tons of work
im loaded to the gills...and i need some time off...crazy how some companies can be so different in there work load.
or this one is my fave tons of work..

There usually is for thre first three months at most..then nothing.  I have no problem working on the hard accounts, but when it gets down to $30-$50 a day at most, it gets very frustrating.  One spends all day logging in a looking for work to find one or two jobs.  When you can't pay your bills, you have to move on.  I want to find a company that consistently has the work...have yet to find it.....

No India where I work. TONS of work. nm x

They have tons of work, no low work volumes at all - sm
They are the only company I have worked at that has no slow times. Granted if they overhired then that might be the case, they don't, so there is as much work as you may want. They are a good company though, pay is always on time. As I said on the company board, no, they do not pay for spaces, but nor do they charge for them. They have other qualities I think that help overcome the fact that you do not get paid for spaces. It is a true IC job and that is one of the great "benefits" of the place; you have a 24 hour TAT, no set schedule. They don't care when you do the work as long as you make deadline. I need that flexibility and it is very hard to find an IC job where you actually have it and not a "window" of 8-12 hours to do your work. You do what you are supposed to do; they will give you as much work as you want, 60, 90, 120 minutes a day. I think in the 5 years I have worked there that work has gotten slow about 2 times, and it only lasted for a couple days each time. Most of the doctors are good too; there are a few bad apples but that is to be expected. I did this one guy today who I absolutely hate, but Sheila rotates the bad docs about so no one person gets stuck with the bad one all the time. But I had not done him for probably a month; and now I won't see him again probably for another month. it is not hard work either. It is all hospital clinic work for the most part and trauma ER.----so your "hearing" about low work is not quite the truth of the matter. If you don't know the facts, don't print them.
slow work
I work for a smaller company too, looks like I MIGHT have 4 hours of work today, better than nothing, so praise the Lord!
Yes work seems to be slow all over.

slow work
Unfortunately it is the nature of the business. From the point-of-view of the MTSO, they need to hire to provide adequate coverage for peak input times and then when there is a lull, there is not enough work to go around. After living through more cycles of this than I care to admit to, I finally learned to save every penny I earned from incentives, bonuses, OT, whatever, to get me through the lean times. In the past when I earned a fat check for OT I would RUN to the mall and treat myself. No more, and it has worked for me.  Hang in there!
Work is slow...
We're going through a slow time where I work right now too. I think it's just that time of year. I'm having to do a lot of different accounts to keep work, but at least I have work the majority of my day (there have been a few days where I was out out work for 30 mins to an hour at beginning of shift). One day it will seem like it's picking up and the next day it's down again. Normal for this time of year though.
why? Is it the pay, slow work or EMR? more.
How much longer are you planning on hanging in there? Is there work for newbies even at low pay?

I'm asking because many of us newbies want to do it even if it's only around for a couple more years.

Thanks for your insight!
Christy
My work is SO slow...sm
I do clinic work, and the work has been so slow this week and last week.  For instance, last night I only had 5 reports.  Short ones too.  Tonight I had 15 that totaled 21 minutes of dictation.  I asked if they needed help on another account while that one had hardly any work and they said no they didn't.  What this clinic tends to do is hold their work because my guess is they hate dictating and then all of a sudden they dump an ungodly amount of work on us.  I am irked majorly.
I work for 2 compaines and both are slow...sm
I haven't had a full paycheck in a month. But with all this time on my hands I sure do have a good tan from being lazy and sitting in the sun!
No work slow down or stoppage is not a plus if

The platform is slow and they run out of work.
nm
That is what I am thinking...Work is so slow..sm
I can't recommend a company right now.
Anyone else having an unusually slow work week? (nm)

Slow work and people not going to the doctor

I have been transcribing for about 20 years, but took a break from it for about 1-1/2 years.  Now I am working for a service.  Here is my first question to you guys:

1.  How long has it been slow like this?  There does not seem to be that many jobs, and the response is slow when applying.  I use to get calls almost the same day with just posting a resume (a few years ago.)

