Ella, you have retired, so this is for the working MTs
I fully understand the theme here. If you want to hobnob with Indians or other ethnic groups, fine. To sit here and be swamped with people who cannot speak English and we have to be letter perfect on everything, no wonder we have these feelings. Go back to knitting now, ok?
Anyone else tired of working for nothing?

It just seems like I can't make good money anymore (or at least not what I'm used to).  I work for a pretty nice company doing clinical dictations with 24-hour TAT, but I just don't seem to be getting anywhere.  Maybe it's just the way of the economy right now.  I've been doing this for 10 years and feel like I shouldn't be struggling at this point.  I'm just frustrated!!!!

anyone else tired of working for nothing
I totally agree with you.  I see nothing wrong with asking about pay.  I especially would like to know where the MT works who makes $3000 a month. I am really struggling right now and have over 25 years of experience.  Mostly because of account specifics.  Different clients with different account specifics really brings down your line count!!  I saw one MT who was making $50,000 a year.
maybe it's just a tired supervisor who can't get those fingers working
Or do supervisors have to know how to type at all?  Just want a different job in MT field that's all and no smart A$$ answer from a "thinging" supervisor.
I agree. Did poster just get tired of working &

Yep. She got tired of working and had her daughter deployed
Nice.
Go to bed. Get off the thread. You're tired alright. Looks like you have been working
all day trying to defend MQ. Get some rest. When's second shift coming to relieve you. Hope they have something more original to say. RIGHT? Whoops, my caps are starting to run away with me and I can't stop myself...... I have been reading too many of the multiple personality CAP person's posts. HELLLLLLLLPPPPPPPPPPP
Working 2 full-time jobs (for a year now), and boy am I tired!!
.
I get tired of daily grind. I get tired of having

horrible dictation/dictators and not able to produce lines, which directly affects my paycheck.  I don't mind doing the difficult stuff, and I pretty good at it, but it is stressful and I find it very hard to budget when you never know what your paycheck is going to be.   I hate being tied to having earphones on all day.   I have children at home (I homeschool and don't have toddlers running around) and my DH works third shift so he is home during the day.  I try to work around all this, but can't always.  If I had a "desk" job I could be part of conversations at least, but having to have the earphones on you can't do that.   I get tired of being sedentary, my feet swell, my shoulders are tired, my elbows hurt, etc.

I stick with it because of my children, and also because I like the flexibility.  I don't have to be up at 5:30 to get the kids up and ready for school, I don't have to fight traffic to get to work at 8:00.  It is a trade-off.   Sounds like you just need a break.

You really should NOT participate in a forum:

eewww!!

My parents are retired and
do very well on their savings. It's called preparation. People make their own choices. If you don't PREPARE and do not take RESPONSIBILITY, you will eventually be in such a sad situation. It's not anyone's fault but their own for making poor decisions or failing to make better ones.

Morally, yes - I think other aid should become available to the "mom and pop" situation you are talking about but not reporting and paying taxes on income? No. That is wrong, period.

My boys were taught to pay taxes on their incomes from various jobs. They paid taxes and they paid tithes on it, no matter what it was.

It's called DOING THE RIGHT THING...which seems to be a forgotten concept among the older ones and a brand-spanking new concept among the young ones.

Tax evasion, dear, is ANYONE who fails to report appropriately. They may spend the bulk of money going after big bucks tax evaders but the crime is still the same. It is dishonest and it cheats every loyal, law-abiding citizen.

It doesn't matter if the job is easy or or not (i.e., your reference to house cleaning not being easy). THat has nothing to do with whether a person deserves to report/pay taxes on their income or not.
My mom is a retired teacher, so that was something

we never said at home.  But as much as I have tried to correct my youngest, he  still uses it.  And he and my husband say, That DON'T matter. Yikes.  doesn't doesn't doesn't.  It DOESN'T matter!

You know, when you type doesn't that many times, it no longer looks like a real word.  I double checked the spelling and I'm still not sure it's right.

I had someone tell me they wanted to do this when they retired sm
I said, then start your training NOW you don't have a minute to waste. She said she was retiring in 2 yrs. I said, good you almost have to get trained. She asked me about what she might make money wise. I said about $4 an hour for the first 6 months to a year. Screw that, she said, I thought you just sat and typed...

I love the tape in the purse idea! That IS priceless. My kids can tell you...mom works at home, all we see is the back of her head and all she says all day is "BE QUIET." Their friends used to say, yeah but your mom is home. They would say that her body might be here, but her mind isn't. All the lights are on, but there ain't nobody home! Exactly.

