Need opinions on Dish TV versus Direct TV please.. sm

I have had both and currently have Direct but have never liked it due to the poor programming guide (only allowed to set up one Favorites, have to stand almost in front of the receiver for the remote to work, very difficult to find anything on the guide, not good music channels, etc.). I am only 9 months into a 2 year "programming contract" and feel I am going to be charged a cancellation fee though do not know how much. Anyway, I would like opinions from others on the service, etc. of both these companies before I make my decision to switch. Thanks to all who take the time to answer!

Direct versus Dish.
I actually prefer Direct TV over Dish. My sister-in-law had dish and there was no rhyme or reason to the program guide. I don't have favorites set up, so I can't really help there. I also don't listen to the music channels but I have a house stereo. Anyway, I have had no problems with getting my remote to work. I can actually sit in my recliner, which puts me at an angle to the receiver, and I can easily change channels without having to move. I also don't have trouble finding anything on the guide. I have the premium plus, HBO, Cinemax, Starz, and my local channels.
Dish Network versus Direct TV. Need advice..sm
I am trying to decide between Dish or Direct TV and would like to hear from those who have (or have had) either as to which system is better. I have done research on the web but would like opinions from users as far as reliability, service, channel selection, cost, if you can split a receiver between different rooms or need a receiver for each television in order to watch a different channel, etc. Any opinion is appreciated! Thanks.
Dish versus Direct Satellite service
I have had Direct Satellite for approximately 10 years now. Of course, the men have all the ESPN and other sports channels. But, our pictures are great (have on 3 televisions), and the DVR feature the kids love to record events. In the past 10 years now, service has only been out twice, and then that will be from severe storms, but it clears up quickly once the storm passes. I do not know anything about Dish, but heard that is also a good satellite program. It is not cheap with all sports and movie channels in, but they watch them all the time when home.
Any opinions? Spheris versus Transhealth
Any advice you have would be very much appreciated. Thank you to all.
Keyboard Opinions - Avant versus Kinesis
I am faced with a decision between these 2 keyboards, both with pros and cons. I would like to take a survey to see what everyone's opinion would be. I strongly prefer a programmable keyboard, as I would like to change some of the keys around to suit me, but will I regret not having an ergo keyboard in the long run? Will I like the IBM clicky type keys?

It splits and tents. Delete key is on left side (which I love) All other function keys are in the wrong place for me. Quiet low-force tactile membrane switch 10 function keys on left Keypad separate purchase 2 year warranty 60-day money back guarantee Price: $124.15 with the options I chose
AVANT STELLAR KEYBOARD http://www.lonestarkeyboards.com/Avant-Stellar-Programmable-Keyboard/productinfo/KB%2D00%2D1001/ (click on additional images for close up) I actually went to the manufacturer website (http://www.cvtinc.com/products/keyboards/stellar.htm) but they didn’t have any large photos so I went to a reseller for larger images.