2.  Also, this economy is so horrible.  I was thinking, people are losing their jobs - losing their health insurance.  Do you think that is really cutting into our industry, because people just cannot afford to go the doctor unless it is an emergency?

we run out of work every single day at spheris, it is scary. is slow on ya'lls end too?
we run out of work every single day with Radiology, i type for Spheris, it is so scary, makes you wonder if the account is going to close.  anyone having a slow slow production month?

When work gets slow and you're switched to unfamiliar dictators does anyone besides me find it ha

Slow day for me. Typed two reports in two hours. Anyone else having unusually slow day?

TONS

tons
I have a couple large accounts with hundreds of docs and a smaller one with 50 or so. I rarely get the same doc twice.
TONS today.......

Been very slow and all of a sudden BAM!

I'll take it!

and they are still making tons of $$....sm

the naysayers panning the Stones probably could never afford to go and buy a ticket even to see them today....that's how expensive their tickets for a concert are today!!!

*snickers*

Tons of them this week. I just sm
reregistered for the do not fall list. We will see if it changes. Very annoying.
Yeah, there are tons (sm)

Here is a link showing how to find the 'Word command list.'  The list itself is too long to post.  http://www.melbpc.org.au/pcupdate/2207/2207article6.htm

I also subscribe to Word Tips.  I usually find a tip or two in each E-mail that is useful and I save them in one document for reference.  http://wordtips.vitalnews.com/

I do PT and make tons of money...sm
very easy work. Few ESL in that field and they are very agreeable to working with you. Lots of word Expander phrases, hardly any drugs, no labs. Love it. Make more money in PT with less cpl than any of my other accounts just because I can crank it out.
There are TONS of stores that I see every place I go.
x
STruck me funny that you said there must be tons of it. Probably mostly us MTs. (sm)

I always give tons of praise...
if I see the newbie is consistently giving her best, looking up words and even THINKING about them LOL - I find most newbies are pretty hard on themselves without my help!
Would help me tons if all dictators sounded like
Patrick Stewart.  Ah, if only someone could make it so!  (she grins)
yes of course I use tons of expanders. At the most 25% normals though.
x
Tons of up-to-date resources;) sm
Make sure you have all the resources you need that will cover a lot of specialties, especially for ops. I wouldn't worry too much. You will basically just be learning more words. Just have the resources you need for quick finds to help you pick up speed. I'm sure you'll do fine!

Can you email me the name of the company you are starting with? Even though I've been in this business for over 15 years, I don't have the "recent" acute care experience most companies are requesting. However, I do have at least 10 years in the past. Thanks!
My mother in law has tons of toilet paper too!
I mean probably 30-40 rolls at any given time and always feels the need to get more. She says she does that because she was poor as a child and she feels secure when she has a lot of something. She also buys tons canned food, shampoo and soap. Everbody has their reason and it really probably is all about feeling secure having what you think you need.
Want to keep winning? Having fun yet? Got tons more neat stuff!

my 3 y/o girl cat loses tons of hair too...nm

I use a Lanier transcriber - they cost TONS

eBay comes to mind - and what the other poster said about contacting Lanier for a used one.  As I know it, a new one is about $600 (?), Lanier being the BEST transcriber around, JMHO

.......with ebay though you have to be very careful.

You should be making tons of lines today. LOL!
xx
I am making tons of money doing tapes.

Just like tapes get misplaced so does digital dictation.  Also, have you ever timed how long it takes to download and upload files?  I think it runs about the same.  I am assuming this is clinic work.  So, if you don't go the office, then you'll need patient lists faxed or e-mailed, what have you.  It also costs money to have a secure FTP site for transfer.  So, no matter how you look at it, there is that time taken for the administrative end of transcription so to speak.

To the OP:  I would ask if the problem really is the delivery if you could cut back to two days a week and given them the option of typing STAT reports to be faxed to them OR you could ask if they'd go halfers on a courier service.  But, I think the problem is the cutting of the paper, so you may just want to mention that you'll need to attach a fee.

