No, I need to work with some coworkers with "class", not low rental boss-bashing cats!

And what I love the most - if Frank himself called one of them, or actually walked up to them in an office, they'd fall all over him, gushing about how great he is to work for! Guaranteed! Its just so "catty" to claw his eyes out on an anonymous message board and giggle, giggle, giggle. I'd be saying the same thing to their faces as well, except I'd probably be their supervisor and would be canning their catty behinds.

Same thing my former coworkers said before they were demoted to file clerks.
CoWorkers
Have you ever had a coworker that just never took responsibility for anything they did? Well I'm glad that I just got rid of my coworker. She blamed the world and everyone else for all that was going on with her. She turned in her notice, didn't work all of the days, left a mess and constantly tries to look at other people's situations and wants hers to be the same way. Anyone had a coworker like that? What's your coworker horror story? I'm glad I do MT part-time so I can get away from people sometimes.
I'm in the NE, my friends and coworkers are in the NE, and these constant complaints are just bog
There is always work as long as one isn't a "queen". The only MTs who are running out of work refuse back-up accounts, won't type outside of their "box" - i.e. specific hours like 9 am to 11 am, and won't work any daily variation without bonuses dangled in front of them. Otherwise, all of us are fine - hustling, busy, learning new accounts and basically working!! The offices all have phone #s and real live people answer the phones, etc. The drama these 2 or 3 ladies daily report on just doesn't exist. For months, one was always screaming the Indians were getting her work. She just KNEW it was the Indians - no other explanation. Well, she found that was wrong and never mentioned a word of apology or clarification. Then it was VR taking all her work, or the phantom cherry pickers. Its simply the talented MTs who are learning back-up accounts and learning them well! But to hear these women rag on, you'd think it was doom and gloom, which just ain't so!
printed for my dozen coworkers! LOVIT!! -nm-