Mechanical click/tactile key switches like the old IBM keyboards 12 function keys on left that can be reprogrammed Keypad built in 2 year warranty 30-day money back guarantee Price: $189.00 Macro programming features PS/2 interface but can buy PS to USB cord (I find this a little odd) Programming software not compatible with Vista but can be programmed through the keyboard
This is from the sales rep I spoke to this week: Have you ever heard of Northgate OmniKey keyboards? We purchased the rights to the keyboards when they went out of business. It is like typing on an old IBM keyboard. It is a loud click, you know when you hit a key. A lot of customers say they make fewer errors and I personally agree. I have had my Avant for a little over 10 years and I type all day long. I also have one at home. It might help for you to listen to this review on our website: http://www.cvtinc.com/products/keyboards/menu.htm Click on HEAR OUR INTERVIEW ON Lets talk Computers. Avant is VERY reliable. We sell to a lot of medical transcriptionists, writers, gamers, call center operators, etc. People that type 8 hours a day 5+ days per week. Our keyboards can really take a beating.
What'cha think?
65 character line versus gross lines versus pay by word
I am checking into other options for transcription. Can anyone tell me how to compare all of these types of lines & also payment per word? I know companies use different scales, so I wondered how they compare. I have been paid on a 65 character line with spaces, but I may be making a change in the future - don't want to get burned.
Thank you in advance!
We just got Dish (sm)
We just got Dish about 2-3 weeks ago, switched from cable T.V. They had a terrific special going. With ours, we have 4 TVs hooked up to it, two boxes with one TV going off of it. The one in our LR has the DVR, which allows us to record, I'm not fully sure of how this works yet, it's pretty nice. The bedroom TV runs from the box in the LR. We have another TV in the basement, which the kitchen TV runs off of without a box. E-mail me if you want more information, I have a number you can call and they offered free stuff. From the research I did before ordering this, you get more for your money than DirectTV. The salesperson at Radio Shack also stated he felt Dish was better than Direct. Maybe someone else here can give their opionion since there is one for Dish and one for Direct now. My bill is approx $45 a month for 10 months, then approx $55, we have a special of a movie channel for 3 months free, along with the DVR and 4 TVs. I'm happy!
Side Dish
Any suggestions for a side dish to go with spinach lasagna?
Wow, you have a lot covered in that dish. How about
cottage cheese. Bread of course.
What about DISH network?
We are not worried about the TV aspect as we do not own a TV! This would be strictly for the internet service.
want to try a new dish-chicken marsala-sm
and need to know if heavy cream is the same as heavy whipping cream which I saw at the store and what is dry marsala--a wine? Had this dish at an Italian restaurant recently and it was so good!!
Wonderful low-fat main dish
Here is one that I have used for years and it is wonderful. It does not sound too great, but in the end, it is melt in your mouth good.
2 lb. pork tenderloin roast
1/4 tsp. of each of these spices: marjoram, tyme, garlic salt, onion powder.
1/2 tsp. rubbed sage
1 tbs. worcesteshire sauce
2 tbs. soy sauce.
Mix all spices and sauces together. Pierce roast in several places and put in bowl with marinade. Put in fridge for at least 2 hours, turning roast to keep covered.
Place roast in oven safe dish with marinade and bake at 325 degrees until done. Check with meat thermometer. This is a great low-cal, low-fat dish.
We just switched from Dish to Directv - sm
Dish is slightly cheaper, but we switched for the following reasons; Dish took away our FOX NY channel in November because of some law passed in congress recently (we watch Nascar) which we were paying extra for (we are in VA), we cannot get local channels with Dish unless we upgraded dishs and cut down about 5 trees. I thought it was insane to spend $400+ in order to be able to get local channels. We had them out here a couple years ago to evaluate the tree situation, that was their answer. So we have just been without the locals as they do not come in very well with the antenna. So all our neighbors here have Directv without any problems or cutting down trees, and all with the local channels ($4.99 a month). We have FOX again (local though, DH liked having NY FOX because of the football games). I also did the additional room box, another $4.99 a month which we had not done since living in MD, and it is a nice benefit to have with the kids, DH can watch his football and if a show is on that the kids wanted to watch they can without a bunch of fuss. That doesn't happen too often but it is nice to have that option. I am receiving a $5 rebate for switching right now, plus will be getting an additional $10 off for 10 months once my rebate kicks in, so right now it is $56 a month, but that will jump to $61 when all is said and done. We have the basic pkg and HBO. I liked the guide and ability to scroll the channels better with Dish. But the Directv remote seems much sturdier (plus they replace them free of charge), with Dish we had to pay for any replacements at $70 a pop, we went through a remote every 2 years or so, the last time I said forget this and bought a universal remote for $10, still works great. If trees are not an issue with you then either will work fine, Dish is slighty cheaper but you own the equipment, you buy it. They just lost another channel of mine though that was one of my favories, Court TV, Directv has it though so I am happy. Directv you lease the equipment, hence the free replacements. I think if you only get 1 unit then there is no charge, but with 2 units then it is $5 a month plus the free replacements, etc. We bought our Dish Network dish for $400 with a rebate, so I think we paid $100 for it in the end, have no idea how they do it now though. Happy hunting!
Dawn dish soap for fleas
I had this problem before with some kittens. Soak the pup down and scrub it up with dawn dish soap. Apparently the fleas get caught in the "bubbles" and suffocate. Leave this on the puppy for about a 1/2 hour to an hour then rinse. Keep in mind that this does work BUT dry skin occurs.
Recipe for angel hair dish...
*1 box Angel hair pasta
*2 dozen frozen raw jumbo shrimp thawed and peeled(thaws quickly under running water in collander)
*1-1/2 sticks butter and a 1/4 cup olive oil (prevents butter from hardening when cooled)
*A couple of cups of steamed (firm/not overcooked) and chopped brocolli
*Tablespoon of minced garlic or more or less to taste (I use the one in the jar - and we like garlic!)
*Salt and Pepper to taste - few dashes of each
*Melt butter and add oil, garlic, S&P on medium heat in small pot, mixing often
*Cook shrimp in butter mixture until just done and not overcooked, a handful at a time and removing when cooked and setting aside
*Cook and drain pasta, and transfer back into warm pasta pot
Add broccoli, cooked shrimp and pour butter mixture over all and blend together.
Top with parmesan cheese and a bit of parsley, if desired.
Delicious!!!
Question versus gross lines versus 65-character lines....
I have always charged or been paid by 65 or 60 character lines or per letter or space typed, but have never been paid or charged per gross line.
What is the advantage of this? If I were to charge 11 cents per 65-character line including spaces, what does this figure out to for an average line rate and how do you do this calculation?
I'm wondering if it is financially beneficial for me to bill by gross line or to keep it the way I have it. I do know some accounts will only pay per 65-character line, as this was the deal my first own account I recently acquired. They were adamant on a 65-character line, but didn't specify with or without spaces and I personally would never not charge for spaces.
Thanks for explaining this. I appreciate it and hope everyone has a speedy day.
You can make the whole dish tonight and store in refrigerator!!
I do this all the time for church. Boil them, fill them and wrap good in wrap. Make sure you wrap them really good or your frig will smell like eggs! They will be fine for tomorrow!! In fact, I like them better!! Hope everything works out!
Yeah! The judges RAVED about that pasta dish!
oh my gosh, would you, yourself, bathe in DAWN dish soap - ouch!
no, no, no, no, no, no, no.
Vaseline works too and to rinse out use Dawn dish soap.nm

