Boyfriend who is depressed.
A great therapist I used to work for would tell folks in your situation, that you ARE not trained in counseling, therefore, you can not help him in the way he needs. It's just not your job so to speak. Go easy on yourself, it sounds like you have been very supportive, you now just need to decide how long your willing to do so.
You should take the boyfriend out of the equation. sm
I don't understand what you mean financially you can't leave? I'm a single mother (divorced) with twin boys age 11. My net income is about 2,000 a month and I get child support of $500.00 a month. I'm sorry but the phrase "I stayed because of the kids" is no good. I do believe you need an emergency fund.
My daughter is 10 also and just had her first boyfriend...
I was very upset about it at first. At my friend's suggestion, I sat down with my little girl and asked her exactly what she thought it meant to have a boyfriend. I asked her if they would be holding hands, if they would be kissing. She was shocked and a little embarrassed, but I'm glad we had that talk because I don't think it occurred to her that he might expect those things.
I also made it very clear that young relationships last days, not years. So, when he broke up with her after 27 days (she counted) she wasn't all that shocked and probably took it better than she would have if we hadn't talked about it.

Horizontally, but my boyfriend has to cut his off and eat it
He had his two front teeth knocked out as a teenager playing baseball. They fixed his teeth, but he can't bite down into anything like that...corn on the cob, apples, etc. So he cuts it off with a knife and eats it.
Please help with "discussion" with boyfriend (argument)
Boy, I love that this board is available. I'm an IC and only have catastrophic insurance so there's no mental health access available for me.
Anyway, here it is:
1. I've noticed over the years that my boyfriend has periods of what seems to be a depression. It impacts his treatment of me, it then kind of upsets our routine and, of course, it upsets me. It seems that NOTHING I do or say can get him out of it. In fact, the perkier or more cheerful I try to be, the more he withdraws (I must pretty get annoying, too, do ya think? with all that perkiness). So I just try to stay out of his way and it usualy doesn't last more than about 10 days, usually more like 3-4. Sometimes he can go up to as long as a month or two without one of these episodes.
2. When I try to talk to him about my concerns he generally goes into a denial thing. It's usually a given, with him, that anything wrong in our relationship or even sometimes in his relationships with others, is absolutely my fault, but that's another story. So when I mention casually or carefully that he seems down, is everything all right it kind of makes him get mad and aggressive and usually he will say "yeah, WHY?" kind of in an ugly way. So as I said, usually I say nothing. On occasion, he has admitted that he gets down at times but that's all he'[ll say, and then later he doesn't seem to remember that he admitted this.
3. A while back I approached him about his depressed mood and he got kind of defensive. I mentioned that he acts particularly down around his brother and that his brother had said that he noticed he seemed depressed quite a bit lately and thought he was "suicidal" although I think the brother was just kind of exaggerating on the suicidal thing. I only mentioned the brother commenting on his being down because, as always, my boyfriend usually denies any problem, and says it just my making things up.
4. Today my boyfriend got very angry that I had told him that his brother said he thought he seemed depressed - what kind of a girlfriend would mention something like that. I said "a caring one" and should I just "pretend nothing is wrong" and no one else sees this either? I said it wasn't meant to be an attack but a reaching out. A couple other folks have seen my boyfriend in his depressed state and commented on it also (I have never told him that). I said one of the reasons I mentioned his brother's comment was because he always negates what I say, tells me it's basically all in my head, nothing is wrong with him....blah-blah-blah.
5. He asked me how I would feel if my family talked to HIM about them thinking I was depressed. I said I would be touched and concerned and most of all would feel like they really cared about me. I certainly wouldn't be enraged. He says I am lying about that. He said it over and over that I couldn't possibly feel that way. I said that depression is not like calling someone dishonest or cruel, that it's out of that realm completely. That when people ask about how you are doing that they care about you. He laughs cruelly at me when I say these things. He also says this has driven a wedge into our relationship, that he can't trust me and that all I want to do say mean things about him. I say "huh, what in the heck are you talking about?"
6. Incidentally his sister committed suicide after cycles of depression for many years. The family knew she had problems but didn't really get involved or try to contact her or do an intervention in the weeks before her suicide. Most of all, they didn't talk to each other about what was going on either. I was thinking this was perhaps family tradition to turn away from highly charged emotional issues? I don't know, as I said, I don't operate like that. I'm more from the school of "hey, there it is - let's talk about it. But everytime I try to talk about it he denies it or tells me I'm lying.
HELP!!!!
DJ AM, nicole Richie's ex boyfriend
He's got a real manly look about him that must makes me melt!
