Not exactly...

In Reply to: Actually the "three wise men" - were astrologers...sm

Astrologers study the stars in an attempt to predict the future...this negates faith in God (Creator), and places faith in objects (creation). Those building the tower of Babel were of this group.

On the other hand, the three wise men were students of astronomy. They studied the planets and stars, just as astronomers do today.

But, they were also students of scripture and knew what God had said through His prophets regarding the Star of Bethleham.

For thousands of years, astronomers had been studying the sky, looking for the appearance of this particular star......and here it was.

But when they saw the star, they didn't "predict" what was going to happen; they knew what had already taken place.
The star was just a marker in time of a prophetic occurrence, and they realized this.

In a nutshell, it wasn't the star that foretold the event of Christ's birth...it was God who foretold the event would be preceeded by the appearance of this star, which happened "in the fullness of time."
