef. I'm waiting to go to a Southern Living Home Show but haven't been invited to one yet.
1990 VW Golf here, love it. Work at home, don't drive much.

Oh and don't you love the "WOW, you work from home?? HEY! I can type - hook me up!" sm
That burns my hiney more than anything else. Working from home is NOT a piece of cake. I can relate to those who think since we work from home we can just get up anytime. I don't know how many times I have tried to explain that if I were working in a "traditional" office, that they wouldn't just walk in, call, etc. etc. but I don't think anybody will ever really get that our time is money, literally.
oh yes, I have two teens (sm)
and they know full well how I feel about them drinking. I am not saying you can control it or stop it, but you are the one who said you didn't want to know if she was drinking at college, and to me, that is retarded! My son will be 18 tomorrow, and believe me, I'd want to know if he was drinking when he starts college in January. I guess I just have a closer relationship with my teen than you do, and for that I am sorry!
I HAD TEENS TOO
not all parents are that easy to fool, maybe you are. and 2nd and 3rd grade drinking, that is kind of rare to me. maybe your head has been stuck in the sand too long, take a look at a alot of other kids, most of them did not have to attend a tenn AA MEETING.
Teens~
I hear ya. According to my son all the kids he knows are allowed to stay up all night, talk on the phone or IM until all hours and even drink alcohol at home. I say that is wonderful for them, but that is not going to work in our house. My son is a 17-year-old senior and the past few months have been a nightmare. He was always so sweet and mild and did listen, but that all went out the window. We have sent him to a psychiatrist because we cannot figure out how to motivate him. Believe me~ you are not alone. If you get any answers, let me know, because I am at the end of my rope with this crap.
teens and New Cars
Yes, there are probably a few nice new cars the "sweet 16's" had given to them, more so probably out of the guilt the parents felt for not spending time with them or the parents need to "keep up" their own status. My niece was one of those....daddy bought his little girl anything she snapped her fingers for, she is 23, never went to college or held a job, but has a masters degree in partying and shopping. It's finally wearing thin on ol Pops and he gripes and complains but he set the standard the first time he gave in. Kids may not like you right now, but they will appreciate it more so when it's their hard earned money and feel a sense of accomplishment.
On the other hand, my kid who is 20, is still driving a used car and he now knows the benefit of it after 3-4, 5...can't even remember the count minor fender benders, no injuries except to his pride!
Teens are just learning how to drive, insist of driving with the damn cell phones to their ears and minds on anything but the roads, and as I put it, why take something brand new and bang it up? Save it till you have more experience, more of your own money and your insurance rates are lower. If my kid and his friends had stock in Maaco, they'd be young millionaires by now!
Remind her of that old saying, which I heard a zillion years ago when I was a teen "people in h _ _ _ want ice water but they don't always get it
I'd take hung any day over 2 teens that like RAP!! UGH!
I need shock absorbers for my upstairs floors while they listen to their RAP downstairs.
Don't ask why I put up with it. I do because they don't drink or drug. They write and record.
gotta pick your battles.
I have 3 teens on myspace.
Really, you need to slowly step out on the porch, down the driveway, and into the world.
Don't you realize that media will sensationalize anything to the furthest extent possible in order to raise your blood pressure?
I watch the myspace of my kids, my kids' friends, and of any anxillary friends (it's not at all hard to do if you can use a computer keyboard). Ninety-five percent are fine. A few are revealing. Heck, my 16-year old met the greatest fellow on the planet through myspace; he has become a second son.
I have a myspace myself, centered around my work and hobbies.
Don't condemn reality before you experience your first breath.
Yes, shocked here, too. As my 3 teens have
pointed out, dear Cat is sure strutting her you-know-whats. Yuck. Chris was absolutely stunned, and so were a lot of viewers. We're not even gonna bother - the remaining 3 are nice enough, but talented enough? No way!!
Yes, teens should work...
When I was in high school, I babysat and right after graduation worked in the local conveneince store. My sister worked in a clothing factory with no air conditioning, which gave her great incentive to go to college when she came home covered in lint and threads stuck to her. (Not bashing factory work, because that's where my grandmother worked. Just making a point.)
My oldest, who is now 19, worked at a grocery store and at a summer camp at our community center last summer. He had gas and car insurance to pay for after he bought a car. Right now he is attending college and working part-time at Fed Ex, loading trailers that are around 100 degrees inside. Again, another incentive to do well in school. He has rent, utilities and gas to pay for while he is at school.
