I too have high QA scores but the QA
percentage is killing me (over 30%). When work is low I am reluctant to take on another acct because once again all would go to QA and affect that percentage. I have decided to just type and not worry about my QA percentage for now, just continue to type and send quality work (of course when there is work).
With all these high IQ scores....
we have some serious underachievers here!!!!!!!!
DW Stars. Drew was great! watch tonite for scores. nm

Neither IQ scores nor test scores
determine our place in life. It's not the cards you are dealt but the way that you play them that counts. AND BTW just remember that half of the docs (and lawyers, etc) out there graduated in the bottom half of their class. Something to think about.
I agree - high-speed cable is great....
I use Adelphia and am very pleased. They offer an introductory rate of $26.95/mo. for first 6 months, and were recently also offering a $50 Visa gift card for "joining". The fee after that is $44/mo., I believe, but you can group it with a digital cable package and save more money. I have been very pleased with their reliability thus far. I went with them literally from day one when they came to my area, and at first the outages were frustrating, but now it is extremely rare for them to go out at all (knock on wood!!!!).
Really well tuned expander, high lph, national with great bonus plan. sm
That's really it. No secrets I can think of. Familiarity with accounts, helps, but not essential, at least to me.
No regrets here
I'm a graduate from 2005 and have been very happy -- no regets here.
I wish you luck in your future endeavors. :)
No regrets with CS here either.

