Lost my dad and a grandson in within a day
of each other in September. I am so sorry for your loss! I have not even taken it all in yet...
I was driving to Philadelphia to see my dad who had terminal lung cancer when I got the call that my 12-day-old grandson was in the hospital on life support! I was torn what to do, see dad or turn around to be with my daughter...I went ahead to see dad, but he passed two days before I got there, my grandson the next day....There I was, in the middle of Iowa at a truck stop, feeling like I was in a surreal world, with people all around me talking, laughing, etc. I lost the oldest and youngest members of my family within 24 hours.
Believe it or not, time does help! I think about my dad almost every day, especially when I type elderly male patients. I have just now started to laugh when I think about him. I have his WWII picture in my dining room, I see his handsome face every day and I have a more recent picture next to it, him looking tired and ragged, but he has one of his great-granddaughters on his lap and he is smiling big and proud.
I like to think that my dad passing a day before my grandson just made it certain the baby would have someone in heaven waiting for him from his family!
Be strong and know that there are those of us here who feel for you and share your sorrow and pain!
sounds like a grandson question

Have babysat grandson since age 6 months
while his mom attended nursing school and dad worked, usually had him about 12 hr a day. Lucky to have a job with some flexibility but basically work a second/third shift 7 pm until done. Luckily, where I work I do not have to do a whole 8 hr shift, just get my lines in, usually 5 hours or so. Mom now has a 3-day a week nursing job, so I usually only have him three days, which helps alot. Unfortunately your granddaughter is probably at the hardest age right now as far as wanting grandma's attention, easier when they are little cause they nap more or a bit older where they can entertain themselves a bit with drawing, videos, etc. I would just commit to a shift/time when she is not at your house, evenings, early morning, etc, maybe split shift. Enjoy your hugs and special time with granddaughter but remember the parents need to take on their responsibilities too. Lucky for me, both mom and dad are great parents to our little fella.
Grandson driving his little jeep. Cute! nm

RAMS football, spend time with 10-mo old grandson
Yes, it is opening day for football in St. Louis, fall is right around the corner.
My grandson is at that handful stage, hard to get anything done with him around but I volunteered to babysit while his parents are out Saturday night. Hope to squeeze in a few hours Sat and Sun for work as well.
