Nope. I try to take life easy. No point in stressing.

Nope, unfortunately, the Goldtouch doesn't
And I don't like the key feel of the Goldtouch that much (not clicky enough for me).
Is your Lexmark anything like these? (My dream keyboard, sigh. Somebody who posts here has one of them, but they're in the really prohibitive price range now, something like $500+.)http://www.clickykeyboards.com/index.cfm/fa/categories.main/parentcat/12675
If so, what a shame yours is wearing out. Maybe you could get it repaired? http://www.pckeyboard.com/FAQs.html#Q8
Why, oh why, oh why, did they stop manufacturing good split keyboards like this? Especially the IBMs. I might try a Comfort ErgoFlex or ErgoMagic next time. http://www.sforh.com/keyboards/split.html
Thanks so much for the followup. :) And best of luck. I well know how hard it is to think about going to any other style (totally split, with separation, that is) of keyboard now.
Doesn't sound fair or worth it at all, to me. (sm)
Hi Hayseed,
I definitely know where you're coming from. First of all, I never heard of being on a pager for transcription. Especially if you work for a big company, which you would think have people who work a graveyard shift. I can see it for certain circumstances, for instance during normal working hours, or if you work for more than one company, and they're paging you to let you know there's tons of work or something. But if you've just put in a full day of transcribing (which I think for most of us is much longer than a standard 8-hour day!), then by all means you need to be able to get a good night's sleep.
Any supervisor worth the big bucks they're getting paid should be told what this is doing to you. But it sounds like someone is taking advantage of what sounds like a very strong work ethic that you have, and if you give 'em an inch, they'll take a mile.
Back in the old days when I concurrently ran a small horse-transporting service in addition to transcription, I was 'on-call' 24/7. After nearly running myself ragged too many times, thinking I could save all the horses in the world that had colic and needed emergency surgery at U.C. Davis, I finally had to draw a line somewhere and know when to say 'no'. One time, after working a full day in the office, then getting called at 6 pm to take a horse with a twisted intestine to UCD for surgery, I finally made it back home and into bed at about 3 AM, and had to be at work at 8 AM. And then the phone rang. It was the SAME vet that had just sent me to UCD earlier that evening! I hated saying no, because it put him and everyone else in a real bind, but I knew that I just couldn't physically do it.
Eventually I got better at knowing what I could do and what I couldn't, and it really did help my state of mind immensely, especially once I started getting 6-8 hours of sleep per night, again!
Anyway, I think you were totally within your rights and thinking very clearly when you emailed them to say you wanted to get rid of the pager. If you only got paged once in a blue moon, and got BEAUCOUP BUCKS for your time when you did the STAT work, it'd be one thing. But to be paged to the point of being totally sleep-deprived and feeling like you're losing it, is quite another.
I'm amazed that an employer would do this to you. Is it always the same person that pages you, or are there many, and they all think they're the ONLY one paging you? Whatever. Either way, I think those middle-of-the-night STATS are why the Graveyard Shift was invented, and if that's not your shift, then they should be paging someone else.
So don't feel guilty for having to put your foot down and say enough is enough. You should probably tell them a lot of the things you said in your post above, too... someone definitely needs to have their eyes opened.
I seriously doubt anyone is going to fire you for simply needing a night's sleep! But on the off-off-off chance that happens, all I can say is, you didn't lose much, but THEY sure did.
I agree...doesn't seem worth it in my opinion...
nm
We got a free turkey, which I donated to charity. I can afford a turkey,

Oops -- that it's worth it sure doesn't belong on my post!

I agree - doesn't sound like it's worth your time to fight her anymore. NM

why doesn't HIPPA monitor these things? (sm)
they should be the outsource police and crack down on these companies, y'know?
This kind of puts things in perspective, doesn't it. SM

