not paid attention to past posts because I never thought I'd need it.  Have chance for a position, but need ULD  - like now.   I'm on the east coast.  I have DSL and my ISP is Earthlink.  They have something called truvoice where it looks like I can get true ULD, but because I have DSL I still have to maintain my land line.   Not sure if I could use DSL, phone, and tru voice all at the same time.

It is true. A lot of companies
are not yet compatible. With the company I work for, we were able to do a workaround so I could get my account to work. IF you already work for someone, ask them first. At Best Buy (and I'm sure others) you can request that they load XP instead of Vista. Found that out after I purchased! I ended up just getting a laptop with XP, so when I have an account that is not compatible, I just do them on my laptop!
Companies in general, true. ICs could be
added in, but obviously there are laws from the labor board regarding employees, versus IC where it would be a contract.
However, I just was wondering how far a supervisor can go as long as people work their hours (allowable by law 8 scheduled) and as long as people get their agreed on minimum line count. Wondering about no breaks between reports, and working every minute being monitored and that would be with a company or any employer paying your benefits. Also, wondering if this were mentioned at the interview, would a person take the job. Guess that is a more rhetorical wondering. But it is true, up to the employee to do something about it. I agree. If the employee does not want to stand for it, could either leave, or make an issue out of it, which brings us to another conversation then.
wow!! not true - they just changed insurance companies (sm)
at the end of the year.  I don't know about the family coverage, I get the single, but it is about 1/3 of what you said.  Maybe you should give them another look.
Yes, companies do read here. It's a wealth of info
Especially when some use the same name at all message boards or even in their email address. Certainly helps to weed out the resumes.
True, but that doesn't mean we have to embrace it by working for these companies!
have a spine and absolutely refuse to work for any company that outsources offshore.
there's more info on how MTs feel about their companies than recipes/fav songs.
Besides I wouldn't come to this board to learn what some cranky MTs favorite song is. I'm here to dish the dirt about the companies who control the MTs.
Search on the Companies or New Student board for course info. Jobs are available all over the US and
.
I don't think that's true, as I've
the CMTs are just as bad if not worse than an MT that has not a care for accuracy.  So, I would have to disagree.  I used to ask around the hospital where I worked once I heard about becoming a CMT and not one of the physicians knew what I was talking about.  One did say, I guess everyone can be certified at something, but that doesn't make them any better than someone who has experience.  I think you're generalizing big time.  I think it depends on one's own preference and how they like to perceive those initials.  Thanks so much for reading!  I am a very caring MT and take pride in my work after all of these years and still learn each and every day and I am not a CMT.
That's not true. I've been an MT for 25 years and
seasons.  It's absolutely NOT true that it is slow this time of year.  I also have had my own hospital accounts/surgery center accounts.  A lot of times it is BUSIER at the end of the year.  The reason there is no work is that MDI overhired.
I've done both, but for different companies

I would say QA is faster, so if they pay the same, the potential to make more money is with QA.  Again, that is depending on the rules of the company, but with VR you end up having to change a lot more text than you do with QA.

True, but I've checked out the one I need and it's compatible
Start-Stop is on the list of compatible programs for the particular model I need. Thanks for the input though!
Tried that, which is why I said I've been searching for info

I've done mttest for quite a few companies,
but none have ever asked for SSN at the end. I would either leave it blank, or send a message to tech support listed at the bottom, asking what you could put in there to make it go through, but that is too private to put over the net, when you don't know what they're doing with that after a test. It's not an offer, it's a test. They don't need your SSN.
I've worked for several companies using this VR
I make on average $20-$26 an hour with the editing at 4cpl/straight typing 9-10 cpl 65 char with headers and footers and templates. I've been using it for several years though. There are several job ads for this software.
I've never had anyone want more info when saying I wanted or needed to leave. Just

I've worked for companies that needed people
specifically to do certain reports.  I have been hired to exclusively do ERs and discharge summaries before.  It wasn't cherry picking either.  They needed someone to catch up their backlog and keep the reports within TAT permanently.  Evidently, other people were cherry picking and bypassing these report types because they're not as good of money makers as Ops or H&Ps.
What's overly noticeable? I've heard there are companies that
do this. Their point is that our job requires perfection or as close to it as possible. Sometimes I think we try so hard to crunch out the lines that we lose track of the prefection that our job requires, hence they start making us pay for our mistakes. Hit us in our money, that will make us be more careful and not make mistakes? I wonder.