My boyfriend ordered me flowers last week from....sm
1-800-flowers but they dropped the ball and still haven't delivered. They sent him an e-mail at 6:30 last night stating that they wouldn't deliver as promised yesterday and we've both had a lot of problems getting through to a "human" to get this resolved. They still haven't been delivered and it's now 1:15 p.m. the day AFTER Valentine's Day. So much for ordering ahead and paying an extra "delivery guaranteed on time" fee.
My daughter met her boyfriend on Myspace. He's an wonderful guy.
Be careful, yes, but don't automatically assume that everyone on a specific site is out to do harm. It just isn't so.
My boyfriend who is a school bus driver now makes more than me...
by $1.00 an hour. Only because they have a union, I guess, because the trend now would be to make them slave labor, as well....but their union holds on by a thread...
I have been an MT for over 14 years, started in the hospitals making what I make now, and am now working for a company (top of the line in the business) who says to stay competitive the MT pay has been cut. I was told to work more hours to make up the difference.
This is no longer a profession, and I think if we are suddenly required to be certified (which the AAMT is pushing very hard), I would highly contest this as I no longer consider myself a professional. We get paid only per line, lose our health benefits, if we do not work a required amount of hours, and are treated as laborers, not professionals.
Does anyone know, if any other 'professions' require certification for nonhourly positions, no guaranteed work, and no real long-term job security...
For myself, I can barely pay my rent now, there is no way I could afford a certification.
In other words, I would be expected to act as a professional, but would never ever be treated as one. I mean, what would WE get out of it?
Does anyone care anymore about people. When I first started working at 14, every job I ever had employees were always treated like they mattered...and were the heart of the job, the old 'we are nothing without the employees' - that is all thrown out like trash now and the mantra is we are nothing, we do not matter, we can be replaced, shut up and just do your work, your paycheck is your reward. What a bunch of crap and what a way to keep people down.
I was in shock when I saw my paycheck, and my boyfriend is making a whole dollar more an hour than I am...and that was a good, full 2 weeks of work for me, with the most lines I have typed since being with this company.
Can you imagine...
my boyfriend's union has helped him to be laid off 6 months this year already...
Sure Union's PROTECT the workers... okay that's fine. but they also do plenty of other stuff that is not cool with me. I like the idea of them getting paid a good amount for what they do, but then there are times when if something happens on a job, for example, two workers get in a fight, they may get fired from that particular job, but re-hired with another one that hires union workers. It makes no sense. Obviously I see the point of unions so workers are not taken advantage of... but like someone else posted, someone would sneak away to sleep during her job with the union. I mean, have you seen DOT workers? Cal Trans ? i dont think I EVER see them working and I'm gonna guess they are a union (although I can't be sure).
For sure transcription needs something, but I don't think a union is it. Although I don't think we will ever have anything to protect or help us... too little "higher up" people know the problem.
sitting in my computer room, typing away when my boyfriend at the time, called me from work. nm

What colors ....Any corvette is great but that stang is it
cars
I leased for 3 years and then bought a brand new one! Love the concept, that way I knew exactly what i wanted to buy!
Dog chasing cars
I have a little pomeranian. She is only little in size. In her doggy mind, she is a big bag dog and no car is too big for her. In the car, she will bark at big trucks, I am talking semi's like they better not mess with her. It is really funny to see. She also barks at her reflection. I sometimes feel like barking at my reflection too, so that we have in common. Your dog sounds great.
Cars on EBAY
I live in Georgia and already, drowned cars from Lousiana and Miss. are showing up as "good buys". Beware, once these cars are cleaned up, you will NEVER know they've been submarines in earlier lives. On the other hand, my son bought an awsome Audi out of Tampa, but that was before the hurricaines.
teens and New Cars
Yes, there are probably a few nice new cars the "sweet 16's" had given to them, more so probably out of the guilt the parents felt for not spending time with them or the parents need to "keep up" their own status. My niece was one of those....daddy bought his little girl anything she snapped her fingers for, she is 23, never went to college or held a job, but has a masters degree in partying and shopping. It's finally wearing thin on ol Pops and he gripes and complains but he set the standard the first time he gave in. Kids may not like you right now, but they will appreciate it more so when it's their hard earned money and feel a sense of accomplishment.
On the other hand, my kid who is 20, is still driving a used car and he now knows the benefit of it after 3-4, 5...can't even remember the count minor fender benders, no injuries except to his pride!
Teens are just learning how to drive, insist of driving with the damn cell phones to their ears and minds on anything but the roads, and as I put it, why take something brand new and bang it up? Save it till you have more experience, more of your own money and your insurance rates are lower. If my kid and his friends had stock in Maaco, they'd be young millionaires by now!
