One of the ways VR is edging out transcriptionists is by not offering their systems to MTSOs. You have to contract with the client who has already contracted with the VR company. Also, from my experience, the VR companies are not training the doctors to use their systems. So when you edit, you are doing A LOT of editing. All punctuation and the removal of ums and ahs in addition to word corrections. Names and dates are a pain as well. You can transcribe faster, and the rates VR editors are getting these days don't add up. It's a sad state.
