SOME run credit checks, some do not. And the loss of equipment from MTs who refuse to send things back is a HUGE expense to a national. If only MTs operated with the same ethics they expect from the employer. As for equipment costs, no, not every national gets things "super cheap" and so what if the losses are tax deductible? That's a pretty naive way to look at things. It still costs money to replace equipment that isn't returned. And by the way, perhaps if nationals didn't have to spend all that, the wages wouldn't be so low. It all goes to a cost of doing business and there are times when irresponsible MTs manage to cost a business a LOT. As for contracts? Hmm, national companies DO have contracts with their customers, you're way off base here. And by the way, with HIPAA, we are all required to have some kind of contract! I'm sure many allow for use of your own computer, our company does not and I know several others who don't. I suppose this one is about a 50/50 split.
It's too bad that MTs and employers can't work together better to make things better for everyone. It is never one sided.
