I worked in a satellite office, not even on campus or in-house but across the street, from a children's hospital doing their medical transcription. All of us in the department had to take the classes and get certified. We protested that we would most likely never even be in a situation to perform CPR, but it was mandatory.
As they pointed out, you never know when as a hospital employee you'll be the closest one at hand to either begin CPR or assist someone else doing CPR.
After I thought about it, I stopped whining and realized they were right, not to mention the fact it offered me some comfort as the mother of a toddler to know how to do CPR on infants, toddlers and adults.
It's usually offered free through the hospital, so I say go for it. One can never know too much when it comes to life-safing techniques.