How old is your husband and is he retired
You saying on AARP- is this to supplement Medicare or just regular insurance? A family member has this coverage with her Medicare but I had no idea they had such strong regulations.
Right, retired in 2006...sm
Due to medical problems, and I am certainly not up on the latest technology or who is getting what type of work. When I retired, V/R was just becoming widespread and I never was involved in it. I just loved the ESLs, but maybe they have gotten worse/more careless/truly don't GAS. My sister had one that I could hardly understand either.
Retired Devoted Transcriptionists
Good for that lady, it is possible to work that long and work well. She is in Heaven with the saints. I am retired but not "dead." I would love to transcribe part-time but when they see the dates in my work history, for some reason they treat me like I am already dead. I have so much to offer. I was self-employed for a long time and did very well in my business from tapes. If someone would give me a break and let me practice doing it over the "Net", I would do it for free until I got it down pat if I had to. I can't think of a better way to spend my retirement years than to keep on working part-time. Now in my retirement, I would love to work from home part-time over the Internet. I am HIPAA aware and abide by all the rules. I love transcription, have the speed and knowledge to do many accounts, even acute care, etc. However, when I apply, I cannot describe to you in adequate terms how I am treated when I show interest in a part-time job in my profession.  I have so very much experience, strength and love for my profession that it is like a fire in my belly. However, no one seems to want to accommodate someone who only wants to work part-time and they look at me as though I'm nuts to want to work at my age (60's). Their loss. Is there anyone else out there who feels the same way? Are we all just from the days of yore and useless?  I am a  a perfectionist at everything I do. I had to give up my self-employment for personal reasons and have been on a few interviews in which I was treated badly.  I sure do feel like I've been "dumped" by the very profession I threw my heart and soul into, maintaining my CMT, etc., until several years ago, only to be trash heaped. Sorry, just venting. I would just like to know if there are other people of retirement age in the same boat. I have a young mind, a great attitude, and a youthful outlook. I won't lie about my age and I won't lie about how I feel. Abandoned.
Mine is a Retired Old Fart

my dad retired at age 66, but I do not remember the year.--sm
he passed on when he was 72, which was six years ago. He definately had restrictions.
At one time, I was an MTSO, but sold & retired from
MT last year.  I do, however, still own, operate, and offer MTStars to American MTs.
Dont know when he retired but there is absolutely without a doubt no
restrictions put on after full retirement age. Perhaps you thought he had full and did not have- have spoken to 2 people from social security about this- learned most recently as of 1/2008. How old was your father when he retired and what year, if you know, was that?
Retired fire captain. His pension is doing it's thing for us, thank God! nm

Retired or retarded? Anyone can retire if they set their life standards low enough
BUt if you think sitting on the couch pointing fingers at how bad the government is constitutes a wonderful successful life, good for you!

I'm not the one complaining about how bad things are, YOU are!

By the way, precious. I don't have to work, I want to, and am no longer an MT because I've gotten an education and moved on to a productive life with goals that stretch beyond the living room and the computer room.

Get over yourself. No one is impressed because your life certainly does not sound impressive in the least.

I once watched a retired FBI profiler who studied the case SM
and found evidence of a break-in from the basement window. He took pictures, explained his theory, showed how somewhat could have broken in, hid under a bed. He theorized that the intent was not to kill her, but to rape her. Probably someone who was the house that night. I forgot the profiler's name, but it was an interesting show. Very sad, sad case.
A contact of mine worked for them for 6 years w/o probs, FT. She retired from them, too. nm

Stop trying to stir up trouble. Goldbird is a moderator and retired MT. She and

,
Ditto....granted I am not working much these days, but am currently trying out a new way of working
when I do work which seems to be helping.  I am timing myself and keeping a log of how long it takes to to type however many minutes.  I am averaging anywhere from 13-18 minutes of dictation an hour now doing this.  Granted the time fluctuates between who I am typing, and if I have to look up names, addresses, etc., just depends on the division I am doing at the time.  But work that used to take me 3 hours to do is now taking me under 2 hours, I am also trying to put in more macros as I go along, which slows me down initially but pays off in the long run of course.  I was working "all the time" before but took forever to get done since I was not applying myself. This new "attitude" has helped me a lot.  My goal, in the Fall, is to do 90 minutes a day consistently at 6 hours, and then maybe get up to 120 minutes a day at 8 hours, still while having at least half of the day free (do 60 minutes at night, and the other 60 by Noon).  Thereby doing 1200-1400 lines a day.  I have never really buckled down and done more than 8000 lines per pay period, so it will be a nice change.  Maybe you can do something like that and have a specific knock off time as was suggested below.
Working holidays? Out shopping in stores where someone IS working

that holiday you refuse to work?  Grocery stores, food joints & seems any store is open on holidays and you expect them to be fully staffed, so why shouldn't we?

Yes, I took off for the first time on Christmas day, in 18 years and it was great, but I worked Christmas eve and this whole past weekend.

