you are the one making the money and doing the work and only you! We have all heard this kind of stuff. Just keep laughing all the way to the bank as you work at home. I am sure most of us who have made it in this business whether with our own accounts or a national (national for me and it can work) have heard all the put downs and negativity. Just ignore it all. You know what you can and cannot do! I think a lot of the negativity stems from jealousy whether admitted or not!

A lot of companies want people with experience and there are very few companies out there who will hire newbies, but they are out there. You have the terminology experience and you have the transcription experience, you just have to hit that right person on that right day who decides that you're worth taking a chance on . . . . . . or that they're desperate.
Right now may not be the best time to do it though, because of the economy. I have seen lots of comments on these boards that people are sending in resumes everywhere and not getting any kind of response, so I think the recruiters are overwhelmed right now.
If/when you do find a job, be prepared to not make much your first year. The companies that hire newbies tend to do so at a very low line rate. I sort of viewed it as what I needed to do to get that first year on the resume.
If you're serious about wanting to do this, send your resume to every recruiter out there. When I was first looking if they said they wanted two years of experience or less I sent them a resume. Most of them said no, but there was that one that said yes.

I am not defending Indian MTs, per se, but terrorists were here in the US... So, I guess I'm not getting why you feel that would mean our medical records are in jeopardy.  My heart goes out to those people. They did nothing wrong. I did read something that the attacks were meant for the US and Britons that were in India.

We are very fortunate, indeed. These no-mind brainless idiots could be right around us. We can't let them get away with it, no matter where. I never thought my beautiful, innocent first grader would come home and tell me they have to practice getting under the desk for cover, lock their door and stay under the teacher's desk if possible, should any "bad guys" come into their school. Heartbreaking. They may be preparing for the nuts who come to school with a gun but I hate to see this happening in little first graders lives. How sad! As much as I hate to see work going to India, I don't wish them any harm. It shouldn't happen to a dog, never mind people. I will pray for them because the shoe someday may be on the other foot, God forbid! Yes, they were targeting Brits and Americans, that's how much they hate us, but I'm sure some people from India suffered as well. Terrorists know no boundaries, all they want is "terror" and heartache.
I am thankful today for my freedom and for those who are putting their lives on the line to protect us. We live in a great country. Have a Happy Thanksgiving, even if times are tough, we have the privilege of living in a great country.

For a broader view for a greater understanding and perspective on some of these issues, I'd recommend starting with a good book or two. The World is Flat by Thomas Friedman offers a thoughtful--and very readable--view of globalization and outsourcing, for instance. For now, hoping our files will be "brought home," i.e., basically wishing our local hospitals still had to hire those of us who live within a commute of them, is pretty much like hoping computers will go away. I'd spend my time and energy elsewhere.

i have been through some rough times lately and had to apply for some help. there are signs, big signs, all over our offices saying "YOU DON'T HAVE TO BE LEGAL TO GET HELP". so we and our government do give them our benefits whether they are legal here or not. now that is messed up. i am helping to support them so they can take away my jobs and i can't even support my kids and yes i get benefits, wow $75 a month in food stamps which lasts not even a week in a household of 6. don't get me wrong, i am thankful for any help at the moment, but i get penalized for trying to work my tail off and still can't survive.
there was recently an article in our local newspaper where one of our local school districts tried to charge $1000 a year for each illegal student enrolled. it was bulked and the illegals got a lawyer to sue for discrimination. the school district merely stated that they had to HIRE extra teachers that could speak the foreign language just to teach these children and were trying to offset some of the expenses. ridicilous!! so again our taxpayers money is paying to educate illegals as well.

are not still doing any work for her. If you and she live in the same area, I would pay a friendly visit. It's very easy for people to ignore emails. If you speak with her face to face, even if she is unable to pay you during your first visit. She will find a way to get your money if she knows that you will come by again. I would continue to drop by occasionally and just say, I was doing a pick up in your area and thought I'd stop by to check the status of a few outstanding invoices. It couldn't hurt.