My daughter is 16 and ready to take her driver's test in a couple of weeks. She started working at the same store I worked at, but unfortunately they scheduled her for every weekend and then started to cut her hours back to next to nothing, like 1 1/2 hours a night. She quit with our blessing with the understanding that once she has her license, she will start job hunting, because she, too, will have gas and car insurance to pay for. She already babysits quit a bit and buys whatever extra stuff she wants and also still has some money left from her other job that she left in March.
My youngest son is 14 and has been working in his uncle's shop for several years, helping out with this and that and he makes pretty good money. Of the 3 of them, he is the one who LOVES to work. In fact, we went to see Pirates of the Caribean (sp?) this weekend, and he wouldn't go because he wanted to help his uncle, so I have no worries about him making his way in the world.
Sorry so long.
TEENS SHOULD WORK...
At some point, at least at 16, teens should work. There are too many "EXTRAS" that they want now adays and if they want them enough they should be responsible enough to work hard to get them. My husband always thought my daughter(17) should not work while in school so she could concentrate on her studies until he saw how his sister (who is 18 years younger than him) did not work during high school or college and could not find a job after college because she had no experience. My daughter has been babysitting summers for two years and now she works at a fast food place. She pays for most of her gas, any extra clothes she wants and half of her expenses for extracurricular activities at school. This summer she mainly worked to pay off an enormous cell phone bill (which she no longer has) which taught her a big lesson in responsibility and money.
So it is my opinion that teens should work, be it part time somewhere or babysitting or yard work. The big real world is competitive.
YES teens should work to help pay for what they want but don't need
so I could help with money at home. It does teach responsibility and gives a sense of pride with each paycheck. My 10 yo wants a cell phone. I told her no way til she has a job and can pay for her minutes!
We have teens, so our plan is...
...to have one big trip every few years. We did Europe with all 3 teens in 2002, then Kauai with teens and friends this past summer (oldest graduating). Next year we are going back to Europe to do more of Italy, Wales, and Ireland with #2 graduating. Luckily I have a money-smart hubby who insists we live below our means so we can do these trips.
We also have a #2 daughter involved in competitive Irish dance, so we travel about once a month for that far and wide across the U.S. I don't call these vacations, though, but rather endless flying, shuttles, and staying at hotels. Not fun.
Absolutely teens work
In this day and age of 10 year olds with ATM cards and cell phones, absolutely! How do you learn the value of money if you never actually earn it and handle it? All 3 of my kids walked dogs for $2 an hour, scooped ice cream, babysat, mowed lawns, shoveled snow, etc. As long as their grades were up, they could work part time. The deal was that whatever they saved towards college spending money, we would match. We would also help buy each a used car for college. They knew from age 12 they had ONE SHOT at college on our nickel, then they were on their own if they dropped out or flunked out. We didn't micromanage their savings -- they were responsible for it themselves all along. All 3 absolutely amazed us -- between them we had to match almost $20k. They are now well eductated, working and productive adults. My eldest son actually thanked me for our good example as parents, and giving them an understanding of the value of money. How great is that????
Absolutely and my 2 teens are ready also. sm
I have a Senior in HS and a Freshman in HS who both are board, finished their summer reading, tired of the swim club, been to the beach for 3 weeks, and they are now vamping up for their summer camps, VB and football. They both said yesterday, they are board and their brain needs stimulation.
I on the other hand, can't wait to have my space back. I sometimes feel "my space" is invaded and don't have a spot to call my own. No matter what room in the house I go into, someone is there or follows me in, especially the kitchen.
Can't wait for school to start, but on the other hand, am not that anxious as they will be 1 more year toward being on their own and leaving the house for good - college and everything. That is scary!
I think teaching pre-teens how to do laundry
I think 10-12 year olds can help do some laundry - it helps them develop a work ethic and shows them that if they go out on their own, what they will have to do....well, the ones who don't continually bring their laundry back to their mothers. *LOL* AND they love eaning $$$ - it's a great way, instead of *tossing* allowances at them.....chores/laundry/etc. = few dollars in their little pockets *S*
It's all about deals and contracts w/kids I think....and I'm a pro...on the subject, as I have some....*lol*
I don't think she means adults. She is talking about teens

Just turned 40 last week, Not on myspace and won't allow my teens either. sm
I have a very fulfilling life with my husband, family and friends - don't see the need for myspace for folks my age.
As for the teens - there is just too much temptation on their for them to get in trouble. They are forbidden and I check the web as well as their computers, cookies, etc. every week to be sure they are in compliance. To much danger there for my son and daughter.