Someone has to do it!

old and tired
maybe you need the 14 bucks an hour to pay for those conference calls. i hear the editors have to pay for them all by themselves.
Thank you Tired... :)

tired of it sm
Not asked or told to do this.  Told they are "sound file reconversions" where the sound file is "fixed" and then the report goes back in the pool.  Sorry don't buy it.  If the sound is that bad, why do the report?  Why not send it to get the sound file "fixed" at the beginning?  Think its someone trying not to send something to QA.  They are always the difficult dictators.  Also was told that the sound file issues were resolved.
You are SO right... I get so tired of...
listening to people complain about this country.. We have it so good here that we are totally spoiled.  It's shameful.  If these people would take a tour around the world and then come back here and compare our medical care, they would stop this nonsense.  Even in developed countries like Italy, things are a little weird.  I lived there 20 yrs ago and a friend had a car accident and ended up in an Italian emergency room instead of the army hospital.  The treatment?  A big glass of wine while sitting in the hallway waiting forever to be seen.  Forget the undeveloped countries, they barely have anything.  Even in Britain their facilities are not quite what we expect here.  We are spoiled.
tired
definitely feel the same way. 23 years is long enough. wish i could do something else that made this kind of money.
.......tired!

I get tired of....
being sneezed on.  First of all, it hurts my ears if it is too explosive and secondly, I feel like I need a shower.  Is it too hard to turn your head and/or hold the phone away from your face?
tired QA
You were "not so perfect" at one time yourself......so unless you have a masters degree, don't be so critical i.e, you have been there yourself. Beside, if it were not for mistakes or uncertainty, you would not have a job either!
Like I said - I'm tired of them not

speaking English to a point where you can at least "partly" understand.  My job is to type what I hear.  I'm not trying to "turn their accent into English anymore!"  -- I don't get paid enough "downtime" to figure this out!  --  Especially at $10/$11 an hour!!!!!

can you tell how tired I am right now
actually, I did not "do" her . . . I did do some work for her though -- and still do sometimes
Tired..
Sure understand your feelings of delight with your grandchild. I feel the same way about my 2 grandsons, and over the years have barely been able to hang onto transcription at home while providing them with everything under the sun to keep them busy while I attempted to work. They also have turned out to be very artistic and creative. They are 11 and 14 now. The main thing for me was a HUGE amount of patience and not getting stressed when they interrupted, just smile and as quickly as possible return to typing. I did "interact" with them face-to-face every 15 minutes for a couple of minutes when they were little, and it seemed to work best when I worked in the same room they were playing in. Of course, at 3 they started pre-kindergarten, so there were 3 free hours to work, then soon enough all-day school. They finally learned to not over-do the interruptions as they got older (one thing was when they understood they get to buy "toys" with the money I am mysteriously making.) I really do not think there is a "balance", I just keep trying. Also I think there is a "bit-of-a-difference" between grandparenting and parenting rules. (If we don't make our kids TOO mad at us!) We really get to do all the good stuff and joy!!
tired of this
This job does render us socially isolated unless we make real efforts to make friends and our lack of friends makes us rather vulnerable too, i.e. husband attacks and no one to come to our rescue. Your husband sounds rather immature and you seem to be in the role of his wife/mother. You certainly deserve a break. My first and only marriage ended because I was in the same situation. Now I am alone but at least I can be free from the tyranny of a man/boy so to speak. It's your call. Weigh the pros and cons and then take some action.
I'm tired of MTs who cannot SM

look up the simplest things and who leave 20 or 30 blanks in a report.  When I was an MT, if I sent ONE job to QA in a month I felt like I failed, but today's MTs have no pride in their work at all.

tired
I've recently been sending applications and resumes to non-transcription companies locally. Guess what. They see on my resume that all I've done for the past 20 years is transcription, and they don't think I'm capable of anything else! It's very disheartening.
Tired of sitting
I can stand to sit for just so long and then I have to get up and move around. Sitting and pounding a keyboard makes me more exhausted than if I was doing something physical. When I am doing something physical, I feel much better and am not as cranky.
Tired of being yanked around
I have discovered that when I am zooming right along on my regular account, all of a sudden-- I'm on two or more totally different accounts, which really slows me down as I am not used to them.  This especially happens to me working late at night or on weekends.  I think I am the only "sucker" who is working, so the person or persons in the office take this opportunity to assign me other accounts to work on.  It is SO frustrating!  I need to make my line counts and this is certainly not helping!  I have sent emails to the office and they claim it is to keep the TAT under control, but the accounts that I am assigned are not anywhere NEAR out of TAT.  It is a "control" issue or what???
tired of this weather
i never thought i would say it, but it is just too hot for me.  It has been high 90s here all summer and humid.  It usually isnt this hot here.  I want fall to come with some high 50 to low 60 degree weather.  CANT WAIT.  I need cozy days and comfort foods!
Tired of the whining and here is why.
If you check out the posts, you will see what we are talking about.  MQ MTs whine about the horrible company they work for but don't leave.  I am angry that the "sit back and take it" attutude they have makes all hard working MTs look bad.  I for one know I am worth more than having to put up with being used like slave labor.  Even if it means working two jobs, it is better than just sitting back and whining but doing nothing about your plight.  And with that being said, no one is saying they should not be able to beat the dead dog amoungst themselve, they just need to take it to a blog, so we don't have to be witness to it.  And btw, i DO work two MT jobs.
Tired of being at home
Does anyone else out there find they get sick of working from home?  I get depressed sometimes.  I do not have children yet and my husband works about 12 hours a day.  I am usually by myself all the time and I have been doing this for 5 years.  Got any words of encouragement or advice?