I had to attach a FAX fee to an office that was constantly calling and requiring me to search for letters that they apparently hadn't filed yet, so I started charging them for that service.  Guess what?  They don't call as much.  Just a thought.

But you get tons of deductions and write-offs.

Applied to tons of companies and hear nothing!
Anyone else applied to lots of places and never hear anything?  I have 5 years experience and a good resume so I don't understand.
but yet you would state someone's else name so freely when tons of other people read this...
that is my point...i am not trying to be mean or spiteful...i was not the original poster that is why my name is not on here...
hmmm, I have tons, but I'll list some favorites

pt=patient, hle=hyperlipidemia, hx=history, nd=and, nx=nontoxic, gm=gentleman, wsg=worsening, nt=nontender, fp=followup, fup=followup, otc=OTC, otcc=over-the-counter, gi=GI, gii=gastrointestinal, nvd=No nausea, vomiting, or diarrhea.  The list goes on and on!

Those are just a few of many.  I have most brand name meds set up for auto capitalization.  I also have abbreviations for most headings, ie: alg=ALLERGIES:, pexn=PHYSICAL EXAMINATION, soh=SOCIAL HISTORY, laby=LABORATORY:.

I don't know what I would do without my expansions.  I highly recommend them.  Good luck gettin more set up.

Very technical, lots of specialized equipment, and TONS of ESLs.
c
I think it's the temporary files because when it starts acting like this, there are TONS of temp

Even closing Word doesn't make the files go away--I have to delete them manually.

As far as plug-ins, I have tried disabling them before but no luck. I can go months without a problem, plug-ins and all, and then, BAM, it starts happening all the time. I usually start holding my breath when I have a string of "crash-less" days (even more than I usually do to hold my gut in).

I'm beginning to think it's those automatic updates from Microsoft that are adding gremlins...can't say that I'm not beyond thinking that Mr. Gates would have his reasons for doing that, although I can't say for sure what they might be right now.

I'm open to any more ideas you might have.

I honestly have to agree; even after a nursing degree, with tons of biology, ....sm
anatomy, epidemiology, physiology, chemistry, etc., it all comes down to intricate knowlege of the human body, in all specialties and subspecialities, along with excellent grammar/punctuation, BOS, great listening/interpretive skills, computer/peripheral skills....there is really so much to this career that I really get more than annoyed when referred to a "medical typist." We need constantly changing, growing, intimate knowledge of the human body, pharmacology, psychiatry, surgical specialties, special procedures, and how many of us, as the doctor is stumbling over his dictation or cutting himself off have to KNOW what the doc SHOULD BE dictating at a certain point during a quadruple bypass or salpingo-oophorectomy? I think you may do very well with oral surgery/dentistry, and even some maxillofacial surgery/plastic surgery, but in-depth understanding and knowledge, along with all the tech troubleshooting, listening skills, constant vigilance in editing, etc., comes with a comprehensive and up-to-date program, continuing education, and lots of hard work and mentoring. The AAMT modules, in addition to my own courses, helped me out tremendously in Surgery, General Med, and Radiology/Diagnostic Imaging. Good Luck!
I was thinking more like Oklahoma, midwest, etc. Tons there and have plenty of family members who wo

I look at the jobs posted and tons of MTs are applying. I am employed but not terribly pleased with

prefer OPs and have done MT work for about 16 years.  I have worked for MQ for 11 years for the Univ. of Pa. which they lost and now I am working for a small company in Michigan with just tons and tons of crap work.   I would like an IC job with OPs if possible.

To slow down....
#4 with decrease speed.  When you are ready to go back to "normal" speed just press #5  or to reset speed do a **  Good luck with that report!!!
too slow

I wish I was fast enough to be able to meet my line count and relax a little. Maybe in another year or so.

Slow for me too!
Both compaines I work for have no work--- no work = no money!
Slow day?
Wish it was - I'm swamped with residents! ARGH
