I work really hard to make my work accurate, spending probably too much time researching. I read medical books for fun and learning on my own time, and I am very particular. However, I see stuff all the time that indicates that a lot of MTs don't care too much about quality or don't know how to achieve it. I wonder about legal liability and the safeguards in place in hospitals and nursing homes to make sure meds are correct, etc. I personally do not think MTs have ultimate responsibility for patient safety and if we do accept this onus, we are going to start getting sued for malpractice and having to buy insurance, which I don't think we should have to do. Just some of the things I wonder about and wanted to get opinions, especially from people with hands-on patient care experience. Thanks again for writing back and explaining.

well i have no other explanation
They may use AntiVirus but I am telling you that I have downloaded other test audio files with no problem at all in the last 2 weeks. After doing their files and the freezing I found a bunch of stuff on my computer. I do not care what the files attached to the email were, I did not attempt to open them - there were 3. There was no reason for anything to be attached to this email given its content.
Oh, okay, thanks for the explanation, but...
I don't think I have ever done what Jacy did. Yuck, that's against my nature. I welcome all your advice and would like to thank "Brenda" especially for the e-mail. Nice, very nice. Much appreciated, as is all your support and advice. *Jodi*
Another explanation could be....
In my experience as a manager of a national company, very often the hospitals don't send a lot of work during the week (seemingly because their staff is there and doing most of the work) and then by the end of the week, they realize that they can't keep up with the volume, so they dump it beginning on Thursday or usually Friday, just in time for the weekend.
This is one of the reasons why so many services encourage their MTs to work at least one weekend day. Hospitals do the weekly "dump" of work on Friday. It's very typical and unfortunately, a real problem for both the national company as well as the MTs who work for them.
Explanation
FTP, or File Transfer Protocol, is a means of transferring files via the Internet. Each method of communication on the Internet is called a "protocol." When you send e-mail, you sent it using the SMTP (Simple Mail Transfer Protocol) protocol. You probably receive e-mail using the Post Office Protocol (POP). Web sites use the HyperText Transfer Protocol (HTTP).
These protocols tell computers what kind of information is being transferred and how to handle it.
FTP has been around since the early days of the Internet. Very simply put, it allows you to send a copy of file to a FTP "server" or computer that knows how to receive and manage FTP protocol files. Your computer is considered the "client" computer; that is, you can send and receive files from an FTP server, as long as you have client software that can communicate in the FTP protocol.
SFTP is "Secure File Transfer Protocol," meaning that all files transferred between a client and server are encrypted to prevent others from seeing or "sniffing" the contents of the file. Now, this doesn't mean the files are encrypted on the FTP server. If a hacker can access the server, or others at the FTP server firm has access to the server, the files are as readable as they are on your computer. But, with SFTP, as the file is in transit through the Internet, reading the file is next to impossible.
Many MT's use FTP or SFTP to transfer digital voice files and documents between themselves and their providers. Great caution should be used when using and FTP service, as there are so many ways such a set-up would not be HIPAA compliant.
We have a PDF primer you can download that explains all the different transfer methods, as well as encryption, protocols, etc:

Hopefully this can help clarify some of the "geek-speak."
Thanks for the explanation.....sm
In 1996, the city I live in was not really a city....it was nonincorporated....off a huge city, didn't need an occupational license back then to work on a computer.
In 1997, late in the year, it became a city unto itself, and then the developers came in *imagine*.......imagine what happened then!!!! What was a little dying beach town, became an EXCLUSIVE city, people dying to get here, people moving here in droves from late 90s to right now (still ongoing). In 1997, got our own police dept., zoning dept., post office, fire-rescue, etc. and I suppose that's when they started thinking about licensing the little folks working at home.
I'm not really complaining about it, I never asked for something for nothing, but it was stated to me (have lived in this area 25+ years) that if you worked on a computer, had no traffic, you didn't need a license, I specifically asked about it in 1996, pre opening up my little sole proprietorship (not incorporated).
So, the rules are made for everyone, am a firm believer in that. I was just shocked that someone would call on probably more than a dozen people and do that. However, the person who did that also lives in the complex and also works here in the complex.....a much older person who probably was discontented that they never got to work for themselves at home. I don't know...just think it was a nasty thing to do to anyone. Person also, prior to this, used to be someone I considered a friend.
They do not really you owe you an explanation
Tell me though if it were the other way around, you mean to tell me that you wouldn't accept work because you wouldn't want to starve a fellow MT? There was probably someone there before you unless this facility just opened for business. This happens over and over, and unfortunately, there is nothing you can do about it and no, you are not entitled to be aware of their business decisions as you are a contractor, not an employee or a shareholder for that matter. Sorry to put it so blunt.
Explanation (SM)
If you have any nontext items in your subject line or name field when you post, it will give this error. If you will click right on through, it will post it regardless.