Geeze I thought this was a place to go and get help from coworkers.
Will anything else play, a CD or anything? That is 1 clue to make sure there is or is not a card, make sure everything is plugged up correctly.
Try this, In Windows Media Player, to go Tools, Options, Devices, Speakers, properties choose Default DirectSound Device click okay and close out and see if that works.
If not, you might go to Start, Settings, Control panel, Sound/speach/audiodevices and follow some of the trouble shooting techniques.
If all else failes use the Help on the start button and research or go to the knowledge center of Microsoft.com and search the error message.
Other than that, if one is not installed you should be able to go and pick one up at wal-mart, radioshack or some other local store rather reasonably, definitely cheaper than being out of work for the day.
rental
a little to late, but it always helps to take pictures (dated) of how the place looked when you left.
A similar thing happened to my sister but in our state, they have a renter/landlord board and she was a bit more informed then her leasing company thought!
Since she knew how they operated, she just waited till the carpet crew was there putting NEW carpet in, took a few dated pictures of them in action, then was able to shove the carpet "cleaning" bill in their face.
With her rights info on hand, she got the full deposit back and warned everyone else in their community.
Rental Fees
I noticed that several companies are charging their employees rental fees for equipment/software. If one was in-house, they would not have to pay a rental fee. How are these companies getting away with this? Why would you, an employee, agree to pay for their equipment? The only time you should pay a rental fee is if you are an independent contractor. As an employee, you do not pay to work for the employer, they pay you!
I am just amazed that companies are actually charging their employees to work for them!
OP specifically said wants rental on...nm
rental cars
I am in Arizona and I usually have my best luck with Avis. Hey where are you in Arizona??
Just moved out of a rental. This just burns me up..
We just bought a house and moved out of a renal townhome that is owned by a huge property management company. I always always go the extra mile to make sure I leave a place clean, way more than a lot of people. I spent hours cleaning and we didn't leave a single speck of anything in that house. The carpets were immaculate because we had plastic runns in the high traffic areas, etc. I scrubbed baseboards, window sills, floors, painted over all the scratches and nail holes (same paint), everything. Got our refund yesterday on the deposit and they charged us for ELEVEN HOURS of cleaning. In the description they said that this that and the other thing was VERY dirty, counter tops being one thing. I swear I scoured the counters with cleanser not long before I finished the job. I find it very offensive to have all these things listed as VERY dirty. They're full of you know what. Do you think it's just a racket to ding you for more money? They also charged us 160 dollars to shampoo those perfectly clean carpets. It seems like cleaning that is not beyond the usual amount should be THEIR responsibility as part of the business of renting out their units. They just want to pass on everything including routine maintenence onto their tenants. Just had to vent.
Rental properties and TurboTax sm
Anyone have rental properties and do your own taxes with TurboTax? We used to have rentals and the accountant did the taxes but charged us like close to $400.00 for our return. We have since sold everything and this year I did them with TurboTax and really the features. Now we are thinking of purchasing another small rental and would like to know how TurboTax is with rentals. Is it easy and pretty much self-explanatory? Do you like to use it for this or do you have an accountant do it? Thanks in advance.
Whenever one of my coworkers asks me to listen to a report and fill in the blanks or make SM
corrections, I always put my initials on the report right after hers and I expect anyone who goes into any of my reports to make a correction to do the same and that includes QA people. Where I work, the transcription clerk will put her initials in a report even if she just had to go into the report and delete a blank line to make the report upload correctly. She puts an asterisk by her initials to let us know that she didn't make any changes to the text, just made adjustments for uploading purposes.
I've been told at other jobs by the QA bunch that whatever software we use automatically keeps a virtual record of each person who accesses a report, but I just like knowing who else has messed with my report. I can't tell you how many times when I worked in the office, an irate doctor has come in saying "who's LN" or "who's RB". So if QA went into the report and changed something, I want the doctor to see their initials too.
I own several rental properties, buy houses and flip them and
own several nationally-known chain restaurants.
Much more productive than pointing fingers at the government and blaming them for any poor choices on my part, most of which are fixable if you stop complaining and get off your butt!
I am not and was not bashing her and all that. sm
I was just trying to vent with colleagues over some of my frustrations. I didn't call her names, nor did I suggest that she is a bad person in any way. My only complaint with her is that she never admits she is wrong and never says I am sorry. But that was yesterday and this is today. I have vented and I'm fine. I really didn't mean to stir up such a hornet's nest. I have no ill will or whatever. I just sometimes feel that there is a lot of talk about professionalism, but sometimes it is just talk.
I never worked for Signal, but I love MDI, and I do not think, as some have suggested, that she goes around deliberately overhiring, nor do I think she is nuts. She may be a bit eccentric, but we all are, I suppose, in our own way. If nothing else, she is a good businesswoman, and that just wouldn't make sense to deliberately cause so many MTs to be miserable with no work. I have to assume there is some kind of plan in the works. I do believe she cares about the MTs and making sure there is enough work.
I wish this thread would be deleted -- it was just a frustrated plea for a sympathetic "ear," but now has turned into some meanspirited bashing, which I never wanted.
My apologies to all for being a part of it in any way
You most certainly WERE bashing.
Otherwise you would not have come on a public message board and posted what you did. It was rude and unprofessional and as I said in another post, I hope she finds out who you are and FIRES you. How ungrateful you are.
I don't know why all the bashing sm
on this board when against people who have done this for years and years. If a company calls you to ASK you to do a stat or whatever, you can always say no. I have done MT almost 40 years and I am not yet 60....will be soon. It is the way the business is.
The only way to get out of this is to work in-house and there are not many of those jobs left. Personally for the money that most in-house jobs pay, I would rather work for the MTSO at home.
Not everybody who does MT has that spouse with the second income and they have to work and do what they have to do. My hubby and I have made it work for 36 years. Kids are now grown and gone and have homes and careers of their own and never suffered. My husband and I worked it so that, most of the time, if one was working the other wasn't so the kids didn't have to have a babysitter. There were times when we did use babysitters, etc but we tried our best not to.
There shouldn't be "bashing" on either end BUT, I believe there are many MTs that don't have years of experience that dont' understand this is the business. You have to work when the work is there.
Keep doing what you are doing and you wont' have to worry about work. I never have had to in all the years I have done MT except for the usual holiday type slow downs. Even with all the Mt going to India, etc, I think there is always still going to be a place for MTs with lots of experience. Just my opinion.
Best thing - I am my own boss and my own emloyee, worse thing - I am my own boss and my own