De-stressing
Assuming you have periods of time off like 2 days in a row, WITHOUT prior commitments, here's what you do, and believe me you will be DE-STRESSED and no longer in so much DIS-TRESS, ok?
This is all contingent upon having the right frame of mind. Have you ever awakened with a "cleaning bug" in you? Well, you need a "ruthless beetle" for this task. Either by talking yourself into it, or by waking up with it, one day just take advantage of the situation and be TOTALLY RUTHLESS with your personal possessions. I would suggest keeping ON HAND those big, sturdy dark plastic lawn bags. Open up a few of them and put them in various rooms of your house. Go through your stuff -- one room per day, or be a little tazmanian devil and do the whole house, depending on your frame of mind -- and ASK YOURSELF:
* When is the last time I used or had a use for this thing? If not within the last calendar year, TOSS IT! If it is a sentimental thing, ask yourself, Why am I keeping this? Is it truly a memento from a significant time in my life, or is it just a hokey souvenir, vacation or person? TOSS IT! If it is something you think you MIGHT USE sometime, be realistic and if it doesn't fit your CURRENT household or lifestyle then SEND IT ON A TRIP TO OUTER SPACE!
This is the best I can offer. It has ALWAYS, ALWAYS worked for me. Keep me clutter free, updated, worry free and hassle free, and gives me lots more SPACE. The key is to do it when you are feeling DETACHED from your personal possessions and have just about had it up to you-know-where with the clutter you are experiencing. Good Luck!!
Oh please -- the recipe for the seasoned taters?!

oops meant to post this on MQ board. I really am stressing out. (nm)

Nope, I don't feel "LUCKY" to be treated like an imbicile by my company. Nope, No way.

If they don't include spaces, don't do it.
You'll be making less money for more headache than you are now. I'd stick with what you've got and work on building your skills. Is there any way you could try both for a while to see which one you like better?
This thread does not include the other 90% of us
who struggle with bad dictators to make $300 a week.
Forgot to include this
There is nifty piece of portable equipment called the Lynx Portable Back Stretcher. It is sold by the same company that makes/sells Teeter Hang Ups (an inversion table). The Lynx is amazing. It helps to open up disk spaces.
It never hurts to include her even if she
doesn't come. It is about not having regrets. If you know that you always made an effort ...then in the end you will have peace about it.
Meant to include this one too

Subject: IT trouble
I have been having a problem with IT whereby when I enter a short such as "Fln" and then choose "Flonase", the expansion produced in the document comes out
"Flnase", although it is not misspelled in the glossary. This also happens
with phrase entries, though in neither case does it happen every time (i.e.
sometimes when I enter "Fln" and choose "Flonase", that is what is produced in
the document). Usually it seems that it loses a letter that I skip in entering
a short, as above, but an example of one that happened today a little
differently was when I entered "Aqa" and then chose "Answers questions
appropriately", the expansion produced came out "Aswers questions
appropriately", which I believe is the first time I have had it just drop the
letter and not have what I had typed as the next letter in place (i.e. would
have come out something like "Aqswers questions appropriately", since I had
actually typed the letter q).
Kristen suggested that I e-mail the custom glossary that I am currently using,
which is attached to this e-mail and titled "XXXX2", and I mentioned to her
also that I have created several glossaries for the various doctors for whom I
transcribe, and that the problem will happen when using any of them. I am
using Word 2000 and Windows XP. My telephone number is (XXX) XXX-XXXX, and I
appreciate any help you can offer.
Thank you,
Kim Xxxxxx
I would include....see inside
Specialties, Methods of receiving/returning the finished product. Think about why you are in the field, and focus on those qualities, for example, if you really take pride in your work, then say so. Think about your resume and focus on your experience. I hope this is helpful! Wish ya' luck!!!
what does waiver include?
Just yesterday I asked at my doctor's office if when we sign the waiver giving "third parties" access to our medical records as needed to provide for our health care, would that also involve the transcription company of their choice. No one had an answer for me, as they do their notes by hand. BUT, they said they'd like to know and that that aspect of it had never occured to them. They suggested I contact their main office and inform them of the dangers of offshoring if they decide to do it. I intend to. No way I'm signing my own records over to offshore when I'm trying to hold them here in the US!!! Maybe they'd care; maybe not. But at least I will have made an effort to inform them.
Wow!! Did that include postage? nm