More explanation
My reports are set up to be in 100% view. I have a larger screen, and change the "VIEW" to 200% for each report. When I am done with the report, I have to change it back to 100% view before I send to the facility. I want a way to switch back and forth between 100% and 200% without using the mouse. Hope that explains it better.
Simple explanation
The industry is in tremendous flux, and with so many unstable companies job hopping by transcriptionists is normal. Nobody is nearly organized enough to keep a blacklist. More simple explanation is that every ad generates 1000s of resumes. I once got a reply two months after the fact. Not rude, nor anything to be paranoid about, though certainly not a pleasant experience.
Great explanation and well said...
Your experience is great motivation. I can relate to your family experience too. (Though my kids are younger and I still have my husband - for now!) I guess it's just a matter of prioritizing. Something tells me that got a lot easier when you got rid of the husband. Mine thinks whatever he wants at the time is the most important thing on my plate.
Thanks for sharing.
Thank you for that detailed explanation!! - nm
.
Thanks for the explanation --- more questions please.
If the dictator dictates extraneous information that the transcriptionist/editor has to delete or remove from the report, is there any credit given to the Editor for actually editing, as this will result in a lower line count if you are actually taking words out.
Do you know if the platform accepts special characters, such as the em dash or the degree symbol for temperature?
If the report is sent to QA, and the QA person makes some changes, and those changes result in a lower line count, will the transcriptionist's/editor's line count be adjusted to reflect those changes, and how would the transcriptionist/editor know if they were not able to review the final copy of that particular report?
Thanks for your patience in helping me understand EditScript.
No prob...I go with what...
...I remember. For me "bothkids" works - to each her own - especially since I time 100 wpm anyway. Actually, I didn't say I didn't like Shorthand. You asked who has worked on each and for info, and I indicated that I like ShortKeys better because...
I've had that prob. too. SM
When I re-booted, all seemed ok. Don't remember if I hit re-start or actually waited for an extended period of time before I powered the 'puter back up.
had same prob with Linksys... -sm
I had the same issues with the Linksys router that we bought. Couldn't connect to the company and couldn't do any file transfers. I gave that one away (couldn't find the receipt) and bought a Belkin router. It was a bit more expensive, but OH SO worth it!! I set the whole thing up in no time and with no help and no calls to tech support for the router...all just using the CD they sent. It has worked from day one without a hitch!! My suggestion: Trash the Linksys and get a Belkin. You won't regret it!
My prob is reading it how it SHOULD be and not

I've had same prob
I've had the same problem. Google will look fine and then once I go back to it, it will be all tiny. All of mine still fits on one page though. I haven't figured it out but if I close it out and go somewhere else and then come back to Google, it usually resolves itself. If that doesn't work, I think restarting your pc will straighten it out.
People! It is EXCLAMATION, not explanation. Are you folks

syntax prob? your dream 5 ft 2 in..nm
Dictaphone prob, and they are working on it.
But they tend to work on these problems late at night and on weekends, so that stretches out the length of time it takes for them to actually solve the problem. They don't want to take the entire system down during the busiest work times. They did replace the server over the weekend, which apparently didn't help. At least they know the glitch isn't a hardware issue. Sorry. I'm waiting and waiting for line counts, too. It is frustrating.
they prob can dictate a schedule
no tx... find a new job that is IC and doesn't demand a schedule; quit feeding the hungry MTSOs that only want to pad their pockets... UGGHHH!
NO PROB WITH ESLs WHO ARE WELL-SPOKEN - sm
since there are a lot of them who really put forth the effort to be understood; I don't mind being a little more patient with them. But the ones who KNOW their English sux and insist on rambling on a 78 rpm (as well as their American counterparts). What I would really like to ask them to do is to SPEAK LIKE YOU SPOKE AT YOUR JOB INTERVIEW WITH THE HOSPITAL. I'm sure they had no trouble being understood then. I'd still rather have a good ESL who's reallying trying than a sloppy US doctor - we KNOW he/she knows how to speak correctly; it's just carelessness. What are they going to do with the few extra seconds they save?
Most hospitals I worked at would not tolerate lousy dictators - and from my experience, mgmt. almost always sided with the MT. I even overhead one administrator tell a sloppy dictator to .."Either clean up your act or get someone else to dictate for you. We're not getting into a lawsuit bec. of your carelessness...and my desk is stacked with resumes.
MY PET PEEVE WITH ALL OF THE DICTATORS? PLEEEEZE take the 2-3 seconds it takes to SPELL ANOTHER DOCTOR'S NAME, esp. with a CC. I'm born knowing how to spell it, right? But I'm not jumping hoops looking it up ... just leave blank. They'll get the message.
But we know the MTSOs won't touch that subject. Better see US tear our hair out and loose $$ with s---y dictators than confront the client.
She is scared about turn around time of her business. Prob nothing you can do other than what you d
She does understand, just frustrated and wanting to prob, poke, intimidate, make you feel bad. Just stay calm, when giving her choices just stay calm and say which would you want me to handle for you. Say, I can HELP YOU with thus and thus. Say, I know you are worried, this is how I can help, which will it be (so to speak, she will soften and might end up apologizing a bit. Remain at least another month and see how pans out.

Could be pulled muscle. Don't need cellulitis with DVT, but generally will have some swelling, warmth MAYBE. Try the toe pull thing with the leg stretched out, see if it hurts. If it does, see a doc today, please.