Bush bashing
Administrator-- could we please have all the Bush bashing placed on the political board where it belongs????
Here's my take (I'm not in the mood for bashing, either!)
I enjoy belonging to AAMT because they keep me informed about what is going on in the industry. I live in a rather rural area and we do have a small component chapter in our area which I also like, as it helps me stay connected with people in this profession in my particular area (networking). Our meetings are not held on Saturdays, so the other poster who said that may have experienced that, but not in my area.
I do enjoy going to the symposiums--they are not that expensive and I learn a great deal as well as network with other people in my state. That is priceless, in my opinion.
I also like being involved with a professional association, as I take my profession seriously and want to associate myself with the professional association, and AAMT is it in that regard. If there were other choices, I might feel differently.
Are they perfect? Heck, no! But, the members do elect the people who make the decisions and therefore I feel my voice does get heard. Do they always do what I want? No, but no organization would, as everyone has different opinions.
I think it is a personal choice. I've been in MT for 25+ years and a member of AAMT for the past 12. I make a very good wage, and yes, I do get compensated for my CMT, though I understand many do not. I am proud to be a member and plan to keep up my membership as long as I feel my needs are being met which is networking, continuing education, etc.
MT Bashing by nurses
I found this on a nurse's blog - they were talking about MT mistakes they found in charts...
Nurse #1: I tried to get a job as a medical Transcriptionist for extra money, and no one would hire me because my 15 years experience of direct patient care does not qualify me to be a transcriptionist. Oh really? Or, I guess I mean, Owe Reilly?
Nurse #2:
I have no idea why they wouldn't let you work as a transcriptionist - what sort of special training would you need that you wouldn't already have?! It might be a good way to make ends meet if there came a point where a nurse couldn't stand up for so long anymore. It doesn't seem like it would take much in the way of critical thinking skills...
We don't use critical thinking skills? Darn, then maybe I should look into the career opportunities at Burger King...
Don't turn this into a Bush bashing

That's not bashing? Coulda fooled me.

cats
There are vaccinations for feline leukemia and rabies. A responsible cat owner keeps their pet updated on these shots.
Cats going outside.
I think everyone is entitled to their stance on this issue, it is a hard call to make, whether indoor/outdoor or always indoor, and I believe it is up to each individual to make that choice. I make the choice to have indoor/outdoor cats as I think that mine are most happy that way. There are ways that you can get your cats outdoors that are safe, many fencing systems that with some trial and error work. I know a lady who made wire tunnels that ran the perimeter of her yard that ended up in the woods attached to another enclosure she hade a handy man make for her, she said it was very inexpensive to make and it was really neat. I saw pictures of it. I plan to do something similar when I own property. Whatever you decide, do what you think is best for you, and let others do what they think is best for them. I have lost 1 cat to outside predators and it was wrenching, could not get out of bed for a week, but I still continue to let mine out to this day because that is what I feel makes them the happiest. I say lets choose to disagree or agree on this subject. All for the animals!!!
Cats/Dog
Cats: Leroy Brown, baddest cat in the whole darn town (full name), also Teddy. Pug, Willie, and Chiauwawa Amigo...Turtle Timmy, found out really Timithia, and 7 year old 12 inch long gold fish named Goldie (what else)...this as fun...

Cats will go off and die alone, my vet told me that. Also, in regard to keeping a cat indoors vs letting it out, we have coyotes and rabies in our states and they advised everyone to keep their cats indoors, even our indoor cats have to get rabies shots. I have a siamese who I let out with me in the garden but bring her in with me and she is never out at night. I got her from the ASPCA, and it took her a while to get used to being indoor cat, but my vet told me he has too many cats who suffer from fights, death by coyote or rabid bites.
Two Cats

Well, as follows (all cats)...
The Four Bumpas Brothers (so called because they love each other so much and are alway bumping heads together) who are Big, Baby Dogfood, Baby and Smokey Bumpas. Mr. Atticus Pinkas, because when we got him he lived in the attic for weeks and always comes down with pink insulation on him. Mr. French (he just looks like he would be French with his moustache). Dead-eye Lil, who obviously has one bad eye, her babies Paper and Plastic (they were born last week in a brown paper grocery sack) Sherbie, who is an orange barn cat. Old Dogfood, who came with the place we bought 10 years ago and is also a barn cat. All of these are outside cats, except Mr. Pinkas, who fears the outside world! The others were all drop offs and strays. Living in the country we get a lot of these!