No regrets at all (sm)
When my first child was born, I went back to work after maternity leave and HATED it ... I cried when I had to take him to daycare (even though the daycare he went to was a rarity ... outstanding, clean, wonderful caregivers and I had absolutely no concerns for his safety or well being). When he went to preschool, I went down to part time so I only worked the hours he was there and when he went to kindergarten, I got an at-home job and have been home ever since. (He's in college and my other one is in high school).
I MIGHT go out to work when my last one graduates but I have no regrets being home for them while they were in school ... if they forgot something, needed to come home or even being here when they got home from school so they weren't "latchkey kids".
Hope that helps!
I graduated CS and do have regrets
The reasons are the same as you have read elsewhere. There are no instructors, but rather an impersonal "grader" that you aren't quite sure you can trust since what might be right one time is wrong the next. There are errors in the material that can make you end up looking like a fool. I had nitroglycerine in my spell check on word for a year before I realized I had added it from a cut and paste report taken out of FOMS and was incorrect. Of course, that is only one example of many. I could go on and on, but I won't. All in all, it is inferior, and I wish I had gone to M-Tec or Andrews so that I could have started out excellently instead of clawing my way there of my own volition.
No regrets whatsoever
I was tickled pink to leave the office and come home to work! I would not trade my job for 10 office jobs. My main problem is that my relatives do not realize that I can't drop my work to go pay a bill or run to an appointment with them/for them. As far as the lack of socialization - I am out when I want to be. I do spend some days in my PJs, and really don't see the need to change that. I get out to do things with my son, such as movies or lunch. I meet friends for lunch. I have a playdate scheduled with about 10 other moms for us to have a picnic and let the kids play at a local park with a pool. You make an effort to get yourself out when you work at home. It is as much a necessity as breathing, for me. I think the benefits of being home outweigh the drawbacks, big time.
Yes, I love it and have no regrets. The positives
far outweigh the negatives, and my kids are now MTing as well and loving it. I can honestly say at approx 50 years old that I would not have changed a thing. I worked in-house til my kids were born, and have been home since. In-house was great experience, and then transitioning to home was wonderful! :-) Feel free to write if you are interested in any details. I obviously believe 100% that there is a future for MTing, or would not have trained my children. I love my job and my career.
Career Step...Regrets?
Anyone go through the Career Step course and then regret it?
Took me 18 years. No regrets, no nylons, no dresses :)
MT IQ scores
Wow. I caught this while looking for something else. The impression I get is that the poster who talks about pathological liars is insecure and probably does have a low IQ score. My husband is at genius level, 179. I'm only 136. What matters is we know our terminology, grammar, sentence structure and how to use a computer and dictation equipment. :-)
I'm sure she has the QA scores to prove it.
Otherwise, she'd wonder how she was doing instead of speaking the truth.
Just curious - just where is everyone getting their scores?nm
zz
SAT scores aren't everything.
In my other job, I work with colleagues who are current and past admissions officers for several prestigious universities. They have told me time and time again that although SAT scores are considered when reviewing an applicant, they are far from the most important determinant of acceptance or denial.
Yes, it's unfair that someone can manipulate the testing system, but no one gets in to college based on SAT scores alone. You've got to have the grades, recommedations, achievements, etc., to back it up.
QA scores vs limits vs less money for MTs and QA
In new QA plan, if MQ pays on your QA score and limits the amount of reports you can send to QA (was it 15%?) doesn't that essentially cut down on QA personnel and while looking for an excuse to pay you less and it is contingent on QA and percentage of reports sent to QA, MQ wins again in its master plan to pay MTs less and eliminate jobs.
Then think about this. If you must proofread every report to get required QA and must relisten and reread difficult reports because you have limits as to what you send to QA, how much of a pay cut is that for MTs?
MQ SUCKS!
That was the old advice before FICO scores came out.
The new advice is to leave some of them open. You want to show that you have credit available to you, but that it's unused. Having just a few maxed out accounts or having no credit cards is bad now.
Genius IQ scores are not the issue!
I know, and apparently you do as well; life and the decisions we make are what makes us what we are, not our IQ score! There are lower scoring IQ docs and lawyers out there that worked their tails off to be what they are. IQ scores didn't do it for them. My problem is not with the IQ score, it is with the PERSON having a genius IQ score who thinks they are "something" because of a number.
My company minimum is 98.5, my scores are
consistently 99.9. My company doesn't count off for punctuation, although they will make corrections to it. I get daily feedback. I get my corrected reports and I also get access to the audio. The last day of the month we get a report that shows us lots of information and also gives us our QA score. If you drop below the minimum you are given a warning and given 2 weeks to do better. If you do better they will work with you, if you don't do better you get axed.
My work is good, but not perfect. When we get corrected reports there are many categories in which they take off points. Rarely do I have a critical error, but I frequently have minor errors, some just careless, some because account specifics changed and I didn't preview them before starting work and unaware of updates - all that said I still make 99.9, so I would think I would have to make lots of errors or serious errors to get even 98.5 with my company. If you're only making 97% and you are getting regular feedback make a list of errors and keep them where you can see them regularly. If you are consistently misspelling a word or not capping, etc. put it in your expander. You should also do a 100% review with the audio for at least a few days so you can see where you are making mistakes and they will become habit to check for, or when you make errors automatically correct them at the time.
If your errors are because you don't know terminology get a notebook and write down things alphabetically. If you are pretty much using the net for all you reference sources be sure you have some good websites as there is a lot of misinformation out there.
I don't know about the over-inflated IQ scores on this board (LMBO)
Pathological liars
Self absorbed
Wannabe
and very VIVID IMAGINATIONS!!!
the list goes on! LOL!
I would think that our QA scores honestly reflect the quality of our work
and are not infuenced in any way by how we interpret the status you may or may not hold. Hopefully, you are not basing QA statistics on whether or not you like a certain MT's attitude about you.
Our school has good scores but my kids have never been stressed
Probably depends on the teachers and the corporate culture at your school.
Why not mention the other side? That MQ payes BONUSES FOR GOOD QA scores!
Whine, whine, whine, but those who are GOOD get $$ for good QA scores! Improve your skills, make more $$, and whine less!
We met in high school. My high school sweetheart
introduced us in a discussion over Ford versus Chevy versus Dodge. I used to race my Dodge Coronet with oldstyle 318 V-8 engine against the guys on the back roads and old highways. High school boyfriend had a Chevy truck. DH had a Ford Fairlane and later an AMC Javelin that just made me swoon. We didn't actually start dating until three years later, and my old high school boyfriend was a bit surprised at that since he introduced us.
Saw him on CMT show with John Fogarty. Great, great singer with a neat personality and drop dead
gorgeous without seeming to know it.
Great post. I swear by both Advantage and Frontline Plus-- both work great! - sm
I don't know about "natural" approaches for the house. I have always used flea bombs in the past before the miracle of Advantage and Frontline changed my life. Have not had a flea problem at all since I began using those products about 10 years ago, dose all the dogs religiously once a month with the Frontline Plus except in Dec.-Feb. to save a few bucks and because the ground is generally frozen by then and no fleas are scurring about. -- Hope you get flea free soon.
Thanks to all. Got some great feedback and ecouragement. This board is great.
My rant passed, ate a late lunch, now back to the trenches.
GREAT GREAT SHOW! I still think Ellen Pompeo
should have gotten the Emmy/Golden Globe whatever it was for the show. I like Sandra Ho, her character just needs more depth... Next week looks AWESOME!! Maybe there is still a chance for McDreamy!! First season DVD coming out with deleted scenes! Can't wait to get it & watch it!!
It is a GREAT company and great deal! I've had
Vonage about 6 months now and I love it. The only mistake I made was trying to keep my original phone # - I wouldn't recommend that. You have a temp # for a while, and the other provider can fight for the old #, etc. Go to vonage. com. They have new features all the time! There is even a new soft phone that is a phone on your screen. You don't need a real phone when working - just headset. It has 800 #s you can have very inexpensively - great voice mail. You get emails when you have new messages, etc. I only wish I had used them a year ago! Nothing but good things to say, and I complain about everything!
Sounds like he will do great then. Again, best wishes for great success!

