Has anyone ever tried those multilevel marketing businesses such as Fortune Hi-Tech marketing...sm
My friend wants me to sign up...she is making about $2000 a month now but working quite hard at it. My husband claims it is like a pyramid. I just don't know. I wondered if any of you have had personal experience with this type venture. TIA
What she said is so bogus!...sm
I didn't see this show, but $30-40 K to START is such a crock! In cities around 2 hours from where I live, an MT might make that working directly for a hospital, inhouse. However, I'm pretty sure that hospitals do not hire newbies to make that kind of money - they ask for varying years of experience. I shudder to think what those newbies who eagerly sign up for MT courses as a result of this swill will be making a couple of years from now. 1 cpl?
The only way that this "expert" assertion could possibly hold any water is if one contends that working at home for an MT service is probably the only career where you actually are worse off financially if you do a really good job... So, dear Virginia, you really can make 30-40K to start. All you have to do is mindlessly whip off as much production as possible and don't waste time checking your work. But anyone with a conscience-driven work ethic, who consistently produces well-researched, quality work ethic is the poor schmuck getting trampled on by this once-wonderful industry. No wonder we are getting out in droves - that's why they need to go on TV to rope in new recruits...
then its probably bogus
Is Transcription Bogus
I am very interested in becoming a MT. I am wondering if anyone knows if MT from home is real or another at home scram. Also are schools such as Career Step scams or do they give you real training and help you get a MT job from home. I appreciate any feedback.
Not bogus, there are good courses..
Some are scams. Career Step is not a scam. However, really nobody makes decent money starting out. I used to train MTs, some from Career Step. Most made close to minimum wage at first. They were also limited in the number of reports and work types at first and hours worked. They had the basics but didn't have the overall experience so it takes a lot of time and patience from both the trainer/mentor and the MT. But these MTs are the ones that usually do well. If you start out with a national and are just handed a job and not given a trainer/mentor per se, you will not learn much and will likely fail the QA reviews but hopefully they will give good feedback and you can learn that way. Newbies don't usually do well with that kind of situation in my experience. So finding a company that is willing to take on trainees and mentor them as a first job is a good idea. The pay is also not like it used to be and even after training if you have a job with a national paying 6 cpl you would only be making around 9 an hour based on 150 lph. In my experience I have rarely seen a newbie getting over 150 lph accurately until maybe after a good six months of heavy mentoring/close monitoring by an experienced MT. JMO. Hope that helps.
The "credentialing authority" is bogus, sm
and b.s. It is a private organization, looking for mo' money, mo' money, with no standing of any kind. They will not get a dime from me, for anything. They are anti-MT to say the least.
Expecially if you can try to impress strangers with a bogus IQ score

Yep, the bogus ransom letter was way amateurish and a dead giveaway
Her handwriting samples have always come back as "suspicious" by the forensic handwriting experts.
Yep, she did it.
COMPETITION
How long have you been with this client? Is is offshore they are talking about? Be tactful and supportive of their concern, BUT FOCUS ON THE PROFESSIONAL QUALITY OF YOUR WORK. Start off by a brief review of your business relationship together. Review with your client, all the fine points of your business - your professionalism, TAT, your availability and your thorough knowledge of their particular needs. Then taken the client through a scenario - ask them point blank who is this other service offering such low rates? Ask your client about the other service's background? Are they offshore? Bring attention to HIPPA and security of their patient's records. If you get no where, you may want to consider meeing your client in person for review of pricing and offer a perk such as a discount per month or if you have to, lower your rate a little. The more you keep your wits about you and stay professional at all times, the more impressive you will remain to them. I have lost hospital accounts at times to lower rates, but I kept my cool at all times even though it killed me, and just once or twice, I got back the accounts and you know what? The first thing told to me was how impressed they were that I was so professional and helpful through the process of letting go. As it turned out, the other services were lousy and I got my accounts back. This doesn't always work though but it's worth a try.
This is not a competition.
see "I think it has to do with"