Anyway, I'd like to know what kinds of errors are being made and what it's costing you.
I've been with so many companies, large and small, I can't count anymore. nm

I've been on Celebrity and Princess. Loved them both. Lots of info at cruisecritic.com. nm

I've been screwed over by the big phone companies too, but once you switch to a business line,
a lot more options are opened up to you. Talk America has an unlimited long distance business line for $49.95. I've been with them for over a year now. I also tried calling cards, which are an even bigger rip off.
Two of the best companies I've worked for didn't make me test. Makes you wonder if...sm
these MTSOs that mandate so many "tests" aren't just trying to see how many actual reports they can get transcribed for free. I could understand maybe a written test and one very in-depth transcription test, but 6 is utterly ridiculous. I would have definitely passed on that too and then told the MTSO exactly why.
I use EXText with my current job and I've used at a couple of other jobs I've had. I've ne

used DocQscribe, but I have used Meditech, Cerner, Vianeta, the Precyse platform (I can't remember the name), Dolbey, and  Lanier platform I think was called Cequence (?).

Out of all the different platforms I have typed on, I have liked EXText the best.  In my opinion, it's very user friendly, easy to learn, and I really like ESP which is the built in abbreviation expander.  Plus it is very easy to create your own normals which I love.  My fingers literally never leave the keyboard because there are macro keys for everything.  You can use your mouse if you prefer or learn the function macros.  I love it.  I think I'm more productive on EXText than with any other platform.

Thank you ghost! So true! So true! More than one person!

Yer crackin' me up! True, true, true! nm

MT companies negotiate with the insurance companies until they get what they want

It is strictly up to the agreement between the employer and the insurance company.  Your new employer can tell you what the pre-existing clause is in your new policy.  Some require proof of insurance for the past 12 months.  It may say something like if a diagnosis has not been made NOR treatment received within the last __ months.  Not good when companies negotiate with a pre-existing clause in order to get a lower rate.  Better check with your HR with your new company before doing anything.  It really gets hairy !

ROFL!! true, so true! nm

true, true but out of about 90 flicks....1 or 2...nm

true, true - but what you see as arrogance...sm

I think a lot of people go the extreme -

so, if I had to be one way or the other (being a humble extremist myself...*LOL*), I'd rather have too much self-esteem than not enough (been there, done that the first 30 years!!! *L*).  And I am a truly humble person, been recognized for just that.....but because of *been there, done that* - and all sorts of therapies (not drug therapies), some end up the other way.  Oh well, this was a fun couple of posts - so I thought.

Gave me much to chew on :)  Have fun!

True but to say there are no good MTs not true.

ROFLMAO!!!! so true! so true!
Everybody sees it but her, though! I love it! Thanks for the giggle! ":^)

If you can get through the test files, then the sound quality on the actual company files is better. And, the dictation is never as bad as the test files, plus you have QA to help with hard blanks.

protected by HIPAA, as we all know. I saw that ad too and was surprised to see it. Any identifying info is considered Protected Health Information, including diagnoses, tests, etc. This MTSO should have known better than to ask for that.

As you can already see, you've come to the wrong board! By using the word professional, you've
excluded about 99% of the population of "whatever" it is that hangs on these boards. Certainly not professional for sure! But you sure are doing a good thing for someone! Its the thought that counts. Sorry you met the dregs right at the start.
HELP! I've turned my screen sideways, I can't straighten it up. I know I've seen sm

I've always verified every line I've typed (I have my ways) -sm
If you're supposed to be paid a certain $/line, that's what you should be getting no matter how they do billing unless of course it's specified in YOUR contract with THEM.