38, female, married, 2 teens ages 16 and 14. Started tMT when I was 17. nm

Maybe she should have stayed in America where Americans look for drunken teens everyday.
If you go to a foreign country, you are under their laws and their policing. If you don't like it, DON'T TRAVEL OUT OF THE COUNTRY! In the meantime, TEXAS TEAM IS SEARCHING IN ARUBA WITH PERMISSION AND ARE VERY HAPPY WITH COOPERATION FROM ARUBAN GOVERNMENT!
babies are easier than teens and older children. they sleep and you can hold them and type. nm

Same here. Enjoy.
I enjoy VR
I work on the eScription platform for MDI now, formerly for Transcend (the eScription VR work moved to MDI). From what I understand, Transcend is continually adding new accounts and needs more people to staff them, for the most part. I'm curious what company/platform you are doing VR for/on? I have made more money using VR, personally, and, as you say, with much less wear and tear on my hands/wrists.
So far I enjoy it
I have worked outside the home and got tired of office politics and dealing with supervisors on power trips etc. I wanted more control over my life. I decided to become an MT which allowed me have that and have been working as an MT for 4 1/2 years now. I enjoy the work (except for those difficult dictations), enjoy working from home and enjoy the flexible hours. I have made more money working as an MT than I ever had before. I find the work challenging. I know there is a lot for me to learn and I am trying to build on my experience and hope to continue in this line of work for as long as I can.
I enjoy....sm
Psych and ER, because they are interesting. Also like H&Ps, d/c summaries, and family practice.
Dislike neuro, especially with a thick accent .
Then enjoy! sm
My favorite is microwave movie-theater butter popcorn and SnoCaps or M&Ms! Anything in moderation is not bad. I do this just about every month and am not overweight either. Plus, did you know your metabolism rises during *that* time of the month? Eat up :)
Yes - enjoy .12
I make much less than I did 10 years ago - due to Microsoft Word versus WordPerfect and the fact that you have to look up "every little thing" on the internet to complete a report. No one wants blanks and because of the internet they think you should be able to find every doctor on God's green earth, their address and the number of children that they have - as well as business names and addresses, relatives, etc. all done through Google or some other search engine which takes time out of your actual transcription. There used to be people in the office who would take care of these things and now the Transcriptionist is expected to do it. I can never get a good flow going anymore because of having to stop and look up names and addresses, etc. I would be happy with .12 and just wait for the day that your job goes to India - as they are all doing.
i enjoy it
went thru a rough time last summer when they went to VR, but i went out and sold myself and became an editor. they have since thrown in the towel and dictating again. i have too much work now, but i am not complaining. last paycheck i made $1100 so it is worth what i put into it.
I enjoy it too.
Does anyone here ENJOY their job?
Does anyone on this board actually enjoy doing med tran? It seems like all everyone does on here is complain about how bad it has gotten and how they hate it. I just want to know if anyone feels the opposite and still enjoys mt'ing?
I enjoy my JOB, just not how bad the pay has gotten.
x
Enjoy, eat up and be merry
Prostelysing bothers me. Keep your god to you and everything is fine. Start telling other people it is okay to do something cause *god* says so, then it isnt fine. That kind of stuff belongs on the religion board. Arguments for blacks in the back of the bus, blacks not being allowed to vote, nothing wrong with smoking, drinking, not letting women vote. All of these were thought of as right years ago. We, thankfully, evolved and realized they were wrong and changed them. Same thing with killing animals. IMHO and in millions of others opinions, it is wrong and one day, we will look back in horror. Already so many young people are vegetarians, more so than when I went to school. Im amazed. I have three friends who each have sons. All four of those sons are vegetarian and they are educating and enlightening their mothers about the healthful ways of eating and ethical and kind way of living. Not to harm, tread on this earth softly. So, once again, have a feast..enjoy. Actually, the animals are getting their revenge through disease spread by eating meat. I talked to one thoracic surgeon I used to work with and he said meat eating, especially red meat, contributes to heart disease, plaquing, high cholesterol, gallstones, gallbladder disease and he said that was just the beginning, much more. But, hey, this is America. We can make our own choices. So enjoy. It is just a post about animal cruelty. If it bothers you and your gods teaching, then dont read it.
enjoy it while it lasts
i received letter from MQ stating all ASR work will now be paid at 80%. Yippee! Is the client paying less for ASR work? Is the cost of living going down 20%?