I don't feel as such competition with $$$, sm
As I don't believe they settle for the pay that the Indians do, and as such not competing with us as much ...
Well if it's a competition, I guess
the experienced ones could stop being so generous with help on the Word board, which they do FOR FREE.
Sorry, but I've found another industry that pays by the hour and gives actual holidays. I will drive to work and work with real people, where I will actually feel like I count for something. I'm over the feeling of "privilege" of working in medicine. Let the newbies have it. I'm tired of the docs think we're idiots because we follow a book of rules that has no basis in their reality. I'm also tired of docs that don't want to pay, but would never consider changing their ways and standardizing formats and phrasing or gathering everything they need ahead of time before they get on to dictate (think ESLs and their long, drawn out, time-wasting sentence structures and pauses).
Irish dance competition.

LOL. And some kind of comedy competition soon too!!! nm.

Y-City Star competition - like AI
Fellow MTs and American Idol watchers,
I made it to the top 20 in the local Zanesville, OH competition similar to American Idol. PLEASE HELP A FELLOW MT!!! You can go online and vote tomorrow for me. PLEASE!! go to www.whiznews.com or www.zanesvilletimesrecorder.com and cast your vote. You should be able to hear me sing for about 90 seconds. The public vote is only a portion of the scoring. I will be judged on vocal quality and performance as well. The first night of actual competition is July 15th and then again on July 29th if I made it to the top 8. I appreciate each and every vote. There is some stiff competition ahead of me. Lots of talent in OHIO!!! This is gonna be fun!
You can "thank" the offshore competition...sm
Like it or not.... it's driving the prices down in our industry. We have customers now demanding price reductions as contracts come up for renewal and tell us that if we don't meet their new pricing they'll send the work offshores and pay 4 cpl for transcription, 1.5 cpl for editing work.
More and more clients are willing to take the risk of sending work out of the country for the cheap labor and getting the work done 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. The overseas companies truly work 24/7/365 and their English skills have improved dramatically.
Gone are the days of high line rates for everyone. Stinks, I know.
Marketing
I do brochures, flyers and postcards. I mail out using a list I have. I also have accounts in several of the large medical buildings by hospitals and I will often go from floor to floor giving out my information. I have gotten a 20 to 25% reply so it works. Since I have been in this for 15 to 20 years now a lot more comes from word of mouth but when I started out I just sent out information about my service.
E-mail me if you want more specifics. Patti
Thanks for that information! Competition should bring price down

It's called competition in a buyer's market (sm)
or vendor's (hospital's) market, not low-balling.
It is all about marketing and sales. Looks like they have your $$

Marketing Ideas
Hi, I am in the process of searching for my own accounts as well. may I ask what sort of information you put into your brochure? Also, I have built a website and have it being hosted by my ISP, but how do you go about having it searchable through Yahoo and Google? I am just curious, as I need to expand my searchability. Your help would be greatly appreciated.
thanks. Kathy
Need advice on marketing.
Got a call from a doctor. I have a questionnaire that I use to ask questions. Then I gave him the rate over the phone and included a proposal and brochure which I faxed to his office.
I did this before and nothing happened. I'm worried I gave out information prematurely. Am I doing this right?
MQ's "daddy" underwrites them so they can undercut competition. They aren't
And if you aren't MQ Rosie then I guess I'm not calling you stupid now am I?
Going on a school trip for childs chorus competition--sm
in March to New York. Went to a meeting with school/parents and told the school board will cancel the trip if the terrorist threat level goes to red--understandable, but also we would lose our money ($1600 for four of us to go). Does anyone know of an insurance company who underwrites trips or tours? One of the parents said they heard of this but did not remember the details or company.
You're asking for part of their market! It'll be a competition
You go ahead though. Keep us all informed.
Competition is driving prices down. Companies are not making
Sooner or later you will have to face facts that this industry is in a freeze hold due to several factors.
If the companies are not able to raise their prices to customers, they cannot raise their payouts to workers.
Running out of marketing ideas. sm
I've sent letters and brochures. Is there any other way to market this business? Don't have a lot of time for cold calls. If I send the same stuff over and over, I'm afraid they'll throw it in the trash and I will not have gotten their attention. Any suggestions are appreciated.