That's great Patti. Thanks. Have a great time at the beach.

You should feel great as a transcriptionist if they think your work is that great!!!
It is not your fault they approached you. I think it would be a different storey if you were the one searching for the job to take away from a company. They obviously want to get rid of the company and if you didn't take the job they would probably ask someone else. You should enjoy the better position and not feel guilty!!
Great post -great job of wording your answer! (sm)
Original poster - I completely agree with this answer, especially the part about finding yourself and using all that you have learned intellectually and connecting that to something that you will also enjoy with your heart!! You have so many wonderful options for your future - much more than many of us.
IT - great program, great support system. nm

Thanks for all the great advice! You guys are great!

How about a High Five??!!
nm
high 5!!
...Right on! I think many people who are gay bashers are really terrified of the unknown, terrified because they link gay people with sexual criminal behavior - pedophiles, rapists, you name it. I would not expect less of a gay person than I would a straight person when it comes to character and ethics. It is sad to see how many people are terrified of gays because they believe they have an "agenda" - out to turn the world gay!! haha!
It should be pointed out here that many gays have desires and needs just like us straight people - want to be loved, want to belong to someone, want to be committed to one person, want a home and family just like us. That should tell us something, right? Hey, for that matter, there are lot of straight people who will never want to settle down, love sleeping around, live a promiscious lifestyle, but it is only when that occurs in a gay person that it is magnified.
People can be so naive. Throughout time there have been gays in every walk of life - high ranking powerful politicians, ministers, high ranking military men, etc. Some just choose to keep it a secret. Just as I expect my straight friends to have character and ethics, so do my gay friends.
Judge people on their character, their morals, their ethics, not whether they are gay or straight.
high 5!!
...I knew there was a reason I liked you... fellow Leo
P.S. - coincidentally just before I came to the board I just popped in a CD of the 5th Dimensions - remember "Age of Aquarius? That's too funny!

*High-Five*!!! LOL!

Very high indeed!
I've never heard of anyone making more than .02-.03/cpl off of their subs. I'd say for you to either make some rules (times they can call, etc) and define exactly what you are willing to do for them. If they say no and you really don't care for the account any longer, then just let it go. If you really do want to keep it, the only thing I can suggest is to concentrate on how much YOU are making (and if it's worth it) instead of concentrating on how much THEY are making.
50% to me is very high
I could not look in the mirror if I took 50%, even beauticians when they used to work in a shot got 70/30 and they used the equipment of the shop. If she handles everything but the invoicing I feel you are taking advantage of someone and hopefully you can live with yourself and look in the mirror. I usually do 80/20 but then I pick up the tapes and deliver them to the IC, proof the work and invoice out, do all contact with the account. But to each their own.
wow... is it that high?
I'm making 10 cpl with my hospital and 12 CPL for my doctor's Office
which is 65 character line including spaces
However my office is now deciding they want to pay me a different way since we are completely switching systems and there is no way to do a line count... and now I HAVE NO idea how much to charge because he is thinking by the "minute". well I make almost ALMOST $2.00 a minute and haven't had a raise in seven years, so I'm really at a loss of what to do.
Oh I work for companies in California. Do you live in FL or CA or I don't understand... i mean when I look at the big companies they offer 7 or 8 CPL... am I missing something?! LOL good luck :)
Okay HIGH FIVE!! ROFL

it could be due to the high turnover,
miserable platform, and low pay on the VR programs, and just generalized problems in the company, couldn't it?
with the gas prices going sky high and, therefore, (sm)
the prices of food and other items more than likely going to skyrocket, what is everyone doing to plan for this?
Wow! and I thought $3.19 was high. This is
insane. Thank goodness I've been working at home for the past year. My hubby has been at a job 3/4 a mile up the street for a year now too. A year ago we were both out of town and putting 100 combined miles a day just for commuting to work. I cringe to think how much that would cost us.
Good thing hubby can walk to work. Motor blew in our 2001 Ford ZX2. Maybe it was a good thing? Anybody out there need non-motor parts? Four brand new tires, new power steering pump, new struts, bearings, front and rear brakes, tie rod ends, fuel filter and windshield all in the past 6 months. One thing we forgot was the timing chain and that went and ruined the engine.
Don't really need a car for work and I'm serious considering not even bothering to buy another one right now.
High Level 4
I don't know if we're allowed to post it or not on here, but it's very decent for the MT world, plus they supposedly do raises periodically without you having to beg.