Remind her of that old saying, which I heard a zillion years ago when I was a teen "people in h _ _ _ want ice water but they don't always get it
Story about cars
My ex and I were divorced when my son was 11. We lived in the country so in order for my son to even get a job, he needed a vehicle. I bought him a used truck for about $2,000 which was all I could afford. It was a stick and he had a lot of trouble driving it. He was responsible for the gas and the insurance. When he graduated from high school, his dad gave him a card with a professionally made gift certificate in it that said "Good for one vehicle of choice." He even had it notorized and signed by an employee of a car dealer. He gave him the card at his graduation party in front of everyone so he (the dad) could look important. After the party, he called my son to tell him that that did not mean he could go out and buy a Corvette or anything like that. To make a long story short, when it came time for my son to get his car, he wasn't allowed to pick anything that he wanted, his dad decided on the vehicle, color, extras etc. I do not think we owe are kids a car though, just could not help sharing my story.
hybrid cars--anyone have one?
I'm looking to purchase a new car soon and being as how gas is already at $3 per gallon where I live, I'm certainly wanting to get something economical. I've been doing some research on the hybrid cars and am particularly interested in the Toyota Prius, as that one seems to be the best according to what I've found.
I'm just curious....Do any of you MTs have a hybrid vehicle and/or know someone personally who does? If so, do you like it?
rental cars
I am in Arizona and I usually have my best luck with Avis. Hey where are you in Arizona??
those cars are so cute
nm
So do you do that a lot? You own a big house? Have nice cars?
what-ever..big money my butt.
Wow! I just looked outside to see five cop cars parked
in front of my house. The one neighbor's teenager moved out, so I know it's not that. I wonder what's going down? Should I be ducking? LOL
i use GM mastercard w/rebates on new cars.
We have saved something like $8000 over last 10-12 years in rebates. We put most everything on there, gas, groceries, etc and it adds up. But we only have one card and pay it off every month too, so not sure about interest rates, etc. Can go to gmcard.com and see if it works for you.
Ever had a dog that "chases" cars "in the car?"
We just adopted a dog last month from the SPCA. She's a great dog, very young but past puppyhood, spayed, housebroken, sits, stays, everything you couuld ask for when getting a "used dog." BUT.... We've discovered that her hobby in the car is sitting by the window until a car passes and then "chasing it." She will take breaks and lay down and sleep for a while, but then gets back to her hobby. When we leave her in the car, she just sleeps, so she's basically a pretty good passenger other than the chasing. Anybody ever heard of this before?
I have leased 2 cars and have never had a bad experience. (sm)
Presently I lease a Trailblazer. No down payment, payments of $448 a month including an additional rider I chose for wear and tear coverage. 5 year lease. I can turn it back in 18 months early if I choose to. It's a nice way to get a higher end price car for lower payments.
There you go, lets have a thread about old cars!!!
yeah.
lines at the pumps, 2-3 cars long.
Yes, we swapped cars. DH drives my 4 cyl his 13 mi to work and I keep

There is also a limit. People in expensive cars
pulling up to stand in line for free money. Doctors and lawyers, supposedly respected business owners, etc who really did not lose that much, at least not to the point where they can't recover on their own. Help the ones who can't help themselves but the ones who can help themselves should be ashamed!
Go ahead and post stuff about your cars
but I doubt many people are interested in it, who knows, but I am sure that many many people want to talk about their animal companions, so if it does not interest you, SKIP it. That is why this is called the main board, many other boards on the left for you to get information on MTing, other than just the main board.
that's true, many new cars now offer great
I have a Toyota Corolla and my gas mileage is even better than the impressive Civic! I don't remember exactly what it is but I want to say around 38-41 MPG.
However, I would also love to eventually get away from traditional cars and more towards Hybrids or whatever else they come up with that will transition us away from oil dependency.
Car dealerships use dryer sheets in used cars.
After wiping what you can with the alcohol as suggested, put a few Bounce dryer sheets in the sealed trashbag.
So, this future generation of MT's all live in their cars?
Because don't forget - MT wages never go up, only DOWN, if any change at all. And cost of living keeps going up. What has gotten cheaper during the recession? NOTHING. What will get more expensive once the economy improves? EVERYTHING.
opps - I meant how will WE buy cars. Tired.
xx
My Rottie did that too, she sit in the back of my SUV and jump at the cars that passed or followed u
You'd hear her teeth hitting the window as she crashed into the glass. Then she'd get tired and lay down.
rich skanks dress better and have nicer cars and homes.