Does the class action include the DEP
platform? Somewhere, don't remember where now, I thought I read the class action was about the old platform MedRite and was for a certain range of years. Is there info out there that the class action pertains to DEP also?
No kidding. That would seem to include some pretty
nm
You will want to include information regarding the platform you are on, etc.
dd
It depends on what you include in that figure.
where you live, how many in your family and what you get for your money.
Rehab medicine will include PT, OT, sm
speech therapy, etc.
DocShuttle is 99, but that does not include waveplayer. sm
I just purchased DocShuttle and then had to purchase the Docshuttle waveplayer because it does not include the waveplayer, that is a separate purchase.
Yes, definitely include your templates in your counts. nm
xx
I would and I have. Include verification of the error. sm
I would suggest being very matter-of-fact about it, keep all emotion out of it, even you're really annoyed inside.
I think it should be changed to the basic 5, and include ERs (sm)
A lot of hospitals have their med rec dept MTs (or MTSO) do ERs, as well. Those reports are usually sort of a combination H&P, OP (minor procedures) and/or DS--more detailed than clinic SOAPs.
I forgot to include that in my post here.
I have already written my letter & in the beginning of it there is a brief outline & I included that & then I go on to talk about stuff in detail & I mention that in it as well. I hope you guys join me in doing this & can get some letters to me. I feel we can make a bigger impact if we all stick together & by sending a packet of a bunch of letters maybe our voices will be heard & something be done.
Turkey Day - In or Out?
I'm spending my first T-day with my family in 8 years! Yea! Hope my brother-in-law doesn't set the turkey on fire on his grill like the last time!
meant to include ebonics is used and accepted
in this town. The schools are 95% segregated in the town. Very old southern roots. They do not care for change. Teaching children to speak properly is considered taking away from their "heritage". Why we moved here? Not really sure. People are very nice though. You are in the minority if you can speak, write, or read properly. Also, it is 100 miles or so SW of Columbus, GA, 30 miles or so NE of Albany
I SO agree and some of the reasons this has happened include:
May I commend the poster for a very well-thought-out and thorough outline of the current state of affairs. You did an excellent job. Do not apologize for the length. It was necessary to be complete in your thoughts. You speak for all of the MTs in this regard.
It got me wondering about the following points:
1) Medical transcription company owners permitted the hospitals and doctors to dictate to them what they would be paid, instead of honoring the fee schedule of the MT owners and professionals. Are physicians told what they can charge per hour? No. They charge what they require. So do plumbers, housekeepers, etc. Years and years ago, the trend began where the transcription companies decided to accept what the hospitals would pay.
2) Hospitals and others have disrespected the medical transcription field. Someone allowed this to happen. Who would that be?
3) I do not see this sad state of affairs of this profession to be the fault of the working MTs at all.
4) Hospitals and clinics should be prohibited from sending work out of the country.
5) Medical transcription companies need to unite and charge an appropriate fee for their services, and likewise pass that increase on to the professional MTs performing the services.
I really think there needs to be a radical revolution of change.
What do you think?
Turkey dinner...
with mashed garlic potatoes, bean salad, stuffing, gravy, ham, buns....YUUMMMMYYY I am sooo hungry!!
Happy Thanks Giving!!
Yes, and I'm the one cooking the turkey
Don't think my guests would appreciate a "tofu turkey". I will do the whole traditional meal and those who choose not to eat the turkey will still have plenty.
Tofu turkey
Yes, Im a vegetarian. I usually make vegetables and potatoes, yams, etc., for Thanksgiving. Made a tofu turkey a few years ago and it was delicious. One year I bought Worthington Farms fake turkey slices and made some vegetarian gravy and we had *turkey* sandwiches, home made potato chips. I have been a vegetarian for 31 years, since I was a teenager.
Ok, are ya sick of turkey about now?
I forgot to include my hint of sarcasm phrase! nm
x
which is the most common that you use when flagging? do you include the time track?
I would include the why you're leaving part. They'll probably ask
s
It was very unprofessional for the dictating physician to include that statement.
I have never come across such a thing myself, but I wouldn't hesitate to type it.
turkey, rice and oatmeal
Don't know if it would help the gas problem, but when my dog got real old, he didn't want dog food, and I gave him turkey (vet said turkey very easy to digest) and rice, and he loved oatmeal. I'm all for giving an old dog whatever makes him happy.
the turkey produces its own liquid...
if you add chicken broth, be sure to only add a little- like 1/2 a cup.
My pet turkey, Bubba, died of
natural causes two weeks ago. He was about 50 pounds. His wife, though, Bubette, is still healthy and well. I guess she is a turkey widow now.