You could bathe with a gentle shampoo or even dish detergent, rinse well and if you have vinegar do
a vinegar rinse and then do a final rinse. This might drown the fleas or at least stun them. If dog is light colored you might be able to see them and pick them off when dog is wet. If you have a dog brush, brush it outside and you might get some off that way. If you have tea tree oil you can put some around its neck area or on a collar if you have one. This is a fairly strong smell though and we've always had to wash it off the same day, though lots of people swear by this. I can't think of anything else you can do with stuff you already have around the house.
We adopted 3 kittens from the shelter and have never had a flea problem, but now we can't seem to get rid of them and my dog is on 3 different treatments and I still find an occasional flea. She has developed a sensitivity to bites too and scratches all the time and can't take prednisone because she has Cushings.
Growing up we had a tri-colored Pembroke corgi. He was the sweetest thing and I still miss him terribly, 30 years later.
Just slang for girls, from a long time ago. Lots of them.. Dish, Broad, Chick...

Why not provide the meat and have every bring a side dish, appy, or dessert? You're looking at to

Direct TV
We have had Direct TV for approximately 12 years now. The price is reasonable and I just got an upgrade to the DVR for my sons to record shows, sports events and Direct TV took the box on the t.v. in the living room and put it on the t.v. in the kitchen for my husband to watch. Direct TV is great. We only have problems with it during severe lightning storms, but turn it off anyway, (picture freezes when storn is overhead). It costs about 94.00 per month for all the sports channels, movie channels and then 5.99 month extra for the DVR, which works great. But our price is expensive because of all the sports channels. Hope this helps in your decision. I have never had DISH, as we tried Direct first and never stopped or switched to cable or anything, as we found the service is great.
MQ direct deposit
On Friday if payday on Saturday. On Monday if pay day Sunday. .
MQ direct deposit
As a rule, when the pay date is on Sunday I usually have my deposit in the account on Saturday a.m. The last pay date I think fell on a Saturday and that was deposited on Friday a.m.
They don't do direct deposit for IC's.
Nobody at SS answered my e-mails.
Direct hit on cherrypickers
Just wondering - how do you cherrypick on DQS?
Direct hit on cherrypickers!
Here's some good news - my branch just eliminated cherrypicking by disabling the Dictaphone button that sends reports back into the pool, thereby rending cherrypickers impotent! Yea!!!
Now they have to do the same frickin' lousy docs as meeee!
Direct Deposit
Independent contractors cannot receive direct deposit typically as a standard course of events, I am told, because that would be treating them like an employee, and not appropriate for the IRS and accounting purposes.
Direct deposit
I would love direct deposit! I have worked for many services as an IC and most offer it but currently do not have it. I miss it so much!
I think it is in direct proportion to how often
they want to be "bothered" by a lowly MT with questions - lol. I say this because the more exp you have, the less questions you will have. I have seen some with the audacity to put in their ad, "quality-ready work." I doubt they know what it means!LOL!
when privacy direct first came out.....sm
it only cost $2/month extra - today I think it costs $19.95 but to me it's worth it because #1 it cuts all telemarketer calls (and I have been on the Do Not Call list since that began) and I can also take my phone charges off my MTSO business at tax time......
call your phone company and ask them if they offer anything like Privacy Director. *S*
Can some tell me, or direct me to, about editing. Sm
I need to expand my horizons I guess. I've been out of MT work for 6 weeks with no signs of hire in the future. I've seen editing jobs..editing and editing VR..I don't even know what that involves. Any helpers out there? Thanks!
please email me direct--sm
I tried your email link through this message, but it did not work. would love to hear from you on a personal level. thx.
no direct deposit either...this is what I do...
I'm an IC for 2 companies that don't provide direct deposit and I just found that waiting on snail mail to bring my check was too undependable. I now have my checks sent overnight. Sure I have to pay for the charge of it but it is worth knowing when my money will be here. Most companies will do this if you ask them to and they just deduct it from your pay. I don't know your situation but I am able to use this expense on my taxes each year, so I definite feel that it is worth it.
Direct deposit - do you have it?
At my present job, I do not have direct deposit. I really miss it. It's frustrating me. A small thing, yet irritating!
Do you have DD?
DIRECT TYPE