Good grief.. Fortunately ours is only chasing oncoming cars, so just

I can't stand it when parents spoil their kids with brand new cars....sm
especially since a lot of times the teenager ends up wrecking it because they don't care. Those I've seen that have taken better care of their vehicles and drove them properly were those that had some investment in a good used vehicle. They had to work to pay for the gas and insurance at minimum. That's what I did when I was a teenager and the only reason I got a car then was because I had an after school job and it was easier for my parents to help me get a vehicle than drive me back and forth.
Most men can't hear the tiny tings, noises that cars make, and things like
an alarm clock. A doctor I used to work for did the same thing in the bathroom too. But, I never heard a plop! Thank Goodness.
Since dont know of any cars that dont use

getting started
If you live in southern CA, on the job seeker board Chronicle Transcripts is hiring newbies. I used to be a lead transcriptionist for them when they were located in my town. Nice people and you will get very good training from them. What I have found is the smaller trans companies usually are willing to take in trainees or medical trans school graduates. Also, the federal govt and state govt have medical transcriptionists..You can check about testing with the govt. Good luck!
I have a BSN and started doing
MT due to the world's most complicated pregnancies - just couldn't be on my feet. At first, the $$ wasn't so great - impossible to transcribe much with a baby in the house. Every year tho I have made more than the year before. My boys are now 8 and 12 - summers are difficult but not impossible. I periodically look into going back into nursing, but the hassles it would entail just aren't worth the $$. I work about 5 hours a day and will end up making around $28 K this year.
I am 33 now and started at age
/
It's already started here.
Gas prices are up, groceries are up, other supplies are up. My brother is in construction and said that materials and wood prices have doubled in the past week. Our income is maybe half what it was just over a year ago because we've both changed jobs or had contracts end on us. We've had a lot of unexpected expenses recently that cleaned out all of our savings. Christmas is coming. School just started so we had to buy clothes and supplies there. I'm half-panicked here trying to find a better paying job than what I have now. I just really can't take a lot of time off for testing or post my resume because my current employer will know I'm looking for another job. Then again, I don't even know if it's possible for me to make more money at MT than I am now. I still don't see how people can do 250+ lph or make $30+ per hour. What do they have that I don't? Length at employment? More word Expander entries? A better account and platform?
when i started doing ASR
mgmt told me that 'down the road' there would be 'adjustments' in the pay for ASR, after people were well-trained and productive on it. I later opted out -- didn't like it at all. HOWEVER, if it is in fact so much quicker (as it was said to be) for the MT to do those reports, then it stands to reason that you would not be paid the same at the same rate as someone transcribing a report from scratch. I don't see what the problem is about the purported pay reduction. Just consider what you've been getting as 'gravy' and what you will be getting as fair. Then again, if you don't want to do ASR, then opt out.
Also just started with them...
:)
You started it now !!

I just started a new job.
I was hoping this would be THE job. I told myself that this is the very last MT company I will try to work for. Unfortunately, I'm experiencing the same things at this company that I quit other nationals for. I don't know what to do. I'm tired of job hunting, learning new platforms, and trying to adjust to multiple account specs. I'm tired of being told that "we're different" or "we are the best" only to find that it's no different or better. I don't know if I should stick this one out in the hopes that it will get better or go get a job as a waitress. This really stinks with Christmas coming and bills to pay. I really wanted this to work. What else is there for me, though? I don't want to go back to the fulltime, nose to the grindstone, kids in daycare garbage. I really enjoy MT, too.
Started at 4:00 a.m.
Delivered newspapers, did MT for 4 hours, went out for a few last minute things, went grocery shopping, finished wrapping presents, finished crocheting my new grandson's baby blanket, cleaned the kitchen did the dishes and looked after my 2-year-old terror twin granddaughters for 2 hours before I finally called my daughter at 6:00 p.m. and said, "COME AND GET THEM."
I love them dearly, but they are 175% wired with the whole Christmas thing and I am just getting over the flu.
I know, I know. . . .I'm TYPE A all the way.
I can't believe I've made it this late. I'm going night night.
Started out....
I started out with MT on a selectric II. We used carbon paper for copies and no more than 2 corrections were allowed per page (original was corrected with white out, the rest had to be erased with that special little typewriter eraser). I learned very quickly to be accurate and proofread as I transcribed.
We also had no Stedman's word books in those days - just Dorlands, a little red book called Surgical Secretary or something like that, Tessier's, and a couple of others - about 5 or 6 books in total.
We used to call pharmacies to ask for spelling of new drugs, called Surgery and Central Supply for spelling of new equipment, new dressings, etc.
I worked in a large teaching hospital. We had access to the doctors and more than 1 time I had an MD standing behind me looking over my shoulder while I typed his report!