Funny though. They get along with cats.
Depending on the cat of course. Had a neighbor who had kittens that would play with the baby skunks and the momma skunk would just sit and watch.
I delivered newspapers for 4 years and never got sprayed. Just stand still and they go away. They're basically nonagressive unless they feel threatened.
I have an albino cat that was meowing in the garage one night and I opened the door a crack and they were nose to nose, like they were talking to each other. Weird. Actually my cat was probably saying, "Hey buddy, thanks for opening that garbage bag, they had KFC last night."
I love cats....
I have had cats since I left my parents house which was 10 years ago now. I have had a couple of cats that were outdoor cats and I turned them into indoor cats. It can be done. When you move, the cat may act real weird at first because it new surrounding, but just be patient with the cat and give him a few weeks to get used to it. I made the mistake of letting my cat outside at our new house and he never came home : ( I lost another cat to a car hitting him because he was outside running in the street. Now, I have a cat and I won't let her out of the house for nothing. She has gotten used to it and is always on her best behavior. I have had her for six years. It is best not to let the cat out anyway because I don't know where you live, but the animal control agency can come take any strays away because you are not suppose to let them run outside. So many animals get put down for this reason I suggest you make it work if you really want this cat, and if you need to, maybe contact a veternarian or a professional that can give you some more advice.
My cats were allowed outside until...
I got tired of all the medical bills due to things they were picking up from other animals that were outside and were not being taken care of. The last straw was the last episode of worms, which were roundworms. Having kids, I cannot take the chance of them getting sick due to this. Also, I had a stray cat I fed all the time and took care of because the neighbor just left it when she moved, not to mention the fact that she didn't care for it while she lived there. We were moving and found someone who would take the cat, but only if he was fixed. We were going to fix him, but noticed his glands were very swollen. Turns out he had feline leukemia. I put him down, cried the whole time, and came home and buried him by myself while the kids were gone. I was soooooo angry. While my cats have their shots, that is a chance I am not willing to take. I have had my oldest cat for 11 years now and he is like a kid to me. I am very much for animal rights and go above and beyond to help animals in need, much to my husband's dismay, but there are times when not letting your animals outside is justified. My dogs are inside/outside dogs, but they cannot get over the fence....the cats can.
Have had cats gone for that long too..sm..
they are pretty independent, try not to worry too much.
I live in the country and we get strays and drop offs all the time, we have 9 right now, as some people who were renting a small home near ours moved without taking their cats! Imagine that...I have a very soft spot for animals, much to my husband's dismay at times, so I at least make sure they are fed to keep them from wandering onto the highway to who know's what fate!
Good luck, let us know!
The home of two cats
I have two cats. A torti named Callie. Some of her favorite things are sleeping under the covers in bed and watching us on the computer. She loves to lay on top of the monitor!!!! Our other cat is a chocolate siamese named Sissy. She is the most timid cat I have ever seen. She hates to go outside and does not like to be picked up at all. Even with all their little eccentricities, they are great pets!!!
my cats' names are
Tinker, Algebra, and Katrina. I also have a peach-faced lovebird named Pretty Bird.
off topic, but still re: cats
How on earth do you keep a cat from getting on the hood of cars? My cat is five years old and only does it occasionally. For some reason it is always late at night. I can peek out the window and see him perched just as proudly on my car and--gasp--a time or two on a neighbor's car. I hate him getting on mine and I surely don't want him on anyone else's car. A couple of times that I've caught him on mine I hit the alarm from inside the house hoping to scare him enough that he'd be afraid of the car and never get on it again. No use. I only catch him every week or so. Any advice???
Talking about cats, need help
I have 3 cats, an older cat that have taken to the vet. She is not what I call shedding because you can tug gently on her fur and it comes out in droves. I got vitamins and also some antiinflammatories for her when I went about the above issue. Vet wanted to know if stressed (the cat that is) and I said nothing has changed. Have given the medicine for approximately 3 weeks and still the excessive hair loss (hers more so than mine!) Anyone had a similar situation? Thanks
some people do not want their cats outside--sm
no matter what their size. I have two and I do not want either of them outside, to do their business, or for any other reason. My big kitty (14) pounds does not fit in conventional litter boxes either, and he is too *chicken* to go inside a housed one. He does not squat, either, but just sprays standing up. I ended up buying a semi-large concrete mixing plastic pan about 24x20 inch and some plastic plexi. I hot glued the plexi to the sides of the platic cement mixing pan and left one side open for easy access. he does well with it, except occasionally turning his hind end towards the open side and letting it fly, but I have matts there to protect the carpet and I can wash easily. mostly he hits the plexi sides though and it has alleviated that problem. My smaller kitty uses this litter box too.
Oh no! My cats come to visit me too. They

Awesome! Thanks so much!! I registered my 3 cats...
and will register a memorial for my dog who passed away 2 years ago.
Just for the heck of it, here's the link to "my kids"
Again, many thanks
Can Frontline for dogs be used on cats?
Am short on cash right now and my two cats are needing treatment. Don't want to make them sick and figure that is why cats cannot use dog flea remedies. Wanted to see if anyone had ever done this. I don't want to take any chances with Charles and Cali <meow>
Thanks !!!