See message - marketing own accounts
Make up a brochure/flyer -- very simple stating what you will offer and for what price and send out or take around. Be prepared to do tapes or digital. Lots of info on here about that. Be acceptable to pick up and deiver or send via FTP. Do mass mailings to MD's, DO's chiropractors, oral surgeons, vet's, etc. or concentrate in the area where you want the account and do it every 4-6 weeks. Network via local chapters of MT's, MA's what you have available. But be prepared to know it can take several months to get a bite and sometimes longer. You need to be in the right place at the right time. If hospitals have their employee newspaper see if you can place an ad. But it sometimes takes mass marketing to get that first account. Good luck.

Isn't network marketing another name for Amway?
xx
Any MTSO's out there willing to give marketing advice?
I have been transcribing for 6 years and want to get my own accounts. What is the best way to do this? Any info would be great! Thanks
Amway, Quixstar & Network Marketing
First let me tell you that there is nothing wrong with Network Marketing and that it's a wonderful business to be in. The best advice I can give is first of all, research several companies and see what their compensation plans are. I would NOT sign up based on someone feeding me a bunch of hype. Also, look for a product that you can believe in. Next, check out the company. Just as it is done here, everyone is checking out all the companies before they get in. Make sure that the company is founded and operated on sound ethics and business practices. As for spending a lot of money on books, tapes and seminars.....ALL of us should be doing that on a DAILY basis. It's called personal development and that is the best thing in the world you can do for yourself. So to sum it up and because of limited space to write here....tell them to GO FOR IT!!! If you have any questions go ahead and email me and I can go into much more detail to help. Take care and have a blessed day!
I wasn't putting down Network Marketing...sm
Simply stating where the money in Quixtar comes from. Sure, you get a bonus check every month if you sell products, but the majority of the money comes from the tools. Tapes that are made from Quixtar seminars are sold and pushed on people. If you don't get on the tool program, they don't want to help you - because they won't make money if you don't buy the tools.
Harika - marketing/converting clients
is a numbers game. You just have to keep promoting your business over and over and over again. Work on promotion for 1-2 hours per day so you don't get burned out on it.
There are many tasps out there. I see them on the banners on this board all the time. Some are basically pay as you go. The one I have is less than $100 per month with unlimited uploading and downloading. All the doc needs is a recorder or you can use a tasp with a call in system. I think the call in systems are high $ though. Nobody answer my post last week why the call in rates were so high! If you go to affiliates on the left there are tasps on there.
To me the tasps really remove the need for a middle man taking a 60% cut like the big nationals.
it all started with the VR software marketing personnel. SM
This craze started about 10 years ago and kicked into full force within the past five years or less. Someone selling the software convinced the physician practices, hospital personnel that they could save a fortune on their transcription costs. Little did they know it takes a Transcriptionist to pretty much retype the report produced by VR, and then sometimes QA/editor to check it. Now that's what I call a savings people. Now the VR systems are being utilized by our ILPs, who try to correct the errors in VR when they do not have a firm grasp on the English language...We're talking double disaster here. Let the doctors and hospital administrators think they are saving bundles on their transcription costs. How very sad and ignorant on their part.
Send letters to local offices marketing yourself. sm
Watch the want ads, and offer yourself as IC backup instead of FTs. It works!
As you pick up your accounts and back-up accounts, just do a good job and meet expectations or better.
The only drawback about your own accounts, it leaves little time to clock out and have your own life. If you can find someone else to work the accounts while you rake in the money, that is all the better.
The whole notion of a liver detoxification is just a marketing ploy and a myth.
Myth
I agree, and O'Reilly marketing his books and novelty times
a joke and sad that old folks down in fla watch it and get brainwashed, much like old people get tricked by contractors and other things. I hope I don't lose my marbles when I get old.
How nice is this keyboard? Nice light touch?