BTW, I've never caught a company cheating me ever.
I've used it. It's the worst piece of crap I've ever seen.
seriously. I wouldn't wish them on my worst enemy, or their Vianeta program. Awful, just awful.
Wait until you've been there six months and if you've improved
quality and quantity, I'd say go ahead and ask.  Otherwise I'd say annually...  good luck
I've seen the same every place I've done acute care, and
pointing out dangerous or repeated errors (often in normals for goodness sakes!) never got the result I expected. When I would press the issue, supervisors said if the dictators didn't complain, then the mistakes must not matter!

It didn't matter if the MT changed what had been a cardiac med in the beginning of the report to an antifungal by the end - I kid you NOT! One poor girl used facial for fascial and fascial for facial!

I've used a few expanders, and of those I've used, all must be "coded" to get things lik
One thing I do to get around this, is to create a macro and then link the ShortHand command to the macro. It works for me, but I do the same five clients every day and only have about 20 or 30 macros/Shorthand commands that work like this. This may not work well for you if you have lots of formats and hundreds of docs.
I've been doing this doc for many years, so I've learned how to function with him. sm
I can tell what's a stutter, what's another word, what's just an "uh." Years of experience will get you through a lot.
Wouldn't want to do his charts all day, of course, but a few per day aren't bad. I haven't had to send his to review in a long time, but they do take a little longer to shuffle through.
I've worn contacts for 30 years. I've had both
hard and soft.  My vision is much better with the soft ones than they were with the hard ones.   When I first started trying contacts soft ones were still new and they couldn't get me to 20/20, so I went to hard.  Hard were okay until my eyes started changing shape and then I could no longer wear hard ones.  The soft should give you better vision as they conform more to the shape of your eye.
I've been a bully; I've been bullied.
I used to sell a lot on eBay. There are some people who buy high-priced items and play games with you. I've had to call them repeatedly, report them to different agencies. It's not fun. You put time and money into the business of selling, and there are people out there who live to manipulate the system and cause trouble.

And, I've been bullied by buyers who made unreasonable demands, insist that they pay by check when you clearly state you don't accept them. It's not fun, and is one of the reasons I don't sell anymore. People!

I've also bought from some sellers who I would not deal with again because of their unprofessional attitude.

But, overall, ebay can be a great place to be.
I've become the man I've always wanted to marry.
I live alone, am 46, never married, no kids, just dogs horses and chickens and just got done building a new house out in the boonies away from the rat race. (Used to live in Manhattan) Couldn't be happier. Selfish maybe, but never out of time, never stressed, and I don't take anything out on others. There's something to be said for being alone but not lonely. I'm not looking for a man to "make me complete." They only sap me of my time, energy and money (how little of it there is with MQ). I consider myself lucky getting to choose my time with friends, and not just stuck with a deadbeat partner. Ladies especially: Be strong and allow yourself to be independent. Any old man will not make you stronger!
You know I've done the grilling...I've tried it all...
And I find the best way to cook steak is in a good quality thick-bottom nonstick pan on top of the stove. I found this trick on the internet. I heat the pan on high and when nice and hot, throw on the steak, no butter and no oil. It browns almost immediately, cooks fairly quickly, and seals in the juices - tender, moist and delicious!!!! It doesn't even need seasoning but salt and pepper before cooking. ;)
I've not only typed, them, I've had a few, myself! LOL

that's so true nm

this is sad, but true
search engines are great, but they pick up all the WRONG information also...so be careful
That may be true for No. Cal. (sm)

in Southern Cal (Orange County), the accounts have become quite scarce and most doctors will not pay over 11 cents per line, that is, if you can find your own accounts at all anymore.  They get a lot of solicitations and do not have to pay over 11 cents.  There is a lot of EMR taking over out here or all the accounts have been taken by large services.