I have also typed directly into Meditech through VPN. I have never heard this called "direct type" - my 'guess' would be yes!
Direct Deposit
I also have direct deposit. I get paid every other Thursday, and by Thursday morning my check is in my account. That's just my experience. Maybe you should call the company and see if there's a problem. Has it ever been late before?
I would call HIM direct...
(Health Information Management) which is Med. Rec. Normally when you call the director will never answer. Either ask directly "Can you tell me if you have a transcription department or if you outsource your work?" Or ask if they have any openings for transcription. They can only say no we don't or we don't do that here. You could probably even ask who they outsource it to.
Unless you get the idiots that I called the other day. Our coverstatino... Like above post...Called hosp. I used to work at because rumor was they had an opening. Called HIM..Do you have an opening for MT? Umm I don't know I'll have to transfer you to HR. (HR) Do you have an opening for MT? Um no we don't. Do you have opening for an at home MT as described. Umm I don't know we would not know that, let me check with HIM....No they do not. Can you tell me who is the director of HIM now? Umm I'm sorry but we are not allowed to give out that information. I had to call back and ask the clerk in HIM who the darn HIM director was.
Who in the world cannot tell you who the dept. managers are. That was so brainless. Explained that I had worked there previously and wondered if it had changed. Wonder what would have happend if I asked to speak to HIM director. Um I'm sorry she's not allowed to talk to anyone!
If you get direct deposit set up
(if your company offers it), then you won't have to wait for snail mail. But no company is going to predict what day your check is going to hit your mailbox. Pay day is the day checks are cut and sent out.
No direct deposit, huh?
x
See if you have a Tiger Direct near you
and tell them what you need. DH says mine was only $299, and he picked it up the same day, so I guess it was in stock and everything.
That's way too low for IC with direct clients. sm
I live in a small midwestern town, so believe me, line rates aren't splendid here but as an IC, you should charge at least 10 cents per line. However, you should add up your expenses, i.e., supplies you'll need, gas if deliveries, etc., and figure out what you need in order to turn a profit on top of that. If a practice won't pay 10 cents per line, you don't want it because they're just looking for a bargain and the first person that walks in quoting a cheaper rate will have your job. JMHO as someone who has dealt with direct clients for almost 10 years now.
direct deposit??
I have never done this kind of work before and signed up to work with a lady from qmedet solutions. She wants my bank account number to direct deposit my check. I am leary of doing this because she didn't check references or want to see a resume. We emailed back and forth, she called me to explain the job and then requested my personal information. Is this the way everyone works?
direct deposit??
I have never done this before and wanted to know if this sounds legit. I placed my job information on a site for MTs. I received an email from a lady who works for qmedet solutions saying that she wanted to hire me. We emailed back and forth about whether I was interested and then she called me to discuss the job. She then emailed me forms to fill out my personal information including my bank account number for direct deposit. I just want to make sure that this is normal because she didn't get any personal references from me nor did she request any kind of resume.
Also at Tiger Direct
If you don't see one you like with pre-installed XP, you can place your order by phone and ask for it instead of Vista. You don't have that option on most of the ones with a web order. Though they do have XP PRO OEM for $139 if you want to just install it yourself.
Tiger Direct sm
Which computer did you buy from them? It's been a long time since I bought a computer, and I don't really know what I need.
Do their computers just come with the keyboard and mouse? Does it have any software on it? I have Word that I can install, so that's not a problem.
I was so worried I wouldn't be able to find a computer with XP on it. I appreciate the info!
Are you doing this direct or through an MTSO
Is this your own account or are you working for a company who is paying you this line rate?
If you're working for an MTSO, then 13 cents is outstanding. If you're doing it directly and all of your expenses and taxes need to come out of that 13 cents, then it might be a hair on the low side, imo.
LOL! May be direct but still HAPPY sm
being an MT!
MQ direct deposit on Friday, is NOT
correct! Is paid on the 10th and 25th, if those dys fall on a Sat/Sun, then your check does not go in until the following Monday...how it is & how it's always been.
As other's advised, check the 2005 payroll schedule, maybe print it out for your referrences?