I have a regular Microsoft ergonomic one now but I'm thinking I should probably get a replacement and use mine as a backup.
I was nice today, and people were nice to me.
If you steer away from the nastiness, there are a few nice and encouraging posts in there.
ADP STATEMENT...
I just received notification as well and mine was for $134.00.....just curious as to what its for!
I was a little put off by that statement...
I have a 2-1/2 year old with me during the day and my work does not suffer nor does my child...
Yes, your overall statement is true but
what is so bothersome to so many MTs is that the complaints voiced by so many are about pretty much the same thing. This in turn makes the complaints pretty much valid problems or "injustices" experienced by MTs on an industry-wide basis. It is actually a good thing to have open communication so all may hear the pros and cons of a particular MTSO or of the entire nationwide industry of MT'ing...
I do wish that some MTs could be a little more calm and positive during their negative statements and that some MTs could be a little less offensive in their posts. But again, open communication is one of the things that make a good democracy. Have a beautiful day. Mine started out terrible...got up at 1:15 AM to start transcribing so I could do some other things later in the day but of course the cable and comcast internest were down until just now, 2:50 AM. Guess I'd better hit the keyboard.
stupid statement
That's a very stupid statement. You evidently don't work on the kinds of accounts I do. I send blanks that QA can't get, either. There are various things that affect a report and require blanks besides a dictator's accent.
how exactly is this statement not disrespectful?
you're just plain mean
I don't know anything, but I found statement
on IPAY, but no direct deposit in my bank ??
Agree with your statement 100%...sm
I'm sure the hurricane victims will be glad to know this. This would be the exact time to come together. I wondered why we would act this way (I know there's an embargo), and my husband said that it might be because we don't trust Fidel Castro (sabatoge).
I appreciate the posts giving updates about the hurricane disaster; I cannot watch the coverage on TV anymore. I broke down this morning when the dogs were dying, and you could hear a dog wailing in the background. It's too much for anyone to bear.
I'm anxiously waiting for Best Friends to let me know if I can be a foster parent for dogs that belong to evacuees.
Thanks again!
My last statement on this subject is the following...sm
As long as there are people who are willing to take cuts in pay, whether by way of bonus or otherwise, there will be pay cuts for the worker, no matter the profession.
I stand behind my statement and there has been
documentation to support it, but this is a free country and I certainly won't condemn anyone for being a member, I just never would and would never recommend it.
I don't advocate any curriculum - I detest Abeka, but the websites I have given are a good place to start for anyone who is just feeling things out. They can ask any questions and get feedback from multiple people, explore various curriculums, buy new or used, find others in their community who homeschool, find support groups, etc. Rainbow Resource has just about everything ever created as far as curriculum, including what is commonly called boxed curriculum like Abeka or BJU where you buy every subject and the TMs, but also allows you to pick and choose. I personally write my own curriculum now, but I used various curriculums and various modalities of homeschooling over the years. There are many different forms of homeschooling too, from a principal approach to the unschooling approach and many others in between. No one curriculum or modality works for everyone and one of the many joys of homeschooling is having the freedom to use whatever works best for your family.
I am not a secular homeschooler, but there are those that are and I would want them to be able to get the support they need and not feel isolated because they don't share the same belief system that I do.
Recorded statement -- think about it before you do it
My attorney has always advised against doing a recorded statement. Sometimes it is the way that the question is asked as to how the answer comes out. Also, we all know that errors can happen in recorded statements and they are not given to you to verify and sign off on, and the tape is erased so what do you do if there is an error in it? So I would not do it again, I did and it did not help my case. Took a lot of attorney time and money to get everything cleared up and then rule in my favor. If it is a black and white of a rear end, might not be a problem, but if there is any question at all, do not do it unless you type up what you want to say and a recorded "statement to them" and do not answer their questions. Just my 2 cents worth
